Though I'll never be able to afford to live in Hollywood, but I'm sitting here drinking coffee, having breakfast, and getting a bike tour of LA by a former WT pro with classical music. It's not bad
@Andrew Rivera yet here you are watching 😉
I’ve been playing Grand Theft Auto V for years and it always amazes me when I see clips of LA, dejavous all day long!
its very weird living in LA and not playing GTA V cuz all the comments on everything LA is just "Oh this is GTA V"
Driving around LA for the first time is so strange, you feel like you’ve been everywhere before
MS Flight Simulator made me realize that LA is like 400x the size of Los Santos
You need to make sure all these climb videos feature a "great spot to pee"
This is an AWESOME series idea. Please keep the climbs/vids coming!!
“Holy shit! Okay, stop. I feel bad!” 😂🤣
Yeah, do more of those. Like getting a better feel for the place.
Thanks Phil for being my tour guide on this climb we do every Sunday. Never
thought about all these historical facts about it.
I need to see 30,987 more of these videos to determine if I like them or not.
Man I miss LA. I ran into you and rode with you up Mt Hollywood to the Observatory late last year, just before moving away. Would love to see Griffith Park featured!
This was a great idea, Phil. Thank you for going out and riding and filming. The music was perfect. This video made my day better.
A professor once told me that I have a black belt in sarcasm. If that's true then Phil is Mr. Miyagi. Love it!
Chamois on, chamois off 😉
Ah Danialsan, these rules for cycling. Rule ah-number 1: Don't dope. Rule ah-number 2: First ah learn rule ah-number 1
You got that right! Lol
Yes I have been entertained, please continue.
Hi Phil. That for sharing this. Enjoyed the tour.
Love it man, I hope you make more of these!
As I watch you film this I can hear the crunching of hyperdermic needles under peoples feet as they pass by as well as the stench of urine from the nearby overpass
Living in SoCal, I always appreciate when you do videos like this. Keep them coming!
The actor's in my yard at the moment, so I made my mom watch this to show her Muhney. She's like, "you ride there!" And she was entertained, so thank you!!
I like seeing these neighborhoods. Keep 'em coming!
A backdrop of phenomenal architecture (I love modernism) and grade A snark.
This was a fantastic video. Please do more of these.
I really enjoy your city tours as I’ve never visited the States from down here near the bottom of the South Pacific.
Excellent! Cool climb and stories on the climb. Music fits too. Best 16:37 of the day.
Definitely more of this please
That brings back great memories! Spent 3 summers there from 2000-2003 back when Runyan Canyon allowed bikes I went with friends up and down those trails every day
i think that the music is by far the best thing about this video
Great soundtrack to this video!
more of these! thanks Phil
Your buddy is what I would call a "good sport" :-)
He’s the best
This was cool, keep em coming
A little Mozart to start your day. Nice touch.
Simply - fantastic video.
Great episode and great series idea!!
Love the tours of LA. Very cool
Love the exploring!
It's strangely entertaining to sit back and chill for 15 minutes of Phil waxing cookie. Thanks Phil! (And Muhney)
Love these types of videos from you.
Yes -- want to see you do all your favorite climbs! But especially Deer Creek. You have the KOM -- how have we never seen you riding and discussing that brutal climb?
Great Phil please do more of these types of films - nice classical music too ..
This was great. 👌
I like this series a lot. Useful if I make it to LA with time to ride.
More anecdotes please Phil!
Loved it. Please make more. I'm expecting a Tom Hanks in Lycra by Part 312 of this series.
More like this please. I’ve been to LA for work and never see anything that made me think “I really want to ride in LA”. Thank you for showing us that it’s possible and it looks amazing.
Really enjoyed this episode. Used Google maps to see the area and roads. Used Zillow to see the houses. Even a person of simple means can enjoy the roads, the area, the views.
I can enjoy it and don’t even live in California, however, it would be nice to have a post ride taco, cerveza and cookie.
Can't wait for part 2 thru 30988.
Phil, you inspired me to get out and do some climbing repeats this morning on my local mountain (Massanutten MT in VA). Thanks for keeping me motivated!
Love that area!
Yo, I've been doing LaGrange Nichols for over 15 years and your video introduced me to a whole new view. Actually, I usually don't get to see much of a view on the Sunday ride as all I'm doing is trying to hold a wheel and breath for dear life! Oh, if you're not Phil or his buddy Michael here in the video, then yes, those are very much walls up to Mulholland for the rest of us!!! Bring more of these videos, please.
Haha good tour. I enjoyed it...
We have a few deer signs here too...there they stick something else on, it too has a big red tip.
I have crashed both directions in 'crash corner'. I blame wet roads from sprinkler run-off.
Also, that hiking trails is also the start of 'Dirt Nichols!'
Damn, I miss LA. I rode Nichols so many times when I was living in Los Feliz.
More hills please Phil. Really enjoyed this one.
Enjoyed the video and the Hollywood tour. I look forward to the next video maybe "Mulholland" climb version and please include in the video commentary about David Lynch's movie by same name cause I didn't get it :)
If you ever get back there, you should do one about the North Georgia gaps or brasstown bald. I'd watch that several times over.
This video had me laughing harder than I should’ve. Muhney deserves an Oscar for that crying scene 😂
That bit about the German Shepard was awesome. Loving these tour videos!
Loving the Mozart
Good stuff Phil rather interesting.
Interestingly, or perhaps not, any time you look directly at the camera with those mirrored lenses, you capture a near-field 3D image of what's in front of you, mostly a stalk-like forearm with bulgy-lensed camera at the end, and your riding partner etc beyond. As to technique to view said 3D images, there's crosseyed, which fails with this type of capture, or walleyed, which works in this instance. And yes, enjoyed this video and would be happy to watch more of them. Thanks, Phil!
The Freshly Baked Man Buns are BACK, baby. I ordered a pair after your Everesting video, along with two other pairs. Goodr, take note: Phil's a billboard on two wheels! 😉
Looked like a fun ride. If I weren't an old guy on a SWB recumbent, I'd ask to come with you.
Entertained
Thanks
You should give star tours all the time. You can be like "that's so and so house" , and "he live here". It'd be huge!!!
I did that video!
That entertained me.
Phil love your sunglasses!
Me too. I’m scrolling through the comments hoping to find out if anyone knows what they are. Nothing :( ...edit: actually he has a link to the brand in the description.: “Goodr” they are surprisingly cheap too.
Pretty sure I passed Gaimon on a climb today in Los Angeles. Let me clarify. I passed him as he was on his way DOWN a climb on the opposite side of the street! Because of their descending rate of speed, I can't say for certain it was Phil, but what I can say is that one of them was loud, he was tall and skinny, and I heard him say something I've only heard Phil say: "...on your social..." Social, of course, being the shortened way of saying social media. The talking rider was looking over at his riding companion, who did acknowledge me climbing with a wave. This was on Coldwater Canyon on the Beverly Hills side, btw. The time was around 1:30, and maybe halfway up (or down) that length of road from Mulholland to the Fire Station at the bottom.
For what it's worth, for me, climbing up Coldwater to Mulholland from BH proper is one of the Santa Monica Mountains/Hollywood Hills gems. It is wide, not very technical, and averages between 4 to 8% for it's length, and the different gradient segments are steady, so you can change into a gear and stay there for a good while before needing to change. My best climbing workouts have been along that route. For me it takes me near 30 minutes, which is a solid as F climbing workout. I'm sure Gaimon types can do it in 15 or less with moderate effort. I could probably do it in 20 with an all out effort.
I spent a year in LA as a Fulbright scholar, I commuted to CHLA on bike from Eagle Rock and found it a surprisingly pleasant experience. Except for those 4-way stops. Please please, do something about those. Idaho rolling stop?
Thank you for the tour! That was fun!! I love your sunglasses
Loved this Phil, more please! you're my cycling hero!
Yeah dude, more of these. And....big ringing it up The Wall...impressive, Muhney (well unless you were just cross-chained). Now I'm gonna have to try the big ring next time I go up.
Just got my ultimate black bibs in the mail thanks to your recommendation, loving them so far!
The Black Bibs are amazing, I just started wearing them and can't be comfortable in my Specialized anymore.
@@DougTheSnowMan My set of bibs were coming on 5 years of age, and ive been testing replacements, just got the ultimate short inseams and im ordering 6 more for the week!
@@Mrich775 My first pair of ultimate's are coming tomorrow, I'm excited, I only have the plus right now so I'm also trying the basics, I don't think I need the extra band, I have skinny legs, haha.
There 40 dollar race jerseys are way better then my 120 dollar jersey too. Little big in the sleeves, but other then that perfect.
Most of my rides are 2-3 hours so if the basic bibs don't ride up I'm ordering at least 2 more. You can get 3 pairs for the price of one basic LBS bibs, amazing deal.
@@DougTheSnowMan I need bibs - what's the link to order them? I'm going to go check the description...
Inviting you over to my house in the Detroit 'burbs. No pool on the roof, but I have a pond out back. Max elevation on the Strava KOMs is around 95ft.
what type of bike would you recommend for michigan roads? looking into purchasing a road bike but not sure if gravel would be better. 810
You made a man cry then crash on demand... of course I want to see more videos like this!!
Please show us more of your favorite climbs!
There’s nothing like infotainment!!
Phil that's so terrible making him cry on demand! Wow what a friend. 🤣
Yes...and made him crash on demand too! Give that guy a gig!
Michael Muhney commits, especially to the crash -- PRO. Cannondale? Waiting for the Michael Muhney Factor review
Got anything in Topanga/Malibu or the West Side for those of us who never travel east of the 405?
I am entertained
Feels like it would be more appropriate for you two to go for a ride in Neptune or Balboa county in general 😂
Phil keeps calling it "nature", yet too me it looks like he is still in the city with all the houses and cars parked on the side :D
I popped a saddle sore while watching this, I don’t know which was more painful.
Phil can you come on down to Indonesia and do the Bromo KOM? You'd most definitely be the star during the event.
Million $$$$ idea - someone make a handlebar mount for camera that can look back at cyclist while making RUclips videos so rider can keep both hands on handlebar while riding! See a ton of videos of people holding phone pointing backwards while riding one-handed. Also make a swivel for the mount so camera can be pointed forward if needed :)
I remember Michael from Veronica Mars!
So good. Nathan Haas stopped in the feed zone at Tour of Cali for Sheriff Don Lamb to arrest him last year
15:39 Cycling is not allowed, but hiking and cars, that's pretty weird 🙄 Until I saw your video, I did not expect those nice calm roads around L.A., it seems that you can discover a nice new route every day.
You are too funny! I can’t believe how you tortured yur friend in the beginning- 😀
Do it again!
That actor guy seems cool
More hill videos! 👍🏻
Can you show the Strava profiles of the climbs?
goofy vlog good fun more please!
No dragons pls & he just fired his agent 😂
You should try cheddar gorge mate
I forgot to add that Nichols is fun. I like the remoteness compared with the shit roads you must take to get to the start. Same with Mandeville.
Totally thought it was David Spade at first.
This is good/helpful content.
Am I the only one who recognized a classic piece of music used in Breaking Away??
❤LA
How did you find an actor in LA? What are the chances?
Did DR get his lunch eaten on that hill as well?????
Is that David Spade?
Do Látigo or Baldy next
