Hey Phil, that's my first youtube comment ever. Just what to thank you for the best bike channel ever. I always waned to have a road bike, but they are crazy expensive in Brazil. My primary sport is rock climbing, but after I started watching your videos last year I got so motivated training in my old mountain bike that I decided to by a road bike. After months of hard freelancing I have my bike. I'm training like crazy and chasing KOMs all around. So thanks man, you gave me the final push in achieving my childhood dream of being a road biker. Hope I can attend to a cookie fondo one. I've you ever come to Brazil and want a bike tour around São Paulo, count on me. Cheers!
Muhney’s candid look at riding with Phil was perfect lol. Also kudos to him for putting that sticker on his bike 😂 Love these your videos! Makes me actually want to visit LA! Lol
Go in the observatory. It’s a great date. It’s like 10 bucks and you just watch a video about how small we are in this ever expanding universe. Talk about a subject that the sparks fly.
Love these tours of socal climbs. One of my favorites is PV hills (which Phil has the kom for the switchbacks). The roads along the ocean are nice but the view from the friendship bell in San pedro before the people arrive is great. It also has the most picturesque basketball court in the same park as I've ever seen.
6,728 people have ridden up that hill nearly 50k times, on Strava alone, and Phil can just go out and smash the KOM like that. Absolutely spectacular, and I loved seeing the drive-by destruction as Michael Muhney films Phil shredding past. Brilliant!
Love that climb to the observatory. Crossing coyotes with dead rabbits hanging from their mouths is not unusual. The road is in horrible shape in parts and the crowd at the top is normally heavy. Some great views. I miss driving old bread trucks full of camera equipment to shoots up there.
Thank you for the nice tour of Griffith.I started riding around there 20 years ago. I hadn't ridden for 8 years and due to the pandemic started riding again. Even signed up on Strava where I found out you're more than twice as fast then me. You must have a really good bike, wink wink.
Michael said we'd get back to the big dog and a game ad came on my screen with crazy action, a raging river, etc. I thought it was a joke for a moment.
Joking aside, Phil's KOM is remarkable if you consider the road conditions on Mt. Hollywood. It begs for a gravel bike. Sand patches, potholes, you name it. But that applies only for the "no cars" roads. The regular streets are really good. For LA.
@@DerFilmgucker north side of Mt Hollywood is pretty clean, especially if you know the lines. To me the hardest KOM to take up there would be Vista del Valle (from Commonwealth to top). That one has all kinds of obstacles, including several deep sand patches, sharp rocks, potholes, and also people (near the helipad). So easy to have a full-gas effort interrupted on that climb!
Great video guys, it's especially amusing to be called an arsehole by a cop sitting on his ass doing jack shit. Thanks for the insight on Phil's KOMs Mr Muhney. I look forward to these videos where you guys cruise LA on your rides.
You were so close to the Los Angeles River (@ the Zoo or @ Victory Blvd.) it's a too bad you didn't mention the connection. It's such a great tie in to the park and can be a nice addition to the GP ride
Damn dude, seeing your video of Griffith is making it pretty tough for me to stick with my decision of moving to ATL. I've lived right beside Griffith for several years now and it's like my backyard playground. It's just such a special place. I'm honestly not sure I can go through with the move now. Damn you Phil!
Hey Phill! Great content with a huge pinch of comedy, loved it! It would be nice if you could do a video about breathing technique, your's seems rapid and strong but not desperated (the opposite of mine). TIA!
great video! I saved these places on my google maps "want to go" favs. Btw Phill I'm heading over to Brasstown Bald, highest point in Georgia next week, I see you have KOM up there, we'll see if it stands in a week or so. jk about that last part of course.
Was just there this morning! Its to bad the horse people are the best complainers. The dirt road to the hollywood sign is the best way to get there and totally do able on a road bike. Getting there from there very bottom always makes me nervous since its so steep and so much lost tourist traffic. Plus the mountains of horse poop everywhere make the area not smell the best.
So, long time fan but have yet to hear an opinion: when it comes to cookie time, if you would be so kind, describe what you look for in the perfect cookie? Soft, hard, gooey, half-baked, crispy? Always curious. Keep up the healthy retirement!
"Trash Truck Hill" is actually the counterclockwise segment of Griffith Park Dr from Travel Town to the north side base of Mt Hollywood. "Reverse Trash Truck" is the clockwise segment of Griffith Park Dr from Crystal Springs to the same point. The latter has a few bumps but mostly pretty smooth.
I did a Budlight commercial there once in my youth, 30 years ago. They scouted cyclists out of the once famous Griffith park training ride. The park rangers hate cyclists, so they killed that ride decades ago. Was one of the best training rides in L.A. at the time
I guess Phil got rid of his other chinese bike real fast. I already forgot the name. The Factor sounds like it's on rim brakes as well based on the footage. Haven't been on this channel for a while.
Way back in the 80’s you didn’t ride some of those closed off roads to the observatory alone. Good chance you run into some shady people that wanted to steal your bike.
La zoo is awesome btw,,, for a place jailing a animals… but they’re mostly animals that would be dead in the wild anyway… so theres that. 620 watts at observations climb… yeah.. im usually barely pedaling by then .
Phil, I'm obviously not qualified to give you any advice on cycling but it sounds like most of your breathing is through your mouth? Nasal breathing provides up to 20% more oxygen absorption. Obviously takes some training since it's restrictive but maybe worth it?
Hi Phil, Absolutely no disrespect to u or anything but if you claim to be clean, and I’m not making any unjustified claims that you’re on enhanced cookies or whatever, then why don’t you just get tested properly and eliminate all doubts about your power numbers? Just wondering

Love the “behind the scenes” of the KOM Muhney provided. Was always curious how the experience was for us mere mortals that might be riding with you.
"With" being a relative term.
Muhney’s candid look at riding with Phil was perfect lol. Also kudos to him for putting that sticker on his bike 😂 Love these your videos! Makes me actually want to visit LA! Lol
Thanks for giving Griffith a shout out, Phil. It doesn’t get the respect the Santa Monica mountain courses do, but it’s a great place to ride.
There is also a local mountain lion in Griffith Park.
Go in the observatory. It’s a great date. It’s like 10 bucks and you just watch a video about how small we are in this ever expanding universe. Talk about a subject that the sparks fly.

LA is such a cool place to ride. I am in central Ohio where my views are cornfields, barns, tractors and more cornfields
I run and ride there all the time. One of my favorite spots.
Same. Right in my backyard basically. Special place.
I really enjoyed this video. Lovely mix of fast bike riding, Best Retirement Ever and humour. Thanks Phil (& MIchael)!
Great video, Phil! You hit all the Griffith Park hotspots. I'm sharing this with my non California, non USA family so they can see where we ride :-)
Learning a lot about Los Angeles, interesting variety of riding options.
45 seconds at 624 watts. Hilariously strong final kick! Just incredible.
Yeah after averaging 380-something for 15 minutes that's pretty ridiculous!
Great video, accessible to many riders of all skill levels....the shot of “this is how a KOM Phil feels like” was a great idea!
Thank you for getting us to all these iconic places! (even only virtually)
Great video. Love the insight into how the rides are filmed.
6,728 people have ridden up that hill nearly 50k times, on Strava alone, and Phil can just go out and smash the KOM like that.

your quarantine buddies have epic mullets, awesome
You were Speed Racer up that climb, Phil, really impressive. And thanks for showing us these climbs, all of 'em in the Land of La.
That was a beautiful rendition of Bob Dylan
Thank you for the nice tour of Griffith.I started riding around there 20 years ago. I hadn't ridden for 8 years and due to the pandemic started riding again. Even signed up on Strava where I found out you're more than twice as fast then me. You must have a really good bike, wink wink.
I can't believe it took you so long to do Griffith Park!
Took a pandemic to make me stay home. So much great LA content coming up
Michael said we'd get back to the big dog and a game ad came on my screen with crazy action, a raging river, etc. I thought it was a joke for a moment.
Great inspiration. I went there this AM, shouted: "Phil made it" to the film security guards. They immediately danced in excitement!!
Joking aside, Phil's KOM is remarkable if you consider the road conditions on Mt. Hollywood. It begs for a gravel bike. Sand patches, potholes, you name it. But that applies only for the "no cars" roads. The regular streets are really good. For LA.

The vlog is so inspiring Phil. When are you covering Beachwood, Mt. Lee Drive to the "Hollywierd" sign, and Lake Hollywood?
Never been inside? What? Phil it's cool too see, you gotta do it man.
I LOVE GRIFFITH PARK!
Great video guys, it's especially amusing to be called an arsehole by a cop sitting on his ass doing jack shit.
Thanks for the insight on Phil's KOMs Mr Muhney. I look forward to these videos where you guys cruise LA on your rides.
Cookie time is the most important meal of the day. Especially an earned one.
Indeed...me like cookies!
Awesome video good job keep em coming !
Hey Phil! Heads up - the Hollywood sign and it's likeness is trademarked, which is ironic given your fear of Bob Dylan.
looks amazing! I would love to go later in the day when the sun is down. Btw Phil you already are famous!
Kudos to Michael!
Dude! you gotta get inside the observatory. Just pop in the first room, almost as good as the outside and you don't have to lose sight of your bike..
right now its closed. I rode out there last week actually out of a whim, not expecting it to be open, it still it was a nice ride.
Phil, do yourself a favor and go inside the observatory. It was quite fun, not to mention the vintage vibe.
Such a great video!
You were so close to the Los Angeles River (@ the Zoo or @ Victory Blvd.) it's a too bad you didn't mention the connection. It's such a great tie in to the park and can be a nice addition to the GP ride

"Your tearing me apart". RIP James Dean
Beautiful LA merci
Love that sticker😬😬
That 'howdy'hit different. In a good way of course 😌
Sticker Phever! Phil probably has talked dozens of people into regrettable tattoos too!
After riding the park so much feels funny watching an intro video on it hah
You should look at getting an insta360 one r camera. Compact and just film with the camera pointing wherever then can reframe the shots in post 👍🏼
Don’t worry Michael, I too try to make sure everything is tucked and going well under there
Love your video🤙🏾
When I lived in Atwater & wanted to get away from the roommates this was my spot.
Do Elysian Park next and L.A river =) It takes me 14 minutes from gate to gate up mt hollywood ;P
btw f**k the previous kom holder. Saludos Phil!
Hey Phill! Great content with a huge pinch of comedy, loved it!
It would be nice if you could do a video about breathing technique, your's seems rapid and strong but not desperated (the opposite of mine). TIA!
Mike is doing a tour of his own Griffith Park in the begining there 😂
Hey Phil, ever think about riding up Baxter in Echo Park or Eldred in Highland Park?
Eldred is ridiculous!
Please go to Mt Rainer park you'd love it there!
I think the lady on the bike was actually waiting for Phil on that climb. She was not even breathing hard. :)
great video! I saved these places on my google maps "want to go" favs. Btw Phill I'm heading over to Brasstown Bald, highest point in Georgia next week, I see you have KOM up there, we'll see if it stands in a week or so. jk about that last part of course.
Is Pecos Bill's still over by Griffith Park? Man their spicy chopped beef sandwich

More singing Phil. How does it feeeeeeeeeeeel
Go to Dodger Stadium next, are there any KOM opp's for Phil at Chavez Ravine/Elysian Park???
Yeah, a few good segments in Elysian...the longest of which is a couple miles with a steep (and quite long) wall at the end of it.
When you said KOMming it sounded borderline demonetized bahahha
So, long time fan but have yet to hear an opinion: when it comes to cookie time, if you would be so kind, describe what you look for in the perfect cookie? Soft, hard, gooey, half-baked, crispy? Always curious.
Keep up the healthy retirement!
Great video. Why is your sky blue? Is that pollution? Here in London it's grey, light grey or dark grey and sometimes very dark grey.
Birdy Mahtats what are you talking about
Lol, now that's funny.
Otherwize known as trash can hill. (unless they've repaired it, the pavement is pretty rough in spots.)
Weird that you didn't mention the previous KOM holder, until I looked to see who it was..
Yeah I treat that guy like voldemort
I look at these guys and I’m like, “damn, I suck at climbing”
If you lived in areas like this it would make you a better climber...I'm in Florida so a lot of Flat roads.
Love how an X pro with a successful RUclips channel says being in a commercial will be the thing that makes him famous
Getting to Griffith Obs is a nightmare
What camera do you use for “selfie” filming?? The quality of images are great!
good question. I guess it's a gopro with selfi-stick
Nice to see all of that not only from GTA5 😂😂😂
New Glasses!
They look like good cookies!
I did a Budlight commercial there once in my youth, 30 years ago. They scouted cyclists out of the once famous Griffith park training ride. The park rangers hate cyclists, so they killed that ride decades ago. Was one of the best training rides in L.A. at the time
I've been there, but I could have swore it was in Los Santos...
Whats with Phil's helmet straps, are they different/twisted? Looks kinda comfy
Any thoughts on what’s happening behind the Thomas and Froome headlines?
When will the cookie jersey be restocked?
What sunglasses are you wearing? I love them!
Goodr!
I guess Phil got rid of his other chinese bike real fast. I already forgot the name. The Factor sounds like it's on rim brakes as well based on the footage. Haven't been on this channel for a while.
The previous bike was Nove, I think.
Dude climb Baxter street in La.
Eldred! 33%!!!
Yessss!!!!!
Way back in the 80’s you didn’t ride some of those closed off roads to the observatory alone. Good chance you run into some shady people that wanted to steal your bike.
Mate, you’re famous already for many of us ( keen cyclists), you don’t need Hollyweird!
What are those sunglasses Mike has?
Have you ever wanted to share a beer with someone you have never met? Damn...that is the way how I feel about Phil...
Hydro shaving helmet!
Yeah that KOM is still f’ed. 😅 nice 👍
what helmet are you wearing?
god what time did you do this, was it like 85-93 degrees during this?
Looks like it was about 2pm. But this was on Aug. 7th so was a bit cooler...probably about 75 degrees.
La zoo is awesome btw,,, for a place jailing a animals… but they’re mostly animals that would be dead in the wild anyway… so theres that.
620 watts at observations climb… yeah.. im usually barely pedaling by then .
As soon as you said Greek theatre I had to listen to if I had $1,000,000 since it references it.
"I told you".....hahah
That’s not fair...the gate was open due to filming and you didn’t have to take the 8’ dirty path! Otherwise, I don’t think you get that KOM...😂
Phil, I'm obviously not qualified to give you any advice on cycling but it sounds like most of your breathing is through your mouth? Nasal breathing provides up to 20% more oxygen absorption. Obviously takes some training since it's restrictive but maybe worth it?
what's with dissin' bill, he was on colombo.
Is that a gilet???
Okay... you didn't film this yesterday when it was 105
According to my deep, deep research......Griffith ain't even close to being the 2nd largest city park.
PR for the mayor and governor since everybody is bailing out!!!!
LOL @ 10:45
Hi Phil,
Absolutely no disrespect to u or anything but if you claim to be clean, and I’m not making any unjustified claims that you’re on enhanced cookies or whatever, then why don’t you just get tested properly and eliminate all doubts about your power numbers?
Just wondering
Muhney's no slouch! What's his best time on the climb?
Muhney's (M$$$) best time on that segment is 21:19.
