"Do it somewhere with a view I suppose" Quarantine might be getting to Phil.
Thumbs up for the one other brave dude actually riding Brasstown on this day
Thanks that was me today lol
“If you can recover at 350 watts...” uh huh I totally can
Dan Culbertson yea I was about to post the same quote lmao
Sure when someone is spinning my wheel! xD
Thats my 7-8 min power.. insane..
Phil at 320W: taking it easy. Me at 320W: DOA.
I held 333 for 30 seconds in my ramp test, then I locked up. These power numbers are staggering.
I rode up Brasstown Bald on the same day you posted this. I saw that you are #1 on Strava whereas I slotted in somewhere slightly over #1000. Your 1st video about North Georgia inspired me to give it a try since I live within sight of the mountain and I had not ridden up it in years. Thanks for the inspiration!
Some great (and painful) memories coming back watching this. Have been in Rockies for past 20+ years but really cut my cycling teeth, both recreationally and racing, in the SE U.S. back in 90s/early 00s. Miss a lot of those great climbs. N. Georgia, Highlands/Cashiers area in SW NC and all along the spine of the lower Appalachian Mnts. Trees, thick undergrowth, fog, punchy climbs, moss covered rocky outcroppings... made for some amazing rides. Thanks for the post. 😎🤜🏻🤛🏻
We were from Cincy/Chicago and chatted with you that day. and you Passed Sergey as he was descending brass town. We did 6 gap, I think Sergey did a modified 7 Gap + Brasstown. The longest 7 hours in the rain ever.
Truly inspiring Phil! I follow all your KOM challenges. In these crazy times it's great to see you "doin what you do" so bloody well.
Well done. Also what a lovely mum you have filming you.
Man, I went to college at Young Harris just over the hill from Brasstown. I need to get back up there and go ride, thanks for the video Phil!
I watched Magnus Sheffield absolutely murder it at the Really Rad Festival of Cyclocross in MA this past November. Dude is a monster. I can see where taking his KOM would be a chore.
And he's still a wee baby!
That climb is EPIC! Thanks for the memory mate! There’s a 5km run up it in December to which I finished 3rd one year in it. Running in the off season lol!
I found the middle and last third of Brasstown Bald to be brutal! I was happy to see that last switchback.
I climbed a ten percent today. And that made me want to puke a lung...
Modern gear ratios allows weekend warriors to climb it these days. Pre-EPO ppl would show up with 42x21 or 23. Seems silly now of course. Even in early Lance days 39x23 was considered a granny gear. Nice channel Phil
Fantastic to watch, as well as very inspirational 🚴🏻♂️
Amazing work Phil ⚡️⚡️
The dislikes are the squeaky chains on a group ride
Yeah, Atlanta was like this a lot. Got tired of it sort of raining for the better part of fall and winter.
i just now realised the intro tune is a punk cover of "i want to ride my bicycle"
Bad Religion made it for me!
@@worstretirementever That's so cool! Bad Religion rule!
That looks like a brutal climb! Good on you!
Ever ride up Becky Mountain Road in Brevard, NC? Super, SUPER steep! I think you'd like it.
Phil, you have got the best n the world. I hope you stay happy, bro! inspiring! A great insight
I started to hurt just watching this. Brass Town is no joke.
Nice video. The camera doesn’t capture the gradients, which makes it easier to watch the suffering somehow. Great job!
Lol recover at 350. Different planet
Phil. Your numbers are still insanely good. You could easily get a contract for a WT team and be a super domestique in the mountains!
Fantastic effort Phil!!..It hurt a lot just to watch! lol
You should come ride Pittsburgh’s dirty dozen later this year! 12 of Pitts steepest hills.
Pittsburgh would make a great location for a cat 2 classic on the American Tour.
Oh man that’s steep plus some altitude- nice
this reminds me of Hamburg Road in Frederick MD, or Coxey Brown. If you're ever in the area, those are yours to beat (Jeremiah bishop holds most of the strava KOMs)
That hurt just watching it. But other-worldly with the fog/clouds.
Phil, as always, great KOM dorkery!
But, comparing to the intro music, which is like 5W/kg, your background music while grinding up those KOMs is way too chill!
Drop some nice tunes on that so we can enjoy even more, while being lazy at the same time. :)
Cheers,
R.
Tool - Invincible perhaps?
Vegan cyclist style edit, those make me feel like I'm not on my sofa
I'd love to see you enter a zwift race as part of your retirement
Been up there many times. My CAR groans going up there. I wouldn't have to commit suicide at the top, I'd die much further down the hill. Easier on the meat wagon that way I guess. Awesome job cookie man.
also Magnus Sheffield is a top 3 u-23 US crosser.
And 3rd in Yorkshire
I feel like Phil is crushing it with the Factor. I don't remember this much success with the NOVE.
bluemystic7501 like it does Make a difference...
@@edojacob7493 Are you saying the bike does or doesn't matter?
@@bluemystic7501 at that level and price all bikes are the same, especially if we're talking climbing bikes which are needed to be light and super stiff while aerodynamics (that is where brands are spending real money in ReD to innovate) is not as important.
Yes, there might be some slight difference from one bike to another but it's marginal.
@@edojacob7493 I agree with what you said but am I wrong in my observation? Sometimes a bike just works for the rider. There is an interesting podcast about frame stiffness and sort of syncing with your bike. I don't know, maybe I'm reading too much into it.
Geeze man that thing is super steep. Video doesn't do it justice at all.
Killed it
Great effort, Phil! I would be glad if you could add metric units to your overlay - it's exhausting to always do the on-the-fly-conversions.
Feel the same here
Nice watts man.
Great work Phil - makes me wanna brutalize my body. Could see you flagging, but you hung in there and did it again💪=👑.
As for seeing 4 states, couldn't even see 4 yards👌
my favorite Brasstown Bald memory is watching Cesar Grajales (Jittery Joe's) beat LA to the top at 2007 Tour de GA
I liked meeting Bob Roll and having Mario Cippolini ride past in 2004 and yell "Poosh, poosh me big man!" towards the top of this climb
@@HydeMyJekyll I met Bubka that day too. Really nice guy, although I remember he seemed too big to be a bike racer. I also heard about Cippo asking for a push too from friends along the climb. It was thrilling to see Grajales win. Jensie and Lance looked knackered trying to catch him. Great day on the mountain.
Phil have you ever attempted the KOM for Old La Honda Road located in Northern California's Portola Valley?
Brad Bianco check Strava. I think he has OLH.
He has the KOM, unless this is some inside joke I don't get
@@christopherguzik4459 Hi. On my side it was a genuine question. I didn't check Strava before asking. Google still has Eric Heiden posted as the current holder of Old La Honda at something like 14:10. Have you ridden it? It's deceptively tough! Have a great day!
@@bradbianco9842 I have, San Mateo county currently has really strict rules about entering the county so for now I'm relegated to some of the southern climbs like Mt Um and Hammy. I think It would be fun to watch Phil go for a climb like Umunuhm or Montebello because of their deceptive profiles but incredible steepness in areas
@Brad Blanco he was up in 13:26 on strava, he said in his Mt hammy episode the footage from the climb was stolen when his car was broken into
do you plan on a bike-shirt with cookies people can wear on thier bike from castelli?
phils fondo website/shop

My goal in life be the 2.0/3.0 of this guy
Do your knees ever ache?
Great video, maybe a little edgy about the suicide story part, lost a friend recently, hard to joke about....
What’s your weight?
People that cycle in fog like that end up in horror films
He said he's riding AXS but was it a 1x or double?
2x
If you actually watched the video you would know.
@@OldSlow Yeah, I mean, he only said that around the halfway mark. It was kind of hard to see the fine details on my phone. Sorry to upset you.
@@kenhunt Thanks.
How many needles do you go through in one week?
Far fewer than you go through tissue boxes
Yeah id like to keep things clean ;)
This power sustained is a joke???, which is your weight??
he is ~ 70-72kg 155-160lb roughly.
That hill looks fucking horrible!
Pacing was terrible Phil. You only got it by a minute.
