    Nice work I just subscribed after watching part one, two and this, I cut two pieces of aluminum with the plasma cutter one for the dam and one for the inside against the back, many good ideas from your series of videos on the transom, ie the epoxy (over 150 must of went up some from 3 years ago) I like the pvc board idea but i might go with an aluminum support for the middle welded in on the inside back and epoxied in on the dam aluminum, or possible a liquid transom, depends if i can learn how to use the tig tomorrow, nice job on the boat what a fishing machine that will be

    Two questions. Have you ever replaced a bow plate? How is that curve achieved? And what is the price difference of this type of pvc? And one request to make a video of how you fab up that trim piece. Three welding shops just laughed at me when I tried to get them to make one for me that disintegrated upon removal.

  • @tommyparker6187

    Should I drill out the holes before I install the new transom or pit the wood in first then try to drill them out? I don't have the old one as a guide, it got destroyed removing it

    Hey Jeff, I know this is an old one, but I'm wondering, is the pvc lighter than the wood? Also, could you use pvc on a fiberglass transom? Thanks

    • @bowl830
      @bowl830  4 месяца назад +1

      It is lighter. I don’t see why not, I’ve never messed with fiberglass boats much. But I got a friend who has used pvc with no issues. He held it in with resin/epoxy. And pretty much made it a permanent part of the hull.

    Enjoyed watching this, excellent tutorial. Thanks much. I need to do the same thing. First problem is my transom has a top that is welded on and riveted in. I watched your video on rivets and may try it. How would I break those welds?

    • @bowl830
      @bowl830  3 года назад +1

      Use a really thin cut off wheel and try to cut them without getting too deep in the parent material. It can be done. Just take your time.

    Two questions, did you use anything to drill the holes straight so they lined up on the backside? And where did u get the new hardware? I can't find the bolts anywhere

    • @bowl830
      @bowl830  9 месяцев назад

      I didn’t use anything to line it up. I just made sure I was square to the face of the transom. I ordered the hardware from Amazon. I think there’s a link in the description.

      I never go bigger than the factory max. But this transom can support about anything I put on it. The issue becomes weight vs buoyancy.

  • @iBaloo42
    @iBaloo42 Год назад

    Jeff, did you glue the aluminum plate to the PVC? If yes, isn't any issue with the thermal expansion/contraction difference between the aluminum and PVC board? As I've read, the thermal coefficient of these materials is quite different...

    Ordered washers off of amazon. They were out of TUOREN brand so I got another type. They look the same. Also did you put silicone in holes before you put bolts/washers in thru transom? Also where did you get the bolts with the phillips heads? They are 1/4" correct?

    What type of pvc board did you use? I have about 20 sheets of 3/4" pvc board that's used for signs and I didn't think it was going to be strong enough. Maybe with 2 layers and the aluminum it would be. I had originally bought it to do the floor on my pontoon but it had a little more flex than I was comfortable with.

    • @bowl830
      @bowl830  3 года назад +1

      The stuff I use is made for construction. I’m sure it’s probably the same. This has flex but when you add the resin it really stiffened up.
