    Very nice episode! Totally get it why they use foam boards glassed over rather than glass board like cuss’s makes board. It is all about weight. You’ll get some great performance out of that build for sure. Better than wood and still light.

      To sound like it's stronger imo. 1708, 1808, 1708, 1808, etc sounds WAY stronger then 6 layers of 1708 and then 1.5 oz mat. No real benefit of alternating them imo. I do repairs not build boats so I'm not 100% sure.

    Great boats, it’s very rare that a boat isn’t built with plywood or balsa wood! These boats are unique and one of a kind! Viking yachts use so much wood in their Yacht is like going to Home Depot and starting a complete Home Remodel! Million plus yachts build 75 percent out of wood! Latitude Boats are much better than Viking Termite Yachts!

    I've never heard a bad thing about LTB. Quite the opposite. Solid build and solid customer service. If I had to question one thing it would be the lack of a little technology to help production. A CNC machine to cut Coosa and whatever else they use for the stringers and bulkheads. Not that a CNC makes it better but it would quicken the process.

    2:18 "reinforced with fiberglass" exactly. It is the glass that gives the strength, not what the glass is being layered over. Would I rather not have wood, sure, but Parker would be out of business if wood did not work. Their quality / customer satisfaction is very high. Anyway, this is not an ad for Parker. I do not own one.

    • @kylewalker7072
      @kylewalker7072 4 года назад

      that depends. Are you saying that solid wood stringers like Robalo used to use added no strength?

    • @primate2744
      @primate2744 4 года назад

      This is a tired and well-addressed argument. If the original construction of the vessel was intended to only use the wood as a coring to shape the composites laid over it and it was done correctly then in theory the wood could rot away and no harm done. If on the other hand the wood was originally used for structural integrity and composite work was skimped on then obviously when the wood rotted there would be issues. Obviously there are other factors, mainly that most woods absorb moisture and hold it which even if not affecting the structural integrity does add weight and possible other negative factors. This is why a closed cell foam is a desirable coring material choice.

I’m always willing to take advice from fellow tradesmen. I’m not to prideful to say I can’t learn from someone else’s experience. We are old school, building strong solid boats the old school way.
