@@Projektor_music in my current modular techno setup I avoid phase issues by sculpting the rumble directly from the kick. setting the decay of the kick long enough and routing a 1/16th or 1/8th envelope to the pitch gives a nice, continuous low-end and I can define the tone by the decay and the sustain of the envelope. it can do clicky bass too.
@@lommelinn yeah but I don't think a real rumble (if you use any kind of reverb) needs to be actually phase alligned. I'd think the point of techno is to be a bit more messy than psytrance
Question: how do you keep the bass phase aligned with the kick if you play various notes in the bass? ... also, i'm assuming you use a tonal kick that has a sustained note at the end of it to phase align your bass to it, right?
At first thanks for the great Tutorial. In the first part you explain, how you prefer to not bounce the bassline, what I'd definitely prefer. but when you explain your Bass Allpass Rack at 01:08:38 it introduces a lot of postringing. how do you handle that without bouncing the bassline?
This video is very old and things have changed a lot for me. anytime you dela with post ringing you have to resample of course but I've developed several techniques that allow for the phase shifting to happen without any need for post ringing, you can find those here: ruclips.net/p/PLiHjNW26F3PvpBk411t4xbFU6d2F5Jjh7 I'm actually working on an updated version of this video for my Psytrancfe fr beginners series but that will take quite a while actually...

This seems great so far do you have a suggestion on a reasonably affordable kick pack thats actually good? I am trying to make some myself but i feel my sample library doesn't have any good psy kicks to refer to

@@Thanos1908 well you can disagree all you want i guess, but my opinion on this is final. I've had many many people ask for the presets for various different reasons, but they all boil down to not wanting to do the work and learning. @@Projektor_music No worries.👍 I was interested in the custom waveform you were using (as in , what differences does it bare when compared to a similar "vanilla" waveform ) and any LFOs etc you might have had assigned that affected the sound...but as you clarified that's not info you feel needs to be shared. Ps. i'm not being lazy , but i can appreciate where you are coming from. It seems to be a common complaint amongst content creators such as yourself. @@Thanos1908 idk the patch I show at 15:00 uses the default serum waveform (a basic upward saw wave). I also show both LFO's that are actually assigned to something (all other LFO's don't do anything) I don't want to accuse you specifically of being lazy, it's not that personal. this is an old video before I understood the details of inter harmonic phase relationships. I've done many tutorials since then (including a very cool one coming out tomorrow). I'm also working on a replacement for this video. The short answer is yes, you would need to use processing in a way that phase shifts certain harmonics more than others to achieve this effect. The problem of cleanlyness remains though and you do need to take care of that. as I said there will be a replacement for this video going more in depth on all of the things covered in this tutorial and much more!
Hello! I do the kick and bass in Ableton as in the video, then export it to a wav file and continue working in FL Studio. Tell me, is it possible to do this? Or is the sound disrupted?
When it becomes to align the kick and the bass, if i have effects that introduce a lot of latency (linear-phase eq for example), in Psyscope the samples change position. So it is impossible to align the kick and the bass visually. Any idea how i can override this issue? On another DAW i don't have this.
Thank you for the great tutorial. I have a weird question. Sometimes when I create a psytrance kick+bassline it sounds off, but when I hold my headphones a few centimeters from my ears it sounds perfect (I noticed this by random). Is this effect caused by phase problems?
@@Projektor_musicI meant 5/4, not 5/5 haha. funny when you Google "what time signature is psytrance" their AI answer is 5/4. But listening to your examples maybe it's just the envelope or something that creates the feel I'm thinking of.
OK I realized I was all mixed up. I wasn't thinking of time signatures, they're definitely 4/4. What I should have asked about is the notes within a beat. I don't know the right terms. But I think of 4 possible notes within a beat. You could have kick - bass pulse - bass pulse - bass pulse all evenly spaced. In my head I was wondering if those pulses could be clustered around the middle of the beat in some way
That would be octaves. harmonics are multiples of the fundamental at x2 for second harmonic x3 for third harmonic and so on. You can verify this yourself by looking at the harmonics of a pure saw wave through a spectrum analyzer...

@@OOD2021 IDK, acoustics I guess
@@Projektor_music Thanks. Keep up the good work, and if i find out what kind of phenomenon is responsible for this I will let you know :P
I try to download the presets but it gives me an .adg file not a preset file that I can use in Cubase?
yeah the bass rack is for ableton, it won't work in Cubase
@@Projektor_music do you know any good tutorials for it for Cubase? Appreciate it
love u
Thank you!
What about 5/5 signatures? I feel like some tracks have a swing, or doublet on the offbeat
Edit : 5/4, not 4/4
I personally haven't heard any psytrance outside of 4/4
@@Projektor_musicI meant 5/4, not 5/5 haha. funny when you Google "what time signature is psytrance" their AI answer is 5/4. But listening to your examples maybe it's just the envelope or something that creates the feel I'm thinking of.
@@bobbym6130 5/4? glad to hear it will still take a while for AI to take over my job...
In my head I was wondering if those pulses could be clustered around the middle of the beat in some way
urm, i though harmonics went up exponentialy, so instead of 100 200 300 @9:46 it would be 100 200 400 ? :P
That would be octaves. harmonics are multiples of the fundamental at x2 for second harmonic x3 for third harmonic and so on. You can verify this yourself by looking at the harmonics of a pure saw wave through a spectrum analyzer...
@@Projektor_music aah yes exact ok, i didn't realise harmonics went up this way
