    "... and you just spend a lot of time working on working on very small details which, as I explained before, might not always be what you want"
    This is a key part in my opinion to being able to finish a track. The amount of times I have spent an hour fiddling with a sound and then just get annoyed and quit + "don't save"...
    Losing flow and creative drive because of too many options as a sound designer/producer has cost me SO MUCH TIME.

    Fun fact: you can type 1/16 as a decay value in Serum's ADSR, instead of milliseconds - and it will convert 1/16 to the ms according to the project's BPM

    • @lommelinn
      @lommelinn Год назад

      @@Projektor_music in my current modular techno setup I avoid phase issues by sculpting the rumble directly from the kick. setting the decay of the kick long enough and routing a 1/16th or 1/8th envelope to the pitch gives a nice, continuous low-end and I can define the tone by the decay and the sustain of the envelope. it can do clicky bass too.

      @Projektor_music  Год назад +1

      Normally i would agree with you, but it is the "starting position" that i am referring to and not the end product.
      Being on a different DAW than you (and having access to different VSTs) it makes it a lot easier if there is a common starting point...so i can at least approximate by ear.

      @@Projektor_music No worries.👍
      I was interested in the custom waveform you were using (as in , what differences does it bare when compared to a similar "vanilla" waveform ) and any LFOs etc you might have had assigned that affected the sound...but as you clarified that's not info you feel needs to be shared.
      Ps. i'm not being lazy , but i can appreciate where you are coming from. It seems to be a common complaint amongst content creators such as yourself. (people lifting riffs etc from tutorials instead of using them as inspiration/educational content) 👍

      @@Thanos1908 idk the patch I show at 15:00 uses the default serum waveform (a basic upward saw wave). I also show both LFO's that are actually assigned to something (all other LFO's don't do anything)
      I don't want to accuse you specifically of being lazy, it's not that personal. The issue is that if I provide the preset to you, I have to do it to everyone. It would be unfair to discriminate from person to person.
      If you need extra help with anything you can always comment or write me on my discord server or privately.

      this is an old video before I understood the details of inter harmonic phase relationships. I've done many tutorials since then (including a very cool one coming out tomorrow). I'm also working on a replacement for this video. The short answer is yes, you would need to use processing in a way that phase shifts certain harmonics more than others to achieve this effect. The problem of cleanlyness remains though and you do need to take care of that. as I said there will be a replacement for this video going more in depth on all of the things covered in this tutorial and much more!

      Could also work but shaperbox might introduce a phase shift as it uses a filter (I presume)

    When it becomes to align the kick and the bass, if i have effects that introduce a lot of latency (linear-phase eq for example), in Psyscope the samples change position. So it is impossible to align the kick and the bass visually. Any idea how i can override this issue? On another DAW i don't have this.

    Thank you for the great tutorial. I have a weird question. Sometimes when I create a psytrance kick+bassline it sounds off, but when I hold my headphones a few centimeters from my ears it sounds perfect (I noticed this by random). Is this effect caused by phase problems?

      OK I realized I was all mixed up. I wasn't thinking of time signatures, they're definitely 4/4. What I should have asked about is the notes within a beat. I don't know the right terms. But I think of 4 possible notes within a beat. You could have kick - bass pulse - bass pulse - bass pulse all evenly spaced. In my head I was wondering if those pulses could be clustered around the middle of the beat in some way

    urm, i though harmonics went up exponentialy, so instead of 100 200 300 @9:46 it would be 100 200 400 ? :P

    • @Projektor_music
      @Projektor_music  2 года назад

      That would be octaves. harmonics are multiples of the fundamental at x2 for second harmonic x3 for third harmonic and so on. You can verify this yourself by looking at the harmonics of a pure saw wave through a spectrum analyzer...
