- Alex Murdaugh’s surviving son took the stand Tuesday and testified in his father’s family murders trial. Buster Murdaugh recalled the moment he learned that his brother, Paul, and mother, Maggie, were shot and killed at their South Carolina home in June 2021. The 26-year-old also detailed various inner workings of the disgraced lawyer’s family, including how they communicated and dealt with disputes, before explaining any knowledge of his father’s struggle with addiction and alleged financial crimes.

A normal parent wouldn't be smiling at their child, testifying in court. They'd feel horrible that they're absorbed into this, even years after. Alex thinks this is what people would want to see, to see his "innocence" but he doesn't realize, it's extremely out of character for a parent to be happy about seeing their child doing something they shouldn't have to do.
That's all I could think. I tried with so many losses for years to be a parent, and my family is my whole world, but I don't smile 24/7. I would be crying or even sobbing, guilty or not, involved or not, to see my child in that position. Psychopaths are usually better at reading the room and/or situational societal expectations, but in my opinion, this one got it WAY off base and I don't think it will sit well with all the jurors feet from him.
@@phillisob I hope that they see right through him.
@@virginiaknighten4687 I'm hesitant to agree without clarification (cause...the internet lol). I'm not on the jury; I'm not the judge; and I wasn't at the crime scene. But no matter what, he has incredibly suspect behavior and I personally find this display unbelievably disturbing. But I do hope that his demeanor is a consideration as part of the evidence!
so true!
Alec is having an “that’s my boy “ moment
I'm only 5 mins in but Alex looks like he's smiling seeing his son up there. He looks so proud its scary
He is smiling !!
That is because he believes his son's testimony will exonerate him! Delusional like that orange man comes to mind.
just noticed that. Its yucky.
Creepy actually
Maybe he's just happy to see his son. Guilty or not it's hard for me to judge him for smiling when his son is reminiscing about better times
Ah the thing about narcissists is that their body language doesn’t match what they’re SUPPOSED to look like in a innocent, normal person. Alex there beaming at his star child rather than feeling guilty about destroying his other child and wife is beyond words. I hope the jury is seeing this for what it is and reach the right verdict.
😂🤣 where is your evidence that he did anything? People like you make me sick
Wow thought the exact same thing before I commented.
They’re the worst actors
That's the first thing I saw too. Was with a narcissist way too long. But on the stand all he talked about was Paul. Busters gonna be messed up idc about any evils any of them boys done they didn't deserve this.
I thought that was weird too!
Plain to see that is his favorite son. Just can’t seem to stop smiling.
How long had Maggie been living away from Alex...its a gotcha moment.
well I think we know that because he is alive lol
Not a lot of options now for "favorite" son
Nah I think he's smiling because he thinks that conveys a loving father. What people would want to see to know he's innocent. That assumption however is wrong. I think most of us would have eyes filled with tears and a heart full of guilt watching our child up there.
In his own way he loved Paul, but he was in his way. Soon things was going to get even worse. He would’ve had killed buster as well if he was there that night, no doubt about it.
Alex is creeping me out even more than usual the way he is smiling at Buster on the stand . Like he’s watching him give a Golden Globes speech
😆
😂😂😂
Well, to be fair, all of those people making Golden Globe speeches have all committed the same atrocities that Alex did, only difference was it was done in secret and probably on a much larger scale. LOL let's be real..my goodness.
😂😂😂
Exactly like huh????! That man definitely did it. I mean he literally hardly ever had remorse. No crying, no sad looks, or nothing. His head was held high like he know he was the man.
Who else think Alex is smiling because buster is doing a good job going with the flow of the story
I thought the exact same.
Yes!
Nah I think he's smiling because it's he's son
He looks at him like hes saying...Buster i gave you a windfall...you inherit it all. Thats alecs sick mind.
I don’t understand how AM is smiling knowing that Buster lost his mother and brother.
My brain would be beyond deep fried if this was my family. I wouldn’t be able to eat, sleep, talk, let alone do this like a walk in the park
Each of them are suspected of killing someone. Buster allegedly killed Steven Smith, Maggi (the mom) allegedly killed the housekeeper, Paul killed Mallory Beach, and Alex allegedly killed Paul and Maggie. Alex stole from the housekeeper’s kids, from a teenager who was in an accident and many others. Plus all the cover ups, which were many, with Paul and Buster. This is a wretched family all together!
Yes, allegations make people wretched. Oh, wait......allegations are just allegations. Well off families usually have a lot of allegations because people are jealous.
@@teahesse stealing doesnt make you well off. I think people are more scared or intimidated by this family than jealous....so they ignore the red flags.
There is absolutely zero evidence connecting any of the Murdochs to steven smith's death
That poor housekeeper was with that family for 20 years and did everything for them. I can't imagine what went through her mind before Alex pushed her (Allegedly).
Son is a murderer too!! So glad this man was found guilty. What a evil family
OMG, Alec beaming at his son. Normal people would be devastated that their kid were in this position.
Beams proudly at Buster, but shoots Paul's brains out? Doesn't add up.
Makes me sick
Why do they kill so many animals

Thats a sociopaths eyes
Same….
Read about eyes of narcissists. This exactly
They have the most soulless eyes I have ever seen. It’s disturbing.
I dunno. The eyes are weird, but he has redhead dot eyes. Like Conan.
My heart goes out to Buster. He’s lost his Mom, brother, Grandfather at such a young age and I hope some family members will just embrace him and care about him.
For anyone saying Buster is going to inherit property, life insurance money, etc, remember that now that his father has admitted all the money he's stolen, all those people (or their estates) will be filing law suits. There won't be anything left to the son.
Exactly. Buster did try to sell off Alex's property and hide his money, but the judge froze the Murdaugh's assets and put it into a receivership.
There will be nothing left for Buster from his parents's estate after the lawsuits filed are against the estate. Buster could still be pretty wealthy if he was ever willed any money from his grandparents who were wealthy independently from Alex.
@@powerboatguy2308 Not sure about his mothers side but alex’s father (busters grandfather) passed away around the time of the murders, if his mother (busters grandmother) is already dead than the money would already be transferred or in the process

I’m no lawyer but I can honestly say I found Murdoch’s smiling from ear to ear when his son took the stand to be quite strange. What I gather is that Murdoch knew his son would have his back. mona2242: Many people agree with you mona- as do I. I want to add that I recon Alec killed Paul and Maggie because he did not trust them to stand by him in the fraud cases- like Buster would.

She found the pills before that fyi

Something is OFF.
Big Daddy's proud smile during his murder case, his only remaining child Busters testimony during his mother and only brother head blown off.... hmmmm. creepy AF
You said it!!!
It’s not creepy for a father to smile at his son. Can’t possibly be nonstop non emotion/sadness.
@@DrivenA111 I agree. I don’t hold a position on this I really don’t know but I would be so saddened if I was accused of something I didn’t do. I actually have been and it’s devastating. Almost worse than the crime itself because you can’t come away from it. Plus everyone is mad at Jodi Ares lack of emotion than someone emoting. The accused can never win on that one. I really don’t know but I hope if he is innocent he is found to be so and I hope if he is guilty he is found to be so.
Isn’t it odd that Buster didn’t know his own father’s birthday, but were so close, spoke multiple times a day. He obviously was prepped by the attorneys to convey what a wonderful father Alex was, they should’ve made sure he at least knew his birthday.
I said to myself wth!! Who doesn't know their parent's exact birthday. I can see year maybe but actual day cmon man
I dont always recall my dad's 🤷 I remember Mom's better

I was laughing out loud at that but because he clearly did not get what the lawyer was driving at - and through that, imho sealed his fate. At no point was he ever concerned that “someone’s on my land” or that he could be next. Why? Because nobody was on his land. He did it.
Buster has obviously been coached for this testimony
Of course

Buster shows zero emotion about the fact his brother and mother was murdered. For them to be a close family he seems clueless when answering questions.
I wouldn't believe anything Buster says. He probably has just as many skeletons in his closet as his Dad.
I think he has. He was kicked out of law school for cheating. Daddy was trying to get him back in. I think they’re all tarred with the same brush. Nasty entitled children who think they can do what they like and if they get caught lie about it.

I dunno. Buster has dot eyes.
Buster shows noooooo emotion, WOW!
His mom and brother were gunned down and yet he testifies with a non-chalant attitude, WOW!!!
its good that buster testified. Because buster shot himself in the foot so many times and his hand gestures and facial expressions he makes every time he lied on the stand says it all. He lied about where they park the car at night because the grass is nice and green and there is no dead grass with no tyre marks or track marks which would have deformed the land the land wouldnt be straight it would have deep grooves in it.
At start of testimony he said when they go at night they park at back and then go straight into the house through the back door because it is closest to his grandmas room. He never mentioned that he had to call anyone to get into the house from the back door. But when asked again later on, he said that you knock on the door and no one will hear you , so you have to call then walk to the front of the house to get in.
He also said that he and alex never went back to mossel. But then when asked again later he said that he did go back but not to sleep there.
Also buster had no idea that paul wasn't being sued for boat accident. Buster thought it was just himself his dad and maggie. Buster plays that they call each other every day all the time even with that example on the day of the murder with 10 phone calls back and forth. But he wasn't that close to his family to know that paul wasn't being sued ? How could he not know that. So to me it isn't normal that they communicate that much during the day everyday because all of those calls where either not answered , a 4 min phone call . So something was going on that day that there was so many calls occuring and being ignored most likely a fight on the phone about money regarding the boat accident case which was going to take place 3 days later. To me buster and alex got fired up enough on the 7the june to coax paul and maggie to the mossel location to get rid of them.
He remembers just the stuff that would help his dad and forgets what would be suspicious. He is covering for his dad. Those phone conversations he had before the shooting with his mom are important and yet he doesnt remember and yet that was the last time he talked to her. Wow
A well orchestrated, detailed and rehearsed testimony
All testimonies are rehearsed. Whats your point?
Just like every major news story, reality TV show, and celebrity interview. All fake BS, all people just putting on a show and showing people what they want us to think or know. So this really is no different than the everyday BS.
BUSTER SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ALLOWED TO TAKE THE STAND SINCE HE WAS PRESENT IN THE COURT, WAS ABLE TO LISTEN TO ALL THE WITNESSES. THIS IS A DOUBLE-MURDER CASE INVOLVING A VERY INFLUENTIAL FAMILY IN THEIR STATE.
What is absolutely ridiculous is that all the witnesses have been in the courtroom while others testified... Every last one of them I have never heard of such a thing
I agree but its on tv
I thought you weren't allowed in the courtroom prior to testifying but could afterwards if you wanted..Buster has been in the courtroom for the entire proceedings. Why?

@@74Phoebe Alex’s voice was heard on a Snapchat Paul made 6 minutes before both his and Maggie’s phones were used for the last time. Pretty significant piece of evidence. It took SLED a year to hack into Paul’s phone and find this evidence. Prior to this, Alex had lied up until his testimony last week saying he was at the house and not at the kennels. This video proved otherwise and he was forced to admit he had been at the murder scene less than 10 minutes before it was suspected that they were killed. It takes less than 2 minutes to drive the golf cart from the kennels to the house. He claims he left immediately after the video and heard and saw nothing thereafter.
These people are like politicians. It’s not about truth or lies, it’s about making people believe what they say. I doubt much consideration went into Alex’s decision in terms of ‘should I, or shouldn’t I?’ It was all about how can I do this and get away with it.

It’s surreal watching the son testify in front of his father who we know killed his mother and brother. Buster needs to be investigated also, he's far from innocent.
I wonder why they didn’t let him hear the “it’s a chicken” tape? So he could testify that his dad was at the kennels that evening.
I can’t believe it either.
AM is all smiles..so creepy
Not sure why this prolonged interview with Buster is needed or useful !?!
You can sure tell that he loves and admires his oldest son.
Great! If you're on trial for murder, why not get a murderer* to testify to your good character!
* of Stevie Smith
He seems sus 🤨 to me. Seems like they are blaming Paul any chance they can get.
I agree! Buster was quick to say he left guns, lost phones, and I don't know one young 22 year old that doesn't have their phone in their hand 24/7!..lol
Alex is totally smiling, smirking while his son is approaching the stand and answering questions... He's putting on a Show so everyone thinks he's loving and caring. -C
Listening to Buster talk about their family made me so envious. I’d love for my two kids to have that type of family life. And then I snap back to reality. Alex ruined it all. 😡
How sad is this that Buster is trying his best in defending his father. And Alex is so proud of him you can tell just by the way he's looking at him that Alex loves his boy Buster.
Looking forward to Buster's trial.
@@gmamagillmore4812 haha same! Even with that name he's destined to be a real POS.
@@gmamagillmore4812 yes!
Do you know the Word “dinail “, and what it means?
@@69LOLIN you mean "denial"?
Why does Alex look so proud? His son is not interviewing for law school.... He's testifying at the trial of his murdered brother and mother! So much dysfunction!!
Exactly…..only disordered thinking would allow one to be proud of this
The thing that surprised me the most during Buster's testimony was that he did not know his father's birthday!
While Alex kept creepy staring at the jury, Buster sat there and lied. He couldn't remember ANY of the calls the day of the murder, didn't know his dad's b'day, where he lived a year ago, or why there was an expiration date on the reward money. Even tho he said he helped write it up! But, he DID know EVERY weapon in the gun room and what daddy was wearing 2 1/2 YEARS ago. He was coached, badly.
I hope Brooklyn can wake up and realize what kind of family this is
How can he testify his dad checked on “M” frequently when he wasn’t living there. I’m surprised prosecution hasn’t been objecting as heresay.
Pros would look bad to “badger” the “kid”
The family did not believe Paul was driving the boat. In spite of how many witnesses? I don’t think Buster can be relied upon to say anything that may be construed as disloyal to his weirdly grinning father
Entitlement = always blame someone else.
It's not that they didn't believe, they knew for sure but they wanted someone else to take the blame, it's in a documentary with video footage and witnesses.
@@hannakhan3982 it was crazy to hear Buster say that on the stand
He knows he was. The kids in the boat have video proof.
To be fair There were a lot of different witnesses saying different things. Some of them said Paul wasn't driving.
He forgot to mention he was kicked out of South Carolina.
Alex seems so proud that his son is testifying ….in a murder case ..in his mother and brother murder case by his father….this is so sickening!
Everyone has an opinion here on how Buster should be acting or saying. This young mans mother and brother were both
murdered. With his dad being accused how is any person supposed to act at this point in a court room.? Busters life will
never be the same and who knows how this will affect him and the people around him.
I'm curious to know more about Stephen Smith.
Right?? There’s no guideline for grief or when and where it outwardly effects you. It’s pretty gross how so many have condemned this family without evidence. Thankfully they’re not the jury. Idk if Alex is guilty or not. But it’s not been proven one way or another.
Exactly 💯.
@@psychedforlife7176 thank you!
It's blowing my mind all this compassion for poor Buster here in the comments.
Has everyone forgotten about the real victims of this family?
Buster belongs in jail for life, in a jail administered by African-Americans who will keep him in chains.
Buster said Alex only had his phone on him occasionally yet the staff said he always had his phone on him.
Idk how many people watch interrogation videos on RUclips but, Buster is reacting to the questions like how a serial killer acts during an interrogation. Also, him and his dad make a lot of the same movements while Buster is on the stand (I’ve already time stamped that in a previous comment) Buster knows something. And I don’t know why Alex looks so proud because, surely, investigators and cops will see how Buster acts during this and I hope will question him further. This is so odd.
Why so many guns?
Buster knows everything. He has to. His dad was there 3 mins before they died. Of course he asked him WTF? And then goes to the beach with him after?!? I’d of been terrified I’d be next!
They're 2 peas in a pod. The ole " apple didn't fall far from the tree "
31:33 the lawyer asked him what is to the right of the house, and buster failed to mention that there is a car parked there which is what the lawyer was pointing out for him to say, but buster missed it. Then at 32.16 buster says that when they are at the back door if you knocked no one can hear you knocking so you have to call then walk to the front of the house and enter the front of the house. But in his testimony a few minutes earlier, he said that at night time when they always parked at the back they go to te back door and then walk into the house from the back door without calling anyone. And his end reaction when he finishes this statement he again is unable to look straight at the jury only a quick glance because he knows he isnt honest
Alex mardaugh definitely bought the wrong lawyers to defend him instead of buying competent lawyers he chose lawyers I think with the same snotty attitude and reputation as himself smh
The proud smiling at his son testifying is so weird!
Wow, Alex, smiling is creepy. How could he be doing that while his son is on the witness stand after his mother and brother were murdered.
Funny the cell phone service worked on that 911 call just fine 🤔
He doesn't shed a tear are seem upset when talking about his brother and mother. Just seems cold are brainwashed
