      @@thegreatdominion949you're an idiot if you think that we have any response that would impact America that won't destroy us. 30% of Canada's GDP and dollar value is directly oil, another 15-20% is based off of processing non oil based oil byproducts (such as benzene, xylene, parrafin wax, etc), and building the things to backup or build the oilfield such as a large portion of the easts steel industry. How about cutting off 80% of Ontario's, Quebec's, BC's and the Maritimes economies? How would you feel about that? They're the ones who have put Alberta and to a far lesser extend Saskatchewan, in the position that we have exactly one customer for oil.

    Trumps call for Tariffs, while they could be a smoke screen for other things he wants like border control, was a wakeup call for Canadians. This country can be so much more than it is. Energy is one of our most lucrative resources and only being able to sell it at a discount to the US hurts us immensely. We need pipelines built in order to lessen our dependence on the Americans. That would be a start.

    • @tysmith4705
      @tysmith4705 11 дней назад

      Exactly. Remember all the pipelines that were approved by the feds in the last 10 years. Remember how every time a pipeline either ruptured or was broke? Always near the existing line that they wanted to put in..
      After this, I most definitely think Trudeau paid the activists to sabotage those pipelines in order to give an excuse to shut the new lines down and to keep any extra money left over from putting the original motion through.

    • @MrGraywolves
      @MrGraywolves 11 дней назад

      Just think...if we had Energy East built, an east/west corridor could be assured for fuel stocks. The constant obstructionists who stand in the way, making excuses instead of solutions. Many oblivious to the entire point of this energy corridor and why it was important.
      Zoom forward 15 years and the naysayers are finding out and suddenly they are all pro-oil. Even some dick of "Chief" of some FN group suddenly has an about face and wants Northern Gateway to go ahead. His excuse rather ludicrous, he believes Trump would build THAT anyway...as though Trump has any input on it. He doesn't...never did...but it is a weird thing for the Chief to say. I'd have pushed him on that pathetic explanation and have him admit he was completely wrong and it has nothing to do with Trump at all and that he is just a hypocrite suddenly seeing the writing on the wall when the shit hit the fan. The rest of the LPC ilk back peddling on carbon tax now.
      The damage they did may never be reparable...

I am betting that nobody dared point out that the oil going in produced that fuel coming out. But I guess one cannot account for that kind of stupid taking over government.
      Upping border security would be a lot cheaper.
      Meanwhile, a US border agent was killed by an illegal who entered Canada and returned back to the US, armed...most details are not clear beyond the fact that he was an illegal in BOTH countries, was armed and willing to murder.

    Brian is right. I have lived in Alberta. When Trudeau's dad messed up in the 80's he did the same when he got in with the oil. It just drove knife further into the back of Albertans. Does he still not get it. Only one seat in Alberta federals is not Conservative. What does that tell you about how Alberta feels about Trudeau. Plus when Canadians understand that Canada is only the size of California. Which means an economy is that small. Pres.Trump knows that whatever Canada does will not impact their economy that much. In fact that money they may spend will end up back in the country. Likely spent on their products further boosting their economy. If they think it will hurt the U.S. They know little about the American economy. Canada will suffer in many areas. Which will make it difficult for Canada to survive if it thinks it will make Americans pull back. Canada's ability to produce is so small that it does need to be concerned about becoming a third-world nation. This is the message Pres. Trump was sending Trudeau about being a governor. Trudeau is making such a mess of our country. The other thought is he may turn to Mexico to buy more. Not many talking about this area. Remember buying Mexico is much cheaper than Canada. Even a lot of the auto industry is already there now.

    Tariffs work which is why almost all countries on earth have tariffs &or import tax/s of some sort (& I say almost cos I might have missed a few doing my homework). Not only does it enrich the country's coffers, it also protects domestic industry. Since Trump is a 'tariff believer' as you say, best tactic is negotiation. The US economy is 10x Canada's so we know how the tariff war will go. If blame is to be assigned, try our own Canada interprovincial trade barriers. Try our own interprovincial rejection of pipelines to both coasts. Try looking at Ottawa that's been demonizing AB dirty oil & trying to kill it thru regs

And while maybe the USA only wants their oil and gas, that is one better than Toronto, Vancouver, Quebec, and the Martimes who not only want their oil and gas, but also equalization payments.

    We in Canada would have a better chance invading the USA with our military than we would have in a trade war. It is laughable. What we should be doing is talking to the angry man, getting him to sit down and tell us what the problem is in full detail, getting agreement on what we must do and he will settle down -- in other words Canada needs to do what it does best, engage in diplomacy. And we have huge experience in diplomacy with nations more powerful than our own.
    That we are even threatening a trade war proves our country is a clown show. We need to battle the USA on our terms -- i.e. diplomacy. And we need to do it now, rather than in September 2025 when parliament returns after the next general election.

    We need to remember that the people of Alberta and Saskatchewan are catching on. They realize that the rest of Canada only wants them for their oil, gas and equalization payments, and that when Ontarioans and Quebecois say "the Americans only want you for your oil and gas" that that is a much better deal because they'd save money with no equalization payments. I mean, heck, last week I was looking at statistics for Canada by province and they grouped wealthy Saskatchewan in with impoverished have-not Manitoba -- it is typical -- Eastern Canadians in Toronto, Quebec, and also in BC have no idea, no consideration at all, for the people and the rights of people of AB and SK.
    The only thing AB and SK have in common with MB is they entered Confederation under the same second-class conditions, as second-class provinces.

      I am in Quebec. The thing is that the separatism of this party is like carbon tax for liberals. In 2022 the same party insisted on making Quebec the greenest place in the world. The wind blows differently now and they sing another song. The amount of people who ask for money in the streets, in metro, in groceries is insane in Montreal. It has been different even two years ago. But in 2022 there were provincial elections. Five parties. They all were concerned about climate, about healthcare, about anything. Nobody was concerned about economics. “The budget will balance itself”, this is a pandemic in our politics. All my colleagues vote conservatives

We could fix our trade imbalance by exporting our lumber to Asia instead, and by exporting our oil & gas to Europe (like the Europeans begged us to do at the start of Russo-Ukrainian War II)? Let us get building those pipelines that the Liberal Party of Canada prevented happening. The LPC made a huge mistake leaving us with little pipeline capacity except for exporting to the USA.

    Canadians should have seen this coming. Maybe not with the US, but Trudeau has been an international irritant. Teen brain that he is, I remember him insulting Trump behind his back at an international conference. Trump has been through the wringer since 2016, but things have changed a little since then and Trump isn't the type to forget. Canadians better understand this and get off the strike back mentality. Trudeau is riding high on this right now which might be why his polls seem to be improving. However, it is the road to ruin in the long run. Canada cannot afford to mix it up with the US. We'll just be swamped and maybe end up as the 51st state after all. Alberta just might lead the way too.

      Canada does refine many of your products. The refiners are Canadian owned and in the US. This is an extremely complex intertwined business. There are many tariffs that are not reflected in the price of a barrel of oil. Pipeline economics are about construction, operation, maintenance, and end of life abandonment. Most of the funding is collected as separate fees during operation. Those all become due by international agreements if operations cease. Being prorated the funds don’t exist yet. So any funding for new construction won’t exist either. It will be locked up in the courts as is the funding for Keystone right now. I believe it’s about 58 billion.
