  • What is The "Cost" of Justice in India? | Vantage with Palki Sharma
The Supreme Court of India granted interim protection to activist Teesta Setalvad on Saturday despite being on a holiday. Politicians of all parties and celebrities have also received such "fast track" assistance. Is influence and expensive lawyers the key to expedited justice? Not just supreme court. Lower courts also have summer vacation. The reason given is that they need to study judgements given by other courts in recent cases, as they can be precedents. I believe judges are too sheltered to understand the impact delays have on the life of people. Soon we are going to have a parallel justice system run by local muscle men or influential people. In fact it already exists in some places. Our system has failed us.

There was no need for the CJI to bend backwards and constitute a division bench for hearing Teesta Setalvad's application. Supreme court also similarly helped the former PM Manmohan Singh when was impleaded in a criminal trial. An application filed by him in the SC was allowed and stayed. It has not yet seen the light of the day.

The youngest victim was one-year-old. A district court judge sentenced 16 to death and 10 to life imprisonment in 2010 , but ALL were acquitted by the Patna High court in 2013. 16 children slaughtered and not a single person has been convicted even after 25 years . Most Indians have never even heard of the Ranvir Sena & the horrific massacres they committed in the 90s. All are roaming free .

If anyone is related to judicial officers, a high ranking politician, a celebrity in whichever field, a businessman with money, favourite lawyers, leftists who are well known, NGO’s with foreign connections, media houses, people with ‘ connections’, certain sections of minorities etc will get immediate hearing during holidays/ court vacations, any time of day and night, weekend , during weather/ security emergencies,
The courts are for certain people and not for plebs, who as per certain religion will have 7 births and deaths- they may hope to get justice from courts before the last cycle of death if they are lucky
It is a fallacy to think that British rule ended in India. They have left their representatives in the form of judges to rule India without being elected
Until the plebs won’t revolt and bring in a revolution, the judiciary will rule and ruin the country without being elected

What good is a higher number of judges if all they do is grant adjournments repeatedly? Simple property disputes, agreement disputes drag on for two decades. The culture needs to change, technology needs to be adopted, and a system to focus on clearing the cases should be established.

Its easy to critize those who are governing the country. But to release those in jail could endanger those to the public.

she isn't saying release the criminals but the fact of the matter is lot of people are waiting in jails simply waiting for their next hearing, they aren't convicted yet !
just look at the civil matter cases like land and property dispute, those common people waiting for years sometimes results come after they are dead!! and our biased judges have time even on weekends for tista but not even a second for common man

Those in jail are most of them under trial and 70% of them even if convicted accordingly then they have been already completed their jail term and has to released.
So what would be your saying in this new founding? .. still you would say it will be endanger to the public?

Besides most of us have become very bitter to tainted news which does not project complete story and does not allow the people/ the audience to form their own opinion.
Thus most news placed before the public are structured in a way so that it only and only conveys the message who designs the news. This is unfortunate and alarming 🙏

The top judges of India are decidedly corrupt or how one case gets expedited and the other lingers on for years. The government taking the congnizance of recent decisions of SC headed by the present CJI should hold high level inquiry into financial dealings of the judges afterall the judges draw salary from government coffers which are filled by money we pay in services/taxes.
