The reason why the BMW M3 E46 GTR is on NFS Heat and NFS Unbound is primarly meant as a cameo, an easter egg and a reference to the past.
Cameos, easter eggs and references are intentionally added by the devs.
In reality, the BMW M3 E46 GTR which was totaled by Cross is still in Palmont City.
Only the scenario writers of NFS Carbon knows what really happened after the accident with the metal pipes in the intro of NFS Carbon.
Also, Cross which is now a bounty hunter had a deal with Nikki which obliges her to pay the player's bounty. Thereafter, Cross sets the player free and drives off. It was his last appearance, then we don't know his fate.
Afterwards, Nikki joins your crew and betrays Darius too since Darius also betrayed you and Nikki in the past. You flee Palmonty City and go to Rockport by his fault.
In fact, at the ending of NFS Carbon, the protagonist uses the Audi Le Mans Quattro of Darius as a replacement since his BMW M3 E46 GTR was totaled by Cross.
Maybe he kept the car in order to fix it by himself + with the help of his crew or he didn't bother to do that since he has a new car replacement.
Even if his bounty is cleared, his BMW M3 E46 GTR is maybe still researched by the cops.Which is also another reason he doesn't use the car anyway.
However, the delivery mission of the BMW M3 E46 GTR didn't talk about Razor but the protagonist of NFS MW 2005 and NFS Carbon which is yourself.
- Here's an explanation
The delivery mission about the BMW M3 E46 GTR is a reference to the Player from NFS MW and NFS Carbon, not Razor.
When Yaz talks about ""Some guy was released from jail and the first thing he wanted was his car", she talks about the Player since Razor wasn't in jail at this moment.
The Player from NFS MW/NFS Carbon was in jail because Razor cheated by sabotaging his car with his accomplices in the 1vs1 Duel race. His primary objective from the beginning was to steal the Player's BMW M3 E46 GTR in order to increase his Blacklist rank to the top.
After the Player was released from jail, his objective is to get his car back by beating all the blacklist members and face Razor again.
When the Player won the race against Razor, Mia reveals herself as a cop and arrest Razor.
Then, Mia gives the BMW M3 E46 GTR keys to the Player in order to flee the cops.
Cross arrives at the scene and ask where is the Player which is yourself. And after that, he says his famous line "EVERYONE".
After that and a long police chase, the Player flees Rockport by jumping the old unfinished bridge.
NB: The caller from the delivery mission about the BMW M3 E46 GTR is your past self from NFS MW 2005 and NFS Carbon since your NFS Unbound said "I got a weird sense i've done this in a past life or something...”.
Also, the Blacklist is not a person but a group of 15 people which were all busted by the Rockport cops except you.
Until proven otherwise, all the Blacklist members are still in jail and no one knows what happened to them.
Another explanation why the BMW M3 E46 GTR is also in NFS Heat and NFS Unbound is because it's a replica since car brands in the NFS Universe have an unlimited budget.
That means they can make many copies of their own cars and that explains why the BMW M3 E46 GTR appeared on NFS Unbound and NFS Heat despite being totaled by Cross in NFS Carbon.
In fact, the cars included in NFS games are 3D models based on their irl counterparts in the first place.
Which means that multiple car copies are generated within the game itself. Sometimes, A.I opponents drive the same cars but customized to their taste or their crew colors.
As an example, the BMW M3 E46 GTR has only 10 copies built in real life.
6 road legal BMW M3 E46 GTR and 4 racecar versions were built in the special vehicles department of BMW's Regensburg Plant.
- 4 were racecars (2 for BMW Motorsport or Team Schnitzer, 2 for BMW Prototype Technology Group)
- 3 were sold to the public
- 3 are development prototypes
- 1 of 4 racecars is at the BMW museum
Each copies costs €250000.
Moreover, the NFS Universe has many copies of the car with a cost that varies between $200000 and $300000 which isn't too far away from his real MSRP.
But since the car in real life is a rarity, his value has skyrocketed by x3 or more.
The same proof can apply to any cars which aren't produced anymore or with rare copies built in real life since racing videogames are fantasy and fictional.

The grip racing and actual racing mechanics have been the best they've been in years IMO. Sadly, drifting feels like shit, cops have been nerfed to oblivion, and the content side hardly seems like that much of an increase from Heat.

I’m going just going to say that Criterion broke the lore with the M3 GTR on such a level it deserves 200,000 sins especially since in my playthrough two of the same car exist since the body kit and livery exist so now the M3 has a doppelgänger that or the one from carbon was so popular that everyone has it now so for Clarence to want the car that wasn’t even his to begin with seems unnecessary since anyone can afford it and have the livery applied. Why go though the trouble? Not only that but I had Rachel’s car and I based my character specifically around her as Rachel’s daughter who was adopted by Rydell so getting the 350 Z from him makes more sense. We’ll just say Rachel’s daughter stole the M3 in Lakeshore. If 23 years have passed since MW and Carbon. It would make sense for me to be 22 approaching 23 as her daughter if I was born right after the events of Underground 2. We can verify the appearance of my character and the fact that Rydell eventually got the 350Z and kept it for 15 years in his garage along with his car that got stolen by Yaz. Somehow the Z didn’t get stolen by Alec. This it becomes my main car tying my story together. But stealing the M3 becomes a mystery since I never met Razor. This is where I get lost because underground and most wanted aren’t connected and even if they were there’s no way that the M3 driver and Rachel had a kid and that I’m their biological kid and was placed in foster care to disguise the truth right? That would make the series darker if we gave our dad’s rival his car and didn’t know it. This is only canon to my game though since I still have the M3 but it would be cool if Need for speed did finally tie those games together and put them in the next game where we have a customizable character and we find out we were the kid of Rachel and the player from Most Wanted. It would be a great plot twist.

I rate this game a 6/10. why? I absolutely hate how the use foul language in this game, especially Payback and Heat. its not original. For example: In the BlackBox Era, Every game except The Run, has no strong language.
Im so happy I did NOT buy this game. Sorry not sorry. My FIRST NFS game was NFS 2 my mom rented for me from blockbuster back in the 90s. NFS underground 1 & 2 throughout my middle school into high school years. After NFSU2, the NFS franchise IMO went downhill. Just saying but this is just MY opinion.

This game is complete trash. What a waste of 70 bucks. NFS Heat is way better. When I heard Criterion was teaming up with EA again, I thought NFS meets Burnout. Boy I was wrong and so sad.
