    Glad you like it Ryan! I'm waiting for my local shop to get the a7Siii and a9ii in stock so I can verify that the dial diameter is exactly the same as the a7Riv that I based the design on.

      Works great for the R III I have it on, which basically covers the a9 and a7 III too. And with the R IV being tested that surely confirms the a9 II and a7S III although I understand for peace of mind to test them out truly.

    Clever product, Ryan - 5yr stress reliever, too😁. How about this DIY modification? Attach a strip of labeling to the outer surface - label w/mode letters and add alignment marking (e.g., small vertical line) on camera body. Offset the mode letters on the tape so they align properly with the line to show mode. Use “white lettering” on clear tape. Brother PTouch is one brand. Mode can be shown in cam display, of course, but if you prefer an image only display, you would be able to see the mode by looking at the tape when holding cam to your eye. Hope that makes sense. At any rate, kudos to knob cap maker for ingenuity.

    Great! Thank you!
    My issue with the camera is using the back button focus af-on button is too small and nearly flush with the camera body! Any solution?

      Upgrade to any of the Sony cameras with the 4th generation body style (A1, A9II, A7RIV, A7IV).

    Nothing wrong with a locking mode dial as long as its not always on. My olympus can be locked or unlocked... Bizarre sony went with the always locked style...

      Sony still has work to do with their lock/unlock button featured on the newer camera’s exposure compensation dial. I’ve run into issues with it on the a7S III and a7R IV. It would be bad if they brought that same design to the mode dial and have that one get stuck.

    With my Canon cameras, I would inadvertently turn the mode dial without realizing it, if they didn't have the locking button. Any kind of button or switch is so easily turned or switched accidentally, if it doesn't have a lock on it. So I am wondering, when shooting wildlife, when cameras are always handled with such haste and carelessness in the heat of the moment, and hastily stuffed in bags and packs, and hastily pulled back out of bags and packs, without looking to see what part of the camera one is grabbing and what part of the camera one's fingers are touching, how do you manage not to turn the mode dial by mistake if it doesn't lock?

    • @RyanMenseWildlife
      @RyanMenseWildlife  3 года назад +1

      You're making it sound like one of those informercials with actors fumbling with simple things in a super exaggerated manner, haha. The location is pretty good on Sony to not knock it. With this piece added, I can say the tension is also nice where it's not difficult to adjust with one finger but has been strong enough to not bump out of place. If they were going to ship a new camera without the lock I would say they could bump up the tension slightly and it still wouldn't be hard to use.

      @@RyanMenseWildlife It amazes me how many shots I screw up or miss because buttons, dials, or switches get changed without me being aware of it. Even the switches on the lenses that are recessed to prevent accidental changes still get jostled and switched to the wrong setting all the time. I'm hopeless without locks on everything. Wish they had locks on the switches on Canon L lenses ..... the IS on/off, the AF on/off, the focus limiter, etc.

      @@nguquyen True, the location of that one allows for more accidental bumps.

  • @garfieldirwin

    Funny, but I don't mind the locking mechanism...but then I seldom change modes from video.

    • @RyanMenseWildlife
      @RyanMenseWildlife  3 года назад +1

      Even then I like using 1/2/3 on the dial for different video frame rates so I don’t have to menu dive. But yeah, it’s probably just a special kind of person that gets bothered by this 🤗

      @@RyanMenseWildlife Curious Ryan...why not just record everything @120fps? That gives you all the options including the ability to ramp.

    • @RyanMenseWildlife
      @RyanMenseWildlife  3 года назад

      That doesn’t look very good to my eye. The shutter speed would be 1/250+ and playing that back in normal speed with the dropped frames is just too crisp and jittery looking.

      @@RyanMenseWildlife True. I guess it depends on how much you want to shoot slow mo -- for me while birding, it's most of the time.

    Finally! Not ordered.
    Black option, shipping and whatever the other fees are make it stupidly expensive.
