@@Johnbuildsiconic Thanks, and I didn't mean any offense ... I also appreciate all the work you put in this and all the really insane eye for detail. It's just that it's sooo relaxing to see this process, that's all. Hats off to you, sir!
No offence taken my friend . I edited this video in a way that it could be watched by anybody, not just model builders, and at nearly 100k views I think it worked
Hello from Canada. Just found your channel and had to comment. I have an Airfix E Boat and the Revel E boat both still boxed up, plus 3 1:72 scale MTB's (Vosper, still in boxes.). I guess I'm one of those modelers who buy and "never get around to it" types. I'm certain I'll be envious of your build once I finish your video. Cheers!!
Just found your channel today - popped up because I’ve been watching US PT boat builds & am just wrapping up my own PT109. Darn it man!! Now you’ve made me do 3 things: 1) like the vid & your work, 2) subscribe C) build my own version of this model using your video as a good reference. Thank you!
i built the exact same boat 20 years ago. its ridiculous how much i rememberabout that particular built. like that the bow deck did not fit that well and that the whole hull was just a little bent so it was rather difficult to put that together. i think this was the last thing i built back then i painted it all as good as i was able to and with just a brush and some color i was rather limited. however back then i was really proud of it for a long time. it actually did swim too without any extra weight. it did look very much like yours except of all the extra fine detail. again as good as a 13yo could do i guess
Nice job, very well put together and with masses of detail. But let down by one piece of detail that is missing. There is a glaring white blank area on the ensign where one would expect to see a swastiika! Is this some sort of bowdlerisation by Revell?
Hi lars, it’s funny but I only noticed that I had glued the seats on backwards when I was editing this video, but all replaced and facing the right way now
Did I miss the top of the deck painting - quite dark compared to the Revell 057 on the side of the hull? Maybe the same 77 Dust grey on the bottom of the hull? Fabulous job btw - can only dream of your skill level.Thanks.
Super job, John !! I checked out your site and wished that you did armor and aircraft. Not much of a boat builder, but I now have this kit in my Amazon cart and will be building this one soon. Great detail and I am buying the crew for this Schnellboot ! thanks again.... 😊

Thank you Carl for taking the time, and writing this comment, at the start of my RUclips channel, when it’s so hard to get any views on my videos. Comments like this really helped to keep me going
Superb job, on a strangely attractive vessel. I was slightly surprised that you didn't paint more of the small components before assembly but, after watching your skill with the paints, it makes perfect sense. The white centres to the flags: is that a condition of sale, a RUclips thing, or a personal preference? Whatever the reason, it doesn't detract from anything. The splashes of red on the flags and lifebelts help to break up all the shades of grey too. If you do decide to ell this one, I hope the elliong price reflectys the work and skill that went into this build. Cheers for now, Dougie.
Thank you Dougie. That’s how modern kits supply the flag, and I wouldn’t be able the show the emblem in the centre in this video, good chance RUclips would take it down, in this modern world we live
@@Johnbuildsiconic Hmmm, strange way to deal with the "situation". I've heard that the symbol causes problems but this is the first time I've actually seen the consequences. I feel like that's maybe not the best way to deal with it. Nobody would want it plastered all over our screens but by censoring it, it's kinda like denying the attrocities of two world wars actually happened. We can't just erase something from history, because we don't like it. Leaving blank spaces just draws attention to it anyway. I can't think of a situation when I'll ever need to make a decision about it myelf; maybe best to keep it that way. Certainly don't want to get political on YT; there's plenty doing that without any help from me.😁
@@2H80vids This is a Revell Germany version of the kit, is it not? Because there are rules about printing swastikas - or not printing them - in Europe. Airplane kits come with emblems that "suggest" swastikas or none at all, leaving tail flashes up to the builder. If one wanted to be historically accurate, there are aftermarket decals that would finish the flag. Frankly, I think it's a bit "whitewashing" to admire the boat and fine build job and ignore the history behind it.
@@carmium Yeah, bit of a strange one. If someone is going to find the flag too offensive to look at, it's rather unlikely they'd be in the situation of viewing the boat. Presumably, anyone building the kit will know enough about it's history to realise what it stands for, with or without the flags. Are the flags really more offensive than the guns, or the ordnance carried aboard these vessels? If you're going to build this sort of kit, surely it's better if it looks historically accurate? It would make more sense, to me anyway, to supply accurate flags 𝒂𝒏𝒅 these p.c. ones, leaving the choice up to the builder. Censoring history won't change it, might cloud it though.
