    What did you end up actually doing with the axles? Trying to get a e351 mounted to a 3sgte in an 87 camry. I think that the same axle solution you use for that sw20 will be the same for my Camry. The Camry hubs are the same as the na sw20 hubs, and I'm sure I would just use the e153 axle carrier with whatever axle I end up using. I was thinking of just trying axles from a 2002 Camry and possibly cutting it to size and sleeving if necessary, but if you're able to get the sw20 without cutting and welding axles, then I may try that route instead

    You should invest in some thread in “inside transfer punches” they basically look like set screws with a center punch on them. Great for getting these hole pitches.

      I actually have several different sizes if these but this was just two bolt holes, it's easier to get the calipers out for this

    I'd like to engine swap my front wheel drive starlet. I do gravel hill climbs and rallysprints. Is there a factory option for lsd or an aftermarket one?

    I wonder if the manual transmission mount on the scion XB bracket could work? I think those are different. I do know those e351 have the holes in the case in a different spot like you were saying, the XRS Corolla has that too from the facelift

      It's entirely possible that there is a mount out there that would work. In fact, toyota does reuse engine mount locations a fair bit. I did look a bit and personally i did not find anything that looked promising enough to order and try. Also, for what it's worth, the final bracket will sell for a similar price to the OEM toyota ones anyways so there's no significant advantage looking for a stock part that would fit in this particular case.

    Can you comment on the shore hardness of the rubber in the mount?
    And an unrelated question. Can you tune the Toyota Valvematic with the Haltech ecus?

      The mounts are shore A 65-70. Getting close to the stiffness of polyurethane but not as brittle in the cold and doing a much better job of isolating high frequency noise as polyurethane of a similar stiffness.
      I haven't done anything with valvematic but a quick search shows that it uses CAN to control it. This means that haltech technically has the hardware to drive it but haltech would likely need to make a firmware update to support it.

    Any ideas on axles for a 5SGTE with an E350 behind it? I'm deciding on which trans to run, another E52 or upgrade to the E350 and am currently running E153 stubs with VZV25 axles in my SV21 chassis.

      Some research would have to be done. the 3S/5S block has the support bearing about 10mm closer to the accessory drive than the 2GR which i generally work with.

      You are doing an sv21 with a e350? I have a 87 camry with a 3sgte. I just removed the s53 I put in the car when I did the swap (the s51 in it was no good). Now I have a e351 from an 02 Camry that I'm gonna swap in. As far as I can tell it's never been done before. We should maybe link up in a pm and bounce some ideas back and forth?

      @@randywilton3466 I'm planning on dropping an LSD into it first before using Frankenstien's axle bluprints and crossing my fingers. Haltech Elite 1500 this month, IC7 next month, and the LSD and parts the month after is the plan.

      @@BaronVonOttobat hey, so I figured I'd let you know. I have got the axles sorted. Left side, use the 05-01 Rav 4 fwd axle. For the right side, well my solution I don't think is the most elegant, but it works. I will change it up in the future, more on that in a second.
      The right side axle, I took the 01-05 RAV4 2wd axle, used the inner part of the shaft, and put the sv21 outer tulip and shaft. The axle carrier bracket I used is the e153 to 3sgte bracket for the mr2. The holes didn't quite line up, they were about a half a hole or so out. So I just bored the holes out, problem solved
      Now as for that other solution I eluded earlier. I'm am pretty confident that a more bolt on solution is to use the right side e153 inner axle, with the e153 to 3sgte axle carrier, the get the gen 2 Camry V6 outer axles. This as far as I can tell should be a bolt on solution with no modification required. Just a heads up.

    so the question is can i swap a manual e351 2010 toyota camry into the 5S-FE 2.2 engine on its original transmission?

      I have not tested if the E351 and 5S-FE can bolt to each other. Someone would have to test it but i don't have a 5s or 3s engine here to test with.

      @@marwanjleid5712 the 1MZ and the 2AR/2GR which would be in the 2010 camry share the same family of bolt patterns but that only guarantees that the dowel pins will align and is not a guarantee that the parts will bolt together. Likely it will.
      But with that said, the 2AR is capable of much more power than the 1MZ so i'm not sure why you'd trade down and the 2GR is a million times better motor than the 1MZ so that's not a good swap either.

      Actually mine has the 2AZ-FE which camry's in the middle-east came equipped with till 2010
      These engine are known for burning oil and mine isn't an exception
      I have a good history with both of the 5S-FE and the 1MZ-FE which is why i'm a going to swap it.

      @@marwanjleid5712 Ah, if you have a 2AZ in there right now then the 2AR is a straight bolt-in. that may be worth considering and is what i'm using in the car pictured in the video.

    Marc will the S54 shift cables and shift cable bracket work with the E351?

      the E153 and S54 cables are slightly different and the E351 uses the exact same cable as the E153 so technically, no they are not interchangable but from what i understand the S54 cables can be adapted to use with the E153? this is something i haven't dealt with over here so some research on the forums may be necessary. Sorry for lacking a better answer.

    Any news on the high comp 1ar-stroke pistons? Also, I wonder how much of this info and development is useable for an AW11 2ar swap. I remember browsing some forums and seeing an old one you had done, but there isn't that much information that I can find there unfortunately.

      I have mine here, just waiting to test them. The 1AR and 2AR are externally the same size so it won't affect the difficulty of the swap to use one vs the other.

      @@FrankensteinMotorworks I knew that the 1ar and 2ar share the same block dimensions, similar to the 3s and 5s, but what I meant was if there's any tips you had, or any forum write up you made in the past on putting a 2ar into an aw11. I'm, excited for the pistons though, they will be nice to finally have something for all motor applications with the 107mm stroke crank.

      @@inaNis_ that was a build done without documenting it since i was trying to keep it on the down low for a lemons race car. But i would recommend you do it with a narrow e series instead of the eb60 like i used. way less issues that way. all the mounts, wiring and other misc bits were all custom by me. there were no off the shelf parts used.

    Do you know if the side mounts are shared between alltracs and turbo mr2s? Wondering if a turbo 2AR would make more sense than a 4th gen 3sgte if I'm going through all that trouble

      Unfortunately, they are very close but not close enough to be interchangeable.

      The E352F and E359F share all three major mounting locations with the E150F and E154F. I've been slowly piecing together everything to do this swap in mine; it took me a pretty serious brain fart (and Marc's gentle guidance lmao) to find the difference between the MR2 and Celica right side mount. It looks like it'll be reasonably straightforward to fab that one mount but the engine is otherwise bolt in; I don't have mine hanging in the bay yet so I can't say anything about vertical clearance *and* I'm working with a Camry All-Trac so my findings may not be useful to the Celica community in that regard anyways.

    cool build. why hasnt the sw20 community made a close gear ratio gear set like found on the Integra Type R DC2? I plan on swapping this e350 onto my 3sge beams redtop celica SS-III. Or use the same gear ratio like found on the 93 ST185 RC eidition.

    I am sold on the AR swap. Not sure if I should go 1ar or 2ar. If state regs require an all-stock engine, maybe the 1ar is the better choice. If I stick with my stock S54 tranny, will it work with your production e153 L&R side mounts? Will I need new front and rear mounts?
    Enjoying this series. Can't wait for more.

      The S54 uses the same front mount as the E series (wide and narrow) but the left and the rear mount are different. Something to keep in mind is that depending on your luck the 1AR can be significantly more expensive to source for a pretty small power difference.

      The E350/E351 is much better than my S54, and probably the same weight. I found the left and rear mount brackets for sale on your website. I see in this video that, on the passenger side, this setup cannot make use of the 2" difference between the E153 and the E350/E351 (i.e., we don't get an additional 2" of clearance in the passenger side of the 1AR, 2AR, 2GR, 3S, or 5S engines), not to mention that a 2" shift would result in the need to modify axle shafts, etc., but we do get the extra 2" of clearance on the driver's side between the transmission and the unibody, which makes it possible to drop the engine/transmission assembly in from the top. Time to start looking for a 2AR-FXE with an E351....

      @@chainsawcharl1e677 You're correct on all points above, the extra clearance is not being used but it isn't needed and by not using it you can keep all the other parts the same. The 2AR-FXE with an E351 in an MR2 is a great combo. ~240whp on normal gas and i haven't tested it but i bet there's 10-15whp to be gained on E85 with the exact same setup.

    Hey! Love the videos and following the progress. I see that you've done work for the right side motor mount, left side trans mount, and rear trans mount but I think I missed the plan for the front mount - is it reusing the stock mount?

      The front mount for the E350/E351 matches the E153 and the S54 that comes with the car from the factory.

      Unfortunately it isn't a vertical height or a cost constraint. my concrete isn't thick enough for that or a proper lift. Step one would be to get a new pad poured. I was looking into this just before the pandemic hit, it's about $5k just for the pad.

    My butt clenched when you swung that transmission past the rear glass, though i suppose you wouldn't mind going Lexan for your drag rocket anyway...
    I noticed you were lengthening your ratchet strap somehow, how did you do that? I have to loosen my straps off to lengthen them. Is it a different product or some other wizardry?
    Also it was nice to see the casual way you pushed on the new transmission, i guess hanging the block by the water neck is the secret.

      I have a lot of practice installing and removing these transmissions. It is just hanging by a single bolt that goes into the head. on a 2GR i usually put a strap to each head it stabilizes it a bit better. Also, this had no clutch in it so alignment was even easier than normal. But i also do it that way when there is a clutch there.
      As for lengthening a ratchet strap, first make sure you have a lot of wraps on it and i just reach in there and unlock the ratchet and back it off one tooth at a time. if there's enough space in the area you can sometimes do two teeth at a time but each tooth is about 1/2" anyways so it goes pretty quick.

      As for the rear glass, keep in mind this was accelerated footage. I was very careful as it was swinging that way. I may eventually have plastic back there but i would want to save the glass for another car if that happens.

      Absolutely. That's one of the big advantages of this motor. For people looking for more than the 300whp offered by the 2GR-FE it'll be much more cost effective to build a turbo 2AR-FE
