Wikipedia The word calisthenics comes from the ancient Greek words kalos (κάλος), which means "beauty" or "beautiful" (to emphasize the aesthetic pleasure that derives from the perfection of the human body), and sthenos (σθένος), meaning "strength" (great mental strength, courage, strength and determination). It is the art of using one's bodyweight as resistance in order to develop physique.
The best thing about calisthenics I’ve always noticed is people like Chris don’t look insanely strong, but then they do shit like dips with 60+ pounds on them for reps
I've been weightlifting for years and never got the results I was looking for. I started calisthenics thanks to ThenX about 3 months ago and I'm seeing major results. After tweaking my nutrition and following the ThenX workouts I have seen huge increases in strength, balance, and endurance. I just want to say thank you to Chris Heria and the ThenX team! You are an inspiration!
Nateman114 wow you doing weightlifting for years and no results ? you suck as fuck dude ... calisthenics is fucking awesome i do it every fucking day but first i do some weightlifting before that and got results after 6 months... so you really suck if you dont have results after years mate
Just for clarification, I said I didn't get the results I was looking for. That doesn't mean I didn't get results at all. I had huge gains in mass and strength from my former diet/weight training program. However calisthenics training has taken me to an entirely new level. Thanks again Chris for making these amazing workouts and videos for us!
Been working out for about 8 months now. And this video has finally become my workout routine! Thank you Chris for all the motivation you have given me!
@Chris. I've never done calisthenics before because I always found it very intimidating. Even at my fittest ever I was only able to do 20 pull ups in a set. Your really humble, gentle, and encouraging demeanor has inspired me to start. I'm on a 30-day discipline program now. Once I'm done I'll be starting Calisthenics with the help of your videos. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
20 pull-ups are pretty good at least to me I am 13 and can only do 8 but I guess that is better than where I started out before last year 0 pull-ups 0 push-ups basically I was a video game freak that ate terrible now I workout daily and eat extremely healthy I am deciding to try calisthenics because it needs less equipment oh ya now I can do 35 push-ups without slowing down
We gotta start somewhere! I've got no equipement at all so I've started using chairs instead of bars. Coffee table for dips. basic push ups. I'm one week in. I hope after 11 months you're closer than ever to "All This Stuff"!!!
Amazing, guys! i'm 48 years old and super excited about body weight training.. been doing traditional weight training all my life but it got really boring.. body weight training with the technical elements from gymnastics (rings) is so much more fun and challenging. I'm born again, lol
Was getting tired of the gyms closing in NY so I decided to give this workout a try. After 7 weeks of consistent 2 days on 1 day off training with this regimen, I’ve honestly never been leaner in my life. Seriously give it a try and commit to it, you’ll be happy you did.
OFFICIALTHENX plz help me. I've been doing negative pull ups for 2 weeks now but still can't do a normal pull up. Austrians aren't helping me either. thx
I love that feeling when you take the weights off and get back on the bar, just feel so much lighter/easier. Feel like 10x stronger for a minute, Lush!
yep theyre hard as fuck once you are almost dead though its working down the progressions. I now do explosive clapping -> pushups -> variations of pushups -> knee explosive pushups - knee variations of pushups
I really like how you conduct the videos. Most of the time I get the impression the guys doing these videos are bragging and showing off while doing the reps. But you are super nice and the focus is on your guests and the training not on you. That is very professional. Keep up the good work. 👍🏼
One way to tell that a youtuber cares about their subscribers. They encourage you, motivate you and inspire you. I'm going to bite the bullet now, been super lazy for too long after having previous experience and success with weights. They did make one, look up "how to eat to get shredded". It's basically Intermittent Fasting aka "IF", with obvious healthy foods :) But IF is the key.
12.04.2022. I started this workout total 3 set for each, I will do 3-4 times a week. I got inflammation on my gut. Due to digestion issues I have hair loss, acne and anxiety. I know they are all connected to gut. I quit smoking, fapping and alcohol 3 weeks ago. I started supplementig l-glutamin today. I will eat low carb until I heal my gut. I will follow this routine for 4 months. My plan is build muscle and heal my digestion system. Next month I will be here, see you.
Ur the sole reason I started calisthenics..and I follow ur daily workout and check to see different exercise..thanks a lot for this vid Chris...I will come back and tell u my progress cheers man👍👍
This is very inspiring. I'm going to start doing this now. I'm going to take pictures & track my body's progress every two weeks. lol After I can do this routine normally, I'll add weights like Chris. Then after that I'll head over to the Hyperbolic Time Chamber 😂😜💯
Great how you teaches how to start and progressive training! Love your channel and downloaded the app ofcourse. Great respect for your body and your mindset.
I’ve just started this as my regular workout & would love to know other people’s experiences. How many times a week do you do it? How effective has it been for you? What’s your progression etc? Thanks
@@FutureBoy. I only go through it once but do 3 sets of each exercise to failure if that makes sense? Eg 3 x Leg raise to failure with 2 mins rest in between 1 x each of the progressions to failure 3 x Pull Up to failure with 2 mins rest in between 1x each of the progressions to failure Etc etc for all the exercises apart from squats which I just do 1x to failure plus progressions I do it 3 times a week. Even in the few weeks I’ve been doing it I’ve seen progression in strength & muscle.
Ikr i remember when i couldnt 1 pushup now im doing like 70 each workout with many variations/progression (diamond, elevated etc...) Along with many other exercises on my push day like dips, presses, and flys
He's always putting his level at the level of the other colleague. This is very humble and nice of him. Just to be show that every that that the other do is useful enough for Chris to be used.
ASK THENX I've been boxing for about 6 months now and I was wondering if you have any great calisthenic exercises that will help with shoulder endurance?
The Notorious push-ups, speed bag, shrugs, dips, pull ups and I think that's about it. Im a boxer too😁 and make sure you really stretch that arm out when on the punching bag to really feel the burn
As a PT, I found this EXTREMELY interesting as a way of training calisthenics. The whole point about doing the exercises followed by their "light" versions (with no or little rest time in between), reaching failure in each one of them, is to get tones of time under tension, so the process becomes faster and more efficient, right? Having said that, I'd love to know your opinion about this workout structure: Back, Biceps: -Free Pull-Ups x Failure -Band-Assisted Pull-Ups x Failure (finish with static hold + 1-2 negatives) -Australian Pull-Ups (finish with static hold + 1-2 negatives) Chest, Triceps: -Push-Ups (I do Diamonds) x Failure -Knee Pushups x Failure Triceps-Oriented -Free Dips x Failure (finish with 1-2 negatives) -Band-Assisted Dips x Failure (finish with 1-2 negatives) -Bench Dips x Failure Legs -Assisted Pistol Squats x Failure with each leg -Explosive Squats x Failure -Regular Squat x Failure I know it's basically the same routine as the video's, but with some slight changes, such as leaving ABS for when the circuit rounds are done or the use of resistance bands. I would really appreciate if you guys give me your opinion about this programme. If only Chris could read this, as well! Do you think doing this circuit 2 or 3 times (resting between circuit rounds and exercise categories) would be nice? I'm relativity new to calisthenics and I'm trying to find an efficient, fun and amazing workout to progress in this beautiful art of fitness. My apologies on the long post, I just didn't want to leave anything behind. Regards.
4:18 that casual expression pulling up a shit ton of weights all over his body. GOD. When I reach this point is when Ima know I made it. You're a big inspiration, Chris. Cheers.
Nice to see you teaching your workout routine. I just started getting back into weight lifting after a few years not but I want to do more full body/compound/functional training versus just plain lifting, which was what I was doing before. I didn't that these types of workouts were called calisthenics. Thanks for sharing!
I'm competing in my first calisthenics comp in just under 2 months lol. I can do: 11 pull ups 16 parallel bar dips 15sec Lsit 35 push ups Edit: been training now can do 16 pull ups and 3 strict muscle ups, also 47sec handstand hold comp is tomorrow
@@norman9012 add more low rep weighted pullups. Your focus should be building your actual pull strength... once you get to higher reps of pullups thats when it will become muscular endurance
@@mzsym5075 I do both. If it’s a circuit i might do sow thing like 4 sets 15 push ups 10 pull ups 15sec Lsit 10 ring dip Rest 3min between sets Or I might do an EMOM style Max pull ups EMOM for 5min 30% of max Another one I do 50% of max reps of whatever exercise Rest 2min Repeat until failure

I will follow this routine for 4 months. My plan is build muscle and heal my digestion system. Next month I will be here, see you.
Kevin is a beast for sticking through the entire thing
How to start calisthenics but everytime he says “you ready?” it gets faster
Ur the sole reason I started calisthenics..and I follow ur daily workout and check to see different exercise..thanks a lot for this vid Chris...I will come back and tell u my progress cheers man👍👍
This is very inspiring. I'm going to start doing this now. I'm going to take pictures & track my body's progress every two weeks.
lol After I can do this routine normally, I'll add weights like Chris. Then after that I'll head over to the Hyperbolic Time Chamber 😂😜💯
While watching this video I tried to do a pistol squat and I swear I just fell to the floor, you both make it look so easy
It's about glute activation, not so much leg strength
Great how you teaches how to start and progressive training! Love your channel and downloaded the app ofcourse. Great respect for your body and your mindset.
Shout out to Kevin for killing it. I can feel him on the lack of flexibility but we just have to keep it pushing! 🤙🏼
I’ve just started this as my regular workout & would love to know other people’s experiences. How many times a week do you do it? How effective has it been for you? What’s your progression etc? Thanks
Do you so this once as the whole workout, or go through the whole thing again as multiple sets?
@@FutureBoy. I only go through it once but do 3 sets of each exercise to failure if that makes sense?
Eg
3 x Leg raise to failure with 2 mins rest in between
1 x each of the progressions to failure
3 x Pull Up to failure with 2 mins rest in between
1x each of the progressions to failure
Etc etc for all the exercises apart from squats which I just do 1x to failure plus progressions
I do it 3 times a week. Even in the few weeks I’ve been doing it I’ve seen progression in strength & muscle.
i came from weightlifting group, and i must say i am realy amazed, what you guys can do.
On my 2nd day of calisthenics already addicted to bettering myself each rep
Update please, did you stick with it?
Ikr i remember when i couldnt 1 pushup now im doing like 70 each workout with many variations/progression (diamond, elevated etc...) Along with many other exercises on my push day like dips, presses, and flys
Should make a video that has the stretches, flexablitly side of calist
He's always putting his level at the level of the other colleague. This is very humble and nice of him. Just to be show that every that that the other do is useful enough for Chris to be used.
ASK THENX
I've been boxing for about 6 months now and I was wondering if you have any great calisthenic exercises that will help with shoulder endurance?
The Notorious push-ups, speed bag, shrugs, dips, pull ups and I think that's about it. Im a boxer too😁 and make sure you really stretch that arm out when on the punching bag to really feel the burn
The Notorious weighted shadow boxing
The Notorious I workout with 1-5kg dumbels when skipping or shadow boxing... but you don't really need anything else than a sandbag
Ashyy yeah that's very good
The Notorious getting ready for Floyd
Should i do this whole workout only one time or should i do it 3 times in a row?
As a PT, I found this EXTREMELY interesting as a way of training calisthenics. The whole point about doing the exercises followed by their "light" versions (with no or little rest time in between), reaching failure in each one of them, is to get tones of time under tension, so the process becomes faster and more efficient, right? Having said that, I'd love to know your opinion about this workout structure:
Back, Biceps:
-Free Pull-Ups x Failure
-Band-Assisted Pull-Ups x Failure (finish with static hold + 1-2 negatives)
-Australian Pull-Ups (finish with static hold + 1-2 negatives)
Chest, Triceps:
-Push-Ups (I do Diamonds) x Failure
-Knee Pushups x Failure
Triceps-Oriented
-Free Dips x Failure (finish with 1-2 negatives)
-Band-Assisted Dips x Failure (finish with 1-2 negatives)
-Bench Dips x Failure
Legs
-Assisted Pistol Squats x Failure with each leg
-Explosive Squats x Failure
-Regular Squat x Failure
I know it's basically the same routine as the video's, but with some slight changes, such as leaving ABS for when the circuit rounds are done or the use of resistance bands.
Regards.
So how many sets have you done? I find it hard doing multiple rounds, since every exercise is until failure
Chris: wears weight vest
Aso chris: im gonna add a weight belt just to show my extreme strength :)
Kevin is me right now, Chris is me from the future :D
4:18 that casual expression pulling up a shit ton of weights all over his body. GOD. When I reach this point is when Ima know I made it. You're a big inspiration, Chris. Cheers.
who made the beats?? doope
Chris made them
BlueAvalanche Fr? Damn
BlueAvalanche he didn’t make them rofl
@@7thmusic226 he did
Kevin that absolute unit!
Sick video, feels nice watching beginners like myself so i get some comfort. Cheers!
4:18 *BEAST!*
He is lucky training with master Chris !!
Just tried this, at home, using just two chairs. No excuses here. And man, it’s hard work!
Kevin is my spirit animal.
Is it normal to have shoulder pains when doing negative dips?
Nice to see you teaching your workout routine. I just started getting back into weight lifting after a few years not but I want to do more full body/compound/functional training versus just plain lifting, which was what I was doing before. I didn't that these types of workouts were called calisthenics. Thanks for sharing!
I'm competing in my first calisthenics comp in just under 2 months lol.
I can do:
11 pull ups
16 parallel bar dips
15sec Lsit
35 push ups
Edit: been training now can do 16 pull ups and 3 strict muscle ups, also 47sec handstand hold comp is tomorrow
I can do 50 push ups but like 5 pull ups, why
@@norman9012 my guess is your chest is stronger than your back
@@norman9012 add more low rep weighted pullups. Your focus should be building your actual pull strength... once you get to higher reps of pullups thats when it will become muscular endurance
@@camerongray7767 hey man do you do the workout as a circuit or as single sets? And how many rounds do you do??
@@mzsym5075
I do both.
If it’s a circuit i might do sow thing like
4 sets
15 push ups
10 pull ups
15sec Lsit
10 ring dip
Rest 3min between sets
Or I might do an EMOM style
Max pull ups
EMOM for 5min
30% of max
Another one I do
50% of max reps of whatever exercise
Rest 2min
Repeat until failure
