John Chapman died bleeding, body broken, probably cold, and alone on a mountain during an operation that was a crap show from the beginning, but he died fighting and calling in air strikes like the hero he was. He didn't have to die a hero, though, and we never should've been over there in a useless war.
Something that’s always stuck with me about Chapman’s story; his last known words were “thank you” as he was talking on a sat phone. If I recall correctly he risked his life to take up a position that would allow him to acquire a signal to call in air support. The guy was a superhero.
He is also the first ever ENLISTED exemplar for a USAFA class. The class of 26 fought to get him nominated and succeed. My son, being the son of an enlisted Marine, was so proud to tell me about it. And yes I still give him crap about going to be an Air Force Officer.

coolest part of my AF career was being involved in the Chapman memorial at the CCS. Highly recommend everyone read Alone at Dawn, the book that breaks down what really happened.
I heard there is a lot of Controversy about Roberts Ridge, but those Things are always to be seen in a Historical Context, what People were like, the Moment itself etc. This is also true for a lot of Allied and Axis WW2 Veterans and how they received their Medal of Honour / Knights Cross. And in Fact this is true throughout History, no matter the Nation and Award. War is always grey, and rarely black/white, at least in Combat. Lots of Factors play into everything. Being German and working as Historian for the IFZ in Munich since i left Military Service with the 23rd Gebirgsjägerbrigade back in 2012, i always notice that a lot of "Heroic Actions" that lead to Awards, whether by the Axis, the Western Allied or Eastern Allied Forces, nowadays a lot of these Actions would be scrutinized like Hell, and one Thing we immediately were taught as upcoming Historians was to never judge History by todays Standards, nor by our rather "safe" Upbringing. That out of the Way, it's insanely awesome that there is Footage of this MOH Recipient, even if it happened rather recently! Prost & Cheers from Berchtesgaden in the Bavarian Alps
During an enemy counterattack, Chapman's rifle was later picked up and used by a ranger M249 SAW gunner Specialist Polson as his SAW malfunctioned every couple of rounds.

John Chapman died bleeding, body broken, probably cold, and alone on a mountain during an operation that was a crap show from the beginning, but he died fighting and calling in air strikes like the hero he was. He didn't have to die a hero, though, and we never should've been over there in a useless war.
Could not agree more. Well said.
1:28 I took this personally as I am currently seated on the throne
Same here brother 😂
Hope none of it hit the fan...
Same. Morning post coffee thrown time.
Same here Brother!
Shit, I'm dead 💀. Last time, I poop without my plates
When you said “RUclips unsubscribed me from Administrative Results” I looked, and sure enough.
Something that’s always stuck with me about Chapman’s story; his last known words were “thank you” as he was talking on a sat phone. If I recall correctly he risked his life to take up a position that would allow him to acquire a signal to call in air support. The guy was a superhero.
Wrong story. You're thinking of Michael Murphy
@@mid-misage3416 Geez, my bad. Thanks for the correction.
No that was the OTHER Seal fuck up.
@@PavewayJDAM Do you know how little that narrows it down!?
He is also the first ever ENLISTED exemplar for a USAFA class. The class of 26 fought to get him nominated and succeed. My son, being the son of an enlisted Marine, was so proud to tell me about it. And yes I still give him crap about going to be an Air Force Officer.
Chapman Rifle was mentioned and now I am here
🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️ I have been summoned
Admin, you’re a good actor. Watching you move like Chapman did in the ISR video and seeing it at ground level with sound made me tear up. Thank you for honoring him so sincerely.
Alone At Dawn is an amazing book written about MoH recipient John Chapman, Air Force Combat Controllers, and Operation Anaconda.
Awesome rifle.
RIP Paul Harrell.
MOH Museum has basically CANCELLED the John Chapman exhibit…..
Additional historical context, Delta was using commercial optics as well. That’s where the Military’s first red dots came from WAY back.
Awesome gun and a great story. Very cool otter. Thanks for the shout out! Shoot and enjoy that gun often and thanks for being 2AF!
Missed opportunity to use the MoH soundtrack here, but the BO2 music is still cool
Hans zimmer heart of darkness would have gone hard
Joel is such an awesome guy. By the power in invested in myself I declare him king of the clone!!
You know you’re a legend when Otter Weapon Worx clones your set up
Thanks man, high praise! Appreciate my guy
@@Otterweaponworx haha I know I meant like you know someone did something legendary when they earn a Otter Weapon Worx clone
Hearing the Haji voices while he's shooting at 1:07 is an amusing touch. 😄
Thank you for making a video on Chapman's rifle. USAFA Class of 2026 made him our class exemplar and I was hoping that you'd do a video on his rifle ever since
The Battle of Roberts Ridge was a testament to the resilience and dedication of our troops, and seeing this piece of history brought to life is truly inspiring.
Looking at cloned guns could be an interesting and unique direction for channel. It's gotta be hard to keep coming up with topics and I've noticed a lot of gun tubers doing same or very similar topics as one another
Sweet video, thanks for shedding some light on this hero’s story.
Yoooooooo @ 1:54 that’s a bad ass rainbow shot 😮😮😮😮😮
At 1 minute and 33 seconds in this video I actually am sitting on the toilet and I just got done with my coffee
A legend for the history books.
Great vid about one of our Airman... As an USAF vet I really do appreciate the coverage about his weapon. Thank you.
Another reason why the AR platform is the most based
I hate how H&K is selling our AR Platform to other countries.
0:48 Yeah, theres some heaviness..in me dying at laughter right here 😂
0:49 Jesus Christ that Jason Bourne
1:19
😆
As a Chapman, I approve of this video. ...and I'm only 30 seconds in. I'm honored that we have the same last name. I can only hope to have a fraction of the bravery of that man. RIP. Thanks for posting this.
(Side note, Johnny Appleseed was also named John Chapman.)
rainbow in your background Admin. Fitting for him
Fitting for the navy
Thanks for covering this Admin. He deserves the recognition and respect.
I thought the first MOH recorded was Lt. Hawkins on Tarawa in WW2. I could have sworn I saw some video of him on top of a bunker being a badass. Maybe it was all a fever dream though
Alexander "Sandy" Bonnyman
First MOH “Recorded on video”
@@5ve1e79 yes on video. They had cameras back then. They made a whole movie about that battle using video that they recorded
I served in AFSOC (as a pilot) from 2010-2015 and I just wanted to say I think it’s bad ass that you’re telling this story.
His MoH is the second caught on film, the first was Alexander Bonnyman on Tarawa.
I was about to mention the same thing. Not to detract from Chapman.
Wow I didn’t know that
Aim High! As someone who has graduated Air Force BMT and seen his MoH and beret in person. Was cool to see his weapon and story told on this channel. Felt a connection
@1:16 for some reason, I was waiting to see him struggling to roll over....to grab a bag of donuts or some junk food xD
I'm so happy someone finally made a proper clone that's true to what Chapman carried. Props to Otter that rifle is fucking sick, might build my own one day just because of this video.
The man definitely had balls! Sad to see the US Navy try fuck him over.
This is why the clone culture exists. It’s not only about the rifle, but the inspiration of the build and story behind it. Wether it’s the build behind John Chapman, or the mk12 mod1 behind Marcus Lutrell, understanding the story/history behind them, and the fact that it’s in our possession, is an honor.
They hold a real sense of weight to them. This is great content
2:34 that guy in the middle lookes like civ div
Woah holy shit, they look almost the same
@@Fenrir0202 yeah lol. I think civ div would have been like 10 when that pic was taken
@@legomyeggo1187its his dad
This rifle looks (and sounds) aesthetically pleasing and the fact it's a replica of absolute HERO just adds up to the cool factor!
I love Noveske. My favorite barrel is the "Out in Stock" option.
edit- This video is blessed by the double rainbow.
Out of Stock is second only to $3500 for a rifle that isn't that special. Post-John Noveske is pretty meh.
Double rainbow bump fire is peak! Rifle is beautiful. Super good vid.
Chappy wasn't trapped on that mountain with Al Qaeda. Al Qaeda was trapped on that mountain with him. RIP legend.
An unexpected but appreciated cloner video, thx admin
7:04 "Progress Photos" lol
I was blown away by his actions and just breath taking what a man can do when his life is on the line and fighting for the will to live despite slowly dying in the process.
Godspeed John Chapman you have earned this eternal rest.
The seals left him to die, damn cowards. Then the navy tried to block his MOH. The seals keep losing my respect
The Rainbow in the background @ 3:25 in, is the best thumbs up there is. Thanks for sharing his story.
Not the black ops 2 campaign music.
Chapman's rifle has lived rent-free in my head for a long time...long time. Thanks
May The Lord God Remember John In His Kingdom ☦️
Just graduated BMT yesterday and a few weeks ago we toured the AF history museum on base. They had his story in there and it stood out to me as something out of a movie. I spent more time reading his story than anything else in there. Unbelievable.
I feel like the rainbow over you while you talk is really cool. Kinda of God’s way of saying (besides never flooding the Earth again) “I am with you my child.”
coolest part of my AF career was being involved in the Chapman memorial at the CCS.
This rifle is otterly unbelievable. It's a sick build. I'm not an older dude but the quad rail life has been calling my name lately.
3:20 not having been in socom or the military, at all.
During an enemy counterattack, Chapman's rifle was later picked up and used by a ranger M249 SAW gunner Specialist Polson as his SAW malfunctioned every couple of rounds.
Those were good times. Then I got traded to the Raiders. We all had our pregame rituals. Marcus would do a couple of white women. Howie and Matt would hit each other and I would throw up in the bathroom.
We learned about MSgt Chapman during BMT. We watched the footage and learned his story. I was in the Chapman training complex 326th TRS.
Dude while you were telling that story about John there was a bad ass rainbow behind your right shoulder.......wow it's like he was saying thanks for the shout out. Really cool.
i love this story, i used to read it all the time. i spent 2 grueling months at the chapman training complex. this man was truly a legend. IYKYK
