Britt Sablinski should have not accepted that medal. Other than they get got run out of the objective by the enemy, I do not see the reason he got it. Ok, so he led his team off the "x" and away from the objective (while leaving a live teammate alone). How is that different from what many infantry combat veterans did over and over again in countless firefights in Iraq and Afghanistan? Britt got it, simply so that the SEALs did not look like cowards in contrast to what Chapman did in the face of the enemy. Downright shameful exercise in politics.

How are they going to make a movie based on John Chapman's actions without destroying the image of Seal team 6? They left him and one of them got the MoH for that. Yes, absolutely 'Alone At Dawn" is a story that needs to be told, but why was Chapman alone? The answer to that is why I don't see how the DOD let's this story be told.
Film need to made BECAUSE it will put Jocko and others back in their box. Their whole honour and hardmen eating nails who should get 50k+ a time teaching on good leadership and organisational ethos(!) is a travesty and their fake personas need puncturing. I'm afraid team 6 needs a clean up.
I honestly think that seal team members in all the confusion and darkness mistook the already deceased seal that fell for Chapman. The guys who left were shot to pieces , one guy had his leg amputated. Did they ditch him and leave him for dead? Not in the sense of what it seems like. They truly believed he was dead and the situation was 1. Everyone dies or 2. Break contact , and it’s a decision that’s made in the matter of seconds. If they knew he was alive they wouldn’t have left, evidenced by them coming back in the first place for the seal who fell. One thing I wonder however. If Chapman springs back to life and is shooting and fighting. Wouldn’t the seals who left realize at that point he’s alive just by hearing the gunfire or at least wonder , what’s going on up there ?
I have 2 AF security forces troops who recieved closed head injuries due to mortars in Iraq and the AF refused to award Purple Hearts to them despite them still suffering the effects and both are medically recorded. But any C130 pilot who flies near a battle gets a bronze star.
Awesome book. Just finished it an am glad I had the opportunity to learn about this great American warrior. Im not sure how anyone can watch the video and not instantly conclude that MSgt. Chapman didnt deserve the MoH.
Having a war library of 517 books, with another 226 on my phone, this is EASILY one of the Top-5 books on war, battle and the Warriors, in this case a single Warrior, that I've EVER read. This interview, while an excellent synopsis of the event and the Man, does not even come remotely close to describing either the Man or the battle!! If you read no other war/Warrior book, READ THIS BOOK!! Excellent interview👊 Continued Success🍻 RP
I'd love to compare books and see your library! This does it, I'll finally get the book. Chapman's story has been influential for many years, and I revisit the video often but for some reason have put off reading the book. Can't wait!
From what I have heard was that DEVGRU were like fish out of water in the beginning of the GWOT in Afghanistan. They really didn't know what they were doing out there because they weren't trained like CAG, SF, or Ranger Battalion was in advanced infantry tactics and long term land warfare in valleys and mountains. Things have changed a lot with DEVGRU now but back then it was different.
It had nothing to do with their training or capability. It was all due to piss poor leadership of the high up officers, one specifically. Tim Simanski!
The truth is that you have no idea. None of us do, and I was SF and deployed to Afghanistan and have friends in the SEALs. Unless you were in that unit at that time, you have zero idea. Bottom line, they f'ed up that operation in the most basic way. Sad, but true.
Coming from a civilian…I watched the flir video when it came out years ago and watched all the documentary’s…NOBODY, especially civilians, could ever begin to fathom what that GREAT MAN had to go through in training, much less be in the position of the AMERICAN BADASS that he was that day! What a HERO! Most humans would’ve coward down! Amazing man!
I think they can tell the story truthfully, and just condemn the individuals of devgru, not all if devgru, the navy, or seals as a whole. Also it would shed light on the 24th sts of the Air Force. People don't even know the USAF has special operations
It seems pretty clear he's not the biggest fan of Jake, most likely for however he approached taking another project. He emphasized "much bigger movie star" multiple times. Good. The person who you want for that movie should be a patriot and 100 percent committed to the legacy of TSgt Chapman.
Why did the seal team leader receive the medal of honor on the mission, who actually left John, why did he get the medal? He literally did nothing except withdraw and leave John behind!!
I joined the US Army as a Infantryman in 2006. Seeing that video of that man charging the enemy trench to protect that chopper was so inspiring. It set a fire under me to join and fight for my country.
Not many things move me emotionally, but the video of Chapman dying on his feet, fighting to protect his brothers-in-arms, gets me every time. He was a man among men. This country doesn't deserve his sacrifice.
8:56 Secretary of the Airforce Debbie James, one thing about the Government and Military is she was not worried one bit about giving MOH’s to retired or fallen soldiers, it was her job to help with recruitment especially within a branch like the Air Force where most people don’t put Special Operations and Air Force in the same sentence even though they have CCT and they also have other tough jobs but regardless a cake eater like her has one thing in mind and that’s helping recruitment numbers especially because these past several years, numbers have gone down drastically in recruits.
the Air Force hates its enlisted combat arms related service members, as if it would take away from the officers some how, its just the fact of the matter.
Reading the book, seeing the footage, and playing the game based off of the entire operation, the only other time I have had this gut wrenching feeling and utter disbelief and disgust is when I saw and heard what happened on the last days of the afgan withdraw.
Playing the game?? This was not a game to these guys it was allowed real . You might be a good dude but including that it your comment is disrespectful to everyone involved.
Thank you for your service. However, in this case it was Naval Special Warfare leadership that actively fought the upgrade, because it exposed the fact that John Chapman was left behind. Such facts challenge the all-important Seal narrative. NSW was willing to sacrifice their integrity to maintain the brand.
It wasn't until Secretary of the Air Force James got involved that Chappy was even considered for the Medal of Honor. The previous Air Force leadership for 10+ years after Chappy died on Roberts Ridge did absolutely nothing to advance a MOH or even investigate whether he deserved the Medal of Honor. You are dealing with an Air Force leadership that routinely denied Bronze Stars with Valor for Combat Controllers,Pararescue (PJs) and TACPs while giving Bronze Stars to officers pulling staff / desk duty in Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and on FOBs/COBs in Iraq and Afghanistan who never even were involved in any kind of combat.
Other than Fearless (Adam Brown story) Alone at Dawn is the best post 911 book I’ve read. I like the way he tells the story of John snd the battle while he also tells the story of CCT. I knew nothing of CCT before this book. Tremendous book.
@@byronbass1370 I can’t put into words the exceptionality of the book, Fearless. Before I retired from the fire service, I read it during a 24hr shift and I couldn’t put it down. I was even reading it inside my ladder truck, whilst returning to the station after responding to calls. I never even made my bed at the station that night. I’ve heard so many veterans say, that the best guys are usually the ones who get killed and it certainly rings true with Adam, especially after hearing from veterans who served in the teams with him.
What pisses me off, is that they were suppose to make a movie about John Champman, actor Jake Gyllenhaal. But the Marines/Navy have blocked it so far, because the movie was suppose to start fliming in 2021. They don't wanna make Devgru look bad, as they left a airman behind.
The reason the AF does a shitty job of promoting top decorations ( especially to its enlisted) is because if it doesn't involve an Air Force academy graduate pilot, why bother. Sad but true!
& the Master Chief got the medal of Honor largely based off lies & twisted facts to spin an embarrassment to the SEALs into a hero story. It was also the first SEAL team 6 mission of the war and was an absolute shit show...so they had to spin it & bury Chapman who was the real hero
Unfortunately, that is a true statement. Air Force leadership only cares about rewarding their pilots and Air Force Academy graduates. The Medal of Honor for Sgt Pitsenbarger, the Vietnam era PJ, took 30 years and it was only approved because the Army soldiers he saved would not give up the fight. It's a friggin shame that it took 30 years for Puts MOH and 16 years for my old teammate (two different teams but not the 24 STS) John Chapman.
Funny I know a dude who was up there with the rangers. The funny part is I had no idea he was there until I read the book, nor did I know he got a silver star. I’m excited for the movie as long its American Sniper or Blackhawk Down level. It has to be on that level.
great video David however, this was not the first Medal of Honor earned since Vietnam. Gary Gordon and Randy Shughart, 2 Army Delta Force soldiers, earned the MoH in 1993 in Somalia in the Blackhawk Down mission.
I would have like to hear you talk about msgt chapman with a little more compassion this man is a national treasure. war is horrible . Rest in peace bad ass
The word "intrepidity" is one they cut and paste into award text but, boy, did Chapman personify that description. He was an amazing fighting man when the situation required it!! Nothing but awe and respect on my part.
One of the saddest videos I have ever seen. My heart broke when you could see the seals running away ... I didn't think soldiers did that to other soldiers :(
The two that he said he has personally seen their actions and deserving of the MOH are Delta Operators Randy Shugart and Gary Gordon during Operation Gothic Serpent. (Somalia)
Gid bless TSGT CHAPMAN... He was a beast and a true hero... Shame on those blocking his CMH. Being an AF vet of Somalia Bosnia Kosovo DS/Storm Enduring Freedom.. the AF is not about taking care of the NON FLYERS.. That's just their mentality. Those of us who chose AF as a career gladly volunteered/voluntold for Contingencies... are well aware of our missing documented valor... combat actions of early on to heroism... to include volunteering for AIRBORNE , AA and other schools not in our wheel house... WE WERE asked to do convoys in Iraq as we were never trained for that BUT WE DID IT ANYWAY... AF can keep those medals...we know what we did... again...if it's not winged flight bravery ... it's not news
Why wouldn't the air force want to show the world the heros the air force put out this .these men go through the toughest training there is 2 years just to get through the pipe line .there like superman who don't get the credit for the work they put in .they put there life on the line every time they go out to save someone.
Why wouldn't the USAF want to show the world the heroes of the USAF? It's for many different reasons...one of these is because most are enlisted people. Another is because the individuals in question is NOT a PILOT. The USAF has problems highlighting their enlisted people. I also know that there are some pilots who don't get very much of a highlight for great stuff they've done...I'm pretty sure that in one case it's because he's not an ACADEMY GRAD. Lot's of things add up to some really deserving people NOT getting much notoriety in the USAF (and in other services).
The Air Force only cares about PJ/CCT when it comes to commercials for recruiting enlisted thrill seekers. Those career fields are not what Air Force Officers give two shits about because they only are concerned with pilots, most accurately the fighter community. Additionally, they are blissfully unaware of what the high speed units out there are doing because they have no OPCON of them.
Rob definitely deserves the Medal of Honor upgrade to his Air Force Cross but it will never happen as the Air Force (non) leadership figures they already gave one enlisted CCT a posthumous Medal of Honor so they are good for the next fifty years
Great vid, ironically I ordered the book just last night before seeing this vid today. Glad the true story of Robert’s Ridge is getting out. Brent Tucker (Delta) has a lot of interesting info on this event and others relating to questionable SEAL narratives.

Why don't they tell about BM2s story . He was my cousin and I've heard 4 different storys.i was navy the pmc s I was around their but would like to hear the truth.
The Air Force does suck at combat awards. I was an Air Force HH60G Flight Engineer in Afghanistan and we were told by our Commander in 2008 that even though the missions and acts we were doing on a weekly basis would have been grounds for awards back when the war started, that it was just routine now. I am not talking about routine missions. Once, our crews were prepositioned at FB Anaconda with Army SF dudes when very accurate enemy mortars starting coming in. I was in the TOC with my crew, while SF was scrambling to counterattack. I was told to take an antenna out to the mortar pits so they could communicate. I ran outside, found the mortar pit and gave them the antennae. The two dudes in the pit told me to go grab some 120mm mortars so we could start counter battery fire. So I did. We launched mortars back at the enemy and destroyed them. After we landed back at Bagram and the story got out about how I was supporting the mortar team, the talk amongst the unit was that I should get some type of recognition. I didn't care, because after that deployment was over I knew I was getting out. I had already submitted my paperwork to discharge, and my Commander knew it. He made the decision that going through the effort to write any award would be a waste of time. Our Awards and Decorations Officer, an 0-3 who I was good friends with said that was complete BS and actually wrote a line in one of my Air Medals detailing that day for posterity. TSgt John Chapman deserves every bit of the Medal of Honor, and it is criminal that it took so long.

@@hamonryechinaski180Jocko is still valid
The air force hates cops or SF nowadays battlefield is for the usmc and the army
@@JamesJewell-si9iv If it's not an award for an O, an O is not going to submit or support the award. AF Officers are terribly territorial.

Awesome book. Just finished it an am glad I had the opportunity to learn about this great American warrior. Im not sure how anyone can watch the video and not instantly conclude that MSgt. Chapman didnt deserve the MoH.
Chapman was truly a man amongst men.
Interesting video. Thank you for sharing this interview. God bless 🙏
Superb video, well deserving of MOH, glad he finally was awarded it! Authors did a great job on book too! Well done.
Hey man, I have listed to close to a 100 books according to my Audible, yours is the by far the best one yet. You have something to be proud of..
Excellent interview👊
Continued Success🍻

I'd love to compare books and see your library! This does it, I'll finally get the book. Chapman's story has been influential for many years, and I revisit the video often but for some reason have put off reading the book.
Can't wait!
I Bet that you have an amazing collection sir!!
I'd love to have a look at yoir reading list as well!
What a powerful statement, and one that I’m glad you wrote for us all! I’m getting the book. Thanks
Ordered. What other books are in that top 5?
From what I have heard was that DEVGRU were like fish out of water in the beginning of the GWOT in Afghanistan. They really didn't know what they were doing out there because they weren't trained like CAG, SF, or Ranger Battalion was in advanced infantry tactics and long term land warfare in valleys and mountains. Things have changed a lot with DEVGRU now but back then it was different.
Back then it was Hostage rescue and Anti Terrorist oriented.
The SMUs are definitely more uniform now.
JSOC set things up during GWOT so that that became inevitable
It had nothing to do with their training or capability. It was all due to piss poor leadership of the high up officers, one specifically. Tim Simanski!
The truth is that you have no idea. None of us do, and I was SF and deployed to Afghanistan and have friends in the SEALs. Unless you were in that unit at that time, you have zero idea. Bottom line, they f'ed up that operation in the most basic way. Sad, but true.
@@silkplayer9and they should never change. Just they shouldnt be used in this type of missions.
It's an amazing read. Well written, totally breaks down the life of all of those operator's. You can feel it, smell it, live it right along with them.
Loved this book, it should be required reading for every young person in America.
I eagerly await the production of the movie.
That would be interesting. I didn't know they were planning on making a movie about it.
Nice....Been connected witb Dan for several years...NICE JOB!
I would like to see Bart interviewed again to see why his story was so drastically different
John Chapman is the perfect example of why they've always called us "The Quiet Professionals"
Why did the seal team leader receive the medal of honor on the mission, who actually left John, why did he get the medal? He literally did nothing except withdraw and leave John behind!!
It’s crazy. The drone footage doesn’t lie
👍!
Because Slab lied
Should have lost rank for leaving a man behind not awarded the MOH. Disgusting.

Please make sure the movie is made accurately to the incident.
ASQD my Troop SGM watched the whole shit show and had no idea the SEALS would make a Hollywood Victory out of a complete failure
Thank you for the amazing content🙏🏽
the Air Force hates its enlisted combat arms related service members, as if it would take away from the officers some how, its just the fact of the matter.
Unfortunately, that is the truth. The Air Force hates anything and anyone that detracts from the "glory" of their Academy graduate pilots.
It’s sad he was left for dead and then award one of those men the MOH. 🤦🏻
I am reading the book ALONE AT DAWN.
Great read Bro!
Seals left him for dead? Good choice of words for the ones that love the lime light for being excellent warriors.

Thought navy seals never leave a man behind? I thought they didn’t know he was left behind. Until they heard radio communications.

To drop a line of thanks. And let him know that it sold at least another book. And I feel it will make me sad but proud.
As a Air Force enlisted retiree I can tell you why no metals awarded. Pilots. That's all the Air Force cares about. Pilots.
Thank you for your service. However, in this case it was Naval Special Warfare leadership that actively fought the upgrade, because it exposed the fact that John Chapman was left behind. Such facts challenge the all-important Seal narrative. NSW was willing to sacrifice their integrity to maintain the brand.
I was referring to his question as to why the Air Force is so slow or even unwilling to try to advance metals for enlisted.
@@mattkosakowski7582
Seals are slowing becoming the guys that leave you behind. Never in a million years would I have ever believed that.
Other than Fearless (Adam Brown story) Alone at Dawn is the best post 911 book I’ve read. I like the way he tells the story of John snd the battle while he also tells the story of CCT. I knew nothing of CCT before this book. Tremendous book.
Highly suggest Not a Good Day to Die, by Sean Naylor.
Fearless is so good

Well it doesn’t help that the seals actively tried to prevent chapmans Medal of Honor
I meant to say Pits not Puts. Stupid autocorrect and it won't let me edit my original post.
@@hectorriverajr4945Yep they even made a film on the Vietnam PJ and it was absolutely disgrace
So the Navy Seal team didn't help John out at all. Do I have that right?
Dan, thank you for your service.
Seals left him, the seal should never of received the MOH. SAD......
Didn't he leave the Seals?? Watch the video....5 of the 6 goes one way..and the other takes off,,,,

Chapman has balllllllllls like an Elephant.. Watched the video of John is very sad at the end but this dude is a Legend if not God Status!!
While Dan is a gentleman and won’t say it I will.
The SEAL community and the big Navy fought against John getting the MOH.
I would have like to hear you talk about msgt chapman with a little more compassion this man is a national treasure. war is horrible . Rest in peace bad ass
I watched the Video of John Chapman Fighting on that Mountain.
The word "intrepidity" is one they cut and paste into award text but, boy, did Chapman personify that description. He was an amazing fighting man when the situation required it!! Nothing but awe and respect on my part.
It's tragic.
One of the saddest videos I have ever seen. My heart broke when you could see the seals running away ... I didn't think soldiers did that to other soldiers :(
That drone footage gives me chills. I see one badass warrior straight up kicks ass while the others run to save their own ass.
The two that he said he has personally seen their actions and deserving of the MOH are Delta Operators Randy Shugart and Gary Gordon during Operation Gothic Serpent. (Somalia)
I first heard John’s name in Afghanistan. True warrior! 🙏
Nice job, Danno!
A real dark eye for the Navy and the integrity of SEALs. Seals won't leave a Seal behind, but they will leave me or you behind.
Was the ISR footage leaked first?
Incredible.
It's because the Air Force leadership are pilots. Notice it's the enlisted people that don't get awarded the metals
Because they’re not officers/pilots, from a retired enlisted man I saw it first hand.
11:25 Rob Gutierrez seems like such a humble person. His stories are truly unbelievable. I would love to drink some bourbon with him!
Rob definitely deserves the Medal of Honor upgrade to his Air Force Cross but it will never happen as the Air Force (non) leadership figures they already gave one enlisted CCT a posthumous Medal of Honor so they are good for the next fifty years
A book that’s actually true instead of the BS story of Marcus Lutrell
I lost my luster for AF when they were awarding Bronze stars and awards for valor to drone pilots in Iraq.
They did that?
