  • I BOUGHT THIS SAW YEAR AGO BEFOR I KNEW THERE WAS A DIFFERENCE IN THESE AND THE BRUSHLESS VERSION. I HAVE USED IT SOME BUT NOT A LOT. OBVIOUSLY THE FUEL BRUSHLESS VERSION IS SUPERIOR BUT I STILL COULDNT BRING MYSELF TO TOSS THIS ONE. FIGUREED IT WAS WORTH TRYING TO FIX.

Glad someone is willing to show you don’t need to go out and buy a brand new tool just because something minor breaks on it. Glad you’re willing to showcase this in our “throwaway” society.

Years ago my dad in law had a late 70s Dodge van. All the exterior lights stopped working except for the headlights. After chasing and tracing it was revealed that the turn signal switch wasn't working, which controlled everything including the brake lights. It seemed that it was an issue because none of the parts houses had one nor did the junk yards.
So into the switch I went. It had gotten very hot and melted the plastic around the terminals to the point that the contacts didn't touch. Dad still worked and needed the van so I got out the soldering iron, heated up the terminal and moved it back into place. The connector was cooked too so I designed the leads and pushed them straight onto the lugs. The van had a factory tow package and the only thing I could think was when we were towing the boat trailer it drew too much current. The switch was still backorder so being the "repair"
had the lights working I put all the trailer lights on relays and as soon as the new switch came in have his mechanic install it. I had to return to my duty station at Ellsworth AFB and he living in central Florida didn't allow my rapid return.
The switch held out for another 15 years until the van got so rusty it was dangerous and I got it for parts. I sure was surprised to see that switch still in there and found the new one in a box under the seat.
Why on earth all the lights including the brakes had to go through the turn signal switch is beyond me.
It never was meant to be permanent......LOL!
    Good fix on the saw.....
    Cheers
    Terry

JC. Thank you for showing us out here that it is possible to still fix anything. Just take some time, find the cause, and make the fix. Appreciated.

I believe that they have a 5 year warranty. I have bought a few of their battery tools and batteries to a local Milwaukee dealer and got everything replaced with no issues as long as they were in the warranty 5 years

My shop has a similar look to it as yours. It may appear to be chaos but I know if something is missing from where I put it. This is what a working man’s shop looks like not a showroom.
    Nice video.

Many years ago I ran a construction company and I did all the maintenance on our tools. Those switches failed so often I bought at lease six whenever I ordered. The skill saws and drills just ate them and I never did find a switch manufacturer that was better than another.

All I can say is it’s always a good thing when you can fix your own tools. I’m not going to bring up how JC’s rip saw morphed into a table saw during the trailer decking project because that would be pointless. 😂

I've done my share of rotation switches and once the contacts go from convex to concave they won't last very long once reconditioned. The board controls voltage and blade brake .

    • @j.c.smithprojects

so i assume it reverses polarity for the blade brake?

Thinking that for how many are made, robotics must assemble them... that is scary when many people need work yet give them a job and they just depend on more handouts.. not a winning situation. Nice save on expensive equipment. Now days many things just get tossed in a recycle bin and they send another one with some work done on it. Short of labeling something is the only way to assure its your original tool. No eclipse as of three o'clock here in alaska... just as well as I would of probably just slept through it/ LOL

It must be a common problem. Same saw, Same light use, same crappy switch. Mine you need to click the switch a few times and then it takes off.
