Hi Steve, I work at Batteries Plus. I've done a lot of repairs on drill batteries and rebuilt them as well. For your DeWalt battery, the minimum voltage for the charger to recognize it needs to be charged would be 16 volts to about 15.5. This is because it has multiple different batteries in it and those batteries are 18650s. Each one of those batteries have a 3.7 volt charge. 18650s minimum voltage required to charge would be around 2.5 volts. Multiplying that by how many batteries it has gives you the minimum requirement for the charger to recognize it needs to be charged
Do you guys repair Packs with 18650's or larger lithium cells at your batteries plus? Cuz all we used to do at the one I worked at were the Ni-CD and Ni-MH ones.
@@UpintheAir1395 Hey man! My store doesn't work on the lithium packs due to the possibility of there being damaged lithium and shorting out the electronic causing the batteries to overload. I am just familiar with the packs because I use 18650s for other purposes.
I'm shocked that an electronics guy gave up on fixing a battery, or heck, even put it back on the charger, without checking the voltages of the individual cells. Milwaukee in particular might just flip a switch in software and say "never try to charge this again" after a couple failures. 14.5V means nothing if that's 3.6v per cells on 4 cells, and one cell at zero. Or... just try to charge up the weak cells manually and see if they take some energy. It's so simple and he didn't even check!
I have fixed over a dozen old batteries some with water damage etc. only see one bad board surprisingly. Red green one was definitely like Jesse said low voltage. I usually balance charge the cells first to at least 3.5 volts so they all match. If one cell is very weak I usually replace it which is a pain. That spot welder you have doesn’t seem very strong. Mine was cheap under $40 and will melt those nickel strips like butter if I don’t watch the level. I usually test before use so I don’t melt something I need lol.
@@MattsAwesomeStuffThis guy is used to fixing circuitboards on ps5:s, xbox:es and so on. Not fixing batterypacks for powertools. This was a spinoff-video so you can't blame him for not having knowledge about these type of repairs.
Love your videos, Being an electrician with minimal electronics experience I was able to fix a couple of Nintendo switches and a playstation 4 pro after watching your RUclips. I am a 3 time cancer survivor with the last one being stage 4. The cure is rough but 8 years later I am still here. You got this Steve!
I can still remember when my mother had to go through her Treatments too. And you are a strong mind person. I will be praying for your quickly recovery. God bless you. And your family..
I had my prostate removed 15 months ago because I had cancer. It was like someone hit me with a bat when they told me. I was worried because I did not know how the future was going to be. The best news was that it had not spread and I wish the same for you. I have been getting my PSA checked so that my count does not start going back up. God bless you and stay positive. You will get thru this.
Take all the time in the world sir. Your health is far more important than a weekly video. As for cancer, you've got this, the world needs its best electric repairman.
Hey steve. It’s very rare I post comments on RUclips I just watch and like but I had to let you know I’m thinking of you and wishing you good health! Countless hours of knowledge and entertainment have come from you and you massively nurtured my passion for repairs! so thanks so much! Take care man❤
Best of luck to you Steve, sending you huge prayers. I myself am battling ovarian cancer. I've been through chemo, surgery, targeted therapy and just started immunotherapy last weel. Take care of yourself and get as much exercise as you feeel capable of. It makes a huge difference as well as keeping a positive attitude. Bless you.
Steve, I went through a pretty rough radiation + chemo regime last year, and keeping focused on work and hobbies was a nice distraction and definitely healthier than just curling up into a ball and feeling sorry for myself. So it's good to see that you're still making content. Take care of your mental and physical health, and be sure to kick cancer's ass.
Oh no! We're praying for you Steve! I have nothing but massive respect for you and your work. I hope your treatment goes well and that you'll come back stronger than ever! VERY instructional video! I work in construction and face this problem all the time. Dead batteries! Although the newer batteries for most tools are much better and way more durable then the old Ni-Cad stuff it's still a pain paying north of $500 for a tool set with two batteries that crap out in less than a year and, as you stated, replacements are just stupid expensive. I know gaming systems and consoles are your thing but this is the kind of instructional videos that could help thousands of people like me save money! Thanks for what you do! Enjoy your content and have learned a lot. You have my prayers for what you are going through and it sounds like you are dealing with it like a trouper! I have lost several family members to this heinous disease and it is why I get screened every year. So far I have been fortunate and healthy. Please keep us posted on how things are going for you. hi steve, i watch your video for about 2-3 years now, i studied in electronic repair because of your video. i am now certified thanks to you aha. a lot of your video help me understand electronics better then my teachers. sorry to hear about your health, i am trully sorry, just keep in mind that everything is fixable with a lot of hard work, even you. keep up your amazing work steve i am pretty sure i am not the only one you inspire with your work. have a nice day. I missed the original post where you told us that you were ill. I really enjoy watching your videos - I find them very soothing. You make it look so easy, it makes me think I can do it! (I've already fixed a remote control at work that just needed a clean with IPA!) It's rubbish that you're poorly, but great that you are being looked after and receiving treatment. I wish you and your family well, as well as wish you a speedy recovery. Thank you for all your content so far.
I’ve seen this a couple of times. But when the battery is fully depleted, you have to jumpstart it. People grab a good known battery and grab some wire and you’ll hear a click and that would be the battery just got jump started and then put it on the charger. Sorry to hear about your condition Steve. I hope all goes well with no complications. We all want to see you get very well soon.
It's been months since I had the opportunity to watch your videos... and I want to tell you that you inspire me and that I learned like you, and you taught me a lot... It's amazing how you can change my mood from bad to good when I see you repair something and I know the feeling you get when you see it working. I know that your diagnosis is never good news, and I'm not going to lie, I usually don't believe in good energies and things like that, but if they exist, I'm really sending you all my good vibes... a trip is not a fall... I really appreciate you and it's incredible how a video of you on a bad day can change so many things. My best wishes from Argentina, sorry for my rustic English, I understand a lot, but I speak little...

Sorry to hear about the health issues … always enjoy watching your videos. I have learned so much from you. Thinking of you and praying for your speedy recovery and health.
Best wishes for your future health Steve. I don't have cancer but I am in heart failure which coupled with spinal injuries that have resulted in extremely painful peripheral neuropathy in my feet means I take every day as it comes. Some days are better than others but I am also aware there is ALWAYS someone worse off than myself. What bothers me more than the pain is to see the concern on the faces of my children and grandchildren so you put a brave face on it and take the good days to make memories. Best wishes Steve.
My wife is currently on the tail end of her Xeloda chemo, it's going to be a journey but you got this man. Moisturize till you feel like you're going insane and keep hydrated!
You are a huge inspiration to fix my own things, it’s sucks when you can’t fix your own self but I’m sure you’re in good hands and you’ll make a quick and thorough recovery like all your fixes! Stay strong! 💪
I’m a huge fan of the channel. I am making this comment as I watch so I’m not sure if you’ll figure this out this video. The cells should each be about 3-3.9 volts. Typically if a cell goes bad the battery won’t charge anymore. The individual cell can be replaced but they usually need to be balanced with each cell as close to the same voltage as possible. That circuit board has a battery management system (BMS) that balances each cell during charging. So if a cell is bad (low voltage) the charger will not charge it and they usually recommend taking it somewhere to be recycled.
Im not sure how to say, what i want to say. You are such a wonderful youtube personality. So positive, and joyful. Im so sorry youve been given this challenge, but i know youll crush it. God bless and comfort you and your family during these upcoming months. As merely a faceless subscriber to your channel, i know there is not much i can do, but if there is anything this community can do for you...please ask. Go beat this! You can fix anything! Much love!
I wish you the best Steve for the upcoming months. It shocked me hearing this about your health, but you'll beat this terrible illness. Thanks for sharing.

Im so sorry about your diagnosis, i got diagnosed with one back in february of 2022, i still have that small device in my neck/chest for the chemo, hope everything goes as well as it went for me. Keep a strong mind, eat well and dont force yourself!
I wish you a speedy recovery! I'm dealing with a similar situation right now. My 2 year old nephew was diagnosed with Myleofibrosis. Which is a rare disease where his bone marrow is basically becoming scar tissue. Fortunately his older brother (7 years old) is a bone marrow match, and is willing to do a transplant. But my 2 year old nephew still has to undergo a bit of chemotherapy before the transplant to kill off the bad bone marrow cells
Best of luck to you Steve. I got diagnosed with an agressive NHL end of November and i am in my fifth chemo cycle. The side efffects ot the therapy are manageable with the medication nowadays.

Man, the only thing I can say, is i´ll be praying for you. I went through some health problem for over 7 years and after being checked up by every doctor there was to be had and taking every medication I was prescribed without getting any improvement, i lost hope of ever being cured, the chronic pain was unbearable to the point that on more than one occasion i wished to die but to make a long story short all it took for me was prayer to regain my health, so i know first hand how powerful prayers are I'll be praying for you so God may heal you through the Doctors that are seeing you.
Steve, utmost respect and admiration for your openness and your commitment to continue with your work and entertainment for everyone. 'Hey, just so you know I'm actually quite poorly at the moment, but it's ok I'll deal with it. Anyway, let's get back to work'.... Just know that you don't have to do this for us. Your physical and mental health is far more important. I wish you all the best and a happy healthy future.

Hi Steve, I hope you resolve your health problem as soon as possible and I admire your strength of mind which shines through in your video. Your videos caught my attention for your clear and simple way of approaching repairs and have become a pleasant habit for me. I wish you best of luck.
I had a Ryobi battery from new for years, it suddenly stopped charging and sat in my shed for months. One day i opened it up and connected my motorbike recovery charger to one of the cells, few seconds on then plugged the battery back on its charger, it charged to full in an hour and has been working perfectly ever since. :)
Man the humility you show to be concerned about US while you're going through cancer treatment is beyond amazing. Chemo sucks and hits you hard and I'm sure I can speak for everyone here in saying focus on resting and getting better. Even if that means limiting uploading and just take care of yourself. I have to admit though when you said "you'll be seeing hat Steve" I chuckled a bit. My family and I are sending positive vibes your way Steve. You got this
Hey bro I hope you pull through, my dad's been going through the same thing for the past 2 years now. It sucks when somebody gets cancer but all you can do is stay positive. Stay strong!
Sorry to hear that. My dad had lymphoma cancer and he was getting treatment as well. That was back in 2012.. keep on fighting don’t give up you could beat it
Big fans down here in Clearwater Steve. I’ve watched you for over 5 years and my oldest son, 24 (autistic) absolutely loves watching you as well. We’re pulling for ya my guy!
You got this steve and keep that positive outlook that you always show on the channel. Me , my mother and my uncle all have life changing disabilities. I have learned how to repair my Nintendo switch joy cons by watching your channel and many other electronic devices and things you have repaired.
I repaired many of these battery packs. Many I got with corrosion (those I directly throw away), some with disconnected cells (bad spot welding) and most with dead/bad cells. Only few had burned ICs or electronic defects. For those with bad or disconnected cells, I replace the cells after I give them a full charge/discharge/charge cycle and select the cells with (near) the same capacity. I fixed many, starting for myself and later for friends, work colleagues. It helped me to learn how to spot weld, in the process I built my home-made spot welder, I bought nickel stripes, 2000mAh 18650 lithium cells. Also, many cells I find in those dead battery packs, are good (>80% capacity left) so I use them to power another things (BT speakers, flashlights, powerbanks or any thing that will take these cells). I also tried to replace the old NiMh battery packs on old portable tools with lithium ones with mixed results.
From Singapore 🇸🇬: Best Wishes on your recovery...when on treatment..and when things go tough..ways tell yourself that it may get tough before it gets better..so just follow through..and after a few months of recovery you will feel much better. Best Wishes again
Sorry to hear about the cancer. I was diagnosed with B Cell Lymphoma back in 2021 and went through a couple of different courses of chemo and finally a stem cell/bone marrow transplant in 2022. I was given the all clear at the end of that year, but always gotta be monitored in case it comes back. One thing I will say is hair loss really does depend on the chemo used and your own genetics. The first two chemo types they did with me did not result in hair loss, but the third one did (as did the fourth version which they give before the transplant). It wasn't just head hair though. Beard, chest, pubic hair and even eyebrows went, but was incredibly lucky I did not lose my eyelashes as that can cause serious discomfort. Hope you get through this. If I can do it so can you. On the subject of batteries, back in 2019 I bought a took box/drill combo and barely used it (as I say, 2021/2022 I spent a lot of my life in and out of hospital). It actually came with three batteries. Back in Jan this year I went to use it and all three batteries would not take a charge. I asked the drill manufacturer if it is normal for lithium batteries to just die through lack of use as I was not sure if it was the batteries or the charger at fault, and have limited funds to replace them. The manufacturer representative was pretty useless though as it took him ages to reply and when he did, all he said was "I spoke to our engineers and they said is it still in warranty" ... didn't really answer my question. In the end I took a punt and bought a non OEM battery and it proved the charger was fine, but the three batteries were toast, so ended up recycling them. Price for original batteries is ridiculous. When you consider the price I paid for the toolbox, drill and three batteries, one battery was the same price as all of that. The non OEM one was half the price.
My dad was diagnosed with cancer and went through rounds of chemo and radiation. Sadly my dad does not have a very positive outlook on the situation. So please I beg you to keep your head up and fight hard. Don’t worry that much about the videos, and keep your main focus on your health. May your treatments go well!

I beat a form of testicular cancer at 19 that manifested itself in my chest cavity. It had been there growing since I was a baby. What happens is a germ cell is attached to the testicles as they drop in the embryo stage and the germ cell was left behind in my chest area where is grew to be the size of two grapefruits and almost killed me.. it was wrapped up with my aorta and so heavy it was crushing my trachea when I laid down. You'd never know from the outside as I was an athlete. Three months of chemo 5:06 and I was in remission with no sign of tumor. Fox Chase Cancer Center in Ohilly saved my LIFE. That was in 1998 and I'm 46 now. It's beatable, brother.

Take care man❤
Hey bud, as someone who had an S.O. go through cancer, and now carcinoma myself, you have my -- and your communities support. Stay strong. 👍
Best of luck to you Steve, sending you huge prayers. I myself am battling ovarian cancer. I've been through chemo, surgery, targeted therapy and just started immunotherapy last weel. I'm still feeeling great and not suffering any sesrious side effects except for peripheral neurophy in my feet.
I also have a port. I doubt most people would be able to spot it. Take care of yourself and get as much exercise as you feeel capable of. It makes a huge difference as well as keeping a positive attitude.
Bless you.
With the amount of things you fix Steve, you will 100% fix your body. Good health and great video buddy.
Thanks for the comment! I don’t have to go through radiation so I’m thankful for that. You keep your chin up too!
Thoughts and prayers to you and your family, good luck during treatment. You have an amazing community who are willing to support from afar.
Thoughts are with you! You just take care of you! Your followers will be here when you post!
Oh no! We're praying for you Steve! I have nothing but massive respect for you and your work. I hope your treatment goes well and that you'll come back stronger than ever!
Focus on yourself and your health. I think I speak for everyone when I say it's more than ok for you to reduce your upload frequency if not to stop uploading at all.
Thank you for teaching thousands of us with your videos and for always being genuine and transparent with your content. You've been a massive inspiration for me and I'm sure that you've also been an inspiration for others as well!
Stay strong! 🙏
my father beat Lymphoma, Bone cancer and prostate cancer all within 10 years.
Hes fully recovered and doing very well!
You got this dude!
As a bald guy: rock it. It takes some getting used to, but you have a good head shape for being bald. Just sont forget sunscreen. Having a peeling head is no fun.
Just wanted to say that I’m praying for you and your family. Jesus loves you.
Your strength and resilience during this challenging time are truly inspiring. I admire your courage in sharing your journey with others through your RUclips videos.
Remember, you're not alone in this battle. We're all rallying behind you, sending you positive vibes and love each step of the way. Your determination and positivity are incredibly powerful forces, and I have no doubt that you'll overcome this obstacle.
Take all the time you need to rest and heal, and know that whenever you're ready, we'll be here to support you in any way we can. Wishing you a speedy recovery and sending you all the healing energy in the world. Get well soon, my friend.
We may just be fans but we do care and are concerned about you and your health. Be strong and beat this thing. Stay positive!
eu imagino que você não queira isso, mas você é o tipo de pessoa que deveria viver pra sempre! o mundo precisa de pessoas como você. espero total recuperação da sua saúde steve!
Hi Steve
I hope your feeling strong considering the situation you are in my friend!
Its never easy dealing with anything that attacks our health and lives! You stay strong and focused like you already are! We can see you have your mind totally focused like you do with your work and youtube! your a really top guy who deserves alot of love and respect for all you do in the tech community!
I hope the treatments go well and the side effects get more bearable! Whether your were a hat or bandana thats upto u we could see an epic tronicsfix bandana come out? that be cool!
But thanks aswell keeping things totally real and honest! its a big wake up to all of us to always check things!
Much love steve long time viewer/sub i love the videos!
Not sure what you believe in, but God bless you man. I went thru pretty gnarly chemo session in 2017. Keep your spirits high and taco bell will be your friend. Spicy helped me get thru it. I had 8 session all a weeklong with hospital stay each time. I know you don't know us here but will help out with any information to help you get thru it. Love the content and you have helped me not be scared to jump in and fix boards and components. Thanks again and good luck with it all.
hi steve, i watch your video for about 2-3 years now, i studied in electronic repair because of your video. i am now certified thanks to you aha. a lot of your video help me understand electronics better then my teachers. sorry to hear about your health, i am trully sorry, just keep in mind that everything is fixable with a lot of hard work, even you. keep up your amazing work steve i am pretty sure i am not the only one you inspire with your work. have a nice day. William from Quebec
God bless you dude. You're tough, you'll do just fine.
I have a friend that had the same thing that you have. And he made a full recovery and i'm sending you my prayers, get well soon!
Since I was a kid I always love repairing stuff that I find around my house. sometimes I fix it sometimes I don't have the tool or I just screwd up. When I find out your channel I'm ımmediately become a fan of your videos and your works. İt is sad to hear this situation but I m pretty sure you can get through it !! I hope you get better quickly. Best wishes from turkey 😊❤
I wish you and your family all the best during this time. I have had several family members and close friends have cancer over the year as I'm sure we all have. Stay strong, YOU GOT THIS!!
We believe in you Steve!
You've got an iron will to push through these insane repairs, and I hope that carries over into the rest of your life ❤
My wife is currently on the tail end of her Xeloda chemo, it's going to be a journey but you got this man. Moisturize till you feel like you're going insane and keep hydrated!
You are a huge inspiration to fix my own things, it’s sucks when you can’t fix your own self but I’m sure you’re in good hands and you’ll make a quick and thorough recovery like all your fixes! Stay strong! 💪
Aw, Steve... That's awful, good that you're staying positive. I wish you well with your health, here's to you and your family. ❤
Steve, I got back into electronics repair because of you. I watch Phil because of you. I will be here with you on this challenge.
Much love!
Get well soon sir, God speed as you are fixed as you keep on fixing stuff that's broken.
I wish you the best Steve for the upcoming months.
It shocked me hearing this about your health, but you'll beat this terrible illness.
Thanks for sharing.
I’m so sorry to hear about your health. You have been so calming, so insightful, and very clear in every video. May you recover Steve!
I had stage 2 hodgekins lymphoma. You will come out of this. Keep your head up! Going on 11 years now!
My wife is currently going through classic Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Sometimes things can be tough but it's curable and support is there. Stay strong. You'll get through this
I have had friends with similar life shattering news who managed to get the all clear after extensive chemo and radio treatment. Every one of your viewers will be willing the universe to get you fixed. You'll get through this. Best wishes.
Steve-- We are delighted to find your channel. This is exactly the information ("entertainment") we need. Outstanding value comes from your comments as you explore at approximately our own novice level, so we follow your presentation easily.
Get well, Steve!!! My brother also had lymphoma in 2004 (Burkitt) and he beat it, and so will you. I have no doubt.
I almost never leave comments on RUclips but I just want to say how sorry I am to hear about you contracting cancer. Both my parents have had to fight cancer and they made it through. Stay strong and be sure to preserve your energy to use it where needed the most. Love your videos! ❤
Hey Steve. Sorry to hear about what you're going through right now. Just know that there are thousands of us out there keeping you in out thoughts and prayers and we will all be pulling for you! You got this!
As a father who has watched his daughter go through chemo I feel for you mate. I really do. All the best for a speedy recovery
Keep Strong!!
Just found out my cousins 4yr old had lost his eye sight from a cancer behind his eye.
Thanks for the upload!
man, sorry to hear about your diagnosis. prayers to you man. you have been an inspiration for me to repair things instead of throwing them away. I really enjoy watching all of your content. I pray you get better.
Hi Steve, I hope you resolve your health problem as soon as possible and I admire your strength of mind which shines through in your video. Your videos caught my attention for your clear and simple way of approaching repairs and have become a pleasant habit for me. I wish you best of luck.
You got this! My mom had lymphoma and beat it recently. Praying for you!
I'm sending you my prayers Steve. Stay strong you got this! We all favor your health over an upload schedule.
Stay strong, fight it.
You obviously love your hobby which comes across on camera. Your always a great watch.
Good luck with everything
That was back in 2012.. keep on fighting don’t give up you could beat it
You've got this brother! If you ever need anything or someone to talk to just reach out man. We love you!
I really appreciate your support. Thank you!
Best of luck with your treatment Steve, love you videos as they've pushed me to keep learning micro-soldering, even when I failed many times.
I found you and your channel some time ago, because I like to fix stuff and you seems to do, too. I was very sad to hear about you current health issues. I wish you all the best and fast recovery.
You got that.
Steve, I would first like to say you have been an inspiration to many. Love watching you videos as I fix medical equipment for a living and love playing retro video games. My prayers go out to you, but thanks for continuing to post your videos.
You got this Steve, you will make full recovery! Been watching your videos for years already, thank you for all the amazing content you've been giving us!

Hi Steve, thank you very much for everything you do. Our thoughts and prayers for you and your family so you make a speedy recovery.
