I have to say that, Merran and I join in with Charles Wesley's incredulity, when we ask, Can it be that we'll get to be with our Lord face to face in the days to come?!?! I'm just shocked that the Lord has made me His! When I look back at my youth it seems unthinkable and impossible that I should become a Christian and be His, and He be min, and yet here we are. Thank you Lord!
The words to the fourth verse are my testimony. When I was 15 years old, without parental guidance guidance, I lived in NYC, I was fast bound in sin, and nature’s night. Thine eye diffused a quick'ning ray, I woke, the dungeon flamed with light; My chains fell off, my heart was free; I rose, went forth and followed Thee. Praise God, I am saved, and live my life according to God’s word. Long my imprisoned spirit lay Fast bound in sin and nature's night; Thine eye diffused a quick'ning ray, I woke, the dungeon flamed with light; My chains fell off, my heart was free; I rose, went forth and followed Thee.
Amazing Lee. Me too at about 17. I did what I could get away with. Without regard to anyone else. Till the love of Christ captured me, and compelled me to repent and trust in him. Bless ya Lee! - Hadyn
@@dawnmichelle4403 Yep it's wonderful. It makes me think of the Apostle Paul and His letters to the Churches. There's no way he could have known just how far those letters would have gone and who would have seen them. Even when he was in prison. You'd think prison would hamper what Paul was doing, but as we know God uses all things for good, and so millions upon millions of Men and Women are blessed by letters written in a prison about two thousand years ago. What a God we have who gives us to one another as the body of Christ, not only the Church at present, but those who have gone before, all under His Lordship.
I first heard this Charles Wesley hymn sixty-eight years ago, I was 12 years old was then. But this is the best duo rendition that I’ve heard thus far. All the stanzas speak to our hearts. I especially like the 4th, “Long my imprisoned spirit lay Fast bound in sin and nature's night; Thine eye diffused a quick'ning ray, I woke, the dungeon flamed with light; My chains fell off, my heart was free; I rose, went forth and followed Thee.” Thank you Lord!!!
Thank you Lee, I'm glad it's a blessing. Just a few days ago, I hear a wonderful message by Tim Keller, where he quoted this exact verse, so I just thought I'd share it with you. Here's the link. I hope it's a blessing brother! The sermon is entitled, 'The Gospel Shaped Life.' ruclips.net/video/-mu_CLg2Nfo/видео.html
This is my favorite hymn! "And Can It Be"....those words aptly describe what every Christian heart should say about being saved. The verse about being in the dungeon perfectly describes the day I got saved. "Thine eye diffused a quickening ray.....my chains fell off....I rose went forth and followed thee'. That was 47 years ago and I remember it so clearly. Thank you for doing a beautiful job with this hymn. Most people sing it way too slowly. It is a triumphant song not a funeral durge! I look forward to more of Charles Wesley hymns. Blessings!
Bless ya Ellie. Yes for me, it was 22 years ago. He called me from my prison cell of self worship, and set me free! I'm so glad this rendition is a blessing! - Hadyn
A marvelous classic that will never, ever become old but fresh & real! Our "founding fathers" gave us absolute truths in verse to ground our faith! Thank You Lord for the members of Your body that have & are announcing Your truths in song/ hymns for our joy/enjoyment!
Hi Nicola, what festival? I'm not booked at any festival in June. Though if there is one I can be a part of I'm all ears. Also thanks for listening! Bless ya - Hadyn
I'm so glad it's a blessing Jacky. I share the shock the hymn writer shows, with this one "And can it be" that even I should gain from Christ's death and resurrection? Given the sin I see in my own heart and deeds. It's shocking and a scandal, and a gift beyond comparison. - Hadyn
Hi Hadyn, been listening to many vids of yours on RUclips. Love your voice, especially in the high tones. Thank you so much for the evangelising and joy. This hymn is touching me in Asia.
Thank - you so much Siew, I'm so glad these songs are a blessing! What a gift to be one body in Christ all over the world. Thanks for your encouragement. - Hadyn

@@larsmeier7951 Vielen Dank Lars. Ich bin so froh zu hören, dass es ein Segen ist. Es ist so gut, dass wir eine Familie sind. Jesus verbindet uns! Ich freue mich darauf, Sie im Himmel zu treffen.
Missing verse - Still the small inward voice I hear That whispers all my sins forgiven. Still the atoning blood is near That keeps me clean, and fit for heaven. I feel the life His wounds impart, I feel my Saviour in my heart. This is verse 5 of 6. Verse 6 being - No condemnation …

Hahaha, you're very welcome Jacky! The rest of the cat chorus are disappointed you've left their ranks 🐈🐈🐈🐈🐈. Seriously though, thanks so much for listening and I'm so glad it was a blessing.

This is the best way to praise God, congregational hymns from the heart in spirit snd truth.
Yeah, we're designed to praise the Lord together.
Sung this in church this morning for first time in ages. I’ve been having goosebumps all day thinking about it ❤
This old Hymn, has such amazing words. I think when we're home with The Lord, we'll be saying the same thing. "Can it be?" Bless ya James!
This is my all-time favorite hymn, and it's not often I hear a rendition that does it justice. This does! Love it so much! 💕
Thanks so much for the words of encouragement Dawn! I'm glad it's a blessing. Charles Wesley is a real gift to the Church.

We have so much to be thankful for. What a joy it is to be part of one body in Christ, and "individually members of one another" as Paul puts it.

I love this hymn! It's lovely to hear a mellow guitar/solo voice version. Well done HL!
