My aunt and uncle invited me back in the summer of 1991 (I am 48 now) to join them on their 42' SV Vagabond Drogheda (looked like a pirate ship!). We sailed and motored some from San Juan PR to the Virgin Islands and then on to the British Virgin Islands. It was a game changer! Now as an adult I have been blessed to visit with friends and introduce this lifestyle to my husband! My hubs has his captains license and we go in groups and take catamarans all over. Amazing memories! Just know that you guys are changing lives allowing these kids to do this with you!! Please do this again for some fortunate kids! Kudos to team Sailing Zatara! Ya'll are amazing!
From what I've read, while catamarans don't sink often, the life raft is more for if your boat catches fire which would force you to abandon ship. And, while you do have your tender/dinghy, it never hurts to have a backup for your backup for a "holy-crud", worst case scenario.
And even if a cat capsized , upside down it is more stable...the mast acts as keel. If there are are air pockets, survivability is possible. Worst-case, a life raft is viable.
Well I'm 56 and had heart surgery a year ago Feb 1st. And this is really a bucket list top for me. I am on day 2 of binge watching as many episodes as I can. It is so addicting to watch. Loving it.
This brought back memories. I had the opportunity to visit Petra while I was in the Navy back in the early 90s. Incredible place to visit. Glad you were able to make the visit. Looking forward to your Israel excursions.
I have a 12.5 yr old granddaughter whom loves boating (started on my lap at 4 yrs old while I captained our 45' motor yacht up the ICW in FL). She spent a month with us, without parents, and no homesickness. Adventure is the name of life! You decide to have young guests again, I can give her a BIG recommendation! Yes, I am Mimi and very partial ;) . Keep the adventures going!
I truly hope that Zatara's guests realize they are on an epic trip to places many have never been to and they may never get back to. You can tell Keith and Renee are very outgoing as hosts and they do a great job. I think you should do a follow-up video with the guests that were on the boat. They may be a little young and lived sheltered lives, but I know 90 days from now most will miss the Zatara boat and crew! Happy Thanksgiving to the Zatara crew!
If the Z crew ever want to do the same thing again, but next time with grown ups as crew, I’d be up for that. I’m same age as Keith, but in my head I’m still 23, it’s just the shell that gives the game away.
I love that Adri's family decided that since she was going to be with you in the Red Sea they would also fly over (all TEN of them) and experience it. I love, too, that it allowed her parents to meet her as she left Zatara but at the same time meet the Whitakers and the others of the Teen Crew. How special for all involved.
I've been with you guys since the beginning, for being a father there is no greater price than doing what you like and being around your family with happiness and transmitting your experience to people. Congrats guys.

As a 23 year old that has been through the "normal" trials of life with getting my college education I'd love to experience this and have always wanted to despite my fear of big open bodies of water. This is a blissful experience and culturally enlightening time that not many get to engage or even comprehend. Keep doing your thing, you entertain even the fast paced college kids.

I love following your travels. Thank you for sharing your experiences around the world and encouraging all of us to understand that we are all one. I spent two years traveling around the world from 2006 to 2008 and it was the best and most profound experience of my life. One of my favorite places to relax was near Nuwieba at a place called Sawa Camp. I'll be traveling to Israel early next year too. I hope other Americans will watch and open their hearts and minds to our wonderful world. Keep adventuring!
Hi there Sailing Zatara! I want to first thank you all so much for the inspiration you are bringing to my life and to the lives of so many others :) I started following along at episode 27, and I have been hooked on your channel ever since (although this is my first time commenting)! I wanted so badly to make a video application and have the possible opportunity to sail with your family this past fall, but due to a study abroad program I was about to start, I wasn’t able to. As a (motor) boater for my entire life and a sailer since age 11, my heart is pulled closer and closer to you guys and your lifestyle with each video. I am wondering if it’s in your plans to do another adventure like this again in the future with more extra crew? I would absolutely love to apply next time :) Thank you again for the path you are paving for so many people who look up to you, and I wish you all the best!
When I saw you struggling to put your emergency life raft away where you keep it stored, I think you are missing the boat. Emergency life rafts need to be stored where they can be readily deployed if the unfortunate need arises. I'm sure you can find the place to store it above deck, using an automatic release device so you have it, if necessary. Also, when you need a life raft you and your family could have other issues going on that could limit your ability to get it out from your current storage location.
Agree 100%. The liferaft needs to able to be quickly deployed in all emergencies, including a fire. I would for sure figure out a way to keep it on deck somewhere. There are several rail mounting options I would look at if it were me.
Those that left early may have gained the most, time will tell. they all had an experience of a lifetime and will likely be drawn to return to this time in their life regardless of their duration.100% success for all. Congratulations to everyone!!!
My wife and I sailed up the Gulf of Aqaba along the Egyptian coast to Aqaba 3 times between 2007 and 2010 on our Yacht Sybaris. We loved it. Ayla Marina didn't exist then, but we were lucky enough to get space in the Royal Yacht Club of Jordan right in the centre of Aqaba. Jordan is fantastic, and as you said Petra and Wadi Rum are places you really have to visit. We also enjoyed the Egyptian Sinai coast and back then it was possible to stop in Dahab, Nuweba, and Taba. In Taba it was also possible to check in and out of Egypt. Tiran island belonged to Egypt then and was a great anchorage and stopping point on the way up the gulf. You didn't mention your checkout from Saudi in Duba. Will that come on an upcoming video? Regarding liferafts I think the only unsinkable boat is the Boston Whaler (and I guess copies of it also with Styrofoam in the hulls). Like some other comments here, there is also the worst-case scenario of a fire on board to think of. When the "s**t hits the fan" you want to make sure the liferaft is extremely accessible and easy to deploy because there will because in stress and panic things are not as easy as on a calm day in a marina. Keep posting them good videos.
Our family lives in Uganda and we just found your channel and LOVE IT!!!! Love that you guys made the choice to do this. Thank you for posting and sharing this journey. It is so neat to watch. Blessings.
i love the spirit you guys have , and I've been following sailing zatara for a while , but let me clarify something , first am from Egyptian roots . i understand that sailing in Egypt is strict , and expensive for a small boat , and their is areas where your boat isn`t allowed, but you have to understand that because of Suez canal in Egyptian water , it fall on Egypt to make sure all the ships that pass through doesn`t present any danger to the countries around , and its Egypt responsibility to protect and secure this pass with it navy , also this area in the red sea between Oman ,Egypt and isreal , have witnessed 6 wars in the last 80 years , WW 2 will make it 7 , so there is no communications between this country that share the red sea , except Egypt and Sudia Arabia , plus its not common for a ship from USA to be sailing in this side of the world , not that its not safe , i live in the states and i already can tell you that you guys in the safest part of the world , anyway , if i ever got a boat , its in you guys , and thanks for sharing this beautiful trips with the rest of us
I think you lived for far too long in US my friend. Israel is talking with Egypt as well as Jordan (there are piece agreements ) and there are also communication with Saudi on certain levels especially when sailing security issues demand it. There is no war situation since 1978 and you can even say 1973, between these countries.
@@dadararadadarara i heard about that , i thought its regarding the two islands , not the Suez canal , all what they spoke about is not arming this two islands now that they are outside the no man zone with missiles that can present a war threat to other countries on the regen , 2nd the war is never Ended ,there is lands that lost and blood that covered this sand for 31 years ( the war allegedly ended 1979 ) , and there is Palestine and this war will never end until its a country with boarders and the safety of its people guaranteed
Honestly so jealous of the experience that everyone got to have staying on the boat. It looked like so much fun and I seriously admire the sacrifices that Sailing Zatara would have to make like space, money, cooking more food! Seriously awesome
Hi! I’m Maya and I’m 21 years old. I’ve been watching your videos for years now. I wanted to say thank you because you inspired me to get a yacht license :) My dream is to join you guys to sail! Love you guys!
Been a fan for a few years but I must admit I really have enjoyed the videos with the new teen guests. In fact I just couldn't wait for Thursdays to come around to see your latest episode. All the kids just seemed really great and got along well from our perspective. Your children were great hosts also. It was fun watching the new teens out of their normal elements. So great for your guys to take this on. Hope you do again in the future. You've given them an experience they will never forget.
These kids don't understand that the rest of their lives are going to be so busy that opportunities like this may only come along once in a lifetime. I hope those that left early due to being homesick don't regret their decisions years from now.
We’ve been following your channel for years now and love your sense of adventure especially with your children and now the teens. Thank you for such great advice and entertainment. As for the life raft when you mentioned that catamarans don’t sink is not always true. I have a cousin who sails mostly around the Caribbean and the hit something and their boat sank and needed to deploy their raft. The other recommendation we have always heard is never step down into your life raft. Always wait and step up. Better to stay on your vessel as long as possible before getting into your raft.
Your Sailor Teen Temp Crew have been a LOT of fun to watch. We only watched the tiny highlights reel of their Z Experience, but we certainly got the sense of it, esp. b/c they gave us personal reflections. Thanks Z-Crew for this brave social/sailing/travel experiment!
Zatara Crew, well done! The time and effort put in to have your guests was outstanding. The whole concept of inviting young adults to have a taste of boating life was and is EPIC! I sincerely hope you continue with your "homemade project." Hay you need a name for this "project." PROJECT MOXIE as an example. I enjoyed these episodes a great deal and look forward to more Zatara. Be happy, be safe
I can't believe that was only 23 minutes or so....soooooo much happened, what a fantastic video, and what a stellar group of young people 🤗🤗. I have no doubt that this whole adventure included the heck of a lot of hard work, (much by Mama Renee I suspect...) but my word, what a fantastic reward...Well done Zataras, I am struggling to think of a more worthwhile project you could have undertaken. 5 stars, brilliant xx 👍👍👏👏👏
The fortitude, courage and appreciation of life, of the (average) younger generation never ceases to scare the shit out of me. There is such an obvious difference between home-schooled kids and the guests. Keep up the great work boat parents! These guest kids get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and a couple of them bail? Would previous generations have been so oblivious? IMO no. I fear for the future of society.
I think the 2nd departure was pre-planned but I hear you. The first kid was a wimp and pretty much sent in a fake video to get picked. He was no way the person he portrayed and needed to go back to plant his face in mommy’s booby.
Inviting young adults to join you was an epic gift for the visitors and your children. I commented the parents of the visitors to allow their children to experience the adventure.
Zatara family, so nice to follow your journeys!! thanks for sharing. i enjoy it a lot. life raft is handy when the boat is on fire..!! you will be thanking the lord above that you have one!! i pray you never need it. keep it in shape though. take care and enjoy!
Glad to see that everyone had a good time and saw things that they might never get the chance to see or do, Wishing everyone on the Z crew a Happy Thanksgiving
The only reason to leave the cat and use your life raft would be fire. Highly unlikely but better to be prepared, mind you storing your jerry cans next to the life raft just help speed up the fire process LOL.
Keith, so your cat can’t sink? As far as I know, Titanic was also unsinkable, until it sank… 😉 The life raft could also be quite useful in case of a fire out of control on board. But it must be easily accessible! I think it would be good to find another place to store it. Safety is important, and after watching your videos for a very long time, I know that you don’t gamble with safety onboard. That said, I was a bit surprised that so much of the important safety equipment onboard was “expired”. Good to know it’s fixed now! 👍 Have a great and safe trip! 🤞😁
My husband and I started in Rome on Nov 1 and then on to Rhodes, Livorno, Naples, Istanbul, and then in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, an just finished in Jordan. Petra was awesome. 100% ..would suck to realize you need one and don’t have one…welp, Keith, I’m sure you’d be fine…but what about your fam???
Ethan is adorable!!!!! I love his storytelling about Keith!!
To Sailing Zatara cast and crew, to all Americans, our Military who give so much to protect our Freedom, Happy Thanksgiving to one and all, from your eternal sister in Christ somewhere near Seattle.
We have so much to be thankful for. 👍
⚘ 🙏 ❤ 🙏 ⚘
Fire is the main issue on boats. Interesting the places you guys end up at, definitely not the beaten path.
Happy Thanksgiving to all USA Zatara followers and Zatara crew. Cheers!
Looks like you got two young people hooked for life on sailing. Good job team Zatara!
From what I've read, while catamarans don't sink often, the life raft is more for if your boat catches fire which would force you to abandon ship. And, while you do have your tender/dinghy, it never hurts to have a backup for your backup for a "holy-crud", worst case scenario.
This was my thought as well.
Now this is a GREAT idea. Would love to see a follow up from all of them after they leave (except the fist kid who wimped out).
We love this adventure you're on. It's so amazing to follow along with yall. Can't wait to see Isreal.
A rather nice family, so rare to see today. If there were more good parenting like this the world would be a better place. Well done Keith and all
If the Z crew ever want to do the same thing again, but next time with grown ups as crew, I’d be up for that. I’m same age as Keith, but in my head I’m still 23, it’s just the shell that gives the game away.
Same here!! Wonder how the Z crew feels about adopting a 50yo hvac tech?? I’m handy!! And the wife might not mind…
That would be fun!!! I second that idea.
That would be amazing!
Outstanding you guys are so amazing god bless your journey
Yeaj i would be all over that
I love that Adri's family decided that since she was going to be with you in the Red Sea they would also fly over (all TEN of them) and experience it. I love, too, that it allowed her parents to meet her as she left Zatara but at the same time meet the Whitakers and the others of the Teen Crew. How special for all involved.
One of the wonderful things you do, which normally people can't, is your home is where you are. I like you guys.
I've been with you guys since the beginning, for being a father there is no greater price than doing what you like and being around your family with happiness and transmitting your experience to people. Congrats guys.
what a wonderful chance you gave this young people to get to experiance this kind of lifestyle….sure they all are inspired…and the ones that left earlier will regret all their life that they did not stay longer
Same I started watching Finn’s channel then came here and wanna do their summer month but I’m 24 and they do 18-22
Gotta tell you:
'Been watching your fam now for some time. My service dog, a 2yo border collie (this mo) comes running and starts barking to th moon and back Every EVERY TIME your theme song starts.
I like th show too 👍👍🇺🇸
You def need to invite others on the boat annually. Its good for them its good for your kids. its good viewing.
you gave the gift of a lifetime and 2 couldnt see that. they will forever regret.
This channel is underrated !
Y’all are awesome to offer these experiences to those kids!
It is so nice to that some of the kids really appreciated you unbelievable hospitality and generosity.
You family is amazing, delightful and so happy to share the bounty you have been blessed with.
My BFF has beautiful home on the coast of Brittany. They say their biggest joy comes in the sharing. You are the same way. Such respect for all of you ❤❤
The Guest Kids were Great. Really enjoyed watching their month-long adventure. Awesome job to The Crew.
I think it is great that you let the young people come on your boat for a month. I think they learn alot. So hats to the Zatara family. Keep up the great job. Sending my love 💓
*Kate throws rope at guys head*
Kate: "Good catch"
😂
If you want someone to catch something, throw it at the person's head. That's the easiest place to catch it.
@@larrylozuk cheers mate I got a brick here so will give it a go
Well guys it looks like it was pretty positive for everyone. Happy Thanksgiving to all of the Americans and safe travels for everyone. Keep the good stuff coming.
These videos are so enjoyable every wk, that it feels like I only watched 5mins..it just flies by. I can't get enough. I really enjoyed watching the guest. So kind of you to open your home to them. You just know they are all going to have more adventures and I will look out for them on RUclips. Thanks RUclips for allowing people to share their lives on this cool streaming platform, much appreciated 🙏😁
Hey there everyone, you all look healthy and happy. What a great adventure, it is a life altering journey in growth and perspectives. Your young crew your own and visitors, are awesome. Renee's ace and Keith's the best 👌 love your vlogs
seems that this month be the best time in their lives for now. So nice that you gave them the possibility to make this experience. And appreciate that you share with us. Have a good time! Best wishes from cold Germany.
Aww... so sad to see them go. It already feels like they are apart of the crew. Good luck to them... his is definetly a memory they will never forget
Sad to see another one leave hopefully the last three will stick it out to the end.
Keith and family,
I've enjoyed your videos since the beginning!!
I binge watch every single one over and over, including Teen Yacht Tuesday!
(I NEED MORE!)
I love your kids with their sense of adventure, learning, and awesome humor!
Your entire clan are fantastic to host these wonderful kids!
I'm glad you had a blast in Jordan and Israel.
Petra, Jerusalem, and spending the night in Wadi were beautiful.
I have relatives that live in both countries.
The people are absolutely wonderful.
I'm blessed to say I was finally able to take my wife
(as well as our 2 grown daughters) on our official 1st honeymoon in 2018,
after 28 yrs of marriage before she sadly passed from cancer in 2021.😥🙏🏼
Please live life everyday as if its your last.
🙏🏼🇺🇸🤙🙏🏼💖💖
May God bless you all,
and be safe in all your beautiful adventures!
Praying to see you out on the water someday.
You have made me miss the ocean once again,
just like when I was a kid, and my time in the USN in the 80s.
'Float Away'

If I could stay on a boat for a month…so awesome. No whining from me! Excellent vids and editing! Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃🍽🍁
It has been so c00l to see how the kids acclimated. I love to watch your Adventures and see all the places you go. Good bless you all.
It's great when I can be with you, ladies and gentlemen, to enjoy a trip with a very sensational way around this beautiful ocean
I'm a new subscriber and am still catching up on the videos. Thank you for sharing your journey and your knowledge. The interactions with the the new crew members have been inspirational. Your spirit of adventure and positive attitudes are amazing. Now I'm on to the next episode.
Yeah, was it next to jerry jugs of fuel? People said it was needed in case of fire. Better move it.
hatch in that compartment design by manufacturer of the vessel to be able to get in case of a capsize
Or they just hop in the dingy
Blessings.
Jordan is one of the locations on my bucketlist that I haven't seen yet, supercool to see you guys visit it!
i love the spirit you guys have , and I've been following sailing zatara for a while , but let me clarify something , first am from Egyptian roots . i understand that sailing in Egypt is strict , and expensive for a small boat , and their is areas where your boat isn`t allowed, but you have to understand that because of Suez canal in Egyptian water , it fall on Egypt to make sure all the ships that pass through doesn`t present any danger to the countries around , and its Egypt responsibility to protect and secure this pass with it navy , also this area in the red sea between Oman ,Egypt and isreal , have witnessed 6 wars in the last 80 years , WW 2 will make it 7 , so there is no communications between this country that share the red sea , except Egypt and Sudia Arabia ,
plus its not common for a ship from USA to be sailing in this side of the world , not that its not safe , i live in the states and i already can tell you that you guys in the safest part of the world ,
anyway , if i ever got a boat , its in you guys , and thanks for sharing this beautiful trips with the rest of us
I think you lived for far too long in US my friend.
@@dadararadadarara Peace is the word you are looking for
@@philipmackin1025 there is peace since 1973 i believe , on paper , but some countries keep breaking the treaties
Honestly so jealous of the experience that everyone got to have staying on the boat. It looked like so much fun and I seriously admire the sacrifices that Sailing Zatara would have to make like space, money, cooking more food! Seriously awesome
What a beautiful crew. Hope you never forget your travels there over holy ground (water). Enjoyed. Thank you.
Hi! I’m Maya and I’m 21 years old.
I’ve been watching your videos for years now.
I wanted to say thank you because you inspired me to get a yacht license :)
My dream is to join you guys to sail!
Love you guys!
Those kids have made memories which will lasts lifetime, there are some great dive sites up that part of the world
Been a fan for a few years but I must admit I really have enjoyed the videos with the new teen guests.
A catamaran would be the only sailboat i would ever own. Love those catamarans. So spacious and comfortable. Love your faith and your channel
Adri was a great addition to the Zatara crew , I think Y’all chose a great crew of kids.
The kids are amazing! What an incredible experience. So glad to see Kate so happy. The girls were incredible.
Such a good group of young people. Thanks for the window into your world!
Awesome young people... how fun - it looks like this was a successful endeavor and I'm sure the kids loved sharing their unique life!
IMO no. I fear for the future of society.
sure. bad time to get old and still aware enough to see those things coming... ?
I think the 2nd departure was pre-planned but I hear you. The first kid was a wimp and pretty much sent in a fake video to get picked. He was no way the person he portrayed and needed to go back to plant his face in mommy’s booby.
@@DanielC__Ahh.. my apologies to the second guy if pre-planned.. I appreciate the reply! Happy voyaging!
I love your family, thanks for sharing your story! Great opportunity for your teen guests.
Inviting young adults to join you was an epic gift for the visitors and your children. I commented the parents of the visitors to allow their children to experience the adventure.
All the kids are awesome! I love how grateful they are for this experience. Happy Thanksgiving Zatara crew!
Life changing experience for this young crew!
Love Watching Your Video's, Glad I found your channel !! :)
These kids must have lovely families to miss so much! You wouldnt ever get me off zatara lol !!!
I wish I was Josh Brolin, so fortunate of him to get a pics with you all. 😃
My husband and I started in Rome on Nov 1 and then on to Rhodes, Livorno, Naples, Istanbul, and then in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, an just finished in Jordan. Petra was awesome. We are now in Cairo Egypt and Aswan and the next and last stop will be Luxor. We’ll fly out of Cairo to head back home in CA.
Deck the halls with boughs of holly. Tis the Season! Loved your trips (with the kids) For all of us an experience to see different people, places and culture as we sail along too. Thanks and Merry Christmas 2022.
Great young adults.. kids to some and young at heart adults to some youngsters with more years... Everyone seems like they get along.. being on a boat on an adventure makes it easier...
Loved the way Ethan signed off. LOL 😂
This was a beautiful episode. I also loved the music selection. Israel is a beautiful country. I would love to visit some of the other surrounding middle eastern countries one day too.
Oh wow. That you have actually have been there. So amazing.
I love your hair Reneè. Beautiful! Thank you for respecting each place you visit. Surely sets a very good example.❤️
Life rafts are not just for water and sinking their main safety feature is giving you sanctuary away from the boat in the event of fire. Cheers DB
