I think people forget that two of these are a just software program. Regardless this is all selective on what we each perceive a "good guitar sound" to be. I actually like the Amplitube 5 over the other two in this comparison. The brand new Mesa Boogie 2 pack that A5 released was tested and certified from the engineers of Mesa Boogie so what's that tell you? Are those guys not correct, they make the amps? Axe-FX II is very good but to me "too clean", the pedal is really good but A5 seems more real as an amp rig would be because not every Marshall JCM800 sounds the same. Mesa Mark V has different feel depending on so many variables. Not every amp is going to sound the same on every brand. Again, it's selective on what we each think is a good , real sound. Amplitube 5 can be tweaked infinitely just like the others. Just play and have fun!
All these comparisons are relative to what speaker system you are driving through whether it be headphones, monitors, cabs, or floor amps. The size of the speaker on the floor amps determines whether or not the sound will sound thinner or thicker from what I find, but you can still produce some big sounds from plugins with good midis and monitors even at lower volumes.
Great demo! I believe due to the parameters and endless tweakability, as well as the being able to configure parallel amps, effects, and setting it all up internally for reamping (no need for a reamping box), makes the Axe Fx3 the winner, however at a cost.
I have AT5 and the Axe Fx ii (which would be close to the iii with the final firmware). I've been meaning to systematically compare them, but your video has saved me the effort - thanks! I thought the Axe sounded more real than AT5. The Vox was the best model for the AT5. The Plexi sounded way better on the Axe.
It is really easy to hear how much worse Helix is than the other two when you do the dynamic picking examples. Amplitube 5 and Axe 3 are extremely close, both excellent, whereas Helix is good but simply not in the same league as the other two. I will be buying Amplitube 5 I think!
Very interesting video !! In fact depending on the amp my preference for a modeler kept changing. So we need all plugins 😄. I would love to see you trying in a video the Soldano 100 (real vs Neural DSP vs Amplitube 5 vs HX Stomp vs AXE FX). Not to say this one is a winner and this one not but to appreciate how far and how good guitar amps modeling has become!!
I find the deluxe reverb goes to Amplitube imo hands down, the tweed they all sound bad , the Vox same almost with FX and Helix sounding identical on tweed and vox. The Marshall is hmm maybe helix and FX its apples to oranges in the 3 there to me. But the Soldano hands down imo goes to the FX it just sounds huge and open. ty for the comparison. I use amplitube and have helix but dont use it much.
Considering Amplitube 5 Max can be bought for $79 Fractal is normally $2000 I am very impressed with Amplitube 5 And on many of these clips I like the tone better than the Fractal Folks sometimes forget Fractal is top notch Pro gear -- but in essence its just software with a dedicated hardware computer --------where with Amplitube its still software but you use your own computer. Not surprised to find I liked Line 6 the least Something about the Line 6 stuff has always had this weird overtone I have never liked going back thru POD, HD500, Helix, etc... Taking everything into consideration -- price, tone, editing ease, portability, etc.. AMPLITUBE is the winner for me.
Despite Axe sounding more "real" to me in most cases, just blown away imagining how good they'll all sound in a song with the right mix. Amplitude 5 Basic ($99) vs Axe FX III ($2299). Is Axe FX III really worth the additional $2000? (Not to mention greater complexity and physical space) Not a rhetorical question, actually trying to decide for myself and would love some advice 😂
@@quitegenius In terms of sound quality, some hotone ampero (and perhaps even a valeton gp200) would be suitable for a concert, listeners are unlikely to hear the difference, lol it turns out that we pay not for sound quality, but for other things
@@LotmineRuyou have to remember this is through RUclips. And if you can hear it on RUclips, you can definitely hear it in person. In gigs these differences will be further exaggerated simply because the sound is so big (in some ways, there’s no escaping it).
so.... what are your thoughts? I guess in feel and guitar interaction, response etc. Great video and made me clearly see why I've come around full circle thru all the hardware modelers and ended back to a badass low latency setup and Amplitude. lol.
hx stomp is good at simulating marhsall's,but its way to bright when it comes to fender. IMO Amplitube 5 is the greatest of those three. With some proper adjustment of the mic placement,Amplitube could match the character of both hx stomp and axe fx..But those 2 effects definitely could not match the character of Amplitube which has more dynamic range than the other 2
I'm very surprised by how bad amplitude sounded. The Fender Bassman being the worst. Also surprised by how good the hx stomp sounded compared to the Axe FX III, which sounded a bit too bright. I have to admit, I didn't listen with my monitor headphones, so I'll have to listen again not using my laptop's speakers. I wonder if my mind will change.
I really don't know why ppl are so amazed by these units. I wouldn't want to sound my guitar that lifeless, thin and artificial. Far from the real thing!
I had a real JCM800 and my friend has the Mesa's and these sound just as good if you know how to dial them in. Are they "100%" real, um no but the avg listener uses $50 ear buds so no one in the past 30yrs has really heard a full blown Marshall JCM stack or Rectifier because even the big name artists like Joe Satriani, Slash, Pertrucci are using software on their albums and small 12" combos live.
@@DVTOM I am not speaking for the listener. it is about me as a musician. I am quite aware that people in the audience cant even tell a line6 Spider from an plexi, but I would never ever replace my Engl Savage against one of those devices. It is a total diffenrent experience to lean against the sound and feel the tubes burn.
All three sound terrific, so it comes down to user interface. Fractal is the most powerful but has the steepest learning curve -- by far. Helix has an excellent user interface, both in computer form and pedal form. Amplitube is run by an annoying company, but it has the easiest user interface.
After trying to navigate IK's pricing, and being outright lied to, maybe not even on purpose because their pricing is so whacky, by a rep. on a forum, I would have to agree IK is a bit annoying lol

less talk, more sounds. Great comparison, thx folks!
After seeing this, I see that cab and mic combination is very important part. Amplitube’s plexi is very good.
hx stomp’s vox sound is fantastic

Yeah. They all sound great.
Most people think that louder = better
So please adjust the volume to the same
They all sound good, axe3 sounds more hifi to me (more clarity in the high end)
I love modeller comparison

AMPLITUBE is the winner for me.
Would be cool to see some comparison's of these amp sims vs the real amps too. Good video! 👍🏻

Different purposes. Axe Fx is basically a gigging rig.

Thanks for posting
Hx stomp sounds better to me

thanks brother

What IR have you used for the Stomp ?
Спасибо друг. AmpliTube 5 все же хуже звучит, но и стоит в разы дешевле:)
Wow, Stomp actually sounds better than Axe here.
amazing how tastes differ -- I found Amplitube best for most examples -- Helix fake and synthetic sounding to my ear like most all Line 6 stuff
crazy how close the hx stomp gets to the axe fx
especially considering the cpu in the stomp cost about 37 bucks lol to be fair the axe fx 3 cpu only cost about 70 bucks.
Sounds like Amplitube and HX are too compressed at the input whereas the axefx reacts to the input more amp like, more gooey if you will.
Just need an interface with lots of headroom like the axe I/o
I'm very surprised by how bad amplitude sounded. The Fender Bassman being the worst.

Amplitube has a sort of 3D quality that the others don't. Very impressive
Amplitube wins
Axe FX, no contest.
Amplitube sounds oldschoolish)
Wow Amplitube
To my ears, the Amplitude and AxeFX are very similar. The Helix is way too trebly.
the difference is negligible, let's be honest
Few people will hear the difference at a concert.
Amplitube every time, annoyingly!
I really don't know why ppl are so amazed by these units.
I wouldn't want to sound my guitar that lifeless, thin and artificial.
