I used the older Bose L1M2 with both the B1 and B2 bass systems and the Tonematch T1 I used the system on many hundreds of gigs, I cant tell you the amount of compliments from audience members AND other musicians on how great the system sounded. The T1 makes it easier by far but you have to have some eq-ing knowledge to get the most out of the system. The great thing about the Bose was I got to hear what my audience heard and the volume was almost exactly the same at the back of the venue as it was on the stage. If I was still gigging I wouldnt want to perform on anything else, that includes full conventional pa systems. Ive owned and performed on many different systems. Currently I have a set of 12in powered EV's and a Mackie Pro FX mixer for personal use.
I was heavily debating between both of these and ended up going with the 50s. In the end, I wanted to cut down on the total number of pieces I was carrying. And since it's such a close race sonically between these two, the edge in portability won out on the 50s for me.
This is why if I could do it again, I may have picked the 16s. For portability sake. I did however buys some new speakers lol...So I most likely will be saying bye bye to the bose
I have been playing out with a single Bose L1 Pro 16. I run it on "speech" setting for more mids and boost the bass, also they come ALIVE around 50% power.
@@EmmettFlo7 So I ran 2 and when they shove you off in the corner it is difficult to avoid feedback and the sound quality does not improve. This is just for the look imo. If I was going to run 2 I would go with EV 50 or even 30 since they don't have as much coverage I think the feedback issue would be there but to pro 16s too close together is pointless. Now if you are on a stage or somewhere you can space them out at least 10 feet then I think it works, however most gigs, mainly weddings, this is just not an option as they almost always shove you in the corner with limited space. For events up to 300 I feel ok with 1 bose pro 16 but groups of 150 it's perfect.
Very interesting. I've used the Bose L1s for a large wedding reception in an airplane hangar and the sound and coverage was good, especially for the "traditional" music I was using. In that case, the bride had a very specific playlist. She is a harpist and the Bose also works very well for harp amplification. Many speakers struggle with harp. On the other hand, I am an EV fanboy, and I still like the sound quality of EV speakers better than the Bose. I think EV was late to the stick speaker party because they took their time developing it to get it right, and I'll take EV over JBL or others any day.
I don't know about the Evolve but the Bose has an app which you select what make and type of microphone (or any instrument in fact) to get the correct settings. I'd imagine that has a bearing on the microphone sound.
Great video and very entertaining. I do wish you had played the same song on both speakers, but other than that, very good. You pointed out everything that is important to us as mobile DJs. I think we are in a good time as DJs, because (as people pointed out below) there are thousands of combinations available to us. We are not limited to a few brands and a few speakers. We can get 8"-15" tops combined with 12"-21" subs (four 21" in one cabinet by BassBoss), limited only by your budget or what you are willing to sacrifice. Some DJs drive to gigs in $80,000 Sprinter vans, while others use the family mini van. They both get you to the gig. The person driving the Sprinter has $80,000 less to spend on speakers. All these speakers will perform well in most conditions. They are all good, but some are great. However "great" is subjective. Use your ears to determine what's best and take a few other people with you when you are making the decision. Then buy the best you can reasonably afford or need, depending on where you perform and what you do as a DJ. Your guests don't get a side by side comparison. They only get to hear what you purchased.
I debated buying an LD systems maui 44 and the Bose L1 32, ultimately being able to buy the maui 44 on sale was the deciding factor. It's a beast and sounds amazing, but that base unit is super heavy. The proximity test with the microphone at least behind them worked well.

It started around the time of AirPods launching, but I feel like Bose has bit of a "been there, done that" image. They have superb, phenomenal products, but Evolves feel "new" and "fresh." I got a Bose 32 with sub 2 for my dj controller would you recommend red and white rca to 1/8 inch into aux? Or should I got 1/4 inch left and right into line 1-2 of Bose? Thank
I wonder if the mic test sounded better because we expect a person to come from more of a point source so it sounds odd to be distributed? Dunno, interesting test.
@@AaronStrawn EQing will not equal the EV point source sound which is very similar to QSC. On the other hand the non fatiguing mids are missing from the EV House Sound. Take your pick. I like the fact that the SUB2 has a separate gain control that EV lacks.
I wanted to get the Bose 32 (sounded great) but just seemed too flimsy for the price. Ended up with the Maui 44G2 which are great, but wish I could ante up the 10k for the RCF TT-515 over 808 combo. The evolve 50 are great; I have a pair but because the top height is not super tall they get blocked by the audience. This is a big venue. I’m about to place an order on the 50M and curious, I’ve had some people tel me to get two 30Ms vs 1 50M. Considering I just one thing for what I’m doing, would you say the 50M have significant headroom and throw advantage over the 30? I feel like those bigger speakers must hit the back of the room better.
@@AaronStrawn I got the 50M and it’s definitely the way to go. I’m a solo performer. It sounds much fuller in the low mids for one, and it also throws distance wise much further. The 30 drops off within like 20-30 feet where I feel like the 50 maintains a listenable volume for around 50 feet so you can have the volume 2-3 db lower easily.
Bose speakers is the Best! Micophone does it better all around the room! I've used one speaker for 300 people at a Graduation Party and it rocks! Make sure you hook up an extra one 18" subwoofers
Hello Aaron, I'm a fan of your channel and I love your videos. Except that today I am very disappointed with the result. First the test should have been done in a useful room for us. (like DJs use for parties). Spend more time on the particularities of the sound with the same songs for comparisons. The place for the test and the structure of your video is not helpful because between you and me, the number of seconds that separates when we go up or undo the set-up is much less important than deepening the tests of the music which would have could be done. Thanks for reading me !
Thanks for the feedback. For the space, I put them up on the stage and faced towards the wall cause I felt the acoustics were similar to venues. It was the only place I could get while I had that EV 50 too. Tbh bro, I try to be more entertaining than informative lol, which is why I had shot some of the footage you wanted, but cut it cause it bored me when I watched it. Thanks for watching though!
When djing a wedding dance we want the dance floor to be loud but not so loud in other parts of the venue so people can talk. So the fact that the Bose has such wide dispersion is good for speeches but not so great for the dance. Overall, I think the EV Evolve 50 are a much better option based on set up, and sound.
I agree. Don’t want to take over the whole venue for the people that just wanna hang. One thing I notice when using the Bose, people dance to the sides as well, it almost makes the dance floor bigger. And cause the sound isn’t harsh, it doesn’t feel like it takes over the venue. EVs are def an awesome speaker. They sounded great
@@AaronStrawn true, when you have the high quality sound it reduces the noise. Not that I have experience with that. I don’t DJ enough to justify upgrading from my $400 EV ZLX 12p to the $1800 EV evolve 50s so for now I’ll work with good enough
Hey Aaron, as always very insightful video. I have a set of the Evolve 50s, and also have a sub2 I use on occasion in conjunction with the EVs or with a pair of Turbosound ip 300s. All sound great. My question is why are you getting rid of the Bose 32s? I’m itching to get at least one of them, but I hate the fact that base is so susceptible to dust, spills etc in the real DJ world. I also think the EVs connection seems sturdier. I’m torn because I did hear the Bose 32s at a large outdoor pool party w sun 2 and the one speaker was plenty for the whole area. Please give me some insight as to why u are saying goodbye to them. Thanks and keep putting out great content 👍
If I could I would keep them. I bought a new system- RCF TT515s and 808s. To help with cost I am letting them go. It's a great system and I will miss the dispersion they do
Sold my 2 x Bose l1 pro 32s and sub 2’s a few weeks ago. Back to point source RCF 910s and subs. As nice as they look they’re not great. Subs drop off quickly too much high end bleed across my path DJing. Then there the drunk pole dancers 🙈
@@djcalmet I have 2 x thomann Pyrit 112a. Super little inexpensive sub that cranks. And 1 Pyrit 212a dual 12” sub on the way. These are monsters ! Had a pair I regrettably sold. 41kg so pretty heavy, but ideal to reinforce the 112s in bigger gigs. I’m. In the UK so our biggest venues hold 250 max. Most weddings and events 80-150 people. I’m also looking at a slim line too box (powered array style) like fbt Ventis 206a. Need to try one first tho.
At my local moose lodge I let a guy do an acoustic gig with pro32. Office people came out and said it’s soooo loud on other side of room BUT WHEN WE GOT INSIDE GIG ROOM he must have turned it down. Nope. That’s Bose. 😅 never touched volume
I’m starting out as a solo DJ this up coming month. In your opinion, do you think the Bose pro 32 is enough to handle a small wedding (around 100 guests) on its own? Is there a noticeable difference if you get 2 sub 2’s to go with one column?
You could definitely get away with (1) Pro 32 for 100 guest as long as the room isn’t huge. Many times people go by guest count; room size is a huge factor. You definitely need either a Sub 1 or Sub 2 per Pro 32. Almost zero low mid or bass from the tower.
I've def done that size with one. BUT 2 subs are the way to go with one stick. The only worry for you would be that you have no backup just in case something happens. Always keep that in mind. When I take just the one, I keep my Everse 8 or JBL MK2 with me as a backup
The Pro32 column can outperform one Sub2 so bringing two can get you more. I usually run two for a built in backup, but have done weddings with only one.
Aaron, maybe not your wheelhouse but do you see any significant reason to get a 50M over a 30M for a solo musician? I use guitar amp simulators and play blues music with a foot board thing in Florida so it’s mostly outdoor and open air places. Some are decent sized spaces. Don’t gotta be blasting loud but still. Should I just get the bigger one since I’ll cart it anyway, is the difference that great if the sub lows aren’t gonna be used much?
If you can handle the extra weight I'd go with the 50m. I'm a solo singer/guitar guy and love my 30m. I might have scaled up but I just can't handle lugging the 50m sub up and down my 3-story walkup. No complaints with my 30m but if you're mainly outside you're gonna want that extra oomph.

@@AaronStrawn thanks man. I know you have both and there’s legit not much info out there when it comes to musicians using them. My big curiosities come in how they compare versus each other. Do the bigger speakers of the 50 throw further? And do you need to have less volume to get similar volume to the 30? I also wonder if you hit the limiter on the 30 would you hit it the same spot on the 50 or would it be way louder before that happens?

I got a Bose 32 with sub 2 for my dj controller would you recommend red and white rca to 1/8 inch into aux? Or should I got 1/4 inch left and right into line 1-2 of Bose? Thank
Go xlr out of your controller to a TRS into channel 3 of the Bose
@@AaronStrawn thanks man! Y cable? Or just one of the channels left or right
For a 22’ x 40’ sanctuary which one would you recommend. 5 vocals a keyboard and electric drums
I'd say for that size of room and application, you'd want to get a more Pro PA. These columns are more for smaller spaces and mobile events
I wonder if the mic test sounded better because we expect a person to come from more of a point source so it sounds odd to be distributed? Dunno, interesting test.
Idk what it was. There was such a difference though. Maybe more eqing coulda got a better Bose sound
@@AaronStrawn EQing will not equal the EV point source sound which is very similar to QSC. On the other hand the non fatiguing mids are missing from the EV House Sound. Take your pick. I like the fact that the SUB2 has a separate gain control that EV lacks.
@@AaronStrawn calling Bose. Gonna see if they will revoke your membership 😂
(Says the guy who also owns evolve and pro32) JUST CALL ME SPEAKER WHORE
Do the EV 50's come with covers?
I don't think so
I wanted to get the Bose 32 (sounded great) but just seemed too flimsy for the price. Ended up with the Maui 44G2 which are great, but wish I could ante up the 10k for the RCF TT-515 over 808 combo.
The evolve 50 are great; I have a pair but because the top height is not super tall they get blocked by the audience. For a smaller system like this I would probably go Evox 8 instead if I did it over again.
Bro, I had the 515s/808s in my grasp but couldn’t muster the $10k….so close
@@AaronStrawntreat yo self! Lol. $10k is no joke! Will buy if/when prices come down!
@@AaronStrawn So true…luckily they have been hard to find in stock. I can’t control myself. Definitely not shipping that shit to my house…..probably would have to find a new place to live lol.
@@mickeygrrrouse Unfortunately RCF prices only go up unless you can find used or B-Stock. Maybe ProAudioStar will have some in a few years.
I was looking at the Maui 44 as well but looked heavy. Damn nice speaker though. I have a pair of Pro32’s and 4 - Sub2’s. Got a big school event on Friday hoping I have enough speaker.
I rock the boss with my qsc ks118 for me it sounds way better like that than using sub 2.
For me the bose controller looks to be in the spill danger zone .. the lady requested taylor swift just spilled her iced coffee with that special something mixed in right on top of your bose controller and it pooled inside up to the buttons.. thanks grandma
lmao
Cool. 2 completely different songs.
exactly. Waste of a video imo.
If you're a DJ, stay away from the 30m for parties. Its too quiet. I personally would rather have more headroom and dial back, so I'd go with the 50
@@AaronStrawn I got the 50M and it’s definitely the way to go. I’m a solo performer. It sounds much fuller in the low mids for one, and it also throws distance wise much further. The 30 drops off within like 20-30 feet where I feel like the 50 maintains a listenable volume for around 50 feet so you can have the volume 2-3 db lower easily.
Hey brother what table is that ? Can you provide a link thanks
Fastset DJ Table. Got mine from Sweetwater
Bose 32 with an F1 sub. That is what I call a system.
Dude ! I just got an F1 812 w Subwoofer .... It's incredible.!
@@IAmKAZMO I own 2 F1 812 tops and subs. Lol.
Bose speakers is the Best! Micophone does it better all around the room! I've used one speaker for 300 people at a Graduation Party and it rocks! Make sure you hook up an extra one 18" subwoofers
How do you compensate the sub woofer timing and phase issues?
You should pay the same track on both systems, so we can compare
Next time
Hello Aaron,
I'm a fan of your channel and I love your videos.
At a wedding, I want to blow the roof off the place
Lol. I think all columns sacrifice sound for portability
What subs are you using with them? I have rcf910a with elx200 12sp

I’m. In the UK so our biggest venues hold 250 max.
Most weddings and events 80-150 people.
I’m also looking at a slim line too box (powered array style) like fbt Ventis 206a. Need to try one first tho.

@@jonathanberube5056 thank you for the help!
Two EV50 are not much more than the price of 1 Bose, and a pair of RCF J8 are cheaper yet. Why pay the Bose tax when you're just starting out?
Ok , question - I did buy the Bose l1 32 with sub 2 , can I run ev evolve 50 on other side ? Basically 1 of each ?
Sure! Just use a mixer
I am using both Saturday - 1 on each side . Just could not afford another L132 and sub 2 . Thanks man - you sold me both lol .
But ones got a mixer the other dont
That is true
Why didn’t you of all people know, you should have played the same song on both systems to compare, i know YOU know better Aaron , your cool but
First time watching and that was my first thought as soon as he "compared" the Bose. 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️😂
Rick Webb what happened bro?
He's better lookin than me
Aaron, maybe not your wheelhouse but do you see any significant reason to get a 50M over a 30M for a solo musician? I use guitar amp simulators and play blues music with a foot board thing in Florida so it’s mostly outdoor and open air places. Some are decent sized spaces. Don’t gotta be blasting loud but still. Should I just get the bigger one since I’ll cart it anyway, is the difference that great if the sub lows aren’t gonna be used much?
If you're doing outdoor, I'd go with the 50. I think you'd rather have extra headroom then run out.
Is this what life is about? How about sticking to one unit and planning a damn trip to Disney World for your kids? Shit man, they're not going to stay kidsl forever.
I gave my kids the option, they told me to buy speakers
@@AaronStrawn thats hilarious, too bad theyre going to hate you later on, I'd say about 17 when its too late to make that trip or want to go anywhere with you on vacation. Remember Cats in the Cradle by Harry Chapin.
I have both. The 50s sound like toys compared to the 32s. I use the EVs 70% of the time though. The Bose are not needed for medium to small weddings.
Have you tried one Bose with 2 sub 2s? I’ve done this for 2 mid sized weddings and it was perfect
@@AaronStrawn No, I gotta have 2 speakers or I feel weird.

you should do test with more music genres. All column speakers I tested sounds really terrible with rock music in comparsion with classsic sub and top speaker
I always encourage to listen to them in person. It's tough to really judge a speaker through YTs compression
You can’t compare the EV and the bose. Sound quality way better with Bose but only for interior.
But...I did do that lol
use the same song for the music comparison...dude...like that's the entire point

You need to play the same song so our speakers can hear the difference doing a side by side using different songs is almost pointless.

If you were assuming I was listening on a phone. I am using Shape 50s. But let's say your listener was on a phone.
