I once did a wedding where I had to use the house speakers. They were awful. Dreadful in fact. Little bass and very poor tops. Yet the guests and bride/groom had the best time. I realised in that moment, that our obsession with speakers, brand, size, colour, shape etc. is another of the things that we convince ourselves make a difference. Don't get me wrong, good speakers are important, but not nearly as much as we think. I carry a pair of RCF Evox 8's and I think they are great. The punters cannot tell the difference so I do not obsess over them. If they were to fail, I think I would go for the 50's because they are easy to set up and flexible in wedding situations.

I just turned 49 years old and I'm in pretty good shape. I run a pair of QSC K10.2 and now a pair of KS118 (previously one). It's easier to have a bigger, scalable system cover a small event with ease than a smaller system cover a bigger event under strain, so I decided to go with tops/subs that could handle anything I would need, large to small. I completely agree on the versatility of tops/subs. You can run tops only (pretty much never, but possible), one sub, two split subs, two clustered subs, two cardioid subs, so lots of options. Redundancy is important too. If there's a failure on a column array, the whole thing is gone. Also, the footprint of the tops/subs is only a little bit bigger than the columns, depending on the deployment. Yes, at 100 lbs each, the subs are heavy, but they're heavy enough I'm mindful to NOT lift them. They tilt and roll 98% of the time, so I may actually do less lifting than if I had a lighter sub I felt I could "handle". The clean headroom and low extension are wonderful and well worth the extra weight IMO. Love your videos and that's a sweet dog! The white speakers are gorgeous.
One day, Donny, you will leave the 1970's technology behind - which is what point source speakers are! Like I say, over 15 years now with column line array speakers and I'll NEVER go pack to point source again!
@@williamthesoundguybalestri1745 I do have an LD Maui 28 G2 and I really enjoy it. It gets loud and goes really low. Right now I use it for ceremonies, but it would also be perfect for some smaller venues I frequent. I do hope to add a second at some point. I do really love it. But, I wouldn't use them for a 4000 sq ft room and expect them to handle the deepest lows in EDM with appropriate volume and clarity and headroom to spare. What's the largest room you play with your column array and what type stuff do you play? I do lots of large barn type venues or indoor venues about the same size.
@@donnycollins1797 Hi Donny. I have used a pair of IP3000 for gigs with a 13 piece band! I think it was about 200 people. No problem! I will be getting (finally) my second pair of IP3000 today or tomorrow! So my inventory now includes a pair of IP2000 and four IP3000. Not to mention my Turbosound 12 inch monitors which I really love!
I went thru the same decision process. At this point in my DJ career, I decided to try and make things easier on me to make it enjoyable. If DJing stops being enjoyable than I am out. In my city there are plenty of venues that have steps and no elevators. If I do subs, I have to bring roadies along with me. When I first got the Evolve, I was really impressed by the speed of the setup and breakdown. No roadie needed. Often only 1 trip from the car using a cart. While the system wasn't crazy loud, it did the trick. Truth be told most people are more into the tracks that you play rather than the sound of your system. But for me I had a need for more bass than the Evolve had so now I often bring a sub. I say often but not everytime. I did a gig at a senior citizen home, no sub needed. I also did a store opening gig, no sub needed with no dancing. So a system like the Evolve handles what 80% of what us mobile DJs do. Now for those who do high school parties or raves, you need 18's plus tops.
The evolve 50s hit the sweet spot. For bigger events, need bigger guns tho which is where the ELX comes in. I hope to EV puts out an evolve 70 or 100 with 15 and 18 inch woofers
@@lavishlifedjsProblem is it means effectively you need 2 PA systems. So if lets say you do a big gig on the Friday and on the Saturday you have a small gig you will have to offload and load a different PA for each night meaning twice the work, money and that's only if you are able to, as not working away from home. Unless you can get away with just bringing an extra sub for the bigger gig but line arrays possible haven't got the throw for larger events. It may have had a fault or been set up wrong but I did hear a twin bose line array system distorting heavily possible in an effort to be heard at a larger gig. A compromise for a smaller lighter PA might be something like a quality sound and powerful 8" or a 10" top with a 12" or 15" sub.
As a Mobile DJ who has seen the industry, and the size of my events evolve over the last 24 years, I will say that the Evolve 50 would be my choice over a 18" with 12" or 10" cabinet speaker combo. Being honest, 18" Subs are only needed for large Prom Dances. With my experience, like 97% of my events have between 50 guests and 175 guests. It's funny because when I started out deejaying I was doing a lot of 300 person + school dances, large Bar and Bat Mitzvahs with 200+ people attending, and most weddings 20+ years ago had many more attendees. Back then I was only using a pair of 15" passive JBL JRX Speakers, and no subwoofer at all and even those speakers handled those events fine. Of course my price point was a lot lower back then too.
I use one Evolve 30M for 99.8% of my gigs. I am a one man band playing keys, LH bass with a drum machine and a harmonizer. It is light, easy to carry, sounds great, sets up in a flash. It's not as beefy as the 50M, but works great. I have recently done some outside gigs with it. It didn't disappoint me and got many compliments on my sound. If I play a larger venue, I bring my EV ZLX 12Ps tops and my EKX 118SP 1300 watt sub. Since I have owned the 30M, I have not had to break out the big boys yet.
Just wanted to follow up on this one year later now that things are more normal after Covid. I now find myself doing fewer gigs and especially fewer weddings. I would say that before 80% of my gigs were weddings. This is where the Evolve 50, Evox and other similar systems really shine. The setup is much faster and it sounds good enough to cover the smaller dancefloor that we see at wedding venues. But now only 20% of my gigs are weddings. I am doing mostly parties. I did a few parties using the Evolve but I ended up adding a sub to it. Still it just didn't have that in your face loudness that a point source system has. Also just about all of my gigs this summer have been outdoors where an extra loud system is preferred. Luckily I have both types of systems but if the wedding bookings don't pick up, I have no real need for the Evolve. I hate to see it just sitting every week. I will probably sell it by the end of the year. Luckily the prices are way up on the Evolve systems.
It's simple math - if you only have X amount of money to spend, spend it on the gear that will help you get through more events - meaning the bigger ones. Then if you have more money to spend - get the gear that looks better and is easier to set up but can only be used on some of your events. One more element that gives the bigger speaker system the edge imo is the ability to raise your speakers higher which is crucial if you have a packed dance floor or if you need for the sound to travel a long distance. Thanks for a great and honest review !
Thanks for the vid. I like the clarity of the Evolve 50 top --not as boxy /dark/"midrangey"--at least in this video. I use the EV 50M as a gigging solo musician (guitar, vocal, looper for self-recorded hand percussion tracks) and love it--admittedly, a different application, but, as you say, it has a magical, dynamic sound. I'm very happy with it for the restaurant/bar gigs I do.
@@Nestico87 Yes, I have a handful of vids up on RUclips under my stage/project name: ruclips.net/channel/UC4v0_9HuXJiHgsDYlGWK4iw. They're just raw clips taken by my wife's iphone and mostly outdoors, so, bear that in mind. I know you didn't ask, but, FYI, EV also has the smaller version 30M, which I also own. I did one gig with it and went right out and bought the 50M. The 50M has more depth, volume and fuller sound. The 30M is punchier and can be a little more "in your face" but I found it was more prone to feedback at the volume level I needed. If I had to do it all over again, I would have just gotten the 50M from the get go. It isn't any harder to haul around and set up, and doesn't take up much more space, so, if you can afford it, I'd say get the 50M. Hope that helps.
I have a JBL EON715 15IN I literally bought 3 days ago... thinking to return it for 1 elx200 12p right now looking at your videos. Im a beginner dj... not completely beginner... been doing it for 22 years.. only now buying powered speakers... Just stopped inbetween, always took my dads cerwin vega's out for birthday parties....... but the sound I heard from those elx's in your video just changed my mind. Going to return the jbl and get the EV. Maybe one day I'll be able to afford those Evolves.. those are amazing in sound clarity Holy sh**!!!!! Thanks so much, your videos are 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 keep it up!!!!
Thank you for your channel. I have been enjoying your content. I've been running a variety of different point source tops and subs for years now. Every time I try to get on the Evolve column array band wagon it doest happen for me... I love the look of them & the ease of set up I really would love to own a set. The one thing that holds me back is that I've learned over the years you can always turn a big speaker down but theres only so much you can turn a small speaker up.... Maybe Ill get to own some columns one day 😁
I love my Evo 50s, I have alot of great compliments on the speakers I use in my shows.. But great video thanks for demonstrating those speakers, keep up the good work!
Pretty close until you need to cover a larger room with more people inside. Then the evolve simply gets lost. Definitely good for smaller venues with less people.
Great idea but the camera (microphone) should standing in the middle, between the two systems for a fair comparison. Now we getting all the highs and mids from evolve as it staring the camera but not from ELX. Cool video though and great systems as well, enjoy them. Thanks
Hi I'm from Durban South Africa. I love the comparison. Really surprised at the clarity and more open sound on the evolve. So I did an islamic wedding over the past weekend (12th of November 2022). I used the Yamaha mg due to my soundcraft ui being unavailable for that night. I noticed the elx200-12p and the ekx15p which I used actually had less detail and did not hav the clarity and crispness as using the soundcraft. I wasn't such a happy chap that night as the clarity I usually get was just not there no matter how I tried to tweak it. Just my suggestion, try a different mixer and see if it will improve the sound. I heard a performer at Suncoast casino singing on the evolve 50 and you're right it does not go very loud. However it did not have the fullness like the elx or ekx setup, it was set up on stage however so it was high up.
A different EQ setting for the ELX to match the system on the right (Evolve) might be the solution. The ELX's bottom end is too loose but that's fixable. Just roll the lower mids as well as the lows down a tad, you'd have the power and clarity without the rumble. I don't think it'd be perfect bc the cone surface areas aren't the same, but it should be close . . . oh you might give the highs a slight tweak too. Just my 2 cents, fwiw. And thank you for going through the trouble to do the video. It was helpful.
Great points, I ordered the Evolve 30… I think the biggest draw to the 30 and 50 is the onboard mixer. Makes things much easier to transport and setup.
Thanks Mark…As someone mentioned, Apples and Oranges but people are shopping everything and comparing across all brands and speaker types. This is just to illustrate the difference to those people. My Evolves will work for 90% of what I do and I love working with them. The ELXs will handle my larger events so that I don’t have to stress the Evolves too much.
I have the same exact setup but I have them the elx200 & 118sp in black. But I think I’m getting the evolves for my solo and small weddings (which are most of them) especially because I found one on sale. I’ll keep the big joints for my band and the Caribbean parties 🇯🇲 Thanks for the video!
I have the EV Ekx 15p. Love them. I see no point in buying a 10 or 12" when you can buy the 15" for almost the same price. I also tried the etx 15p but they sounded the same as the ekx but more expensive. 2 15" speakers and a sub is all you need for up to 5/600 people.
5/600 people? Really wish to believe this would work for me, but I have huge reservations. For my 600p gigs, I usually do 8 tops and very likely 3 twin driver subs. Granted there are not very genuine speakers going around in my country, but the thought of needing 1/4 of that equipment is quite exciting... if only I could get some assurances.
@@isaacsimbwa5444 I recently did a homecoming dance. Close to 800 kids. Had 2 15" EKx mids and 2 18" Etx subs per side. Sounded clean. I set my mids one at ear level and the other above ear level. It carries further that way. That works for me, but it's all preference to the djs liking.
Nice video - and yes, many people are probably debating this very issue as columns become more popular. I will note from experience, one of the biggest downfalls of the Evolve and other fixed-height column arrays is just that - their height is not adjustable. The EV ELX 12P can be raised up another 6"-12" over people's heads - which makes a HUGE difference when trying to get sound to the back of a room. This is where RCF with the EVOX, DB Tech with their ES series and FBT with their CS1000 got it right - tops are all height adjustable. I see far too many DJ's and live sound ops with speakers far too low, and in many cases, far too close. I would caution anyone to think long and hard before buying a fixed height column unless you have other means at a gig to raise it up.
Great comparison! I’m torn between the watts a QSC provides for the price and using a mackie for effects. I’m solo gigging with backing tracks . So many choices!
the bass isn't as deep on the smaller system, but it's less muddy too. i like sealed speakers though. I like the clarity of the array. boomy ported bass and oversized woofers gives me a headache
I guess as strictly an event DJ it's not much of an issue. But as a musician who used to fill the gaps with dj gigs and running karaoke (we all do what we have to to pay the bills 😅) it's really hard to beat the portability and quick set up of the evolve. To me the evolve has higher fidelity and the array setup makes coverage less of an issue in weird club setups too. But the kicker on the money side is you don't need a separate mixer. You don't need a snake to mix from front of house and you don't need to setup the wiring for a separate mixer in general. You probably don't really mess with too many mic cables so it's probably not as big of an issue. I have a set of passive JBL 2 15s and I've got a powered ev 15 and I've ran a ton more of different things from Yorkville to qsc. From mackie to yamaha mixers. Also time is money. I can have music up and going with the evolve in less than 10 minutes with no issue at all.
@@lavishlifedjs hmmm good question, I think thats likely. I believe bose was one of if not the first to do the towers and im not sure what the original marketing was saying but probably singer songwriter style gigs. The amount of inputs and the volume 100% make these a fine option for even a full band in a small to medium maybe even larger bar with 2. If I was still doing dj style stuff for bars or the odd wedding (those suck) I'd be more than happy with one or two of these vs toting In my 90 pound jbl s . And rack and mixer and all the wires. One wire from my laptop , one or two mic cables and a power cable and im done. Hard to beat that.
The Evolve series need to be cheaper. But of course, their appeal is the portability, so EV can ask what price they want and they'll still sell them. They definitely sound good. My eyes still can't adjust to the white models. Hand me that rattle can of matte black please Jeeves :)
I have the older zlx(yeah yeah I know I love them though and I get through every job with the zlx 12p tops) and a qsc hpr15” sun which still kicks ass. I would like a ln evolve 50m setup for those jobs I don’t want or need to bring a ridiculous amount of things or I can bring two 50m and two 12p and set them up down the room for a nice full sound. But what takes 3 of my ev zlx12p speakers takes one of my friends qsc k12(not .2 still using the regular k12) and his speakers still sound amazing
Might not make sense to some but my perspective on these speakers. Ev is super crispy in sound so expect the sound to be good. The evolve 50 (open) and the 12/18 combo (closed). As if you put a filter on them. Both sound great just a choice and sound preference.
Bro for the one on the left the point source ones if I had the two tops and the two bottoms would they be good to run a 5 piece band ! Drums bass guitar synths vocals … maybe outdoors patio 150 to 300 people
I'm using the poles from my proX polaris stand (unfortunately I don't think they sell them separately, if they do let me know :)...sound town has some white poles that are ok as well
Honestly the EV 50 has a much more clear and defined mid to top end to my ears. I know this is recorded so there might be a difference when you are in front of them, but that's what Im hearing. I would use the array system with the 18". Seems to be the nicest sounding set up overall.
The coolest of the cool. Enjoyed your video as much as I enjoy all your other ones. I'm a comeback DJ returning to what I love most, people, socializing and performing as well. I must say I was close to buying the Evolve 50's but after seeing the other ones you have I may just consider the robust 18SP's. Then again why not have both?! Haha! Keep uploading your videos. I’m literally going through this dilemma right now. Either I buy the Evolve 50 or I just get a pair of RCF 945. Obviously the RCF do not come with the sub but you don’t need a sub with the speakers there 2100 watts however the evolve system is sleek and sexy. I don’t like the look of speaker stands I really like the look of the evolve maybe I’ll do the RCF speakers and one of those Adjustable truss systems by Rockville
Thank you so much for the video. I'm definitely getting the louder one as I have gigs coming up that are outdoor and 1 that is about 500 people. Where did you get the white poles for the subs? I found this one on Amazon - Sound Town 2-pack Subwoofer/Speaker Extender Poles, Fits M20 Threading, White (STSD-M20W-PAIR) - but what do you recommend?
the stick itself has a magnetic built-in. I am wondering if it sticks to the EV collum (which would depend on what it's made of.@@lavishlifedjs It would be a clean look.
Thanks for this video. I had an elx112p and elx118p sub set up but found myself leaving the subs at home due to weight/overkill. I moved to evolve50s as an upgrade on the elx112p (w/o sub). I sold the subs but couldn’t bear to get rid of the 112sp (love their warm sound). Any thoughts on using the 112sp with evolve50 subs if I need a little more than the evolve50 alone? Their size/weight is much easier to transport than the 118. Mainly for small club and bar use.

Yes…I use the app to select a crossover at 80Hz…the Evolves handle the mid and high while my ELX takes care of the bass…it sounds amazing and definitely gives you a harder punch
Thank you! I like 80, for kick drum in a band situation. Gives better control with an analog mixer, which usually has its shelf-type bass adjustment at 80. For prerecorded music, 100 might work best.
I have checked out the Pro 32 at shows but not live...I haven't consider it for 2 reasons...(1) 3 separate pieces to set up and (2) My unhealthy obsession lately with white speakers... Can't wait to check out the LD Maui 44 G2s in white
Depends on the size of the room but my gut is telling me that you will peak very quickly and the sound won’t travel to back of the room. Evolves are good but have their limits
The point source speakers are 1970's technology! I haven't used point source speakers in over FIFTEEN YEARS! If you need more sub, get an additional powered sub, but get out of the point source world. The sound doesn't travel as far as the sound goes in all directions - and SOME go to the audience directly. Plus you have only a few speakers do all of the work reproducing the full range of frequencies. Column speakers do a much better job thanks to the "constructive interference" element of line arrays. If you want to make a real comparison, go back like 50 to 75 feet and record that sound! If you really wanna get great column speakers, go Turbosound IP3000 instead. 17 speakers plus twin 12" subs per column!
@@lavishlifedjs I have NOT done a head-to-head comparison. But... IP3000 is DOUBLE the wattage, and has 16 neodymium 3.5" speakers instead of 8, and DUAL 12" subs instead of a single 12", plus a pair of tweeters on the IP3000 to NONE on the EV50. And the price of the two are virtually the same! So you do the math! IP3000 wins double!
Thanks. I have crossover at 80hz most of the time, the Evolves are flat, and the ELX at -7 to -10 depending on the room…For my weddings, I select music mode for my ceremonies, speeches then club mode for the open dance

This is great. What do you think of the Maui G3 44s? At $6K/pair and the subs coming in at 80 pounds each, what would you suggest to a loyal EV50 user for the past 5 years?
Both are pretty good and works for different occasions…the evolves have great overall sound but once you reach a certain volume it tends to distort…the ELX top/base doesn’t sound as complete as the evolves but you get a little more headroom, it’s also heavier to lug around than the evolves
What are your standard settings for your evolve 50s? I just bought some and having trouble finding a sweet spot for hip/hop R&B Music. Appreciate the assist! GREAT Gig Logs!
For just the Evolves ? I usually run them in music mode at 12 O’Clock for formalities then switch to club mode during dance. I tune the volume starting from (1) Serato to my (2) controller then my (3) mixer out to (4) Evolves making sure I’m not redlining but right at peak sound for each step I do the same thing if I run the Evolves with a sub except I turn the sub off during formalities
0:19 if you doing this for business, it doesn't come down to price but what u need n how manny u need. Not sure what ur audience is but in our tows and events we use 4 18s subs or 2 21s
Good people, from where I come from, people love really loud music at events. So I ask, would a pair of ELXs comfortably handle an event of about 500 people?
Hello, I’ve been in the Dj business for 10 months and I have both the Ev 18 subs paired with 2 qsc k12.2 and honestly they clip easily , they did okay at some events like my own high school events or , small 100 people events but they just clip to easily, not sure if it’s the way I connect them. If possible can you show us how you connect your system. Love the videos 🙏🏻. Thinking about upgrading to way bigger subs.
First, I’m no expert so take this with caution. Seems like you might need something with a little more headroom and/or more sound reinforcement. Almost all of my DJ friends use and swear by the K12s. Most also use the original version so I’m not sure if that makes a difference. Also check out RCF speakers…The higher line speakers are incredible.
if ur not using an external mixer then that's why your system is clipping. A lot of DJs don't know this. When you connect your sound system straight into your controller your controller is not beefy enough to drive your sound system you must add an external mixer. I use a Yamaha MG12XU Mixer it gives you a lot of headroom with plenty of power to drive your sound system without clipping, so invest in an external mixer.
EV 50's and EV 30's are the best speakers on the market,at the moment...You only need one EV 50,to handle almost any event that a mobile DJ has to play...The beauty of the EV's is that they will not lose their value either...Do it right the first time, and you don't have to worry about it anymore...Get those EV's and if you can't afford the 50's,the 30's pack quite a punch as well...And the thing that also can't be denied,is the sound quality!! Electro Voice all day,for the win!!

When you said Caribbean back yard joint. that statement gave me all the explanation I need between the 2 lol
Lol yu dun know
I went thru the same decision process.
Wonder if they ever make 15” evolve
The Evolve line is amazing. The only thing they are missing is a larger system for slightly larger venues and crowds
Appreciate the follow up...I'm pretty much of the same opinion but can't let go of the Evolves just yet : )
More versatility with the ELX for sure
Thanks for the vid. I like the clarity of the Evolve 50 top --not as boxy /dark/"midrangey"--at least in this video. I use the EV 50M as a gigging solo musician (guitar, vocal, looper for self-recorded hand percussion tracks) and love it--admittedly, a different application, but, as you say, it has a magical, dynamic sound. I'm very happy with it for the restaurant/bar gigs I do.
Appreciate it bro
Do you have any videos of your work? I'm wanting to get into solo bar and cafe gigs also. The Evolve 50 looks awesome for this.
@@Nestico87 you mean like gig logs using each system ? Check my channel, I have plenty
One of the best demos I've seen. Thanx mate. Awesome.
I had JBL eons a while back. They do the job…the 12p is good but definitely need to run it with a sub
Maybe Ill get to own some columns one day 😁
Appreciate it 🤙🏾 For sure, I think the evolve has its place and is limited by large spaces and crowd sizes
I love my Evo 50s, I have alot of great compliments on the speakers I use in my shows.. But great video thanks for demonstrating those speakers, keep up the good work!
Thanks 🙏🏾 Evo 50s are definitely great looking
I have two evolve 50s and an EKX 18SP, it's a night club when it cranks. The Evolve tops have plenty of volume for most situations.
Evolves are dope
I have two Evolve 50, too. What frequency are you crossing out your EKX at?
I like the Evolve 50 with the 18sp sub, that sounded at least like it had the best overall coverage. But I think they are all pretty close
Very close I was surprised…the difference tho came when I turn each up…the ELX combo had more headroom
Pretty close until you need to cover a larger room with more people inside. Then the evolve simply gets lost. Definitely good for smaller venues with less people.
They almost sound the same but the one on the right side sounds more crispy and clear
yep they all sounded great
Woooooow man, Awesomeness. Thanks for the comparison DJ
My pleasure 🙏🏾
I preferred the tighter bass of the 50M.
Great idea but the camera (microphone) should standing in the middle, between the two systems for a fair comparison. Now we getting all the highs and mids from evolve as it staring the camera but not from ELX. Cool video though and great systems as well, enjoy them. Thanks
Thanks for the feedback.
Thanks for the suggestion. I will definitely consider a digital mixer in the future.
Fav combo was def the EV 50 with the added low end of the 18 inch Sub
A different EQ setting for the ELX to match the system on the right (Evolve) might be the solution. The ELX's bottom end is too loose but that's fixable. Just roll the lower mids as well as the lows down a tad, you'd have the power and clarity without the rumble. I don't think it'd be perfect bc the cone surface areas aren't the same, but it should be close . . . oh you might give the highs a slight tweak too. Just my 2 cents, fwiw.
And thank you for going through the trouble to do the video. It was helpful.
Appreciate the advice
Thanks for playing them both. Great video 💯💯
Great points, I ordered the Evolve 30… I think the biggest draw to the 30 and 50 is the onboard mixer. Makes things much easier to transport and setup.
the audio quality from evolve 50 is awesome
It is for sure !
Great review , all depends on your objectives and what kind of events you do
Thanks Mark…As someone mentioned, Apples and Oranges but people are shopping everything and comparing across all brands and speaker types.
I’ll keep the big joints for my band and the Caribbean parties 🇯🇲
Thanks for the video!
Yu dun know…gotta have that bass for the carribean joints
I have the EV Ekx 15p. Love them. I see no point in buying a 10 or 12" when you can buy the 15" for almost the same price. I also tried the etx 15p but they sounded the same as the ekx but more expensive. 2 15" speakers and a sub is all you need for up to 5/600 people.
Weight ? But I see your point
@@mariocastillo813 thanks for the response. Guess I will jut have to risk this and see how it works out.
Thanks. Definitely some wise words.
Nice video mann. I just bought a ELX200-18sp and I’m loving it
Evolve 50 for the wedding win. Stuff a 15" sub under the table are you are golden for 90% of weddings.
I’m there with you a 100%…I put an 18 under the table tho…check out my recent logs :)
Great comparison! I’m torn between the watts a QSC provides for the price and using a mackie for effects. I’m solo gigging with backing tracks . So many choices!
So many choices out there…good luck
the bass isn't as deep on the smaller system, but it's less muddy too. i like sealed speakers though. I like the clarity of the array. boomy ported bass and oversized woofers gives me a headache
I have been using EV since I first started to DJ so I’m sticking to what I know.
EV makes great stuff
Thanks for the comparison and perspective 🎉🎉🎉
No doubt 🙏🏾 thanks for watching
Thank you for delivering such a good test and comparison.
No doubt…appreciate the comment 🙏🏾
By the sounds of it. The evolve 50 with the 18 inch subs sounds crisp while the ELX sounds a little muffled.
The evolve 50s are definitely clear but more headroom with the ELX top and bottom
I could not agree more with what you... EV give us the Evolve with a bigger sub, because adding in the 18SP brings the Evolve to another level!
Hopefully they listen
Nice perspective. Weren’t these really made for that application ?
Yeah finding the right speaker can be challenging for all of us…I’m still on that quest
Might not make sense to some but my perspective on these speakers. Ev is super crispy in sound so expect the sound to be good. The evolve 50 (open) and the 12/18 combo (closed). As if you put a filter on them.
Both sound great just a choice and sound preference.
Thanks and great points…I love em both
Bro for the one on the left the point source ones if I had the two tops and the two bottoms would they be good to run a 5 piece band ! Drums bass guitar synths vocals … maybe outdoors patio 150 to 300 people
Absolutely
Excellent information. Love this review and comparison. Very good points.
Thank you
I was going to say that as you get older Evolve 50 is the answer. Saving your back. Nice Video

If you have the 18s then I think the 12s compliment it really well

Which speaker poles are you using with the ELX200 setup? They match very well.
I'm using the poles from my proX polaris stand (unfortunately I don't think they sell them separately, if they do let me know :)...sound town has some white poles that are ok as well
Ev is so much crispier
🤙🏾
I'd definitely get the separate tops and bottoms. But I'm personally not a fan of the white look.
Most def. Yeah the white is a personal choice…been rocking all black for awhile now
Great video! Needed this. Thanks man.
No doubt
New subscriber to your channel.
Thanks for sub ! I have both and love the flexibility it gives me
I’m literally going through this dilemma right now.
RCF EVOX 12s ?
Thank you so much for the video. I'm definitely getting the louder one as I have gigs coming up that are outdoor and 1 that is about 500 people. Where did you get the white poles for the subs? I found this one on Amazon - Sound Town 2-pack Subwoofer/Speaker Extender Poles, Fits M20 Threading, White (STSD-M20W-PAIR) - but what do you recommend?
Appreciate it...the poles are from prox as part of a package stand I bought (X-polaris)
Nice! Can you stick those Ape Lab Sticks with the magnetic directly on the Evolve 50 array?
I’m not sure. Most people stick metal magnetic tabs on to attach the ape sticks
the stick itself has a magnetic built-in.
I haven’t use other two together but I would imagine it giving you a little more high end.
Wonder if they share the same 12” driver 112sp vs 50

Hello, I am not a DJ but I have a pair of ELX200-12P. What do you think if I pair my ELX200-12P to ( thinking of buying Evolve 50 or Evolve 30M ) or should I just add the ELX200-18SUB. We are just a small family members playing music together and singing karaoke…Anyone, your thoughts, comments and suggestions are much appreciated.
I think with already owing the 12ps, you’ll have more scalability and flexibility with an added ELX sub which is relatively lightweight
When adding the 18SP to the evolve 50s, are you able to push the 50s a lot harder and get highs/mids that scale with volume?
Yes…I use the app to select a crossover at 80Hz…the Evolves handle the mid and high while my ELX takes care of the bass…it sounds amazing and definitely gives you a harder punch

Speaker on the right sounded wayyyy better
Really ?
Thanks for the comment. You like the Turbosound IP3000 ? Have you compared it to the EV50 ?
@@lavishlifedjs I have NOT done a head-to-head comparison. But... IP3000 is DOUBLE the wattage, and has 16 neodymium 3.5" speakers instead of 8, and DUAL 12" subs instead of a single 12", plus a pair of tweeters on the IP3000 to NONE on the EV50. And the price of the two are virtually the same! So you do the math! IP3000 wins double!
Thank you so much Brother really good video

Did you ever try the LD Maui 44G2 ? But the only comes with black color.
I think that may be the column array I’m looking for…only if they came in white tho…gotta get rid of my white everything obsession 😄
They just announce white Maui 44 G2s
0:19 if you doing this for business, it doesn't come down to price but what u need n how manny u need. Not sure what ur audience is but in our tows and events we use 4 18s subs or 2 21s
21s…wow :)
Evolve 50 for me! The music is more, 🤔 well should I say “present”!
Which sub poles are those with your elx set up?
Pro x Polaris
@@lavishlifedjs you had to get the bases with it too? Can only find that pair with heavy bases for $500! I’m looking for the sub poles only
@@dreamdaycharleston yeah I bought it with the bases because at the time I needed them
Check out soundtown they have some white poles
@@lavishlifedjs awesome thanks dude!
Good people, from where I come from, people love really loud music at events. So I ask, would a pair of ELXs comfortably handle an event of about 500 people?
Not sure probably pushing the limits then. I think you would prob need some fillers
I would say comfortable 350
Can you do a similar test with the ELX200 12in sub. If you put your hand on them.
If I get the 12s I would be happy to
Yea for those small pub jobs ect
@@lavishlifedjs the qsc are fine, the Ev subs subs are the one clipping too easy, at what db do you run them?
@@DJYAHIR ah I see…I usually have my base at -8db with the evolves
if ur not using an external mixer then that's why your system is clipping.
@@viperstinger77 I do use an external mixer.
What subs poles are those?
ProX Polaris
EV 50's and EV 30's are the best speakers on the market,at the moment...You only need one EV 50,to handle almost any event that a mobile DJ has to play...The beauty of the EV's is that they will not lose their value either...Do it right the first time, and you don't have to worry about it anymore...Get those EV's and if you can't afford the 50's,the 30's pack quite a punch as well...And the thing that also can't be denied,is the sound quality!! Electro Voice all day,for the win!!
The Bose 32s or 16s wipe the floor with the 50s and Bose will definitely hold more value over time
@@chadnliz2k11 ....Absolutely not...I've used both and the Bose system is good, but not as good as the EV 30's and 50's
@@KR8TZ the fact you said 30s shows you didn't actually listen. You'd be legally deaf to say that with a straight face.
You overplayed your bluff hand
@@KR8TZ - Even better is the RCF Evox 12s :).
How many EV 50 wold you use for most of your events with 18 inch sub
Evolve 50s are not as loud but you can clearly hear the high-hats.
Yeah they sound more dynamic imo
Men that evolve has a deeper bass than the 18inch and musch more crisp i would choose evolve
12" is never going to come close to an 18" of the SAME or close caliber. Physics.
The first thing Tom does is MOON US! Lol
Tremendo
🙏🏾🙏🏾
you better check the maui 44 FYI!!!!!
I’m definitely aware…sub is 80 + lbs tho
What settings do you have your evolves set to when you only use them and no sub?
Usually club setting everything at unity…I sometime turn up the sub to +1
@@lavishlifedjs thanks for your quick response! I just ordered 2 evolve 50s in white. So pumped! I still wish I could keep my wash FX attached. Have a great day!
It is not the comparison that is ridiculous but the iPhone audio, totally useless. those two can be compared as you said, many people are thinking about the tread off when going smaller column speakers, I personally find the Evolve great but very expensive, especially compared to Evox 8. Sure the Evolve 50 is better a bit, but not for double the price.
