    It's really awesome how naturaly realistic the battle is, the no man's land that forms between the forces with occasional charges, the exaustion of the troops, the missile throwing , so cool to see, it really gives you an idea of how those battles looked like

    I never did make it to pensic when i was an active member. Man that would have been a blast!!. The biggest battle i was ever in was 147 vs 146. So much fun. I miss it.

      Ehhh, there's calibration standards. You're supposed to give a solid blow, but not go at people hammer and tongs like you're chopping trees. Of course, melee sometimes makes people excited...

      About where are you from? I can point you to your kingdom and their chatelaine (welcome wagon/newcomer officer) can get you set up with your local group. If you don't want to answer, the group lookup tool is here: sca.org/kingdom_lookup.html Once you've found your local group, go to fighter practice (almost every group will have one weekly) and start learning. :)

      @Justin-kb8jj 6 месяцев назад

      But civil war renactments have calvary charges at least an acted out facsimile of it so I'm sure it could be added on some scale like "horses can move in these areas that stay clear and they can't be hit but they cause x (ticks from reserve pool etc) you can cause them to be out if x (have superiority in this area for x mins = one horse heads home" more of a set piece for but the addition of them in any way would be epic.yeah not easy to do but the coolest things never are.

    • @RenegadePaladin
      @RenegadePaladin  6 месяцев назад +2

      Overcomplication aside, the most salient sticking point is that the campground where Pennsic is held doesn't permit horses on the premises.

    • @blam320
      @blam320 Месяц назад

      @@Justin-kb8jj Reenactments aren't the same as LARP or combat sports. Pennsic sort of straddles the border between LARPing and an actual sport. A Reenactment is more like a stage play with well-defined characters, roles, and outcomes.

    Looks like most people pretend they don’t get hit when they get hit.

    • @RenegadePaladin
      @RenegadePaladin  5 месяцев назад +4

      It can happen, but from the outside it's hard to judge what's a clean hit. It isn't a touch calibration game; if you judge it wasn't hard enough, or glancing, or not edge-on (that's why the swords have a strip of different colored tape on one side; the "flat" doesn't count) then under the rules you aren't supposed to take it. The only people who really know are the ones in there; I certainly can't tell for sure from fifty feet away in a tower.

    • @jamesreese4170
      @jamesreese4170 4 месяца назад

      Is it single hit then out or are there armor points for shield helmet etc?

    • @RenegadePaladin
      @RenegadePaladin  4 месяца назад +1

      @@jamesreese4170 It's single hit then out (if the hit is in the legal, lethal target area; hits to the upper arms and upper legs disable the limb but do not kill and you aren't allowed to hit the lower arm or the shins), but it's full contact; fighters aren't going to take a glancing blow or light tap, and they aren't supposed to.

    I wonder Were wars like this? 😂

    • @RenegadePaladin
      @RenegadePaladin  9 месяцев назад +7

      Not really, mainly because we don't have real morale problems. If your friends are actually getting speared and hacked around you, you're much more likely to panic and run. That almost never happens in the SCA context because everyone knows they're not actually going to die.

      Bridge Battles was and still are important battles the and into modern war.Bridges are a choke point for armies. Read some history on it . The last battle in movie Brave Heart really took place at a narrow stone bridge with half of England's army on the other side. The Scots slaughtered them ,any English trying to wade /swim was drowned. Reinforcements was slaughtered trying to cross the narrow bridge.Narrow areas are easy to defend even dead and wounded become a protective barricade.On a bridge many would be tossed over the side to let more be killed. There was little chance to flee as others behind would push front soldiers (often they was the poorest /worst equipped to see what the enemy would do) forward .Regular men of the line even if the wanted to flee was watched over by Sargent's and each other to keep good order. Even after a army was routed those how lived /fled had better had a good explanation why they wasn't dead . Often command leaders would react with executing say every 5th man a traitor s death , something horrible like crucifixion. You would only hope to live or wounded badly a friend would put you out of your misery before the dogs pull out and eat your intestines before you die. I'll stop with saying it was like butchers from hell worked on many hundreds leaving them to die horribly until the camp thieves finished you off.

      They didn't wait politely for their dead to crawl out of the way before thier next charge.
