Finally a weapon that makes more sense against armor. I’ve only seen sword fights that just turn into shield bashes which makes more sense than the sword.
Generally, the knights will have daggers. The sword fight always devolve into a wrestling match. In which case, a dagger is your best friend. It’ll poke through the small openings in the plates.

I agree, the long pollard style fights are always the most entertaining. Yeah it's interesting seeing the different offhand shields people use but not as effective with armor bashing.

I think it should be like Thai kickboxing where they score takedowns/knockdowns but stand them back up. Wrestling/bjj in armor is just…clunky.

I think pretty much all modern attempts at historical martial arts should work like that - in fact that should be the primary way fights are scored
I was thinking straight boxing I don’t think you would be able to throw a body kick with that amount of armour could do sweeps n that but still

I disagree. The wrestling is the most important part of these fights. Back in the day, these things would always devolve into a wrestling match. What we need is time and money for the talent pool to get better. Then you’ll see some decent scrambles

It’s going to be really cool seeing how fighters adapt what they’ve seen in video games & movies into the sport. Dude entered the ring and does a Dark Souls move on the first attack I mean, it doesn’t get cooler than that. Well done!
Problem with Armored combat is the stamina. Armors heavy as all hell so those smooth moves be it from games or even actual hema manuals takes a lot of stamina to pull off. So if anything I’m looking forward to when they truly figure out how to train for stamina. Figure that out and we will get more and more of those moves as now they dont have to risk gassing or helmet clogging for a higher level faint, dodge, or attack

People break their shit in regular fighting all the time. Hell some of the injuries you see in UFC are far worse than in these kind if fights.

Honestly i guess this is kinda cool because it shows how people fought back then. Kinda like a live action Deadliest Warrior.
Reality check for you, it wouldn't have been anything like this as the 2 fighters would have been trying to kill each other, with heavier axe heads on shorter handles, swinging straight at the neck or to cut off their 'sword arm'. The armour wouldn't stop a war axe for long & the knights didn't have the time or the energy to play fight like these guys did.

It's not really similar to actual HEMA, as soon as the one guy did a spin, it's pretty much just fantasy fighting rather than real fighting

Yes, you are wearing padded cloths under 30-80lbs of armor. The heat a lone is awful. Its not fighting in shorts... the heat will sometimes get you before muscle fatigue. Especially at this pace
As book writer of fantasy and medival novels i love that kind of content. Its a good thing to see how fast a human fighter is exhausted or what kind of opening they choose or what kind of counterattack. I think without armor, the first hitter maybe always loses because many counter are direct hits.

Good fight. Stegmeier seemed to have better skills with the weapon, while McCable was better able to wrestle and fight hand to hand. I feel like people often underestimate the importance of grappling in combat like this.

Not sure I get it.. can't submit or choke your opponent and striking is pretty useless when the other guy has a full suit of armor on... puzzling
The rounds are scored based on strikes landed and takedowns
Striking is hardly useless...take a hit from one of those axes even when you're wearing armor and it'll wear you down and/or hurt like a MF.
The armor helps you from going down in 1 hit, its not invulnerable.
let's put it this way, plate armor is much like kevlar, it may stop the weapon, but not the force behin it, those knees to the face were absolutely brutal, tha guy in blue at the very least ha his ears ringing
You can potentially knock someone out with 1 hit to the head, just like MMA
