Aww thanks for watching me fight! Welcome to my channel
Only 1060's kids will remember this. . .
I'm having Hastings flashbacks
Their set of armour is actually came from early 14th century
1060 AD was an age of maille armour. What it shown here is circa 1380-1410, also called the transition period from mostly maille and scattered plates to becoming full suits of pure plate (with maille under the armpit and around the groin)
That set of armor i think came out at 14-15th century
If we're both talking about the man with red padding under his armour, the brig looks to be transitional from Visby, making it a 1361 piece with a 1410 klapvisor bascinet, hourglass gauntlets are pretty common for a large part of the 15th Century (1401-1499 AD) so it's hard to place them exactly, legs have brig cuisses and plate greaves, so it's roughly 1370 AD+, and the arms are full plate so 1400 AD abouts? So he wears a pretty wide range of years for armour, but not something too outlandish in terms of a poor mercenary.
The guy with white padding looks like his armour is much closer in years, maybe 1390-1410? I'm not familiar with what region his shoulder plates originate from, and I think that might be a Rus helm he is wearing? His brig is much better shaped which is why I think his is a much newer iteration of brig made within those years.

Yeah. To think that your average foot soldier probably didn't have near as much armor. It would be interesting to see how combat actually played out when it was for real but obviously that's something we can only guess at. This is probably closer than most attempts though.
Don't forget the average weapons were usually almost stump and rusty, the armor like here was only for kings guard or knights, they were the only ones with really sharp and shini weapons too and don't forget all the piss and the shit and sweat everyone hat in their pants when two army's where staying for hours infront of each other before fighting to hype themselfes, to slaughter each other
They would get knocked down and get beat to death usually ending in a brutal bloody body
Simon, you are badass!!!! The axe, hooked for disarming the opponent, the armor, accented by a crimson red, the intimidating stature and swagger of a paladin, you’ve got it all.
Thank you! That swagger is just me playing mind games. Fear and reputation are also weapons. Thanks for coming to my channel!
@@axemaster Also, a quick tangent, both the outfit and that aforementioned swagger remind me of the Sturdymen from Mortal Shell (a fantastic dark fantasy RPG that I very much recommend). They’re humongous soldiers with that same sort of intimidating swagger, but the move they often use to engage combat shows some alarming speed. A nice break from the molasses slow berserker trope.

Yeah it is brutal. I've seen more fighters come out with injured muscles than broken bones, however. I really wish movies would have more of this type of fight choreography, where the fighting would be properly brutal and multistaged, not just stuck at the weapons level or limited to strikes. Hell, grappling was INVENTED to combat armoured foes.
Welp, most actors don't really understand fighting irl, they just have choreography to do that for them. It's difficult to do a fight like this, and to have it progress to what a movie would want would warrent people getting hurt
We just need choreographers to step up and design more raw, realistic, full contact fights. And the directors/editors need to stop cutting after every. single. action. Look at Jackie Chan to see how it can be done cinematically, and make the effort with all your hundreds of millions of dollars. Hopefully the next decade of cinema will show more of a dedication to practical effects.
Next decade of cinema? Maaan cinema is dead and covid buried it......
medieval combat in real life: blood, grit, and steel, fighting on the edge of your life, surrounded by the clashing of swords, the whining of horses, the whistles of arrows and the blasts of canons, with only a single blade stroke between victory and death. your helmet filled with sweat and blood, you push through to the bitter end, as a knight on horseback runs you through with a lance longer than you body, as he draws his sword and pistol to duel the enemy knight.
medieval combat in movies: barely pubescent blond haired farmhand who has only ever killed pigs and wheat does a backflip and kills the enemy king in one hit, (which somehow phased through his STEEL ARMOR) which for some reason causes the entire enemy army to surrender. btw, the winners are the good guys because yes.

Styles make matches. Love how red was throwing white around, but white got those axe techniques.
White had a much smaller axe, thst was the reason
@@hoppeananc white had essentially every advantage except strength, his technique and skill at reposting repeatedly saved him from some really wicked blows. The smaller axe head also serves as an advantage because it has a higher force of impact per square inch with the same swing. Red was smart to rely on his grappling and bigger strength to try to overcome the gap in skill level.
This made me cry. The whole story. The way he proposed to him... beautiful. 🥺😭😭
Hahaha there is some bro love
Enemies to lovers.
Hahaahahahaa.. very clever.👏👏👏
Holy fucking shit this is gold.
Hahahahahhaha
This is what I was missing in my life. I can't believe how real this is. Makes hollywood renditions look like SNL skits.
Thank you that makes my heart happy
The sportsmanship, the chivalry, the respect for ones opponent. BRAVO! what a brilliant fight. 👍👍👍 Absolutely Fantastic. Thank you for this amazing piece of content!
Thank you. I am the guy in red, thinks my channel. Hope you like what you find.
Simon Rohrich damn you destroyed him though
@@axemaster how bruised were you guys after this, even with the armor on?
@@xcaluhbration we. Oth had some.sore spots. The great trip he did was on the leg with the torn ACL and the hip and leg hits he said over beers later were pretty sore. If you get hit in a gap, the resulting bruise can be "car accident" scale. Like a hip hit that will bruise past your knee.
@@axemaster Haha ahhhhh MAN that sounds like fun! I don't even know how you got into this but I'm glad you did and even recorded it for us. I'm in California and was showing this to some other black dudes and it was blowing their MINDS, like we didn't even know it was a thing and now we're hooked.
1:56 hmm that sweet parry tho
:Edit: yes by now i have noticed its not a parry no need to get you knickers in a twist
This is soooo satisfying....
Right? Lol
Except it was a clean hit straight to the face.
@@cattleherder1912 oh wait you're right! Well still the sound is wonderful to hear, any rough steel to steel action is amazing
That wasn't a parry, the ax bounced off his helmet then hit the ax.
this is how everyone should settle their disagreements
Goodbye SJWs
@@johncarr8816 Literally man. Never met a soy necked feminist worth just half their weight in a fight. Most would snap like twigs, hence why they no doubt weren't around until daddy government began pandering to them. Sick animals die out in the wild, but not in captivity.
We could be friends, more than likely.
I really miss going to Renaissance fairs and experiencing that time period. I went to various ones from 2006 to 2015; that was the last one I attended. I have all the garb and everything. I recently sold my chainmail because I can't afford to attend them any longer, and no money for the trips to them. But I do enjoy collecting real artifacts from this time period so I guess it's a trade off. But they 'aren't as expensive as going to fairs out of state though. I wish I could find sporting events like this near me so I could attend.
Judo makes so much more sense to me now.
Grappling in general with that much armor
@@forteastro6996 Jiujitsu was created specifically to fight people wearing armour! More specifically, in feudal Japan, Samurai learned it as a last resort when they lost their weapons in the battlefield, as punches/kicks don't do so much against armour...
If you don't have a heavy weapon like an axe or mace, the only chance you have is to try and take them down.
I was just thinking that. Judo makes alot of sense suddenly
@@zedayar2867 Bullshit son. Try wearing a plate helmet and take a punch from a gauntlet. It'll rock your shit, guaranteed. Just because you're encased in metal doesn't mean your body works any differently. I know from personal experience. Both these guys in the vid? Bruised and sore to high hell probably. I know I don't escape heats like. These unharmed. I don't care how much padding you have in your gambeson, that shit hurts.
Time travelling axe ace from the Middle Ages seeing this: “Noobs”

Great times fighting Simon
They’d probably be laughing at how shabbily made the armor is.

They are pretty shit tho, doesnt seem like they have trained for this at all.
@@cptcap7531 they are actually pretty good. It just looks like they are wearing 80-100lbs of armor like they actually are. A lot of people couldn't even walk in that.

First time i saw this sport was irl on some sort of medieval festival and i thought they were gonna go easy. When the signal went of and they started waving around like crazy as hard as they could i bursted out laughing. Shocked in a positive way.
None of them parried or roled

*In many medieval books and stories the fights are beautiful to watch, you almost think it's not that difficult. Just watching this video you feel that, in addition to being difficult to fight a single opponent, it must be extremely tiring to fight for a few seconds.*
Yes, in the same way an actual fight is not as cool looking as choreographed king fu nonesense. Its like playing rugby while in a baseball bat fight wearing 80lbs of gear and breathing through a snorkel. Thanks for watching me fight and coming to my channel.
i think thats why the romans invented a system where their front line will fight for a few mins then will be replaced by the person behind them and the first person fighting will move at the back end of the line. Rinse and repeat. Hence the roman legion was so successful.
@@axemaster If by "actual fights" we talk 99% of street fights which are untrained dudes going at it I agree. Well trained fighters can have very cool looking fights, as well as grindingly ugly and raw ones. Styles and matchups makes the fight. But yeah with axe vs axe in full plate armor I imagine anything pretty or "movie cool" is pretty impossible.
@@heymelon yes thats what I meant. Trained fighters are like watching bloody ballet. Media has really messed up people's perception of what armored combat would look like. Its similar to when the UFC came out and people got to see where fancy moves studied from a book without pressure testing got you.
Yeah but these guys didn't train since they were kids a really medevil fight scene between trained soldiers would probably look way different
