The F-14 is faster, but he would not have been able to get out of missile range fast enough to avoid getting 4 missiles launched against him. Once he was in the fight he's committed to it, he either shoots down the SU-57 or it will shoot him down.
@@MattKearneyFan1 That that part of the movie was CGI is a given. What the actual capabilities of the F-14 is fairly well known, we know what speed it stalls at, (in the mid 90's) and with that we know how many deg/sec it can generate at any given speed, altitude and weight. We know how fast it can go and how quickly it can accelerate. Lot's of unknowns about the SU-57, but for the time frame in question (2018-20) we have observed performance, we know what engine and radar and other systems it had, more importantly what it did not have yet cause the systems did not show up until 2021-22.
The fact had it not been for the plot armor and the surprise attack from Hangman, mav and rooster would’ve been dead. It’s rare that movies show the enemy as genuinely skilled and better than the protagonist at times.

i like to think that su-57 pilot was a mig-28 pilot who survived the events of the first top gun, i think it provides a cool parallel between him and maverick with them both being seasoned veteran pilots with some tricks up their sleeves and some history between them
Never forget one is a SU35 a 4+generation Fighter and the other one is a 5 generation Fighter the SU57 . Russian Fighter Pilot's are insane. What they can do up in the air is unbelievable.
That move was really sick on screen, but notice IRL how the Su-35 is left flying super slow at a ridiculous AoA. It's going to take you several seconds to gain your energy back after a move like that.
Different paradigms. The Americans and most Western airforces focus on energy bar none (or just plain stealth and BVR) while the Russians seem to have put a lot of effort into insane manoeuvrability. Against multiple opponents, you'd never pull this move, but one on one you may have an edge in some scenarios.
Let me tell you that the scream I made when this sequence came got me the best reaction from some in the theatre I was watching this in. I even heard "Belkan tech BS" as well. 🤣🤣🤣
I just wanna say that for those who are saying this final dogfight is all CGI they are half right i saw in some clips that the F14 flying is an F18 edited to look like the F14, though the Su 57 and Missiles (obviously) are completly CGI
If anyone is in disbelief that an old F-14 out fought G5 aircraft, keep in mind that In WW2 a Dive Bomber pilot flying an SBD Dauntless managed to outmaneuver and take out 3 Japanese Zeros. (Look up 'Dogfights - Long Odds' to see the story and interview with the pilot)
That's not new though, SBDs would tear up zeros with ease. Also not really the same, seeing as they were both late 30's early 40's tech. It's more like a Sopwith Camel beating a Spitfire Mk 22 in a dogfight
I think the way he dropped back and hit the first sukhoi was at last mildly believable given the element of surprise, but the fighting with the second and 3rd is a bit of a stretch, in reality it's just going to be how long can they survive, not will they win, but that's movie drama for you...
I think what most people fail to realize is the F14 would then be rating around the circle while the Sukhoi is trying to regain energy, unless he can get a R-73 off
@@lightningxx oh it's going to be difficult either way. But it is possible for an intense pilot that knows the F14 and it's abilities to take on a 5th gen up close. Stand off...99 out of 100 the 5th gen wins.

That sidewinder must’ve been an older model, if it had an all aspect seeker that just would have plowed into the aircraft, however if that was an earlier sidewinder like a Golf or Hotel and only fires rear aspect that maneuver might just work
@@gordrilla I mean, the real Tomcat had Limas and Mikes, I SUPPOSE it could have fielded the Hotel very early on since the Lima was actually one of the few joint efforts between the navy and Air Force to upgrade their existing arsenal of A2A weapons and the Lima was a culmination of that. I’d have to get a close look at the missile nose fins to tell
@@gordrilla I’m just being a stickler for details, and ACTUALLY those do appear to be Aim-9H (hotels) so they would NOT be all aspect and WOULD in fact be susceptible to a maneuver like this since it would be a rear aspect model and that means if it’s not looking at the very REAR of an aircraft it cannot lock and that maneuver changes the aspect quick enough to confuse the missile
To be clear, if a pilot tries to do that maneuver in that situation, he/she would just lose a lot of speed, making it way way waaaay easier for the Sidewinder missile to track and hit him XD
however true, in real life that missile regardless of its age would be able to pull more than enough Gs to hit it regardless of the manouver, but seeing as it happens to dodge it and the F14 overshot the SU-57 could dive down and regain speed. i wont state what happens after or if they did that for spoilers sake though. personally i would dive down
@@blair6932 What Maverick does is actually totally valid (for laws of radio propagation reasons). A land based radar guided SAM I worked on really didn't like dealing with what happened next. The simple expiation to why Mavericks Sidewinder didn't detonate was it had not armed by the time it reached the SU-57. Either Maverick fired it too close or the SU-57 manoeuvre slowed it down fast enough to reduce the distance to within the missile arming range/time. Minimum arming range in real life for a Sidewinder is around half a mile!!!
Missile would hit and destroy the target, even if it didn't the pilot has lost so much energy it would never be able to catch an F14 attempting to go ballistic and run all the way back to the safety of the ship.
But SU-57 was better because it was feared throughout the movie despite it was shot down Reason for the fear was because of their stealth and BVR capability and would be a 1 sided massacre againts the F-18s The movie showcased a 1v1 dogfight which shows how terrifying it is to face a killing machine with Thrust Vectoring As some TOPGUN instructors said after reviewing the movie those Thrust Vector maneuver would certainly make pilots freeze and stare in awe during a dogfight which is dangerous if the pilots never faced enemies that uses such insane maneuvers Other movies would make the SU-57 to be a no big deal kind of crap It would be like Stealth plane movie That was crappy showcase of russian fighters
It's funny that everyone forgets that modern air to air missiles have proximity fuse. So no cobra or bell maneuver can save the plane if the missile is in close proximity
@@warfriday We are talking here about the proximity fuse, that is meant to blow up if the missile is in the area of an airplane/fighter jet. There is no distance calculation, it is just a timer. You can do a sharp turn to make the distance faster between the missile and the launcher jet and the mechanism will activate at the same time regardless of the distance between them. You can call it ... arming, but again, it's not related to distance.

А почему Круз удивляется увидев этот манёвр? Наши самолёты так давно умеют, поэтому любой военный пилот должен знать что это было.
Probably one of the top 10 uses of *Fuck* in a PG13 movie.
The real - life version came out of the maneuver with almost no airspeed left to defeat even a retired F-14
Definitely a KVOCHUR'S BELL. Saw one other video which showed top 10 maneuvers, this one fit kvochur bell perfectly.

I love that the firing of the missile looks exactly like the original film. And the move is very cool even though I think he would have lost more speed in real life and they might have been able to run away, the F-14 is/was a very very fast aircraft
1650mph
The F-14 is faster, but he would not have been able to get out of missile range fast enough to avoid getting 4 missiles launched against him. Once he was in the fight he's committed to it, he either shoots down the SU-57 or it will shoot him down.
That was cgi. Not real
The actual footage of the firing of the missile from the f-14 is straight up just from the original top gun. It is the exact same footage reused
The fact had it not been for the plot armor and the surprise attack from Hangman, mav and rooster would’ve been dead. It’s rare that movies show the enemy as genuinely skilled and better than the protagonist at times.
Wouldve been cool if he also popped flares while spinning. Wouldve been even more spectacular for sure

Awesome maeneuver, congrats to russians.
Dauntless destroys a Zero in the one turn, the gap wasn't as large back then.

That sidewinder must’ve been an older model, if it had an all aspect seeker that just would have plowed into the aircraft, however if that was an earlier sidewinder like a Golf or Hotel and only fires rear aspect that maneuver might just work
Look at how old the fuckin aircraft is, hiw it's portrayed in the movie and you've got your answer...Christ almighty 🙄
Don't tell the Russians that lmao
Missile would hit and destroy the target, even if it didn't the pilot has lost so much energy it would never be able to catch an F14 attempting to go ballistic and run all the way back to the safety of the ship.
Exactly
This was so cool moment in the Cinema, everyone was jumping in their chairs!
The reason why the SU35 should have been in the movie instead
But SU-57 was better because it was feared throughout the movie despite it was shot down
Reason for the fear was because of their stealth and BVR capability and would be a 1 sided massacre againts the F-18s
The movie showcased a 1v1 dogfight which shows how terrifying it is to face a killing machine with Thrust Vectoring
As some TOPGUN instructors said after reviewing the movie those Thrust Vector maneuver would certainly make pilots freeze and stare in awe during a dogfight which is dangerous if the pilots never faced enemies that uses such insane maneuvers
Other movies would make the SU-57 to be a no big deal kind of crap
It would be like Stealth plane movie

It's funny that everyone forgets that modern air to air missiles have proximity fuse. So no cobra or bell maneuver can save the plane if the missile is in close proximity
Not to mention that the maneuver just presents a larger, more stationary target. There was no risk of a miss.
The proximity fuse has a arming timer on it. You can use that to justify the scene.
@@Xadethor missile is armed after a certain distance from the f-14, I believe, not the other way around.
@@Xadethor Oh, I get you now. so what you're saying is that by doing a cobra, the su57 lost a lot of speed that the missile reached it before it was armed, correct?
