Very enjoyble and the way you explain make easier ✨✨✨✨✨ ps. sorry 4 bad english
LoL, I mean launchkey has more possibilities when pairing with koala, but you're right, it does need more power supply to use with ipad, the adaptor should support external power supply if ipad has lighting port, but no need for those type c ones.
@@playpm what do you think is the best controller for the likes of koala and controlling parameters on effect apps running in aum? this or the nanokontrol2? probably nanokontrol 2, right? i'm just thinking of maybe getting one since i find using a maschine with ipad apps too complicated to route between the two.
@e y l v y I'm thinking of routing the controller with Koala in AUM too! There's no perfect controller imo, every one has its pros and cons. I suggest stick with what you already got, it might already fulfill your needs as long as it has keys and knobs.
For all the Akai users, it is possible to map a knob as a button! To switch from stop to play by a half turn for example. No need to buy a korg :) thank you michael for the inspiration and all the money i didnt spent xD peace
hi, i have the nanopad 2 but my XY pad for the FX didn't work like this at all 4:22 and instead it works like just another pad. which settings i should change?
You need to download the controller editor from Korg then transfer the setting file I provided to your controller, or just doodle around within the editor about the xy pad.
I cannot get the xy axis pad to work. How did you turn of the parameter. When I touch th pad it just turns the filter effects on max/min but doesn't allow me to blend
@@playpm Hmm. Didn't work. Would there be a setting on Koala that is stopping it from doing just an on/off function rather than it's normal pad function on the Korg,
Hello michael, im also using korg nanopad2 as my controller. Im not sure which key I pressed by mistake. The pads now are acting like keyboard. Triggeting samples into its different scales. I want to switch back the pads to percussion mode. I already midi mapped each pad but it still wont work. Im thinking there should be a switch somewhere here where i can toggle its function between keyboard mode and percussion. Thanks for reading this.
Ni hao, Michael. I would be much obliged if you could help me with this question please. What happens with this controller, or any, when you switch to keyboard mode, not grid, in Koala? Hopefully the whole pad bank becomes the default keys on the chromatic, or scaled, Koala keyboard? Xie xie.
Oh, that's not how koala works, if you want it that way then you need to set your controller pads into chromatic/or scale notes, that's the limitation of koala.
@@playpm So, "what happens" when you try what I said? The pads still only trigger the sample pads , even though the same trigger note info should work on another page in Koala?? I know how MIDI works since I started in the 80s, and this seems strange to me. And wouldn't it be possible to set a bank/scene of 16 pads just for when doing what I said? Incidentally, never seen you use the keyboard layout, only grid once I think.
@@playpm Well yes, all of Koala's mapping is with MIDI note not MIDI Control Change information. If you can please try it and find out what happens and get back to me I'd be much obliged, as it means I would buy the MPD218 purely for Koala initially instead of your nanoPAD 2. I prefer the old school layout. I have a lot of other MIDI devices from over the decades that could be used to trigger but aren't so in keeping with boom bap beat making, and both of these controllers are so cheap! Thank you for your time.
To me koala is better than the mpc. The result is better but since I always need a phone to begin with its of course far less wasteful to use koala. But then on the same phone there's also inexpensive cubasis with MPE support, something akai cannot do even for their $2,000+ flag ship samplers.
Hi, So if i wanted to use Midi mapped portions for live music so i don't have to have 3/4 different keyboard & just for transitional sounds and a small lead part. why is Koala making it near impossible to just Map a sample in it's regular key and map 16 pads for all preset samples that are in no need of key change or additional effects. I've come across nothing regarding this mostly it's useing koala as a full immersive system in itself but wanting to use it with a live band I've gotten nothing i don't need loops or anything of the such. just need it to recall a piece of audio for inbwteen or the begginging/End of songs. Nothing found Please let me know
Koala has midi mapping function updated, you can map however you wish, if your controller has multiple banks. You can report to the developer about your expectations (I'm not the developer)
Great video! I am looking for a controller of some sort… but my main question is, what brand is you glasses? 😅 I have been looking for round ones for weeks
Appreciated, I don't think it has a brand, just a cheap plastic round one, no more than $30 in retail. Maybe try search round plastic glasses on AliEpress?
Hey buddy, tbh I don't recommend any tablets for serious music making, they're too damn expensive and not upgradable and will quickly get dated. My ipad pro 2017 got really slow in 2022, but my MacBook air 2014 works really great with lots of free dope plugins running in GarageBand. And this laptop only cost under 300 bucks nowadays, including a free smart qwerty keyboard on board. So my answer would be buy MacBook air 2017 for 500 dollars, then you can upgrade its storage to 2T for 200 dollars.
Aha! Actually I bought it on day one, but didn't like its sequence workflow, too much Ableton feel for a simple pad base sequence, guess it's Andrew Huang's favorite workflow, not really my kind, so I didn't play it that often, but I know it's really really powerful, even for mixing&mastering.
@@playpm Yeah, I understand! I bought it too, but haven't used it a lot. But I really like that you can do fx and different automations on each track, that's pretty unique!
@@playpm ohwow!! Im currently collecting the parts, inluding Ai, so can add guitars etc, Just wanna see how far i can push this. Thx alot for the videos master 🙏😀

All maps nicely when koala is in landscape mode; I find I rarely look at the screen once I have samples picked out. Best of both worlds, and only requires a wee USB hub!

Hi, I don't think sp404 can send midi signal out, all people do is using it as an audio effect box after their MPCs, does this count as using sp404 as a controller?
Clever config! I just got one question (and an important one for every koala sampler user!!): what do you mean by gate being a secret mute function? how do you know which sample will be cut off first?. thx
Oh, it can be a little bit tricky, if you trigger play in koala, then you can use GATE to gate out some sample playing, once you dial it to max, all samples will be muted, and when you release the button, samples will get back in time with next midi signal trigger.

how do I map a knob as a button?
Buttons can be set to output cc signals too, you can set both on and off parameter value.
@@playpm u mean in the koala app settings?
No, you need to set this in midi controller editor from the controller brand.

Koala is only accepting signals coming from the controller, make sure your touch pad is sending cc parameter value, not on/off 0/127

It's free in Mac appstore.

Lpd8 is too limited, use it like an MPC One, pads only do pad thing.

Sadly we can't :(
