I'd love to be able to adjust sample chops with the nobs on my controller, as the screen can just be a touch fiddly when making those chops. The beautiful thing is that it's totally possible given the nature of Koala! Thanks for the videos man!
I feel you man, but I guess it's not easy to design the mapping workflow, if long samples short samples shares the same 128 midi value then you'll always find another way fine tuning chop heads. So what i did is chop it with touch screen, like I'm using a modern MPC ;)
@@playpm ah! i see! It didn't even occur to me to think about how fiddly the midi knobs might be in comparison to the knobs of an sp. I think my ideal would be first using the screen to navigate the sample and then using the knob to just adjust it a smidgeon to finalize the chop. I did see others using a little tablet pen though, which I'm going to try out at some point.

Honestly with the Koala app I have been able to make music and beats that would have requested hours of work with classic gear. I’m a dawless man but Koala is great 😊
This is an amazing alternative to the SP404. Honestly, it may prove a cheaper and slimmed down alternative to the MK2, which allows users can save/access sounds packs onto an SD card.

I'll have to look around for that usbtg adapter, and see if it works with my phone. I think there's a version of koala for android, right? Hope midi isn't too much of a pita to set up on it.
so the mapping takes up a few minutes which is fine, but is there a way to save the mappings so the process won't need to be repeated with any new project? might be a noob question, never dealt with mappings and don't own a nk2 yet.
Really cool! I tried the nanokontrol2 with my Ipad, everything works, I can asign effects, transport control and sequences. But I cant asign the sample pads, why could that be?
Ive got the solution for that on my own: you need to configure your desired button as a note inside the korg kontrol editor. Keep it up! Very inspiring sessions you do
@@Straw9 you have to change the "cc" pad in "note" ( in Korg control editor : "assign type" must be changed in "note" and no in "control change") and after that you have to click on "communication" and "write scene set" in the top screen in the Korg Control Editor ( I hope it's clear, I didn't speak English...
I have problems with midi controller. Even if i use a midi keyboard when i play the keys It only changes the pitch of the sample . Basicly It Plays Always same sample in different pitch.... Any suggestions ?

@@playpm Tried the atom through that overly expensive camera connection kit and was just complaining about not enough power! I wouldnt mind but i had the ipad plugged into the power also. Got a cheapo USB powered hub off the net and it now works a treat :)

Man, I do own the nanokey studio, but I never showed it in my video as I can recall, how do you know this??!! I think it will work fine too, but I seldom use it cuz I hate Bluetooth controllers, battery, need to reconnect by hand everytime etc, but that's just me. Wrong spell, class compliant midi means standard midi signal almost every midi controller use.

I DL-ed the mapping, opened it in the Korg editor and wrote it to the NanoKontrol2. I see you have an adaptor connecting the cord from the controller to your phone. What kind of adapter is that? I can't wait to try it out.
@@playpm Hmmm. My nanoKontrol2 has a larger port, the kind you don't see much anymore, that they used to use for cameras and stuff like that. The other end on the cord has a male end that you can plug into a PC.
It doesn't matter what nanokontrol2 port has, you will always need this chord for connecting nanokontrol2, what you need is one the other side, you need to convert the big USB into something you can plug into your phone. Like my comments above, you can search on Amazon.

But there's one feature i find might be very interesting as nanoKEY studio has a X-Y pad. What do you effects do you recommend to map to X-Y pad?

I have nanokey studio too, I found x-y pad controlling 2 parameters is little bit hard to master, so I set my x-y pad controlling into one same parameter in controller editor and mapped it into filter on koala. But this is just my preference, you can also map it into stutter or other effects.
Koala has a few sample effect in sample page, but the perform page only supports master effect, but you can resample single sample with master effect on if you need it, on this one it's not as convenient as sp404.

Although I'm having an issue mapping the pads to koala for some reason. I've managed to get everything else mapped but not the actual sample pads. Any idea what I could be doing wrong? I downloaded youe settings file, but I don't quite know what to do with it. Sorry, I'm very new to this. 😂
I've mapped all the dial and slide functions to my nanokontrol2, using the midi mapper in koala sampler. But for some reason I cannot map the sample pads using the same method. I have no idea why. 🤷♂️
Lol I actually complained a little bit for having loose slider caps when I got my nanokontrol in hand, but after pairing it with koala I just peel all of them of with smile.
yeeup! found a used ipad mini3 and bought a mpd218 for a little over 200$CAD....That's a big fucking farcry from blowing 700$+ down the drain for an SP. (This is subjective though, lol! I just wanna make beats while banging pads!) Pardon my french.
I found that Koala is really buggy on both phone and the Mac, and annoying to use. It's also 4.99 but then you have to upgrade to have full feature set; it's impossible to do anything without piano roll, for example. With all things considered, Andrew Huang's Flip is a much better deal, it offers much more for similar price. If it only had Mac support, it would be perfect...
yeah flip on mac would be cool; I woulda thought it'd at least be available for the M1 mac, but nope. in fact the ios version of koala runs way better on mac than the actual mac version, which I found out when the dev answered to a problem I had within a couple hours. the dev is awesome! and for the money, even with samurai unlock, koala is an absolute steal. IMO a dev who gives a f*ck deserves to get paid. and herein lies the rub: when comparing apps like that, about the first thing I check is: how frequent are the updates? how responsive, helpful are the devs and how long does it take them to implement features the community wants? things over at flip seem to move pretty slowy, which makes me more reluctant to part with my money.

You might need to turn midi mapping on in koala settings.

Need to set those button behavior into midi note in controller editor on your computer. They might be in midi cc rightnow.
I cannot assign the pads. Do you have to use korg editor?
Yes you do have to use the editor to make some buttons sending midi note value instead of midi cc.

Hi, you can try route your nanokontrol into koala track only within AUM, then all midi signal will only get into Koala.

It's a lightning to USB camera kit.
Oh no, it depends on what port does your phone has. If iphone then yes, lightning to USB, if Android then see if it's micro USB or USB typeC.

Hi, you can try check the settings for nanokontrol in korg controller editor, make sure these sliders output midicc signal from 0 to 127

in fact the ios version of koala runs way better on mac than the actual mac version, which I found out when the dev answered to a problem I had within a couple hours. the dev is awesome! and for the money, even with samurai unlock, koala is an absolute steal. IMO a dev who gives a f*ck deserves to get paid.
and herein lies the rub: when comparing apps like that, about the first thing I check is: how frequent are the updates? how responsive, helpful are the devs and how long does it take them to implement features the community wants?
things over at flip seem to move pretty slowy, which makes me more reluctant to part with my money.
