- Somerset Mall, located in the lower half of Kentucky, opened in 1981 and has been a staple of the community ever since. It stands today as a more vintage example of a mall. Featuring gorgeous planters and an amazing ceiling design, this struggling mall hangs in the balance as malls all over the country battle to remain relevant.

Something I noticed.
I experimented with HDR exportation in this video, and what I found was the lighting got blown out and the colors look really contrasty. I dont think I will continue to do this in the future, although funny enough it made the mall look a certain way that almost feels nostalgic or something. Idk.
I saw Return of the Jedi at this mall in 1983. I was ten. Many days ago.
Your videos are really cool! I actually come visit the Somerset Mall a lot even today. The Bookland and Bath & Body Works are my usuals, and of course the seasonal Spirit Halloween when it’s open. I love old malls like this. It’s sad to see them empty, but going in is like stepping back in time. Thank you again for sharing!

Great video! This is my mall, been going to it since opening day when I was in 6th grade . The Bookland has been there since around 1990 1991. Dawahares has been empty since 2008 except for the yearly reincarnation of Spirit Halloween since 2012. The Bath and Body Works is probably leaving this year as another location opened just a mile up the road. The mall location has been dealing with a black mold infestation and was shut down for a month last fall to deal with it.

If the camera is an issue, try getting an osmo pocket. Even the first model is great. I still use a pocket one as the features on the newer models are not really needed for filming a mall. It’s also good because most people would never notice you have it in your hand.
I've figured out how to, for the most part, record steadily with a smart phone, but I make myself STUPID obvious when I do it. Having to dodge security and be paranoid of people is driving me to look into an osmo
I've never seen or heard of Bookland before this video and I thought I had been in this mall before. Apparently not...
If you ever go to Wisconsin (dead mall is: Brookfield Square Mall and Valley View Mall (la crosse) (Brookfield square in Brookfield) good open mall Southridge bc the ceiling is very aesthetic
Planning to check out the mall in Richmond, KY as well? It's fairly dead but a couple stores still open and the DMV is there, it's a neat and almost dead mall
