Here's an interesting story. During the 2020 covid lockdown. I was talking to a fellow photographer and ex Chicago resident associate, who makes Chicago style pizza. One day, during the lockdown. I was curious to see if Detroit had a style of pizza, because you always hear about either Chicago and New York. That RUclips search, both opened up a goldmine and history about the pizza. I was raised in the Detroit area. But reside in San Francisco. Before the lockdown. I'd took a few people to this Detroit style pizza joint. I was baffled, because I'd never heard of it. Well. It turned out that I had it via "Buddy's Pizza." But I had no idea that it was unique to Detroit. And that over 30 years ago. During the lockdown. I'd learned that Detroit pizza is not only popular here in the Bay area California. It's popular all over the world. And we owe this to a Detroit native who won a pizza contest at a convention in Las Vegas. Everyone one from all over the world whom were at that convention wanted his recipe. Now you have this Korean restaurant over in Korea that makes Detroit pizza with a Korean twist. Last. The guy from Detroit who's name escapes me. He'd died back during covid. He had brain cancer. He was only in his 40s.
Oh Detroit style is way better than the Chicago style. I don't care for thin crust at all. But I have to admit I'm not a big fan of deep dish either. I'm a simple man. Give me Dominos, or BC's , or a quick Little Cezars on the go and I'm real happy. And if I'm passing through Sault Ste Marie, give me Zorba’s for a real treat.
@@paulrodgers5559 hmm... interesting ideas. Let's think about how that could be done. I'm not sure the pizza could be kept fresh enough in a cooked state to be kept in a machine already cooked. If cooked, frozen, and reheated I also think that's not gonna be good, like reheated Little Caesars, bleh. There's a reason they don't even do that with fast food. So the only option is to keep it in cold storage uncooked. I imagine with enough power and the right tech the cooking time could be brought down to 3 minutes... but the bread would still need some precooking... Yeah I guess I'd be happy enough with that, as it's basically frozen pizza you'd get from the grocery, but it's hard to beat fresh cooked. Little Ceasars is a great value and you get what you pay for there. Maybe some frozen pizza beats in flavor but it's still frozen pizza. Do you think some frozen pizza beats cheap Little Ceasars?
Big up Detroit. We got people doing this style of pizza in Dublin now too, fascinating to hear its origins!
So it's not just England😮? Saw the two guys from Jolly talking about it.
underrated city
Detroit Style is soooo wonderful!! Glad it’s going nationwide! I would love if Buddy’s would expand outside of Michigan!

Buddy's or Cloverleaf? YES!!! 💯
Chicago vs Detroit pizza is a better battle than NYC because of the deep dish factor.

Sounds like you'd be happy enough to pull a slice from a vending machine.

Delicious pizza! Love Jets pizza. Hate the pizza hut version. It's gross
Biondis old recipe not the new

square pie, oxymoron
I never liked detroit pizza. It isn't as bad as Chicago's as you're less likely to drown in the sauce. Still not a fan
Better than NY's though....
Honestly, NY Pizza is awful. @@steve19811
