I'm so grateful that I'm living at the age where tons of creations come into existence. Telling me that there are so much possibilities. Reminding us that dreams can be achieved in our precious one lifetime.
I think we're probably about fifty to a hundred years off, just a guess. And I do realize roughly how much time and energy goes into projects like this--I was in no way trying to belittle anyone's achievements. I was just suggesting that we have a faulty understanding of what intelligence and learning actually are, as I'm sure you realize. That said, this is one of the most amazing feats of engineering I've ever seen!
This is what makes me happy. Robotics coming so far in so short a time. A day will come where we can own a robot similar to ASIMO for only a few thousand - and I couldn't be more excited.
This video shows the progression of it all, by him walking the steps to show what he has overcome already, the leak to represent the leaks in his mind (thus far, until AI) and he is learning new things by looking into the telescope... the future is simply amazing
I have seen Asimo on "Daily Planet" and "Sci-Q" and each time it seems more amazing! He has the ability to remember names and remember commands! It's not exactly A.I. but its a sort of software that takes voice commands.
Wow... I know it's all programming, but, it left an impact on me. Seeing a 'bot as tall as me (I'm short- sue me) do all that, react to his enviroment... Wow. It was so cute when he waved to the suit (Hi daddy!) and spreading his arms in the airplane thing (Wheeee!)... Wot.
The part where he waves at the astronaut suit just kills me! It's so.. Cute and wow at the same time. Can you just imagine all the algorithms and shit going through that robot when he does that!
that robot is sooo awsome it can learn from doing things and even in the newer ones learn to comunicate (actual speach) from what its heard before and even remember a persons name AWSOME! 6/5
@johnchen0213 Well, you can go see one at Disneyland if you want. It's pretty amazing and they actually have a show the let's Asimo show what it can do. I'm not sure how much of what it's saying comes from a programmed script or anything though, or someone backstage. I don't think they sell them yet.
very true i watched a doc. on it yesterday it is able to make judgements and when shown an object, i.e a car, it is able to think what the car looks like it is used for -wheels-driving and can tell you what it is, without being told, it will remember it forever, its a very smart machine, and it is also able to understand that it should be careful of bigger objects than itself, they recently programmed it to stop people from trying to cross the road when there not supposed to, its very smart
ASIMO's ability to identify the source of sounds has been improved, and it can distinguish between voices and other sounds. It can respond to its name, face people when being spoken to, and recognize sudden, unusual sounds such as that of a falling object or a collision, and face in that direction. It is also able to respond to questions, either by a brief nod, a shake of the head or a verbal answer. - Wikipedia
well the cool part is that hes not controled.. with the newer softwares he acts n lerns like a kid would.. as far as i know that is.. he is probably programed for this video tho. but hes amazing.
i think this commercial gives ppl the wrong impression that this robot can perform these tasks on its own. everything was programmed, and to actually achieve the goal of a true robot that has a mind of its own, being able to recognize itself in its reflection and "think", it wont be another tens of years, if not longer.
There are 5 recognition technology that asimo has. #2 is recognition of human postures and gestures. #3 is environment recognition. if 2 and 3 is applied, it could be possible that all of those subtle, humorous, human like gestures that asimo makes may be true. The japanese dream of making robots that arent just advanced. They want a robot like the show "ATOM" that these adults used to see as a child: a robot with human behaviors.
As much as I love Asimo, and hope to see more robots in the public realm in the future, sometimes I wonder if it was a good idea just one letter short of "Asimov"
I had a horrible vision about this THING. The sky was stained red. Everywhere there was suffering and death, and the people cursed: Asimo the Terrible!! Asimo the Terrible!! and then wept...
Actually this one is an animation they made for the commercial...not the real robot. :P in this commercial it really has some character but in the real life you can't see that character....or not yet. XD
the backpack is a built in computer because every step it takes it calculates like how far whats infront of it or like when he climbs the stairs the height and length so it can climb without falling
OMG!!!!! i want one!!!!! it's sooooooo cute!! when it shakes off the water from its head and when it was looking into the telescope and when it was waving its arm when it was in that plane section! so cute
I've already seen protopypes of asimo that use a real constructivism algorithm to LEARN. I know 99,9 % of the robots out there now are fully pre-programmed, but these certain prototypes are just programmed to learn (patterns etc...). I'm gonna look it up again just to be sure and you should too. Of course it won't be autonomous yet, a baby isn't too but it's pretty amazing too see some REAL robot intelligence development
You may laugh but you've actually touched on a very important subject. One day robots (or by definition Androids) may be indistinguishable from ourselves. Is this a bad thing? Not necessarily.
Why mark him down on this? He's right, I'm a programmer and just programming a simple robot with 5 motors to lift a ball, capture it, kick it, and drive around took about 70 pages of C code. With the functions on ASIMO, the code to do what he does now must be like 10,000 pages of code, the file is probably several gigabytes at least.
Anyone see this as an aid for people who are blind? I think this would be a great asset to someone living in a big house or in an unfamiliar environment. Surely they'd ahve their cane and guide dog with them, but the guide dog can't explain what's around them. Asimo probably could, and this would eliminate the need to set aside, say, an airport worker to help them throughout the terminal. Just my thoughts on it but I think it's an amazing project and should come to pass (I'd like it to).
I had the chance to see real Asimo in Japan (I am Japanese). He is pretty cool. This commercial is made by CG from what I understand but as I said, do search on RUclips by typing " Asimo" you will find many video clips about him. Asimo was created to help people in the future ( elderly, disabled, children etc).
@wackowx well, for dangerous job like running into building on fire and rescue people, robots are not useless. They reduce the cost of space exploration as well. So, it's all about how you integrate robot into your life.
in order to make a laser (not lazer) that could have any potential of actually harming someone or something, would require a generator the size of the empire state building.
i just love this creation. thanks for the high quality vid!
I'm so grateful that I'm living at the age where tons of creations come into existence. Telling me that there are so much possibilities. Reminding us that dreams can be achieved in our precious one lifetime.
When it stopped at the stairs, I expected it to say,"Stairs?! Nooooooooo!"
I saw ASIMO at Disneyland and I must say I was VERY impressed. It was incredible!

WOW. Awesome commercial. Anyone know where a person could download a hi-resolution version of this?
"Oooh! Ahhh! That's how it always starts. Then later there's running and screaming."-- The Lost World: Jurassic Park
-Clap- BRAVO. Truly amazing and awe inspiring commercial. Love it.
how do you explain some of the asimo robots serving coffee and beverages in the honda tokyo cafeteria????
This video shows the progression of it all, by him walking the steps to show what he has overcome already, the leak to represent the leaks in his mind (thus far, until AI) and he is learning new things by looking into the telescope...
the future is simply amazing

this brings tears to my eyes, we have come so far..
OK, the airplane arms brought a smile to my face.
Absolutely astonishing! Asimo continues to amaze me!
Wot.

its one of the best commercials i have ever seen!
it's cute! i want one!! wonder how much it costs!!?
i like asimo since i first saw him in 1993.
maybe he walks like wall-e but he/it is still a masterpiece of technician
honda has amazed me once again with asimo... i would love to own one!
"robot house attendants within the next decade"
that's made my day!!
I FREAKING LOVE ASIMO he's adorable. :) and very cool with his real leg motions and arm motions and learning process
how much is this thing or is it out right now i like to know
that robot is sooo awsome it can learn from doing things and even in the newer ones learn to comunicate (actual speach) from what its heard before and even remember a persons name AWSOME! 6/5
Just the whole concept of robots and advancing Teck. this far it just makes me want to cry.
wen can i get one ?
@johnchen0213 Well, you can go see one at Disneyland if you want. It's pretty amazing and they actually have a show the let's Asimo show what it can do. I'm not sure how much of what it's saying comes from a programmed script or anything though, or someone backstage. I don't think they sell them yet.
Speechless. I think someday we'll have one in our house doing hosekeeping things. :D
That'd be nice. I hate doing my bed. Haha
Anyone know the name of the tune that plays during this?
well the news on asimo webby did say it will stay at disneyland usa for sometime. :)what did asimo performed there?
The part where it looks into the TV and see's himself is priceless.
very true
i watched a doc. on it yesterday
it is able to make judgements
and when shown an object, i.e a car, it is able to think what the car looks like it is used for -wheels-driving and can tell you what it is, without being told, it will remember it forever, its a very smart machine, and it is also able to understand that it should be careful of bigger objects than itself, they recently programmed it to stop people from trying to cross the road when there not supposed to, its very smart
he is so adorable...I luv it when he gets the drop of water on his forehead...cute
seriously how can you not love Asimo ?
he taps into that inner child and innocence we all once shared ... * hugs asimo BE MY FRIEND!
* cough .. ahem
Dude, if anyone likes turtles it's Asimo. That thing on his back is like a giant turtle shell.
Wai, Asimo is so cute! I know it's reactions were programmed, but they make it feel so alive!
are these actually on sale then?

So how long till I can say "Hello Mr. Data"?
i saw a demonstration a few years ago they are really cool. it was at diisneyland oddly enough
I got to meet Asimo at the FIRST competition in St.Louis.
He was so cute, I just wanted to give him a cookie.
i love asimo it actually talks like a human! i saw it at disneyland at innoventions it was so cute i wish i could have one but they cost so much :(
well the cool part is that hes not controled.. with the newer softwares he acts n lerns like a kid would.. as far as i know that is.. he is probably programed for this video tho. but hes amazing.

This "More forwards, please!" from 1:22 to 1:24 - Was that saied by Asimo?
@bobfrompikecreek lol.. why would they make a CG for the commercial when they already show Azimo in live shows?
can it really notice defects in things like a leak? and It can notice itself? If it really does wow
Hey Garrison Keillor. Will they have robots in Lake Woebegone?
With cloud computing and the internet a robot with a functioning AI could potentially learn almost anything in no time.
Just so exciting. ASHMO can help human for who can not talk, see, move, or event of an emergency!!! Go forward!!!
As much as I love Asimo, and hope to see more robots in the public realm in the future, sometimes I wonder if it was a good idea just one letter short of "Asimov"
took the words straight out my mouth
This will sound crazy, but nope. This is entirely shot live. Pretty incredible stuff.
how old is asimo??????
Awesome commercial BTW
I had a horrible vision about this THING. The sky was stained red. Everywhere there was suffering and death, and the people cursed: Asimo the Terrible!! Asimo the Terrible!! and then wept...
I want one! How much are/will they?
comes this commercial on tv..?
Actually this one is an animation they made for the commercial...not the real robot. :P in this commercial it really has some character but in the real life you can't see that character....or not yet. XD
It didnt fall down the stairs this time.
I saw Asimo at the Miraikan in Tokyo last month. Scared the hell out of me too.
How can you not love that thing
how much does asimo cost? if you dont know than how about an estimate
the backpack is a built in computer because every step it takes it calculates like how far whats infront of it or like when he climbs the stairs the height and length so it can climb without falling
Yeah, I remember seeing him at the world expo in Japan 2005.
Is that Garison Keeler (sp?) nararating?
I know its just a robot, but this commercial was adorable!
I love that they named it Asimo...reminds of Carman's Awesome-o 5000.
OMG!!!!! i want one!!!!!
it's sooooooo cute!! when it shakes off the water from its head and when it was looking into the telescope and when it was waving its arm when it was in that plane section! so cute
Is this for sale for the public, is it a project, or is it only for buisnesses?
imagine programming that thing..
Truly Show's What We Are capable of doing...
I've already seen protopypes of asimo that use a real constructivism algorithm to LEARN. how called the music...anyone know ?
so when can i buy one????

AWSOME! from the looks of this we have accompilshed sentience!! we asimo and Vavle's AI director!
is asimo an abbreviation, cos if you add a v on the end it spells asimov who is the author of i robot.
Is that Garrison Keilor as the voice over?
he sure is :) And this is "just the beginning". Think of a few years from now.. And I love this commertial.. Makes me sence the future :)
Anyone see this as an aid for people who are blind? I think this would be a great asset to someone living in a big house or in an unfamiliar environment. Yes, yes. We all know that it's just a robot, but it's still an amazing step in technology.
No fair!! this ad wasn't aired here in japan!! why in the UK!?
is it autonomous like aibo?
I wouldn't get this thing to serve me I'd just come home and give it a hug!!
Holy that guys voice was like "give us more time then you'll be OUR pets" spoooooky
in order to make a laser (not lazer) that could have any potential of actually harming someone or something, would require a generator the size of the empire state building.
Honda: By 2025, you shall have your own Asimo.
i remember this advert is was so cool love the bit with the water
I wish I could buy an ASIMO. He seems like someone who would be fun to play with.
Toy!?
He's one of the most advanced robots in the world. He can even walk up stairs!
So how do you use it?
I wonder if the "Ghosts in the Machine" theory will ever come to fruition. Imagine fighting a war against armies of those things, lol.
A commercial? They sell these thing now?
You know...I can't imagine how lonely an Asimo must be. There aren't that many.
