    This is one of the most golden videos I’ve ever seen in my whole life. I call family meetings every Sunday and force everybody to watch it. My son hasn’t really gotten the grasp of the concept yet and he’s starting to piss me off. I’m giving him one more week. He thinks being four years old is an excuse

    Thanks Kevin. "Rapport breaking tonality" means speaking with an unapologetic, non-supplicating, downward tonality. On the other hand, you can break rapport through many means some of which include eye contact, body language, tonality and the actual words you say.

The most important element I've missed is that a downward or neutral vocal inflection can still be rapport seeking along with body language. Intention is key.

    I'm fascinated with these ideas, and taking them a step further. Meaning: the tone of each individual word, and the subtleness of whether it's a command or a question, and how to use this in persuasion (for the good). I guess this could be viewed as involving NLP, perhaps.?

    Whenever I talk to a police officer I always do it in a seeking tone, subconsciously. Would it be better to talk to them in a neutral tone? Or are there situations where you ought to use a seeking tone? This is in the context of getting pulled over btw

    • @CharismaMatrix
      @CharismaMatrix  9 лет назад +10

      ***** Good Question. You'll notice that the police officer likely used a very rapport breaking tonality with you, to help elicit a supplicative, or seeking tone from you.
      There are situations when using a supplicative tone can be effective, but always be sure that it is used intentionally, rather than by accident. Only use to it accomplish something specific, that can only be done through that type of frame.

    hi, this is a cool video, but i wonder what would happen if you approach someone with a rapport seaking voice: "Hey! how are you whats happening?" then the second sentence respond with a joke and de third sentence respond with a rapport breaking tonality. after that just talk normal. wouldn't that just boost your charisma? it seems like you build a kind of relationship with someone this way very quickly and make you charismatic. i'd like to hear your opinion about this

    Sounds very interesting and lots of good advice, but I think it's overly simplistic.
    Off the top of my head I can think of many situations that I speak with a rapport seeking tonality to loved ones, or they speak to me like that, and it doesn't come across like either of us respects the other more than themselves - it certainly feels like we're absolutely equals.
    Unless I'm missing something and this 'categorising' only applies to people you're not very close to.

    Hi Barron, thanks for the wonderful tips. Is the rapport neutral and breaking happening in ALL sentences or just the opening introduction? I’ve been practising these low downward ending pitch and my family said i’m monotonous like a robot; and asking question with a low pitch instead of ending with a high one showing curiosity
    . Also during remote interviews, are we supposed to have these neutral and breaking tones as this may make us less engaging or likeable. Seeking your advice to further improve.

    Barron, Awesome videos. Just watched like 10 of them straight, crazy interesting. Iv always been really interested in verbal and non verbal communications. Id appreciate some advice. I have a stutter and of course the perception exist that I'm nervous or submissive. I'm really neither; much of the time I wonder why people who don't stutter are so afraid to speak and feel awkward in social situations, No judgement, everybody has their thing. I can walk up to anyone and start a conversation and I enjoy conversing. I am a serial entrepreneur, book and street smart, a veteran, I have an awesome social circle and colleges. I feel that I have strong situational and physical confidence. Is it possible for a tonality to somewhat override the perception of weakness, nervousness or lack of confidence or intellect? The next step in my career is basically sales and contract negotiation, Id like my customers to feel I am fully confident that I can handle their needs and am the go-to-guy they want. Thanks Shane

    Awesome! I'm in highschool and the advice that you gave is really practical. Keep it going, I enjoy it!. One question, is report breaking tonality similar to a downward tonality? I think rapport breaking is when you purposefully sound the sentence more negatively while downward tonality is just changing the inflection and tone of the last few words more like a commanding tonality but achieving the same result of a neutral tonality. Awesome and Thank you! I'm going to check out your other vids!

    Since masks are more acceptable now. Can a mask or ear-insert be made that analyzes ones voice and auto-corrects the pitch and tone if needed to sound positive?
