Something I've learned the hard way on my runs through Oblivion: this game really loves throwing leveled monsters at you, even during quests, so if you decide to fuck off and say, complete the Mage's Guild Quest and level up to something considerable before going to Kvatch, the Daedra that spawn there will be absolute satan spawn and kill literally everything in their path, including AI friendlies that are still low level. You have to babysit them if you want them to survive. Even worse on escort quests, and yes Oblivion has them. @Leon Schuring its def more of an rpg than Skyrim is. Also the quest lines in oblivion are longer than the 8 missions in Skyrim. The companions were such a letdown.
@@joshp2542 You actually feel like you've earned your titles in the guilds in Oblivion. In Skyrim you just walk in the door and they crown you king for nothing.
I don't think the arrow "dips to the earth" sooner. However, one thing I know for fact is that skyrim actually shoots the arrow slightly upward, rather than straight at the crosshair. For skyrim there's a setting you can write into a .ini file, in order to get aiming to feel just as it does in oblivion. (Look up "ArrowTiltUpAngle")
Though it kinda does have autocorrection, which I believe can be turned off. Otherwise whenever in Skyrim you get the cinematic shot animation, the arrow will miss at greater distance. Always tried to turn it off whenever playing Skyrim, since it made very long shots impossible.
Believe it or not, I've made my Oblivion kind of like this. I got so tired of everything (including me) taking fifty hits to kill at high levels that I turned the difficulty down to the minimum to multiply my damage by 6, but then I scrapped together a mod to give myself only a few max hit points (although even a few points can last a while when enemies deal 1/6 damage...)
Fun fact: while the Illusion skill is used to level up Personality, the Personality attribute does not in any way influence the magnitude and/or power of Illusion spells. Thanks, Bethesda!
He made a few more mistakes. I notices he said “elder scrolls 4” when he should have just said cyrodil, and he mistakenly called some mythic dawn cultists “daedra.”
The game's engine is weird when it calculates your starting health. If you want it to actually be 1 point, you'd have to type in "player.setav health -79" to set it to 1 since it's based at 80. Although, iirc setting it to 1 would strangely knock it down to 0 immediately and kill you. So it's probably better that it didn't work.
"Stealth gives bonuses to acrobatics, light armour, marksman, Geoff's farming and Mercantile supply store..." Nice to know this playthrough is about Ryan's life before Achievement Hunter
I love the AH references you throw in occasionally! A lot of my younger days were spent watching Jack and Geoff doing HORSE or fails of the weak which was my source of laughter back then, now I get the same reaction years later from your videos, those gut punching laughs, love it. Keep it up!
I appreciate him taking a second to point out how underwhelming Skyrim is in comparison to Oblivion. In think in Skyrim the most you got was rocks falling form the sky, yeah real cool. In oblivion in rained FLAMING DOGS for a SIDE QUEST.
The games kinda just fall off in interesting events and scale more with "playability". Oblivion scrapped all the goofy magic of Morrowind for better gameplay overall and Skyrim went a step further by scrapping good story for slightly better gameplay after the fact. Morrowind was the king of encounters, the holy grail of awesome quests but it aged like shit. Oblivion is a good middle ground between Morrowinds god tier quests and Skyrims Dwemer Ruins that all lead to Blackreach.
Funnily enough I've played through NV at least a dozen times and almost never hear that. Its actually rare for an NCR solider to say it. Yet it's a meme.
Yeah so a few things: Yeah the game's level scaling is rather brutal because it scales much closer to your level than Skyrim does. Doesn't mean you can't get powerful though, magic is the answer. Please for the love of GOD, don't give up Azura's Star on any future playthroughs. The Mace of Molag Bal literally doesn't work, and outside of that, the relics in Oblivion are so much more powerful than in Skyrim. Thieves Guild is very rewarding, it gets you a mask that lets you kill anyone without suffering any reputation penalties. This is important because Knights of the Nine stuff doesn't work unless your negative reputation is zero. The Arena gives you a lot of stuff that doesn't scale with level, making it great early on, and useless later on. Fingers of the Mountain is a wonderful spell, although it does the Skyrim thing where it scales to your level when you obtain it, and stays there. Ghosts are not like normal enemies, they can only be killed with magic, enchanted weapons, Daedric weapons, and silver. If you see a unicorn in the field, I recommend not killing it, it sometimes bugs Hircine's quest. Wearing armor actually makes magic weaker. There's a hidden stat on armor that determines how much magic is affected. You can use glitches involving magic and enchantments to permanently increase your stats so high that you can yeet anyone into the shadow realm with a single punch, because stat increases do not increase enemy stats, only levels do that. Levelling and stats are so strangely scaled that to go into it would take hours, but check UESP for info on that, it really does matter. The bounties are from killing allied NPCs, and the message when one was killed is a flag for Lucien Lachance to invade you while you sleep, to invite you to the Dark Brotherhood
Yeah the ultimate build in this game is a level 1-5 Breton wizard with 100 in all magic skills wearing regular clothes enchanted to give 100% reflect damage and 100% resist magic and casting custom spells which, on top of their intended effect, fortify your magicka enough to chain cast infinitely.
You would think someone who rolleplays such a specific character would be familiar enough with the lore to know gods and deadra don't experience time linearly.
@Gopher Better with mods maybe. Vanilla Oblivion is garbage, other than the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves guild quests. Ok, quests in general are better, but the gameplay is trash
“I never feel powerful because the enemies never stop leveling with me.” A common complaint about this game. Did he even ever get a different bow besides the starter one?
The leveled lists are kind of dumb in the game. When every single bandit wears full glass armor and all the marauders are clad in full daedric sets - god knows how they got that - the game still throws steel and dwarven bows at you. Even then, all enemies way over lvl20 still carry iron arrows for some reason. The only reliable way to get a very likely upgrade is to find Hatred's Soul in an oblivion gate. Other than that chances are almost impossible to find anything better than a steel bow before you finish the game without sidequests.
You should try to play with a unleveled mod, it's like a different game. It's a good experience if you know these games well and want a real challenge.
Yup, pretty common complaint. You really don't get "poweful" until you either decide to lower the difficult to where everything is cake, or get to a high enough level where the enemies you commonly see start hitting level caps. The latter takes fucking forever.
As much as it divides us, and that all our bitching has lead to Bethesda focusing on money, the variation between what we like in the games is good. If the whole “the game you are playing is an elder scroll” meta-narrative is taken to heart then it is something to be embraced. By definition of what an elder scroll is it is most likely that each game is an entirely separate version of Nern. We should be glad that we hate and love each game in different ways. Just the same as the various people’s of the world find new ways to love and hate each other throughout the different eras.
4:25 game looks better now than back in the day even without mods. It's because back in the day only NASA supercomputers could run this game on medium settings, the rest of us had to stick to the lowest possible settings like some kind of console pesant
If I remember my time modding and cheating Oblivion right, Health is a different attribute from maxhealth. I'm only about 9 minutes in the video, but every time he's opened the console he has tried altering Health, not maxhealth.
Nice! Enjoyed this! I have already beaten this in a single run without taking any damage or any hits (reset if I get hit) I enjoyed the insight in this though!
The crime you committed was killing that guard in the bruma gate. Any guards you damage or kill in both the kvatch assault or the bruma gate are still counted as crimes once the quest is complete.

I had to pause the video till I stopped laughing.
No wonder it feels weird whenever I use bows.
It's like playing Zelda at just 3 hearts.
Fun fact: while the Illusion skill is used to level up Personality, the Personality attribute does not in any way influence the magnitude and/or power of Illusion spells. Thanks, Bethesda!

Can you beat Fallout NV Without hearing "Patrolling the mojave almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter" while siding with the ncr?
Funnily enough I've played through NV at least a dozen times and almost never hear that. Its actually rare for an NCR solider to say it. Yet it's a meme.
Just play the game muted
When I got this assignment I thought there'd be more gambling.
No. No you can’t. Even if you mute it you will still hear it echo within your soul.
Yeah so a few things:
Yeah the game's level scaling is rather brutal because it scales much closer to your level than Skyrim does.
Placeholder Placeholder thanks never even knew some of these game mechanics
Though the armor stat is hidden the out come is shown as a 'magic effectiveness percent'

I'm glad this channel still exist. Still...we lost a good one.
“I never feel powerful because the enemies never stop leveling with me.”
A common complaint about this game.
That's why I just never level up in this game, until it's time to do a Daedric Prince quest
I'm only about 9 minutes in the video, but every time he's opened the console he has tried altering Health, not maxhealth.
powerfulPlutonium It’s the same with Morrowind too

Oh, finally, someone who feels the same way about archery in Oblivion as I do. Oblivion might be very flawed, but goddamn do I LOVE the feeling of bows in this specific game.
I’m not trying to shit on any opinions here, all I’m saying is personally, I prefer Skyrim, namely because if an arrow moves that slowly it won’t puncture anything more than bare flesh.
@@yeetpeet9660 I don't exactly think Elder Scrolls is the best game to worry about realism in, but hey, I ain't forcing you to prefer Oblivion. Like whatever you wanna like, m'dude.
