Earned my sub sir. I've built one table for our play group but about to build another for myself. Planning on going crazy with add-ons and storage. I've watched about all the videos I could find on gaming table builds and yours is by far one of the best.
@@dustylaperriere9019 nope, they snap into place and then when weight is applied they tilt down slightly and sort of wedge themselves in place. Thank you for your attention to detail throughout the video process and talking through what you were doing. Hate the videos where it is a sped-up build of an item and no talking.
It is, WyrmWood has a bunch of different accessories already made and ready to go; poker chip holders, gaming accessory holders, hobby shelf, player desks, etc. They have a bunch of videos in their process and design.
@@JoGuev7177 Wyrmwood is what made me decide to build a table for my own, and that's what brought me here. As for the magnetic rail, ll other alternatives (French cleat, aluminum rails) have too many disadvantages. But it takes a bit more (expensive) materials. I just hope @make_or_die 's cats won't tear the play surface apart
One of the prettier game tables I've seen. I love how solid it is yet the top has a nice light "float" to it. The magnetic rails are really slick, the leather play surface is classy, and the diffused lights look great. I made my own table and wasn't aware of the diffusers at the time and now want to go back and add them- looks awesome. Great build!!
Very nice! This is very similar to the design I have been poking at for a while, so it is good to see how well yours turned out! I just like the simplicity of a table that doesn't have a lot of extra hinges, or pop-outs, or whatever. Just simple and functional. As mine is going to be built more specifically around TTRPG style games, my table will be a bit longer, with a section at one end for DM stuff. So the main play area will be about the same dimensions, but then a walled off section and another dip area for the DM pit. This way I don't need a tall DM screen, which always makes me feel like I am breaking connection with the players. The other big difference for mine, because I'm an IT guy, there will be an integrated PC and speaker system. Nothing too crazy, just a little NUC or modified laptop hidden in the table so that I can run 2 small screens in the DM screen to pull up notes, monster stats, turn order/conditions, and control the mood lights and audio. Curious if you are making a topper for yours? Because mine will effectively be replacing my dining room table, mine will need a topper. I think I have determined that it isn't worth the extra complexity and potential spill factor of making a topper that just fills the space inside. It is just easier to make leaves that sit on top of the whole table, rather than trying to make something more integrated. Then if someone spills during dinner time, it can follow the grooves all the way to the floor instead of spilling right over where the lights are.
O yeah you are definitely going to have to post a picture of that here whenever it's done. I still might make a divider in my table, essential just a piece of wood that perfectly fits the width of the table, this way I can separate multiple games. My design did include toppers, I just never made them. They would act just as yours would, sitting on top, covering the whole area of the table, not just the vault. The only thing I wanted to do that you didn't mention was cut around the vault on the toppers. It's hard to explain but I would cut grooves so the toppers would sit lower in the vault section than the actually sides of the table, this would be how I planned on locking the leaves in place.
@@make_or_die @CaedenV CaedenV, I you mentioned mood lighting etc. and the DM section, when I was watching this video and noticed that make_or_die did use addressable RBG strips, indicated by the chasing pattern, I thought he might want to play around with WLED or look into it at least, if you can find someone or make your own way to incorporate that into a turn based game, you could assign segments to the light strip and maybe the DM has a button to press on the end of a player's turn, and then the segment in front of that player could illuminate a different color. or for different moods/atmosphere WLED has some nice presets for flame effects, pulses etc. both of you had great ideas for the toppers, I've always disliked the designs that have them drop straight into the frame because of possible spills or even dust/crumbs that wouldn't be noticed until the next play session, maybe each piece that goes down could have an interlocking section using some sort of C or J channel, like the LED track, that would act as a channel for potential crumbs or liquids to go to the edge, and/or an edge all the way around where they recess could catch potential liquid. my only question with the current build, instead of brainstorming other ideas. I noticed it looked like you used 2 bolts for each leg, one on each axis, did you find that was stable enough for the legs or do they rack some side-to-side? it didn't look like you quite had enough room for 4 bolts, 2 in each direction, without compromising the strength of the wood, but I did really like the threaded inserts you used, and that gave it a much more 'professional'/'commercially available' feel to the legs, vs using a wood screw or something that I have even seen some commercially available tables use.
@@DonWRII love your comment about illuminating in front of a player when it's their turn. Hopefully soon I'll setup a whole Arduino under the table and program it full of fun animations like that. I was already thinking of one that would start off calm and steady and ramp up over time as the game intensifies. I have also seen other tables use a gasket of sorts between leaves to prevent liquid entering the vault. The two bolts did make me nervous also but your correct. I opted to risk them not being strong enough instead of removing the integrity of the wood. That said, bolted tight, the legs are really pinched in that corner and are quite strong, zero racking.

Extremely impressive. My buddy and I just built our first table. Well, we chopped up an exiting table and modified it. It was definitely an experience. It will be unveiled this weekend as a surprise to our players.
@@make_or_die We considered it, but opted to put a TV in the middle with a leaf to cover it up when we didn't want to use the TV. Added some sublimated images on acrylic, with lights underneath on the rails.

I've been wanting to build my own Wyrmwood-style table for a while - cool to see others doing the same thing. I love that rail/accessory system - that's the main thing I want to incorporate into my own build!
thats a pretty awesome table, would've done a bevel on the top inside edge of the hand rail for a glass sheet or something, could use it to cover the game surface for food intermissions or you could have another 2 or 1 really big game going on top while keeping the boards underneath in tact for like longer campaign type games
Thank you for sharing your build journey. I am about to begin a commission build for a DnD table; I’ve been searching the YT for “gaming table” build ideas & inspo. Anyhow, your thumbnail caught my eye, as it appears to be a larger table (compared to others I’ve seen). Looking forward to watching the rest of your video. Thanks again! 😊

I also like that you produce these videos with better style and quality that a certain Gin Butterfly with a million subscribers does. "Gin Butterfly" 😂😂😂 I think this is my favorite comment I've ever gotten on this channel! I'll take any comparison to the big dogs, not alone a positive one!
I think I have watched every game table video that RUclips will let me find. Yours is the best. I like your “sandwich” for vault side and arm rest and your solution for knockdown legs.
Congratulations- you’re now one of the best makers on YT with this table, I’m not kidding! Seriously, it’s great and I agree it’s better than any other build. While I personally would have preferred some taper on the legs to pull together the under bevel on the top, it’s a personal preference that does nothing to detract from how badass it is. I really love the led strip, but I’m not sure I can make it work on mine because I’m rabbeting out for a solid surface to go on top, so it can double duty as a dining table. That said now that I’ve seen yours I may have to rethink it to make the LEDs work. They look that great.
Thank you so much! I'm sure the title will be passed along not too far from now, but I cherish it in the moment 😊 I have a gaming room where this table sits exclusively for that purpose so I never had the need for the toppers, however I still had a plan for them. The toppers would work almost like the inverse of how you were describing. The toppers themselves would have notches cut on the underside edges so that they lock into place. They would also be the same size as the table so just like adding another layer on top but could be made out of a thicker material with thinner edges as they almost sit recessed into the table. Not sure if that makes any sense but there's a table sort of like this but without the notches called the phalanx. Check it out!.
Great build. Freaking love it. Now just mount a tiny fog machine under the table with the outlet leading to the play area for some extra EXTRA ambience. 😆
That is a sweet table, and those LEDs are great! I wish I had the equipment to make something like that, but you've obviously got the skills to use them!
Great video and really clear shots of what you're doing made the process easy to follow. Interested in modifying our current damaged table into a gaming table so constantly looking at others for inspiration. Don't have the tools for milling hardwoods so I was thinking of going down the route of plywood with nicer veneers.
This came out great. I love the accessory rail. If you play TTRPGs, a dice holder might be good for each player. Maybe a tablet or laptop stand for games w/ an app component, like Mansions of Madness.
I’ve never commented on RUclips but this video prompted an immediate like, subscribe, and comment. Absolutely gorgeous build that I will be using as the model when I attempt my own. Curious if there’s anything you’d do differently?
@@ABramble I feel honored! To be honest I haven't run into anything yet that jumps out like wow I definitely should have done that. The magnetic rail works perfectly, the depth is great, love the LEDs. I've probably played 100 hours at the table so far and am still in love!

Thanks! I've seen the tables with the phone chargers and speakers and all that. I thought I'd go simple, get the rail on and make what I need/want for it as I go.
Thank you for the video Also, as a fellow woodworker and guy familiar with production.... - really great design and execution (the woodworking). - excellent content and production quality - top notch! Questions; * if you would have done a topper - any thoughts on how you would have done it? * what are the dimensions? * How thick was the bottom ply for support? is it enough long term? Thanks again for the video.
Glad you enjoyed the video! So if I was going to make a topper I would cut the pieces to sit flush with the edge of the table but also cut a groove on the under side that matches the inside edge of the table, that way they wouldn't move. Dimensions are 70 x 40 inches The base is 3/4 ply. Very sturdy!
Amazing table and fantastic content. Great inspiration to me as I’m looking at making a table myself. Question though regarding the legs. I have not seen legs attached like that before. Most use mortise and tenon or a brace or both. Do you have any concerns about racking or stability with how the legs are secured?
Most manufactured table legs are secured the same way. I wanted the legs to be removable, mortise and tenon you would glue in I'm assuming. The table is sturdy. My gamers lean against it reaching for pieces, no issues.
Niсe build, just moving to my finally built house where I have place for wood working as hobby (apart from miniatures/terrains printing/painting) and I have a plan to make kitchen table transforming to tabletop table similar to yours. Btw how good magnetic rail holding cup holder? It's fine for coke can, but if it will be a bit bigger glass bottle of beer for example?
Noice! I’m making my own feature list for a possible gaming table build. I’d want outlets and USB charging ports. Regarding the magnetic strips… I want my rails to be strong enough to hold a laptop shelf. Wouldn’t magnetic strips have a limited weight capacity? I’m thinking about using universal T-track instead. Thoughts?
Ok so first, the steel is inset into the side of the table. That's important because for heavier items the magnets aren't doing much, the wedge is taking all the load. Think of pulling a middle Jenga block out half way, you'd be surprised how much that can hold especially in the case of a laptop holder that's wedged over a 12 inch span or so. The magnets help get it into position, then the wedge does all the heavy lifting. I'm very confident my table is capable of holding a laptop, but I will admit probably not in the most secure way. Steer away from T-Track. My mind also went there but abandoned it quickly once I realized you have to slide every piece down and out just to slide in a new holder, then reinsert the old one again. No, pulling off and sticking back on. I found this link to be the most helpful though and I think you would too : boardgamegeek.com/thread/1336005/game-table-design-series-game-table-features-rail Scroll down and checkout the "AP Table Wall Mount support". I purchased these and they worked great, but my fellow gamers and I compared the strength of the two, the aesthetics and just the snap of the magnetic rail really swayed us. You might really like that system though. Good Luck!

I definitely almost bought a fog machine for the final shots lol. Now I'm realizing your totally right and I could have used more than once!
Irwin clamps, Ryobi router and an Alibaba Domino. You are amazing. I wish you had my tools and i had half of your talent. Sweet table!
Man I wished I used Alibaba domino in the video, that's hilarious! 😂 Thank you btw!
Can't wait to see your chair build video!
Nice job mister. Looks great!
Awesome!
That is a sweet table, and those LEDs are great! I wish I had the equipment to make something like that, but you've obviously got the skills to use them!
This thing is beautiful. Well done.
Thank you very much! 🙏
Awesome job. Great video. Ive been wanting to build a 5' x 5' gaming coffee table and like some of your ideas.
Great video and table looks AMAZING!
Keep up the great work this is awesome
Beautiful build.
Lovely piece of work.
ooohh new scratch pad!!! niceee hoomannn
Great build
Pandemic looks under control at the end. (Beautiful table)
@@marcusburnett22 now for pandemic legacy!
Great video and really clear shots of what you're doing made the process easy to follow. Interested in modifying our current damaged table into a gaming table so constantly looking at others for inspiration. Don't have the tools for milling hardwoods so I was thinking of going down the route of plywood with nicer veneers.
And that's how 90% of tables are built so nothing wrong with that.
I'm into this video, and I'm sure there are tons of others. Great job on the table!
@@ThatsMistaTwistToYou I believe it was 1/8th inch thick
That thing is sweet. Great job but you lost me at the end with the LaCroix. 🤣
This came out great. I love the accessory rail. If you play TTRPGs, a dice holder might be good for each player. Maybe a tablet or laptop stand for games w/ an app component, like Mansions of Madness.
Thanks I need ideas for the next video where I'm building out accessories!
an excellent job. this was very relaxing and informative to watch. I appreciate you attention to detail!
also just subbed!
@@SleepyGal_ASMR according to RUclips analytics you just might be my first female subscriber! Much appreciated!
Amazing job!
looks sick
Nice build! the gray top goes really well with the cherry. Love it!
@@cdl1701thanks! I actually went back and forth with the color so many times. Almost got like a forest green but thought it might be too Christmasy.
Great video
Seriously cool table. I wish this had been around when I was designing mine last year as there is some stuff you did which was better than the way I did it.
@@diggis79 could always make a new one!
@@make_or_die Hahaha, god no, I don't have acess to a workshop like yours so did most of it with a drop saw and a router, so it nearly wrecked me. I'm super happy with what I have, and watching you sit and deal the cards gave me nostalgia for when I was able to do that on mine. Even after a year I still enjoy setting it up for gaming.
@@diggis79 yea as long as you enjoy it and its functional, all the other bells and whistles are nice but definitely not necessary.
That was enjoyable to watch, very well done.
You rock! Congrats on the build! Please do a video on the attachments :)
@@MarcoMartinsM my latest video includes piece trays and card holders that attach to the rails
@@make_or_die I was just watching it, thank you for sharing! I see some tables have the ability to snap attachments on the inside as well, I am not so sure that's a good thing, any thoughts?
@@MarcoMartinsM I think it can be useful, I opted for the lights instead which I enjoy more than attachments but that's just my preference.
@@make_or_die the LEDs are a great add though!
Awesome build!
Do you have any ideas for more magnetic mods around the outside? Maybe a dice tower that slots into the magnetic slot or a DM/GM screen. Also your cat looks like Adam Driver
So cool.
Love the build i def want to build mine using your plans! I may switch out the LED rail for a interior magnetic rail. But love you video. Great job!
This is definitely the best homemade gaming table I've seen on youtube. I'm hoping to make one myself but lack the tools to do it :/ hopefully someday I'll get there!
I hope so too! Sadly the pre-builts are so expensive.
Awseome! I made one but it doesn't look nearly as pretty. I like the leather, and may give that a try next time.
Bro, you shuffled those cards and during your test and didnt even crack a smile. Id be ecstatic, this is amazing and great video!
I'm very pessimistic until the thing I'm building is 100% done. I'm known for fing things up right before they are complete!
@@make_or_die it happens to the best of us! But when the final product is essentially right in front of you, I bet it's a great feeling!

Beautiful build! Great job on the video as well
Thanks for the great video. Really good editing and funny! The table is gorgeous. I was wondering what type an size of metal you used, what is the thickness. Looking into making a table myself and yours will be a great inspiration!
Awesome work! Love the magnetic accessory rail.
Thanks!

Piece of art! It's been a while since last video, but I'll waiting for a next one
Thanks for that! I'm gonna try uploading sooner next time
Amazing
wow, nicely done
Wow, that is an incredible board game table! Is it possible to get the plans somewhere? I would love to build one myself.
I currently don't have a website to host them on, so sadly they aren't available. Hopefully I will have one finished soon 🤞
@@make_or_dieI liked and subbed after stumbling upon your video, great work! I look forward to seeing more videos. I think that would be awesome if you could share the plans.

Nice work! The led work looks amazing. I’m currently spec’ing out the needs for my DnD group and particularly interested in the magnetic rail system you built. Looking forward to that video 😅
Should be starting on it soon!
Top notch work! I’m planning on building your table myself, it’s the simplest and best looking one I’ve ever seen.
Would you be able to link where you got the steel channel and the glue you used on it?
@@bradleyminger the glue and steel I actually got from my local Ace hardware shop.
I’m looking make my own table and just haven’t found what kind of table I want. This is the best version I’ve seen in many. Many. Many. Examples. We think alike with the diffusers and led for sure.
Do you have rough plans available for purchase?
I plan on building a website hopefully soon, I would post them there.
Incredible work ! Congrats :) Is it possible to have your 3D model? I'm interested to see how you designed it
I've had a few people interested in the plans/model if the interest keeps coming I'll definitely at least release the model.
Absolutely love this. Saving, subbing, liking, all of the above haha. I think when I go to attempt this myself I may try to add a removable top? Not sure.. But beautiful build!
I had a plan for a top but this is a dedicated gaming table so for me it was unnecessary.
what is the size of the 3 lumbers of the 3 principal frames? are they 2x3 first frame, 2x4 second frame and 1x5 the arm rest frame?
Really nice table, really nice project!
The best design is the one that accomplishes the need of the user! Not that overpriced tables that throw a bunch of useless addons that the only goal is to milk more wallet of the consumers.
congrats on your new table ;)
Thanks! I've seen the tables with the phone chargers and speakers and all that. I thought I'd go simple, get the rail on and make what I need/want for it as I go.
Thank you for the video
Also, as a fellow woodworker and guy familiar with production....
- really great design and execution (the woodworking).
- excellent content and production quality - top notch!
Questions;
* if you would have done a topper - any thoughts on how you would have done it?
* what are the dimensions?
Dimensions are 70 x 40 inches
The base is 3/4 ply. Very sturdy!
Amazing, and nice family too. Enjoy some hearty game nights on your throne of a table :)

good for you man. beautiful table and very well put together video. earned my sub for sure.
Bravo. Earned a sub. Well done 👍
Love it
@@DarkangaelBrokenwing me too!
The rails are very strong. My buddy hooked his full 50oz water bottle to it without an issue.
This is faaarking cool! Do you think the ply would be strong enough (not bend) to make this with a 6x4 foot play size?
Could easily add a few brace pieces underneath if need be.
Bro that F bomb came out of nowhere, you're mad mad about that Rubio monocoat 😂
@@JamesWelbes 😂 sometimes it just hits me man, you know what I mean!
I found this link to be the most helpful though and I think you would too : boardgamegeek.com/thread/1336005/game-table-design-series-game-table-features-rail
Scroll down and checkout the "AP Table Wall Mount support". I purchased these and they worked great, but my fellow gamers and I compared the strength of the two, the aesthetics and just the snap of the magnetic rail really swayed us. You might really like that system though.
Good Luck!
@@make_or_die thanks for taking the time to respond so comprehensively. I love understanding the thought processes being the design decisions.
