One Shall Make Or Thou Shall Die
I Bet You've Never Heard of This Material Before.
In this video I make custom board game piece holders and magnetic card holders for my board gaming table. I test my hand at mold making and cast them in a really awesome material called Jesmonite. The colors all turned out so cool, I promise you won't be disappointed making these for yourself!

How many hours you use to build the table?
@@Vicedrix if I had to guess I'd say 40. Plus another 8 for the design.
wow that cup holder rail is a wonderful idea!
what a neat video! please accept my subscription.
Hi, what type of makita do you use? thank you
Bought the jig a year or so back. Still need to get the router. Picking it up in the morning, right now with free Batt and charger on sale at HD. Best video I have seen on using it, thanks.
Keep up the great work this is awesome
Love this! Thanks for taking the time to share your work.
This is faaarking cool! Do you think the ply would be strong enough (not bend) to make this with a 6x4 foot play size?
Could easily add a few brace pieces underneath if need be.
Damn, I just watched the entire video and agree one of the best on RUclips. Great job and I came looking because I too am about to take on the madness of building my own gaming table. Thank you for your attention to detail throughout the video process and talking through what you were doing. Hate the videos where it is a sped-up build of an item and no talking.
I think you could easily knock the price down in half easily by using more sensible wood choices. But is a great and simple design. Especially the use of magnets to make it modular
I caught the cherry on sale but even without the sale cherry is one of the cheaper hard woods. Wood is just ridiculously priced in general.
Awesome!
That’s such a gorgeous table!! Awesome job.
I came across this looking for inspiration for my own build. Other than a hefty taper on the legs, I think this is pretty much exactly what I had envisioned. Looks great and has a lot of the functionality I was looking for.
Great video, these colors are insanely beautiful! So the table is already complete? What about the toppers?
@@elijahyourdad3937 thank you! This is a dedicated gaming table so the toppers were just gonna chill on the side 90% of the time so I skipped them.
@@make_or_die Make sense! I'm just kinda wanna see more about board game table as a player. But it's your table, and it's absolutely great!
Really nice build! Lots of good inspiration here, thanks for posting!
This is fantastic - If you ever fancy a second make I would gladly pay you plus materials, you know where to come. Amazing.
Great video
10/10 also a great size for game of Kill Team.
Sir: you are truly an artist. Beautiful work, and you should be very (and justifiably) proud.
Alright, so I just got this jig up and running, and after a few tests I have found that my original makes do not line up after cutting the mortise on both pieces. They are always off by the same amount too. I have measured the adjustable piece with the notch. And the notch is centered. Any idea why this would be happening?
Not exactly sure to be honest. I wander if you got a faulty jig. Are you sure to slide the router left and right all the way to the stop each time?
@@make_or_die I do make sure of that yes. I even returned to the mark and tried routing to both sides a 2nd time to verify. It's really strange. I assumed it would be a plug and play sort of thing, but it's not seeming to be after all... I assume it was plug and play for you then, correct? On a different note, it looks like the links to the bits you provided in the description take me to the same bit size. Am I missing something there too? Man, I feel daft. 🤦♂️
@@TheCHRISCaPWN I haven't had any issues with that. All mine have been more user error, like not holding it firm enough against the piece and it drifts a little. The bits are weird because it's a 8mm collet but the 5/16 bit fits them.
@@make_or_die Any idea why both bit links you provided go to the same 5/16" bit? I am looking for the 5mm bit. Can you share the link to it?
My question here, is that the the links, that you provided for Amazon purchase of Router/CNC upcut bits are for SAE units. I was under the impression that you had linked to Metric units for the Router/CNC upcut bits. Thought that was the reason you called out the 8mm collet. So the 8mm Router/CNC bit shank would fit into the Makita trim router. Where can I locate decent Metric Bits for this Domino Jig set-up? Can anyone provide any leads.. Thank You in Advance
The 5/16 bit fits nearly perfectly into the 8mm collet. The links I listed is the correct setup I'm using in the video.
Great video and table looks AMAZING!
great build looks awesome!
ooohh new scratch pad!!! niceee hoomannn
thats a pretty awesome table, would've done a bevel on the top inside edge of the hand rail for a glass sheet or something, could use it to cover the game surface for food intermissions or you could have another 2 or 1 really big game going on top while keeping the boards underneath in tact for like longer campaign type games
why do people act like they have to buy everything for a project at once, just buy a few items at a time until youre ready to build. doing that has helped me so much on my projects and budgeting.
Well in my case I needed to get exact measurements from certain parts before I could continue. But I tend to only buy the most necessary pieces first.
Bravo. Earned a sub. Well done 👍
BRO you table is $600 in wood because it waaaaaaaaay over bulit you have 3 x what you need to get the same look the from hight is also way to much and there is nothing keeping the card for get in between the top and the sides. it dose look nice though
@@asbjorndodsbringaren1945 the vault is that deep just in case I ever want to build toppers, I can have pieces standing in place without the toppers crashing down on them.
I feel like you are punching way above your weight. Im absolutely blown away by not only the table in how complex it is, but also how amazingly simple these organisers are. Well done sir.
Thank you!
man those colors really popped! Even the mixed one looked awesome! Great job dude.
Don't they tho! Thanks
Awesome job. Great video. Ive been wanting to build a 5' x 5' gaming coffee table and like some of your ideas.
For the magnet polarity, splitting your stack and inversing one lf the stacks while marking on the plate or something of the sort would provide the same result with only having to take magnets from the alternating stack while maintaining the same method of placement.
Yup that would most definitely work too. Knowing me though I'd forget which plate I grabbed from last.

I love this. I wish I had the skill and time to do this. I'm probably just going to buy an old pool table and boards to cover the top, maybe I can find a way to add detachable dice trays / drink holders
Never needs to be extravagant and simply starting is half the battle as he pointed out. A marketplace table that could use a new top is a great way to get a solid base for a fraction of the cost.
Great build
Earned my sub sir. I've built one table for our play group but about to build another for myself. Planning on going crazy with add-ons and storage. I've watched about all the videos I could find on gaming table builds and yours is by far one of the best.
@@tapanddestroy really appreciate this comment. 😀Hope to see your future build!
Beautiful build! Great job on the video as well
This is what people don't get about resin printing. Even bendable resins are often not going to be long lasting and durable enough for normal handling and use. If you are printing Mini's, or small tokens, or knobs or something then printing in resin is fine. But for most things you are going to print the blank or guide in resin, and then actually make the final product out of something else entirely. I love how the color pops on that material! I have a love hate relationship with plaster and have always painted over plaster because it just doesn't take color. I'll need to try this stuff and see how it does with darker colors. I do like colors that pop, but I'm not sure I'd be so bold with those particular colors lol. But if it can keep a rich dark red or navy blue, forrest green, etc. Then it would be a game changer!
@@CaedenV you are totally right. The resin is actually a very soft material, which is great for this use case because it makes it easy to sand. Jesmonite is definitely capable with darker pigments, even black! I think it is actually easier to pigment it those colors than these neon colors.
Very nice! This is very similar to the design I have been poking at for a while, so it is good to see how well yours turned out! I just like the simplicity of a table that doesn't have a lot of extra hinges, or pop-outs, or whatever. Just simple and functional. As mine is going to be built more specifically around TTRPG style games, my table will be a bit longer, with a section at one end for DM stuff. So the main play area will be about the same dimensions, but then a walled off section and another dip area for the DM pit. This way I don't need a tall DM screen, which always makes me feel like I am breaking connection with the players. The other big difference for mine, because I'm an IT guy, there will be an integrated PC and speaker system. Nothing too crazy, just a little NUC or modified laptop hidden in the table so that I can run 2 small screens in the DM screen to pull up notes, monster stats, turn order/conditions, and control the mood lights and audio. Curious if you are making a topper for yours? Because mine will effectively be replacing my dining room table, mine will need a topper. I think I have determined that it isn't worth the extra complexity and potential spill factor of making a topper that just fills the space inside. It is just easier to make leaves that sit on top of the whole table, rather than trying to make something more integrated. Then if someone spills during dinner time, it can follow the grooves all the way to the floor instead of spilling right over where the lights are.
O yeah you are definitely going to have to post a picture of that here whenever it's done. I still might make a divider in my table, essential just a piece of wood that perfectly fits the width of the table, this way I can separate multiple games. My design did include toppers, I just never made them. They would act just as yours would, sitting on top, covering the whole area of the table, not just the vault. The only thing I wanted to do that you didn't mention was cut around the vault on the toppers. It's hard to explain but I would cut grooves so the toppers would sit lower in the vault section than the actually sides of the table, this would be how I planned on locking the leaves in place.
@@make_or_die @CaedenV CaedenV, I you mentioned mood lighting etc. and the DM section, when I was watching this video and noticed that make_or_die did use addressable RBG strips, indicated by the chasing pattern, I thought he might want to play around with WLED or look into it at least, if you can find someone or make your own way to incorporate that into a turn based game, you could assign segments to the light strip and maybe the DM has a button to press on the end of a player's turn, and then the segment in front of that player could illuminate a different color. or for different moods/atmosphere WLED has some nice presets for flame effects, pulses etc. both of you had great ideas for the toppers, I've always disliked the designs that have them drop straight into the frame because of possible spills or even dust/crumbs that wouldn't be noticed until the next play session, maybe each piece that goes down could have an interlocking section using some sort of C or J channel, like the LED track, that would act as a channel for potential crumbs or liquids to go to the edge, and/or an edge all the way around where they recess could catch potential liquid. my only question with the current build, instead of brainstorming other ideas. I noticed it looked like you used 2 bolts for each leg, one on each axis, did you find that was stable enough for the legs or do they rack some side-to-side? it didn't look like you quite had enough room for 4 bolts, 2 in each direction, without compromising the strength of the wood, but I did really like the threaded inserts you used, and that gave it a much more 'professional'/'commercially available' feel to the legs, vs using a wood screw or something that I have even seen some commercially available tables use.
@@DonWRII love your comment about illuminating in front of a player when it's their turn. Hopefully soon I'll setup a whole Arduino under the table and program it full of fun animations like that. I was already thinking of one that would start off calm and steady and ramp up over time as the game intensifies. I have also seen other tables use a gasket of sorts between leaves to prevent liquid entering the vault. The two bolts did make me nervous also but your correct. I opted to risk them not being strong enough instead of removing the integrity of the wood. That said, bolted tight, the legs are really pinched in that corner and are quite strong, zero racking.
Nice job mister. Looks great!
Thanks for the great video. Really good editing and funny! The table is gorgeous. I was wondering what type an size of metal you used, what is the thickness. Looking into making a table myself and yours will be a great inspiration!
Well done and informative on how to make all the standard joints. On mine, I use 5mm for "L" joints when making cabinets. The standard joint is close to the "tight" setting on the Domino. It's simple to make them a "loose joint by wiggling the bit a little more to the left and the right side of the cut. The hip thrust position, Aahhhh, TMI.
Lovely piece of work.
