Tip: When plugging a guitar into the scarlett turn the gain knob right down to zero, then press the inst. button located below the gain knob. The scarlett will automatically set the correct gain level so no clipping occurs. If using a DAW you should be aiming for -12db approx. regardless of using a amp sim etc...
I've been looking at different vids confirming this same thing. Jason Sadites explained it very well in a video, using the interface the way you described ensures we feed the same level signal as it would be if it went straight into an amp
Great video! The reason I searched this is because I wanted to record "Waiting on the World" after I learned all the little licks between chords and looped it to play the solo over. At 4:11 I thought my looper pedal was having a mind of its own for a quick second haha. What a coincidence. Great video and song choice!
Drawbacks 1. Directly into audio interface: You have to use VSTs - some are quite expensive (some are free though) and CPU heavy. you need to load IRs (cab sims) for it to sound good) 2. Rec out amp -> Audio Interface: check out specs on your amp or amp you are about to buy - often the signal is mono and/or equipped with rubbish cab sim. Hence, your recordings will be inferior (compared to studio-grade stuff) - in the video he used Katana that has IR to simulate sound on speaker, signal is stereo though (so any ping pong delays etc will be recorded accordingly). 3. Recording cab speaker by mic: It's often loud solution. You pick up your room noise. You need to have mic and its quite problematic.

After trying for years with guitar sounds DI in Logic, Pro Tools and Ableton I must say, if you really want something that sounds authentic, you need to mic up an amp and whack that into your audio interface or mixing desk. There's no way around it for me, yeah if you want a quick riff here and there for funk, hiphop, pop ect then you can get away with vsts and Helix Native for example, but quality stuff is from a good mic and a decent amp. HI, I like the way you have your audio interface up on a wooden box. I find that its a bit of a pain to plug and uplug various instrument cables in and out. I think Í'll make a box myself.
For Linux, setting it up is just like Mac. I had the Solo, think I got it in 2019 (have to check Amazon orders). It worked good, but I was hoping I could use my computer more like an amp however I connected it to a Windows machine & all hell broke loose. After installing the driver every time I would shut the computer down it would freeze & then go in to that stupid Windows repair loop garbage. I plugged it in my Linux box & had no problems of course, however I just used Audacity and didn't know about the entire VST world, so I wasn't happy with my experience so I returned it. Kicking myself as I haven't purchased another interface and keep telling myself I will. Especially since Reaper will work with Linux and I don't have to ruin a perfectly good computer by installing Windows on it. I see those new M-Audio ones out for dirt cheap, so I'll watch a few interviews before I decide to go with it or the Evo 4. What I really want to use it for is transcribing more than anything.

It is super hard for me to differentiate between a Bm & a Bm7, but that could be due to my speakers. My sound system is of the "audiophile" variety so it sound more lively than it does true. I connect my guitar directly to my focusrite solo....I am using reaper daw and bias fx 2 vst....I am trying to create that green day billy joe tone but for some reason my guitar sounds muffled...I want it to sound crunchy bassy yet clean...
When I tried to record distorted guitar through an interface into my MacBook in GarageBand, it sounded horrible, like over-distorted with this unbelievable feedback. Even the clean sound was off. Any idea why I would have this problem? I'm pretty sure all the levels weren't too high. In fact, just as an experiment, I imported an already recorded clean guitar track and tried to add distortion to it and the same problem happened.
What if you're trying to do demo videos? Would an SM57 going thru a mini console and then to a laptop be best for demos that are trying to capture the natural sound of the guitar, amp or pedal you're trying to demo?
I have mic up my amp using scarlett solo, my problem is that I can't play along the track I just recorded because I can't hear it. I have no monitors on the interface - is that the problem? How do you record multiple tracks if you cant hear them?

I only know Reaper, and yes you can. There's a little speaker icon next the arm button, and it lets you pick which audio source you want to listen from - your PC speakers will be one of these options. You'll hear sound right away, just pick all the options until one works. Hope this helps.
A lot of interfaces have a port for headphones that is not XLR but it does require the thicker headphone jack opposed to 3mm that come on say AUX cords.
@@Dsrgreyy I already found it, thanks. The truth is that, although i got to monitor my guitar playing through my pc speakers, studio headphones give much better sound. PC speakers are a solution especially when you want to get rid of headphones after some hours of tiring continuous listening.

I wish it was possible to use AISO with an output, Also if anybody has issues with your interface showing up download AISO4all, then it should appear. With AISO4all you should be able to have an output at the same time.

Make sure you’ve got the hi z (high impedance) button on, guitar is a high impedance instrument and you’ll get a very low level signal without that enabled

how do i hear the audio through my headphones that are plugged into my computer. i dont have a 1/4 inch to headphone jack adapter to plug directly into the scarlett, nor do i have speakers to plug into. so i want to just be able to monitor the guitar output through the computer that my headphones are plugged into.
How can I utilize both inputs of the interface for a single instrument (bass guitar), with the first one connected to a microphone in the amplifier and the second one capturing the line signal? Unfortunately, the line output of my amplifier is balanced XLR.
I'm not really interested in recording, I just want to practice without disturbing everybody in the house. I want to be able to listen to songs on my computer while playing along with them on my guitar and hear both the song and the guitar through my headphones. Would an audio Interface be good for that? If so, would using peddles or a peddle board work well or would that cause problems?
just one question, will the sound level coming from the guitar amplifier as an input to the sound card will be very low and I have to use another gadget to amplify that sound ?
I tried to do this with the same exact interface. After downloading the DAW It was just too fuckin hard to figure out. Recently saw someone's video on the interface he was working with made it sound so simple. It was a Volt 1, and Volt 2. I am thinking about possibly trying again with this Volt. Is that Focusrite still hard? Beginner wise.
Hi I have a question. I have a Mackie Onyx Artist 1-2 which I bought recently to start recording guitar. The strange thing is that it doesn't detect my clean guitar signal, but when using a plugin like Fluff's AMPED Roots for overdriven or distorted tones, it picks up well. Direct in or clean guitar Sims don't work at all, and when I turn my signal input up, it just begins to peak and break up. Was reading somewhere that I will need a D.I box in this case. Could you provide your opinion for this matter?

Try to adjust the gain on interface for guitar.. Aim for -15 to -10 db of dry signal to your amp sim..

Does a mixing software come with the audio interface? If not which mixing softwares are good
Most people get the one with the 2xlr inputs. As a solo artist (solo singer/guitarist, no drums) do you really need the 2 xlr or just the solo one?
No if you only record solo then you don't really need the one with 2 XLR inputs

Have you made sure that the little "inst" button is pressed on? I have usually had the opposite problem and I have to turn the gain all the way down.

I want to be able to listen to songs on my computer while playing along with them on my guitar and hear both the song and the guitar through my headphones. Would an audio Interface be good for that? If so, would using peddles or a peddle board work well or would that cause problems?
just one question, will the sound level coming from the guitar amplifier as an input to the sound card will be very low and I have to use another gadget to amplify that sound ?

Recently saw someone's video on the interface he was working with made it sound so simple. It was a Volt 1, and Volt 2.
I am thinking about possibly trying again with this Volt.
Is that Focusrite still hard?

Hi I have a question. I have a Mackie Onyx Artist 1-2 which I bought recently to start recording guitar. The strange thing is that it doesn't detect my clean guitar signal, but when using a plugin like Fluff's AMPED Roots for overdriven or distorted tones, it picks up well. Direct in or clean guitar Sims don't work at all, and when I turn my signal input up, it just begins to peak and break up. Was reading somewhere that I will need a D.I box in this case. Could you provide your opinion for this matter?
Thanks for the helpful video. I have a question. I have a Scarlett Solo 3rd and my guitar is heard even when the instrument potentiometer is lowered to the end. Is that normal or should an electric guitar not be heard at all?

U can have some dope effects on laptop plugins instead of pedals
have u tried connecting ur interface to your amp?? You should then be able to use your pedals

recently got the scarlett 2i2 to record my electric-acoustic guitar. I cant seem to figure out why i keep hearing white noise in the background of the recording.. any ideas? (using a Fender guitar and cable plugging into macbook pro through scarlett 2i2)
