  • This video covers the full process of setting up and recording electric guitar with audio interface into a computer. Guitar recording on a computer is really flexible and fun and it only takes a little practice to get a hang of it. I'm using the Scarlett 2i2 ( www.zzounds.com/a--3970767/it... ) audio interface to plug my Fender Stratocaster directly into so I can record into the computer.

As some other viewers have already said, your video content provided the needed answers as to how the input and output connection should be sync up through the setting preferences on both the Focusrite audio interface and the DAW software so the output of the sound created from the microphone goes out to the speaker monitor and can also be heard out to the headphone to listen on the sounds while practicing or recording vocal or instrument. I have to install the Focusrite software on both Windows and MacOS. I had a hard time with Windows 11 setup. I don't hear any sound from my speaker monitor but I'm getting signal activity from the Focusrite Control. I hope to fix the issue. MacOS is just a one time Installation process. Thank you very much for your detailed presentation. Matthew - appreciate your dedication.

I have just bought an ssl 2+ audio interface and i´m trying to get the sound out from my guitar into the simple headphones i have (not studio headphones). I connected the guitar directly into the inferface and the headphones to the interface too. I hear no sound...only some scratchy noise when i try to take the plug out. I have installed the ssl 2 driver into my laptop and chosen that to be for both output and input on my laptop. and the usb cables are connected. I can play from youtube and hear the sound on my headphones from the interface. BUT i have not yet activated the music program , because i have not figured out how to sort out the license things they ask for. Is that the problem, that i need to have the music program to work, before i can hear anything directly from the guitar?

Recording software can be funny. I think it is great the people can get Cakewalk now. Never used soundbridge. Thing is once you get a set up the works you probably don't want to change it too much if it is stable. I got Ableton Live to work, easy software to setup, and it is stable, so I don't really want to move to any other software at the moment (other than MPC). What are you upgrading to?

    • @MatthewStratton

The inputs on the MPC One and MPC Live are line level and the bass would sound the best if converted from instrument level to line level. You can use a preamp, or if you have a bass amp with a line level output for recording, that would work.

    1> focusrite
    2> realtek speakers
    3> realtek mixer
i can't get reaper to go through the focusrite output but i can get the computer to go through the speakers (by disconnecting the focusrite)...i suspect the usb ports have a shortcut to the mixer that can't be undone...
but if i load reaper while a video is playing (a how to video to follow along like a recipe), the video crashes and the computer has to be reboot...

That's a good idea for a video. You should be able to play the L&R out of the synth into the input 1 and 2 on your Scarlett and make sure the instrument button isn't pushed in. Then in audio preference make sure input 1/2 is enabled and then select 1/2 as the input on the audio track.
