CONNECTING GUITAR AMP TO AUDIO INTERFACE / RECORDING TEST with various styles of CABLES

- In this video you see how to connect a guitar amp to audio interface and listen a demo with various styles of cables.
the "noise" is grounding noise becase the cables are not balanced, in the Heaphones i put a (*) in mono because you can record stereo if you connect it to a double split cable/adaptor, as you can hear XLR cables transfer the signal better,
my favorite is the LINE OUT 2 XLR/1 XLR because sounds bold and very close to the sound of the amp but if you use stereo pedals you have to choose the last LINE OUT 2 XLR/2 XLR.

Even with no words the editing plus filming was on point enough to not just be easy to understand but also get everything straight to the point and answered I love it Ty
Thanks for this video! It has the exact information I was looking for :)
A video that so many never thought they would ever need. Great job!!
Glad you liked it!
Got this amp exactly what I was looking for thank you so much!
Awesome video man exactly what I was looking for!
Perfect bro. Just what I was looking for.
YESS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR
Thanks for the clear information!
Great tutorial! Thanks!
A HUGE thanxx, simple and clear.
Glad you liked it, Thanks for watching! 🎸🎵✨
Very concise! Nicely done.
Glad it was helpful!
Well done, thanks for this
Great video, Thank you!
Thank you for making this demonstration! I have a gtx50 and I’ve been struggling with getting good tones recording via the USB input. Def gonna invest in the line out cables + audio interface because of this.
Or get a Dream65 pedal
@@DIGITAL7Media hilarious you say this, because 11 months later I am the owner of a dream 65 and use it every day.
Great video. TKS!!!!
Thanks! Excellent video!

hahahah GREAT VIDEO MAN! INTRO IS SUPERB!
Would this be any different if you were using a DAW and studio monitors instead of an amplifier? Surely you would connect the monitors to the "Line Outputs" on the other side of the Focusrite.
But would the same limitations apply for the sound quality? My Focusrite only has 6.3mm instrument jack outputs, it doesn't have XLR outputs - just the one XLR mic input on the front side.
Thanks
Bro I had no idea this was possible I'm going to try this out today
How would you recommend I connect my guitar and bass from my amp if I have a presonus audiobox usb but only one 1/4 inch line out from my westbury amp? I think my Interfaxe only had mic and instrument inputs.
Thank you, but i wonder if it's also works if i plug it in front of amp?
thanks to this video, i discovered that I don't need a new audio interface! i thought my ni komplet audio 2 only had xlr inputs, but it's actually a xlr/6.35mm/6.5mm combo! just like the focusrite in your video! i thought i need to get a new interface just to record guitar lol!
or you could always get an XLR to Instrument cable...
I have a very interesting question. If I use the guitar instead of a mic, it`s possible to make a reamp ( Amp tone + DI) in the DAW?
When you hook up to the "line out" outputs, does it disable the speaker, or does the signal still go thru the speaker too?
excellent
Are there any products where I can use the last method but with 1 electric amp and 1 acoustic amp for my guitar that has magnetic pickups and a piezo?
would the sound only come from the headphones? or how can i record my guitar sound with my interface while it also comes out from my amp speakers
Thank you!
You're welcome! 🎸🎵✨
Im just now looking up how to do this and we have the same amp and same guitar. Crazy coincidence.
Awesome I thought the only way I could was with my headphone jack which makes a lot of buzzing; the effects loop works great
Glad it helped, this is a agreat amp with lot of features
That was brilliant man!
Thanks! 🎸🎶✨
Hi, nice video, in my case i want connect my guitar to a interface to use my pc as a pedalboard an emulate effects but i want use te amp as a speaker, my amp has a "phones" line that is a 6,5 jack the same as the imput, you think its works?
Great video. It kept my interest, even with shiny things moving about. Question for you. I have a xenyx 1202fx mixer & a Scarlett 2i2 interface. (that's not the problem) I have a Blackstar amp that has an Emulated output. (1/4"jack) Would you know of a way or two that I can take advantage of this jack? Thank you much,
G
Hi George, you can connect the Blackstar straight to the Scarlett with a jack cable, if you use the mixer better to use a di box like the Behringer DI-100 and then connecti it to the preamp of the Xenyx
@@StamatisStabos Hey, thank you much!
On the FX Line section of the video, you mentioned you cannot use pedals with this method. Are you able to connect pedals with the other methods? specifically, the line out 2 XLR / 2 XLR method. Thanks, this was a great video.
This video was awesome thanks. We're you listening through you're monitors the whole time or through your amp? And depending on your answer you think you could do this with 20 watt head with no cab, but with XLR /DI outs?
Thanks, yes i listen through monitors and are connected to the audio interface, but also i can turn the volume of the amp, you can connect the watt head normaly like this
Cool...
Doood thank you
Thanks for your good video and I fount an adapter (SAT UB-1) that can connect headphones by connecting to the amplifier speaker terminal on etsy.
Nice! thanks for watching, it's good to improvise 🎶🎸✨
thank you so much for the video. quick question.
my amp doesnt have an out so ill be using the headphone out when my scarlet solo arrives.
i know the quality wont be as good as line out/xlr to xlrz but im hoping good eq-ing, and good mixing in general, can solve this issuewhat are your thoughts in my approach?
the recording source is the more important if you want good audio quality, better use a microphone check the shure sm57 ruclips.net/video/u_iXyhbPojc/видео.html
Hello! What is your suggested solution if i want to record a guitar solo on a backing track? I can play the backing track on the ampli via an aux cable and get the backing track and guitar out of the ampli to record them with a micro into focusrite...then record it as a single trackbin garageband, but in this case i have only one track mixing guitar and backing track... Otherwise i can record the guitar with a micro out of tge ampli into focusrite via a cable as a single track...but how do i listen to the backing track? I would like to avoid earphones to listen the backing track...confused!!
download the backing track in mp3 create two tracks in garageband one for the baking track one for your guitar solo record it the extract it as a full track
Is a double jack to xlr m also possible?
Hi thanks. Does use of the line out(s) mute the amps speaker as with headphone use?
If you are directly recording from the GTX to the interface, you can turn down the GTX's master volume dial and voila, silent recording. Assuming you have monitoring headphones plugged into the interface. This video is the same as what I do, XLR/XLR from the amp to the Scarlett. Works wonderfully when the kids are asleep.
Thanks for video! You connect the guitar with Mustang and Scarlett with Mustang. So how do you output the sound? Through the Mustang or separate monitors?
I want to use Mustang as a speaker for audio interface, but don't know how to connect all the gear...
if you have the same scarlett 4i4 you connect the line outs to the mustang inputs
question since the amp sim has all the effects and sound I want does the amp need to have all the effects turned off and run through just a clean channel playing through a vetta ll line six head
the have a studio preamp its the cleanest thing like flat sound with no effetcts
ty
Can most amp speakers be muted when you are using the line out to record? (Trying to have a quiet band practice and set up in ear monitors but I'm the drummer so I don't know shit). Or will I have to use the headphone out method.
Yes you can turn off the volume on amp and work quiet with the line out
I dont get any sound with the headphone line into the interface
Hey Ive got the vox cambridge which connection would I need? To make it connect
try the usb from back if you can record, or the headphone line
I tried the 2 x xlr male to two xlr female cables, no sound comes out of the right side. Any ideas? I'm using the fender GTX50
Wierd if have two xlr out it would work maybe the preset is mono or you need to search in settings if have mono/stereo option
What about overdrive sound??!!
What if I want to use this amp for a live gig? What can I do with the both xlr outs? How should I set it up?
You can plug the out to a monitor mixer colsole or more cabin speakers for louder sound!
To think I was using only 1 output and you showed me the correct cable to buy lol
If the amp is connected using the last option (2xlrs), will the sound still be heard from the gtx amp or will the sound go to the speaker that is connected to the audio interface?
Asking this as im thinking of using this in an environment that doesn’t like loud amps (church) Thank you!
Hi, sorry for the late response, you can adjust the volume of the amp separately from the audio interface
I have just gotten a interface, and I’m using my interface as an amp simulator to get all the tones I want, can I use my real guitar amp as a speaker? And what should the setting be to get clean sound?
did u try this? i wanna do the same
Hi I have a question. Can you just connect your amp straight to your pc? Via the cable the amp came with
You can but only for software and updates, you cant record through it.
Do you think the 2 XRL female to 1 XRL male option is better than recording with a Shure SM57 in front of the amp?
Yes the signal is more powerful, but with this connection you can't use stereo effects like delay
@@StamatisStabos when I plug the XLR outputs in my interface the amp speaker doesn' t mute. Is there any configuration I have to make in the amp menu?
@@tiagopeggau6256 I remember its working if you turn the volume from the amp down, it's a digital amp, I don't have the amp anymore to search if there some settings
@@StamatisStabos If you turn the amp volume down the sinal in the interface fades away. But I found out a solution. Just plug a head fone in the head fone output. Now the amp is mute and the signal in the interface is the same. Thank you!
Sir , while using the 1st method (headphone out ) there is a humming sound in my amp(the humming is not effected by up/down the volume) , will it bad for the guitar amplifier??
No that's happens because the headphone out it's for lower power like headphones and makes that hum sound, I have write that have noise sound in the video
@@StamatisStabos if i connect the audio interface or direct headphone jack using pc to amp then it is humming
But if i connect interface and headphone jack using smartphone it is working fine
@@pradiptyabanik42 yes because the smartphone have the same out power
@@StamatisStabos sir can I use it with the hum noise? Is it ok??
And sir I am grateful to you , for your support ❤️❤️
help me here. even if it was mono... couldnt you just clone the signal with software and flip left and right together?
if you record in your DAW you can create another track and copy paste the same mono recording take with a little tiny distance and put one track left and one right not to much
Hi, thank you for your video...can i connect my audio interface to my tube amp in the FX Loop to put some effects like Reverb or Delay in a DAW? so my tube amp can have this effects? is it safe to do so?
Yes you can, but you have a little grounding noise sound, its better to connect it to a DI box (Behringer Ultra DI 100) before the audio interface
@@StamatisStabos Thanks!
@@StamatisStabos curiously the guys at Guitar Center told me a DI box wouldn't make much difference (quality-wise) when direct recording that way. I wanted to plug my Orange 35RT amp directly into my Scarlett using the FX loop Out, but was told sound quality would sound awful.
I guess my question is can using the FX loop from an amp work as a sort of direct-line-out like on the Fender GTX? (Which I own and it's so convenient for silent recording!!)
Can this also work with the focusrite scarlett solo?
Probably, all audio interfaces are identical
Solo has only one XLR fifth method is for you
I tried the aux one and it works but very staticky
What is missing here is to switch the input to Line instead of Instrument. If you have a different interface you may have separate Line and Instrument inputs.
Hello my good sir i think ur the one that can help me omg how I’ve search RUclips for an answer, can i use that setup and still only hear trough headphones? I dont wanna annoy the neighbors. I have the same amp. Pls help me
Yes you can use headphones with no sound from the amp, check the video with the Fender Mustang amp ruclips.net/video/0kD53BA3XoM/видео.html
@@StamatisStabos many thanks 🙏🏻
👍
Whats is the best with macbook pro, Usb direct or XLR wiry interface?
usb direct if you have a good vst amp emulation and xlr if you have a good amp with pedals, i use usb audio interface with amplitube 5 its more practical, are you greek? because i know a lot of people with that name
@@StamatisStabos Yes, i´am greek. Thank you
@@StamatisStabos So this set up does work with pedals (through XLR cables). Perfect!
Just bought an Orange 12 amp, can i connect it directly to my macbook or should i use a digital interface?
Yes you can connect it with a mono Jack cable from the amp headphone line to the audio interface input
@@StamatisStabos No not to audio interface but to laptop directly
@@DevNarayann aaa yes with a 3,5 mm mini jack cable with jack adapter for the amp but the sound its will be good only for practice if you want to record with better quality and make some music you need a audio interface you can get a cheap Behringer with 50$
@@StamatisStabos cool this is what i wanted to know, im yet to buy my guitar but picked up this USED Orange amp today so was thinking if i have to buy an interface as well. But seems i need it cos i want to make YT shorts/insta reels eventually. Thanks a ton !
@@DevNarayann yes imagine they the audio interface it's like a cpu or graphic card for audio without that you will have problems in latency sound crash bad signal quality etc the best you can get for begging it's the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2
does it works if I only use 1 xlr cable
Yes works fine, not good if you use stereo effects like stereo delay flanger etc
@@StamatisStabos alrights thanks... I was asking for a live setup, I wanted to plug our guitar and bass amps on a mixer with xlrs but if it works good it okay
Ive got a fender 10G amp, I really like the sound, can i do this with it?
Yes try the headphone line
So which one works best ?
The last with two XLR but if your not using any stereo effects the LINE OUT 2 XLR/1 XLR
Can u explain how to connect an audio interface to a amp I have the same mustang gtx100
Btw I’m using an iPhone and an adapter
This is the video how to connect and setup the audio interface ruclips.net/video/i1KKpl9WGLQ/видео.html to computer, then you connect the amp to audio interface like i show in this video
Could you plug your guitar into an amp and plug your amp into the interface right
Yes
why do you have your interface set to instrument for everysetup? you should be using line considering its a LINE OUT of the amp no? i do appreciate your time and dedication to go through all possible scenarios tho. some overdrive would have been nice. time to make another video!! lol
i test it before making the video and doesn't make any difference because the amp sending out digital signal not analog like microphones or real amps
What does mono mean?
The amp have two outputs for stereo when you use only one of the outs you get mono no stereo, some presets have stereo effect sounds, so with the mono you don't get the stereo sound of the effect
Thanks brother!
how about macbook
I have never understood mono and stereo recording. Can smone explain? Why mono guitar recording is con? u can just simply make it two chanells digitally. You would never make different harmonies with one guitar at the same time so why record stereo same guitar?
The amp offering stereo connection for the stereo effects like delay echo chorus reverb all these need stereo left and right
@@StamatisStabos so clean signal is ok, but if you are using pedals you mentioned you get a different waveforms at the same time?
Not a clean signal though, I could here some interference coming through, sounds like you fridge is interesting with you signal.
hahaa yes that's because Jazzmaster guitars have the biggest single coil pickups with 1meg potentiometers, they are sensitive and absorb everything they have the brighter and cleanest sound of any guitar on the market
@@StamatisStabos listen again just before you strum, and you will hear it.
It's the worst part of home recording.
If the fridge is running you can pick it up on recording but only when the compressor is in operation on your fridge.
@@b00ts4ndc4ts yes I know, most of the noise comes from the computer that's in front of me, it's normal with this type of pickups
@@StamatisStabos if you use Ableton live you can set a count in and you can get into a position where you won't get that. Granted that you were showing others how to set up but that would do my head in.
@@b00ts4ndc4ts i have made another video about this subject and how to reduce noise with a vst plugin ruclips.net/video/xVDtuhkD-xo/видео.htmlsi=HoscgSaiSST1qv1h
why use instrument if it is not directly from instrument , maybe you should try the line input instead of instrument input in audio interface,
I never ever use adapters that is a big NO in my book .I find that they they suck the signal and are unreliable.
fucking blurred out the parts i needed to see
just put a microphone in front of the guitar cab and record it with your interface!
But this method will avoid all the other noise the microphone will pick
@@jcalzada74 guitars are always recorded with a microphone in front of the speaker.. with an interface it sounds like crap
That's obviously the best, but if you live somewhere you can't make noise then something like this is the next best option (with quality headphones). You can record your own practice sessions this way. However I wouldn't record an album this way of course. Also you should make sure your amp is a solid state (not tube) and has a amp cab simulator built in, or you'll need to download one on your PC to make it sound better. Something like this with an Orange Super Crush 100 properly dialed in would be epic. It sounds exactly like a tube amp, but is 100% solid state. Plus it's a rig you could use at home with headphones (+ record with), at band practice, for real recording sessions and mostly importantly for live shows. The options are endless with this kinda rig.
The noise: hell yeah
Pros: great tone
Cons: noise complaints
Your interface inputs should be in LINE mode, not INST.
is this even a serious video??? Why would you even need a stereo in from your amp to the PC DAC? This is a false info. You need to use MONO (1 ch) and then create as many corresponding tracks in your DAW...
Because this digital amp have stereo effects and some analog pedals have stereo connection left and right
You lost me in first minute of junk music.... just get to it!
This video is not helpful.
And a question: as my Fender combo Rumble 15 amp does not have Line outputs, is there anything I can do except for changing for another amp?
Ruble 15 its a nice lsimple amp, you can use the phones out as line output, its not very good but it works fine
@@StamatisStabos Thank you very much!
I'll try!
