Re-watching, re-listening, re-reading are comfort habits. There's no anxiety of 'what's going to happen next?' or 'Am I going to come across a trigger?' Some media doesn't do well on repeat but some do very well.

So very true, I have my set movies and books that I watch or read again, specially the ones that come in book sets, Mom and I would go back to the very beginning of the book series each time a new one came out for the set back then book series took time a new one would come out at least every 18 months, as soon as we spotted the hardcover books on the shelf we would dig out the books for that set because we knew that by the time we got to the last one it would be out in paperback lol. It never fails me re-reading the books even though I know them inside and out, I sometimes get the order mixed up or I read something and it surprise me that I had totally forgotten a section.
For movies your eyes can only register so much of the onscreen information and so when watching you spot something that you missed before, like an plain flying across in the background when the story is set back in the early Romain times 😹😹😹or seeing a medieval soldier wearing a Rolex 😹😹😹 and another who has a pair of ray-bans tucked into the front of his romain soldier uniform 😹😹
I love playing movies when sewing or working on some project because having watched before I can just listen until the really good parts come along and you just have to watch it.

"Every day is a lesson and everyone you believe to be more normal than you, is a teacher" definitely hit home for me. Realized in the last few years that I am, indeed, autistic, and that I have actually been imitating others like crazy my entire life and "normal" people DO NOT NEED to do that... for so long (like basically everyone else autistic) I thought that others just struggled along better than I did. I was just bad at it.

As someone coming from the "former gifted kid diagnosed with ADHD at 30-something" camp, I spent my life trying to be like everyone else and it left me with no real understanding of my own brain or coping strategies to function alongside all those "normal" people. "In my observations of the many parents and children in my life, there is the finest of lines between a “normal” child and one with some sort of diagnosis, such as “anxious” or “on the spectrum”. “If we add accumulative stress to that [quirky child], that quirk becomes problematic and may even become a disorder,”"
And it has made me ponder, what is actually normal?! Oh for a world where our girfts are celebrated and we realise that if we all come out of the same sausage machine then there will be some jobs that never get done!

I really likeed this, you cook like my mom always did. No recipe just winging it. Stuff always turned out well for her, too. Me, I need a recipe. Watching mom make bread was both frustrating and delightful. She always made huge amounts and saved some dough to fry for us kids. We were allowed to choose if we wanted butter of to sprinkle sugar on top.Had you ever thought about catering? Then you only need to interact with the host, then book it!😊

Eggs are sold on the shelf, usually same aisle as the sugar 😊 depending how long you want to keep them is whether or not you put them in the fridge.

In Germany, too, eggs are sold in their "original state" (= not washed with soap or even harsher things), so they keep their natural protection againt all these bad germs and don't have to be kept cool immediately. Though: if you put your eggs in the fridge, you have to keep them there afterwards.

Don't take them out of the oven right away, leave them in with the heat is turned off and the door ajar for about 2 hours or overnight to dry out. My mother used to make them in the evening and after an hour turn off the oven and leave them till morning to dry in the cooling oven! They were always perfectly dry!

I *believe* (could be horribly wrong) that the dessert Pavlova was invented in honour of her going to New Zealand, pretty much the same as the peach Melba was named in honour of a visit from the opera singer Nellie Melba. (Again, could be very wrong)

So many things I've never heard of before - creme pat, langoustines, pluots. But as an Aussie, pavlova has been a part of my life virtually since birth. I'm now 64. Fun video. To cut the sweetness, my family usually serves ours topped with plain whipped cream (ie no sugar or vanilla added), and fresh (unsweetened) fruit like strawberries or kiwi fruit or blueberries (or a mix - you can make some lovely patterns on the top), and sometimes a drizzle of passionfruit pulp.

I’m an aspie and idk if you are, but you are sooooo like me 🤣 I’m also English, so you might be interested to know, there’s a new series of Bake Off currently showing here. Also, my autism compels me to find out alllll the things, so I discovered that pavlova originated in Australia! Who knew? Not me anyway 🤣 I also discovered that the reason I like watching sewing videos while I sew, is because it’s about the level of socialising I can handle - I feel as if I’m doing something with someone, without actually having to have a person in my space 😂 I also wing things all the time, I’ll get a pattern and I don’t think I’ve ever not gone off piste somewhere at least, which makes me really enjoy your way of sewing. My only grumble is that you haven’t made enough sewing videos so I have to rewatch them, so chop chop young lady 😂 I simply adore the way you call it Joanne, and not Joanne’s (not sure of the spelling of that name now I’ve written it down, oh well) because that’s exactly how pedantic I am too 😅 The rewatching/re-listening of things is also an autistic trait btw. I wonder why spellcheck allows me to write rewatching, yet not relistening, how bizarre! I’d like to see you make a circular dress, I believe it can be done, and it seems just your cup of tea, with your penchant for circular items of clothing!

I have been having the interacting with human beings problem as well. We have a neighbor who is a single 65-year-old man, and I mentioned to him that maybe if I cooked extra of something I could bring him over a meal sometimes. Every time that happens, I end up not doing it because I don’t want to see anybody. Luckily, I was very vague in my promise lol.

Oh my goodness, I feel this! Anytime I tell someone that I want to bake more but I don't have anyone to eat the stuff, they're like oh well just go give it to your neighbors or go to an old folk's home or to a fire station and give it away, and I'm like... yeah, but then human interaction and all that, soooooo.... nah. XD

If you get chickens, then you too can store your eggs on the counter. That's what we do. They're good on the counter for about 2 months

  • @user-pq6wf7go4d
    @user-pq6wf7go4d 2 месяца назад +1

We in Belgium and almost everywhere in Europe always use unrefrigerated eggs. I have chickens myself, and I am sometimes tempted to wash the eggs. But if you do that, they have to go into the refrigerator. You can keep unwashed eggs fresh for about 21 days outside the refrigerator or in the refrigerator. You should store washed eggs in the refrigerator because a protective layer is washed off that ensures that an egg remains fresh or not.
I love meringue. In the Netherlands where I grew up, they had hazelnut meringue, which was a really big cake that you could eat with 6 people. There were caramelized bits of hazelnut on the outside, and a coffee/hazelnut creme on the top. Delicious. Unfortunately, it is not available where I live now. But lemon meringue. Yum.

It stalls at 215 degrees bc 212 deg fahrenheit is the boiling point of water. The temp wont rise again until the entire mixture is boiling, all that time is getting enough energy into the food to get everything boiling. The temp is a bit higher bc thanks to colligative properties, the other non-water particles interfere with the state change process, raising the boiling temperature as compared to pure water. And that is from high school chem 2, not being a chemist...thats what i recall. Long story short, the long stall on temp increase is absolutely right and doesnt mean anything is wrong! Thanks for finally giving this particular chem lesson a tasty life application!

The main difference between merangue and pavlova is that pavlova has cornflour (cornstarch for you Americans), vinegar and vanilla.
But I love the idea of a pavlova bar, that'll go on the Christmas day dessert roster! ❤

I sometimes make things and go bring them to my neighbors just so I won’t turn into a total recluse and hermit . Plus I also hope that there’s a fire they’ll bang on my door on the way out.
