    The weight of the skirts is why we don't use elastic waist bands on Victorian petticoats and skirts. Nothing is worse than feeling your skirts slid down your hips. I absolutely adore your skirts as pants.
    Apropos of nothing, I love it when I recognize an outfit you are wearing that I watched you making it.

    • @lynn858
      @lynn858 10 месяцев назад +5

      @@ReinaElizondoIt was a game changer when I realized how to do this! I've been in a second hand shop holding my phone and wallet against "fake pockets" in a blazer, to check there's enough room from opening to hem to fit my stuff.
      Then a squeal of joy, when I find that "yes. Yes it WILL work!"
      The most complex and visible part is the welt, and they've already done that! Hoorah!
      And even if the pocket bag were an appropriate size, they probably wouldn't have secured it into the seams to distribute weight the way I'm going to. Or made it from fabric as durable as I'm choosing....
      It's just making sure I take it home and DO IT.

And if you did it right, the bodice could be a “secret bra”, too! 😂

From my experience of being bagless for several months now, reevaluate the necessity of everything, invest in a good bowl to empty the pockets at night and see where you can leave useful-but-not-everyday items (for me the nail file, comb, scissors...) at work.

    I've had luck with keeping track of what gets attached to what, by using large chalk letters. FL - front Left. Etc. Ensuring the letters are the same way up as the text on the pattern piece/ correct side up on the body. (On the wrong side generally. So if I opt not to wash the garment before wearing, it's hidden.)
    I like chalk, because I'm talking bum-pocket-sized letters.
    And if the right and wrong side of the fabric are at all similar, the large chalk marks on the side you've decided is the "wrong side" save guessing.
    Also: If you're choosing mock up fabric/sheets etc, you may wish to choose a fabric with a print for this reason. I have 3 more yards of violet broadcloth I bought very affordably for mockups. The colour brings me joy. Chalk shows up well on it. I have to be very careful to mark my right and wrong sides - or troubleshooting where I went wrong can be far more complex than necessary.

    Lol yeah, when you said large pockets AND pockets within pockets, I was like you’re going to need something stable and not stretchy to hold that up lol. Crop top is not my style but it looks great on you and I love the pants ❤❤❤

    I want to make something like this now. I probably need to get fabric, though. I technically might have enough if I used this coral stripy fabric or if I pieced a lot of fabric together, but I don't like that fabric. Wait, I do have some nice blue fabric, which might be enough.

    Add a drawstring. The elastic keeps the gathers even etc., but the drawstring will keep the weight from pulling the pant down.

    5:20 So, I love pockets. One of my project lists is to add pockets to every pair of pants. However, I HAVE to put my keys in the same pocket of my purse every time. I only found this out after locking myself out of my truck.... at least twice. Everything else, free for all. Also, I rarely go out to mass human-ing events so I constantly forget about the clear bag policy as well.

      Yeah, same issue, different expression. The car key lives on a carabiner that gets clipped to a belt loop or belt, otherwise Bad Things Happen, we only have the one key right now.

    I have made the same mistake with my pants having too big of a crotch or going the other direction and now having a plumber issue. Glad you got to have a good time. Love the top!

      Heh, at least the plumber issue can be solved by cutting the crotch deeper, I've made that mistake before... or adding a wide waistband...

    Secret pants! The most secretive pants I have ever seen were worn by Joan Bennett in The Woman in the Window from 1944. I have the fabric I want to use, but I haven't found the right pattern yet. I've been wondering if I need to adjust the grainline, or not use a complete circle -- at any rate.
    YAY! SECRET PANTS!! SEWN IN NEW HOUSE!!! YAY!!

    Love the pant/skirt, and the top, too! I am too old (and a bit of my blubber-nuggets would show) for that style. Does not mean I cannot make them for my daughters and granddaughters, right? You are beautiful and wonderful for sharing. Glad that you had a great time. Oh, and I want to hijack your pocket idea.

    So cool! I've been trying to make EXACTLY these pants forever. I'm a total novice and my main problem is figuring out how to hem them (or a full circle skirt for that matter) so it's not uneven and the inseam isn't stupidly long.

    • @gettheetothestitchery
      @gettheetothestitchery  10 месяцев назад +1

      These were way easier to hem with the help of a dress form - I think to get the hem really even you kinda need them on something, so if you don't have a dress form, getting a friend to pin them up while you wear them (or wear them while you pin if they are a similar height) would be super helpful!

    This actually is my first time here but I do my projects similar to you and I love this video!
    I need to watch your other pocket related videos.
    Because I am a pocket lover, too.
    I do them with zippers and with velcro.
    I add them to second hand clothes.
    I make them bigger in existing clothes from my wardrobe.

    My brain has the same problem with not wanting to add deadlines to things. The trick I've found is to make someone else in change of creating your deadline. You'll either have to follow the deadline they choose for you or the annoyance of having someone else telling you what to do will be very motivating to create your own.
