    Please. Please. Please. Put it on the list!!! That dress looks like it would be perfect for mothers that are nursing or pumping. Take it from a mom that had to give up because there’s almost no clothes (that are in the right price range) that would allow the portable breast pumps to fit under. ❤❤❤

      @memadewardrobe Год назад +43

      I hadn't even thought of the nursing access and it's so true! These adjustable clothes ideas are just so perfect for so many stages of life, without alterations! It's like clothing that's intended to be functional and practical 😂 crazy right?

      Man, I hate that you had to give up pumping because of that. Just had my first baby and thankfully I own several button down shirts and dresses already or I'd be panicking. It's so hard to figure out what to wear!!
      How do you see this dress being breastfeeding friendly? I don't see that. I wouldn't want to unwrap the whole front panel just to access the milk zone 😂

    • @Misty_Murphy
      @Misty_Murphy Год назад +10

      @@KHomestead with how the top completely opens, you can put a small tie on the sides under the sashes for when the dress is open so that you can easily feed the baby without being exposed. I’m a mom of three. The first one got breast feed for a month. The second three weeks. The third came 15 years later than the others and by that time there wasn’t clothes that would work for someone who is plus size without being almost completely exposed. I’m so glad that people like Charlie are putting things out that could really help.

    Absolutely 'Yes, please!' for a tutorial. I alternate between wearing modern undergarments and wearing a corset under my dresses a few times a week as the mood strikes, so a highly adjustable dress like this would be perfection!

    That dress is so freaking cute!!! 😍 I love the print and the colourway, and the fact that it's a woven fabric gives it extra polish making it look so professional! I think I prefer it when you just tied it on the back as it shows off that gorgeous front bodice. That said, having the option to tie it either way makes it look like two different dresses.
    Well done Charlie!

  • @Noel.Chmielowiec
    @Noel.Chmielowiec Год назад +124

    Yes for more tutorial-ish video! While I got almost everything, there are still things like how did you determine the length of the sash, did you just wrap yourself with measuring tape or was it happy accident that it's perfect length? And if you could try to make version with sleeves that would be cool, because I don't know where they should start and stop so they would actually look like sleeves.

    • @gettheetothestitchery
      @gettheetothestitchery  Год назад +13

      Yes to the wrapping myself with a measuring tape! Sometimes, I just use whatever amount of fabric I have left (and usually end up making them way too long) but on this one, I held the tape to my side seam, wrapped it around the back and to the front, added a bit for a knot, and then went off that measurement!

    Your comment about love songs, and what might happen to current songs in 50 years ago, reminded me of a comment made by a stand up comedian at a gig we went to see. Basically he was Staithes case that the time is coming when playing wartime songs in care homes isn't going to cut it anymore because the people in the homes weren't alive during the war, which led to him reflecting on what some of the songs might be playing when our generation (those of us born in the 70's), are in care homes. x

    To easily make a very narrow hem on a circle skirt, use double fold bias tape. Sew it on the skirt, right sides together , using the fold as your guide for the seam width. Turn the tape to the inside, press, and then top stitch to catch it. You can also press one of the folds open before beginning to allow you to have wider topstitching.

    24:39 THIS IS THE EXACT REASON I WAS YELLING "YES" WHEN YOU ASKED THAT AT THE BEGINNING. WE HAVE BEEN HERE BEFORE RE: PERFECT BODICES. (Bodiceeees? Bodice... outcomes?? Pff, whatever, let's not pretend I'm any better at learning from my experiences (winging it is never a mistake in our world, right?)).
    Anyway the important part is it turned out SO WELL and it's LOVELY and looks so good on! You nailed this one--and with woven fabric no less. Another level up! Also important: how relatable your delight at ripping the fabric is.

    I love everything about this. The fabric, the print, the style, the construction. It's perfect. I'd enjoy a thorough tutorial. Please add it to the docket.

    I set up the ironing board at the same height as, and right beside my sewing table, so now I can swivel around slightly on my chair and iron seams and folds as I go! Gertie here on RUclips showed me this setup, and I love it! I like not having to get up and also having everything I need right next to me :) Just sharing in case anyone else are bad at ironing when we should lol

      Oo.... okay that is a fabulous idea. If I don't have to get up, there is way more chance of me actually ironing.

    I love the dress! It looks super cute on you! The pattern and the fabric go really well together! I think I'm gonna try to make something similar 👀 A tutorial would be super helpful! Especially on adjusting the arm hole for sleeves or no sleeves
    Btw, thank you for taking the time to add/adjust the subtitles. It's really helpful and also just really funny *mouth farts*

    What a beautiful fabric and a great dress! By the way, if you are curious what modern songs played in a retro style (1950s, 1960s) sound like, I highly recommend Postmodern Jukebox :)

    According to the darts video by TheClosetHistorian, doing gathering like you did is still doing darts! I'm still very confused about the rest of the construction but I'm super happy for you that it worked out. I'm always learning something from your vids!

    This is literately prefect timing. I just bought fabric for a dress. Now, I have the inspiration of how I might want to design it. Your result is absolutely amazing. I looks fabulous.
