  • Happy Canadian Thanksgiving! After thinking about my comments from our last episode on affordable, quality drinks, I thought I would share two Scotches I enjoy. In this show I compare Highland Park 12 and Bowmore 12. Both gently peated Scotches and both an excellent choice if you are starting out with peated Scotch. For more information, check out my blog and please subscribe and share with friends. Enjoy! Blog: whiskyneighbou... #whiskyfabric#whiskytube#whiskyneighbour #whiskyfabric#whiskytube#whiskyneighbour

    Highland Park is my absolute number 1. It’s absolutely beautiful, well rounded, a perfect dram. Not getting anything but joy in my nose and palate. Gets better with every sip.

    I bought The Highland Park and LOVE IT. Best I have tasted. I will try The Bowman.

      This is getting to be an older video! I am glad you liked the HP. It really is a great Scotch. Keep in mind the Bowmore is less sweet, and a little more ashy. I enjoy it too, but different. Cheers🥃

    Bowmore 12 is a very nice fairly priced "every day" dram that doesn't get its due. I think that's because it's an Islay and people expect more smoke. Bowmore nicely balances smoke and sweetness.

      I would agree. This is often affordable and available, and a great way to relax on a Friday night. Thanks for commenting.

    That heather peat and sea spray has a unique smell from being burned probably. I love the smell of burning flowers for some odd reason...very different than leaves.

    • @WhiskyNeighbour
      @WhiskyNeighbour  5 лет назад

      Certainly different from the more ashen note from Islay peat. Do you enjoy HP 12?

      @@WhiskyNeighbour Absolutely. Your latest review indicates you may like it more now. Funny how are tastes shift around. I'm hooked on Laphroaig 10 currently. It makes me think and reflect on life. I pour it for quiet night caps.

      @@danielmcevoy976 wonderful connection with Laphroaig. You are totally right, I enjoy HP significantly more these days. Odd, but fun.

    Bowmore adds caramel coloring. You might have skipped the color comparison. Still like the reviews, keep 'em coming.

      Triplecap yeah. I have recently stopped comparing colour . I still appreciate it, but I do not consider it when comparing or trying to understand the liquid .

      I asked my cousin and his daughters to play something for me, this is what they sent! I love it too, but I'm not sure what the song is.

    Hey Jon. Quick reference, heading out to Totalwine...what is the highest Scotch Whisky have you rated? Also what is your go to Scotch?

      I don't know how I missed this. So sorry. Clearly you are back from the shopping trip. I hope you picked up some excellent bottles! I enjoy peat and smoke a lot. So my favorite Scotch is Lagavulin 12 year anniversary edition. Amazing. If you don't like peat, I also absolutely love any single barrel, cask strength Glendronach you can find. Big, bold, full Sherry!! My go to or "daily" Scotch? Well currently I'm enjoying Deanston Virgin Oak. Very affordable and lots of flavour.

      @@WhiskyNeighbour Thank you Jon. Now, I must try your suggestions and add them on my first to buy list. I had Laphroaig 10yrs Old on our first time Cruise with my wife last weekend. I got the 10 coupons drink pack. The smoke flavor was amazing. Different experience with the smoke. It was clean and lasting. Now, I must try the Lagavulin 12yrs Edition. I saw it at my mom and pop liquor store for $99 bottled in 2012. Saving up for it man! Love your reviews. The way you talk about the history and present the bottle, I always have something to drink in my hand when I'm watching your reviews my brother. It's just relaxing on a long 12hrs overnight work as a Law Enforcement Officer getting the weekend kicked off. Thank you man, I appreciate your feedback a lot. Keep up the great work. It's inspiring.

      @@dennismhac23 Just caught this comment, sorry for missing it. Do you know I have not had a bottle of Laphroaig 10?! I know, it's a crime. I need to get a bottle. Hopefully this fall when I get back into smoky scotch, you make it sound so enticing!! Thank you for the kind words brother, I do this to share in the joy and I hope if anyone watches, its with a dram and a moment to unwind. Cheers!

    HP12 all the way. Got a Bowmore 12 for Christmas and it's unbalanced on the palate, for me anyway. First fruity, then a smoke hit and a weak finish in Bowmore. HP12 behaves better on my palate. Still would take Caol Ila 12 over either, though.

    • @WhiskyNeighbour
      @WhiskyNeighbour  6 лет назад

      ArtMorte I just rediscovered Caol Ila this year and would agree! Thanks for the comment. Cheers!

    Highland Park peat has Heather taste... It's a fruitier lighter peat.

      Gary's Whisky Reviews ok. Are you a bigger peat guy? Something like Ardbeg or Laphroig can really turn up the volume.

      Whisky Neighbour no Jon. I prefer sweet whiskies. I do like ardbeg and port Charlotte and Talisker. I haven't tried many peated whiskies. I'll be reviewing the Talisker and port Charlotte soon.
