@@WhiskyNeighbour No. I only just heard about it when I saw this video yesterday... I will think about it, and then buy some bottles because most of my favorites are long gone.
Great picks Jon! It’s the corry for me over the Uig but I’ve not actually tried your first 3 so they are now firmly on the list, especially the Edradour. cheers!
Superb selection. Just recently cracked a bottle of Ledaig 10 from 2021, first time I've tried it. I can see why it's so popular, it's a very well crafted whisky. One favourite from each region, eh? Well...THAT'S easier said than done! Here goes... Speyside: Same choice as my "only one whisky for the rest of time". Has to be Craighellachie. Whether 13, 17, or 23...I don't care. Any of the above will do nicely. Highland: Knockdhu's anCnoc. The 16 or the Peatheart. Just...yum. Fettercairn 16 runs a close second here. Lowland: Lindores, Casks of Lindores Oloroso. Gorgeous liquid. Had to go to Quebec for it, but hey... Islay: Lagavulin 16 Distillers Edition. My first Scotch love 🤗 Island: Arran, The Bothy. Close second would be the Ledaig 10. Intrigued to hear what you think of the 9 when you get to it. Cambeltown: Definitely the hardest choice, there's so many wonderful offerings. I still have to pick Victoriana, Glen Scotia. If I could get Springbank 12 Cask Strength, it would win hands down. But it's not to be. Why stop there? Bourbon: Wild Turkey 101 Irish: Yellow Spot 12 Canadian: Toss up between Macaloney's 'Cath Nah Aven' batch 5, and Beaver's Dram Sherry Cask from Dunrobin Distillery here in Ontario. Whew! That's a heck of a pile of concentration for a Sunday! Interesting run through. Glad you did this... Cheers Jon!! 🥃🥃 Marian 🇨🇦
Thanks for taking up the challenge. It's hard right?! Love your choices, never had anything from Dunrobin yet. Just opened up my first Macaloney and getting to know it today. Interesting. I think this one is young, but already tasty. Cheers!
@@WhiskyNeighbour Which Macaloney's have you got? I'm hoping to catch a bottle of Sons of Van second Realms of Rye, once they drop the new release. Missed out on the first one.
@@onewomanswhisky It is a single cask, just for Wine & Beyond here. Tough for channels like this, but it suddenly went on sale $25 off, so I had to grab it! I hope you enjoy the Realms, they are a journey and different than typical rye for sure.
@@WhiskyNeighbour I do love my Mortlach😁 Doing good. Going to a whisky festival next weekend, so the whisky hobby is still going, though at a much slower rate.
Hello Jon! These are great selections of Scotch whisky! Here are my picks (based on what I think, is possible to grade find in the Edmonton area) Speyside: Glenallachie 10 Cask Strength Highland: Oban 10 2022 release Lowland: Lochlea cask Strength Island: Ledaig 18 Campbeltown: Longrow Islay: Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength
This was a fun video, Jon. I'm right there with you on the Uigeadail. I also would choose a Springbank for Campbeltown, based off the Campbeltowns I've tried so far, it would be Local Barley. I've had the 15, and Palo Cortado (which was also amazing) but oddly enough, never tried the Springbank 10 yet. As for the rest of the areas, I'd have to try more bottles before I could decide. Your list has definitely given me some ideas on what to try next.
I think you made some excellent choices and made the best of this impossible task! My personal picks would be: Speyside: Glenfiddich 12 (it may not be the enthusiast choice but I have a soft spot for it and it's a mainstay on my shelf). Highland: Ardnamurchan AD Lowland: so it turns out that other than Auchentoshan 12 (which I'm not fond of) I've never had any other Lowland whisky! I'm going to take a liberty here and choose Loch Lomond 14 because while Loch Lomond is officially Highland, geographically speaking they are in the Lowlands. Campbelltown: Kilkerran 12 Island: Ledaig 10 Islay: Laphroaig 10 Sherry Oak I'd suggest taking this challenge a step further including a category for Blended Whisky and Blended Malt Whisky. My personal choices here would be: Blended Whisky: Te Bheag Blended Malt: Compass Box The Peat Monster
Great list! Nothing wrong with Glenfiddich, I have many on my shelf. I wish I could get more Ardnamurchan, but hopefully soon. I agree with the addition of Blended Whisky and Malt. I'll need to think about what my choices might be. Perhaps in a video! Thanks for sharing.
@@WhiskyNeighbour we were fortunate enough to get a shipment of Ardnamurchan AD in at the LCBO earlier this year and I picked it up immediately. It quickly became a favourite of mine, to the point where I'd take it as my only Highland. Hopefully more of it can make its way out west for you!
@@WhiskyNeighbour a core bottle released several years ago. It’s Ex-Bourbon and new oak at 52%. It is young but the price is decent and you can really taste the distillery character
It is too difficult to isolate one from each region. As mood changes so do preferences. Weirdly Covid has made peat taste odd and improved the lighter flavours.
I agree, and while these are favourites, there are so many others that I reach for depending on mood or pairing or company! I did not have a significant palate shift after Covid, but I do find my preference seems to move in about two year cycles!
A friend of mine and I are always experimenting with new scotches, and one thing we usually say to ourselves afterward (jokingly, of course) is, “why do we ever buy anything other than Highland Park?” I agree, their cask strength is solid, but If you haven’t already, see if you can get your hands on the Valknut.
Hi Jon! Great choices! Here are mine: Highlands: Aultmore 12 Speyside: Glenallachie 12 Cambletown: Glen Scotia Victoriana Lowlands: Daftmill 2009 Islay: Port Charlotte 10 Islands: Ledaig 10 Have a great weekend! Brian
@edmorrison699 great question. Elijah Craig Barrel Proof, I have only seen one up here, Bookers, anything during the year, I only get 01. Nearly anything from Barrel. Something from Garison Brothers, and Balcones. What are some of your favorites? Cheers!
@@WhiskyNeighbour my favs are also mostly anything from Barrell, I also only get the first release of Bookers here in New Brunswick. Redwood, Still Austin and anything Irish. Also how can I contact you about sending you a few samples?
If you both like Barrell then I highly recommend Barrell Mizunara Oak Finish and Barrell Seagrass Rye if you can find them. Also BSW has Still Austin Cask Strength Bourbon and Still Austin Rye I recommend both as well and BSW can probably ship to you.
It's difficult to choose just one per region. The first things that come to mind for me though are: Speyside: Benromach 10 Highland: Glendronach 18 Islands: Highland Park Cask Strength Islay: Ardbeg Uigeadail Campbeltown: Kilkerran 16 Lowland: Achentoshan Three Wood Lowland is probably hardest for me because I don't have enough experience with the region. The only Lowland I've had is Glenkinchie 12, which I thought was boring. So if I have to pick one, it's going to be based on recommendations I've heard from others, and people seem to really like Auchentoshan Three Wood. I'll take their recommendations. Islay and Campbeltown are also difficult because there are so many great whiskies in those regions. For Islay I could easily go with either Octomore, Ardbeg Corryvreckan, or even something from Kilchoman, but I don't think I'd know for sure unless I lined them all up next to each other. So I'll go with old reliable here with Uigeadail. For Campbeltown, it's probably between either Kilkerran 16 or Longrow Red for me. Since Longrow Red is a limited release that changes between different red wine aging barrels each year, I opted for Kilkerran 16 for its consistency. I enjoy some Longrow Reds better than others, and I definitely look forward to the when I buy them, but after trying a couple different releases, there are definitely some I would skip. Kilkerran 16 is just an amazing dram that is more predictable.
Great line up. I have not had a bottle of Longrow Red, but I have had samples. Such excellent liquid! I agree with Glenkinchie being a bit boring. Not bad, just not remarkable. I wondered about Benromach. I've sure been enjoying those lately! Thanks for sharing!
