I bought a bottle recently. I did find it to be quite pleasant and not overly peaty, not ashy. I found the palate to have that "oily mouthfeel" I'd heard about but never experienced. Wet hay too. It's definitely a good single malt, it gets slammed for whatever reason.
A decent gateway to peat for the unconverted. Price point is attractive here in Canadia...
Fully Agreed
Great review sir. I might have to try some of this. A lot of youtube/reddit experts seem to trash this but i trust your opinion more!
There are always going to be people that disagree 🤷 I mean I already have a dislike and the video hasn't been out long enough for it NOT to be a subscriber. Thing is, you might not like it, I can only tell you what I like
Enjoyed the review, Vin. It was one of the bridging whisky I had to ease my way into peated stuff. I had a 700ml bottle, and, oddly, as it went down in level, I got an increasingly intense candied violet smell and taste. I smelled the same thing on Douglas Laing's Rock Oyster, and sure enough, there's Bowmore in it. Not many whiskies have a distinguishing feature, but it has become a giveaway for me.
Bowmore definitely has an identifying vibe about it. Seems like some don't like it so much but I love it
@@NoNonsenseWhisky So Vin, I have come to love ❤ Bowmore too, I've only had the small batch @ 40% and Tim on the Single Malt review (and his counterpart whose name escapes me) really enjoyed the dram, and they mentioned it really would B nice at 46, or even Cask strength, cheers and great 👍 channel from ETn 🥃🥂
Great review Vin 👍 this is my favorite easy drinker I always have a bottle on the shelf, normally grab it for around £26 my way, absolute bargin. I love the balance of the flavors, perfect way to end a hard day at work. Nice to hear your thoughts on it, cheers 👍
Exactly that. Easy drinking and affordable. Bliss
Great vid Vin, I'll have to pick up a bottle. One of those I always see just haven't brought yet.
I think that’s the problem, always seeing it. If it was a rarity, it’d be gone every time we see it. Definitely worth a pick up though
My issue with bowmore is that I almost always get the feeling that it could do better than it does. That being said, when I started my journey, the 12 and the legend expression did help to ease my way into Laphroaig, Ardbeg and Lagavulin.
I definitely know what you mean. The saving grace, for me, is the reasonable price.
Laphroaig is a bit OTT if you ask me, loved it in my 20s when I was pretending to be sophisticated :)
Eased your way into the most mass produced normie orientated malts? 😂
@@seasidesixgunsmark9561 like many others, I started my journey by trying stuff I could easily find in supermarkets. So I don't quite understand which point you are trying to make here
Nice whisky, not over the top but remind me of peated stout that I had in Poland with strong burned cables and public toilet aromas but nice taste turned me over and I really enjoyed it. it's the same with this whisky, nice, gentle and user friendly. First step to more peated Islay whiskys. Cheers!
I picked this up on offer from amazon for £25 a few days ago. Definitely peat and fading bonfire on the nose but also lemon zest, sea spray and honey. Similar palate and a decent length of finish. Bargain at £25.
That's a great price!
He brings back the sill-litres. Fantastic
Man, im really struggling to un-write that from my mind 😂
Plesse don't. It is one of those things that is hardly noticeable but when you here it. You cannot un hear it hahaha
Good video Vin 👍🥃. If you can still get it try the bowmore tempest batches (1 to 6 ,its now been discontinued ). Its matured 10 yrs in first fill bourbon casks, cask strength, non chill filtered & I think natural colour. Good whisky from Bomore.
I tried the tempest a while back and liked it I think but it's gone from my memory now. Will have to try to find it
Bought bottle today hope I’ll be happy with it
v accurate review the best value 12 year old imho. just enough complexity to keep you interested. agree amazing nose: near perfect balance of sherry malt peat.
Amongst my friends it seems to be a bit hit or miss but I love it!
Yup. The conclusion is perfect: “not gonna blow anyone’s mind, but easy to drink.”
This is in my collection only because I wanted a bottle from every distillery on Islay. The truth is, I’ll take Lagavulin, Laphroaig or Ardbeg any day over this.
I quite like bowmore but your completely right, I'd always pick one of the others over it
Great vid mate 👌 🥃🥃🥃
Thank you !
Great review as always. When's the Corryvreckan review coming out?
I still have to film it. I need to get it out of the cupboard to remind me to do it soon.
I agree Vin this one ten years ago was very very good , now ? its just ok easy whisky ,but where i live the price is not for what you get...cheers!!!
Price is definitely a major factor on a dram like this. If it went up to say £40 then it absolutely would not be good value
It's not offensive and at the same time it's not awesome, but it's alright as an uncomplicated daily sipper... I prefer the 12 to the No.1
I've had a lot of people say that but I still haven't tried the No1 to say. Seems dumb to have it at the same price as the 12 though
I have de Bowmore nr1 and i like it,but never could compare with the 12y old
I have no idea why they're about the same price here in the UK. Seems like madness to me
I picked a bottle from local Tesco some time ago.. first impression:not bad whisky, until I get to the half bottle in few months.. and nose become kind of wet wood , wet paper, something like wet cardboard.. I won't buy never again...
A shame but it happens sometimes! Bowmore has a bit of a field divider vibe about it
Thirst(y)! Slainthe 🥃
Cheers!
If we are being honest for the price is alright at best, cant compete with anything a class above unlike red breast 12 which can compete with whiskeys way more expensive
Never had this. I am the whisky chaser. I just want to try them all lol. My empty wallet keeps getting in the way at times lol cheers Vin
I hear that! Often I set a budget only to spend that budget and then come across an amazing deal
Bowmore could be better with less added colour and more abv
Without a doubt
Is it outrageous to suggest that this tasted like a peated Glemorangie ?
After all the recent inflation bullshit...this costs 47 euros out in Holland now...got it in sale few days ago for 37 euros!!
37 is pretty good! But yeah the 47 is a bit much. It's getting harder and harder to get age stated scotch for a decent price
@NoNonsenseWhisky yes...the aerstone 10 land and sea casks are going for 28 euros now...last year in the sale you could grab them for 15 euros!! Crazy times...
