    When you first put up the original art from ASM 109, my first thought was about that interview when John Romita said he felt it was his best work on ASM--and then you mentioned the interview. Also, you forgot to mention that FF 3 is not only the first appearance of the FF in costume, but it's also the first time the Human Torch appears with two left hands on the cover. 😉

    • @KarensPages

      Great minds think alike 😉 Thanks for letting me know about the two left hands on the Human Torch. Now I can't stop staring at them! 😂

    One of the things I dislike about Marvel was the 'House style', wanting everyone to imitate Kirby & Ditko. While there's many great pencil/ink collaborations, I prefer artists like Romita Sr., who largely did his own inks. The assembly line method creates a bastardization of styles that often buries the original look & feel of the pencils, while leaving the inker feeling like a hired hand, one who rarely gets the credit they deserve for their artistry.

    • @KarensPages
      @KarensPages  Год назад +5

      Yeah, it was the not so nice part of the business. Unfortunately, the art wasn't appreciated until much later.

    Go for it. The market is a buyers' market. I have surprised myself in auctions, obtaining items I assumed would sell higher because of previous years values. p.s, both you and I have eyeballed the same items. I actually have one or two not on your list and have bids. I will avoid the ones you picked.

    • @KarensPages

    Anything by Evan Cagle, Nicolas Delort, Thomas Ott (who has a few beautiful books publ. by Fantagraphics, all wordless EC-inspired comics on scratchboard), or Scott McKowen (who did the covers for Neil Gaiman's '1602' Marvel series) is worth checking out, if you're a fan of scratchboard. I'm glad 'Buffy' isn't in that Cagle piece; no 'franchise' characters required for great art.
