Not gonna lie, although you don't upload as often compared to others, you are one of my favourite lens reviewer for Leica lenses! Awesome job man!
Based on your video I ordered my Thypoch 28mm 1.4 and it should arrive tomorrow. Excited to use it on my M10, but even more on my M8 😇
Speaking of M10, will you provide us with a video of your M10R decision and why you upgraded? :)
    Keep up your great work!

Really appreciate your comment, thank you! I’m so glad you find the videos helpful. The 28 is definitely going to satisfy. I’ll be making a video on the M10-R shortly. Already have a few comparison shots and clips in the bank. Just have to upload some videos that have deadlines first 😉 you’ll be seeing more content soon 🙏

Great review👍 Just a shame you didn't have the Taylor Hobson 5cm f2 to compare it with. Keep up the good work 🙏

My 60 year old lens is still perfect! I just like using vintage lenses, just my my motorcycles and cars!

I wish you set this up better with how out of shape your cron is, as my in good shape cron (tho missing a chunk of the coating inside the lens from a recent CLA) definitely doesn’t look anything near like that. So maybe a CLA would help yours out also! Because frankly there might be other haze rather than the scratches causing that glow.

My Lens! The Summicron! It is very sharp! Lo-contrast! Mine always has filter and NEVER cleaned! Side note! Ross UK, designed this lens! Using Crown Glass (UK). Summi-Crown! Summicron.. A printer thought it best lens he'd ever printed! The newer lens seems good! I only hesitate about focus accuracy?I get Bagel shapes occassionaly! Bravo!

So how to take care of a 60 year old lens? Chuck it into a bag without firstly fitting a lens cap on it! Guaranteed to introduce more scratches on the lens!

Thanks for watching! Don’t worry, that bag was empty and I take good care of my gear. Those scratches were there long before my ownership.

Is it safe to collapse the Summicron into the body of the M10-R?

    • @GenericPhotographer
      @GenericPhotographer  Месяц назад

Totally safe! Just mount it and remove it uncollapsed for safe measure. But it’s not gonna pose a risk to your camera while it’s on and collapsed.

Are these lenses good to go out of the box or do they need to be adjusted like the TTArtisan?

Interesting video but it need some extra comment to get things straight (this not meant as critic cause your test and comment is solid).
Now you are testing the lenses on a M10-R which is not a perfect choice for testing vintage lenses since it has a 40 MP sensor and therefor more of the flaws of the vintage lens will show which you really don't want to see, for vintages lenses stay at 24 MP or below, (yes below will make you even more happy hehe )
The only things really matter in general on these older F2 lenses in basically F2, F2.8 and maybe F4 (but then when we test close to mint lenses), if that is good often 5.6 and up will be good too (basically when you go higher to get real sharp images you would not use an vintage lens anyway IMO).
Crons are know for their more (beautiful) soft looks so we have to take that in consideration. If you want crisp super sharp, from 1.4 up, Lux is your best friend.
In your case the vintage lens had some rough times so give it a break,
But your F8 test is legit to see what is still capable of that oldie.
What wonders me when people test Nocticlux lenses at F4 or higher, you don't spend $/€ 13K on a 0.95, 1 or 1.25 lens for shooting at F8.
Small comment on Chromatic Aberration, as long as it it Lateral it can be fixed in post (fringing) , but Longitudinal will give you blurry edges and can not be corrected. (maybe with sharpening and/or structure but you don't want to go that way, just call it dreamy)
Good job overall, hope your take my comments as an add on and not as critique, you are doing a great job, glad I subscribed recently due one of your other good vids.
Have a nice weekend and keep up the good work.

Thanks for the comment! Very well said. It’s funny since I only recently got the M10R and have been reviewing all my videos with the M10. Some lenses are performing better on the 40mp sensor while others are not. But it facilitates my findings having that extra detail at my disposal. I’m pretty sure that you mean summilux lenses are know for their soft looks, Summicron lenses are usually more neutral and all about their performance. Which this Summicron was state of the art for at the time. And agreed about using a fast lens stopped down, I echo that with every fast lens I review, no point in carrying that extra weight if you don’t plan on using it wide open mostly.

@@GenericPhotographer My photography shop had a used M10 P Reporter in mint condition for sale 500 shots . I was just to late. Sold in a day for almost new price. Keep the M10 R and wait for the M12 if you want to upgrade. That will be a more simple and more suited for photography build M, at least if it is on par what the future brought us.
IMO video capabilities donot beling to a M , but that is me 🤗
