    How come you don't glue the surface material to the plywood? I notice it moved quite a bit when the decals were applied and also around the openings.

      Delamination is why I float it

    • @DIYTearDropJay
      @DIYTearDropJay  3 года назад

      Filon and plywood expand and contract at different rates. I have found if you glue it, it can delaminate and that is almost impossible to fix so I float it to avoid that in the future. Thanks for watching

      @@DIYTearDropJay I understand the information about different expansion rates, but you say you float it to avoid delamination but ain't that what you have already by not laminating it to begin with? To avoid it in the future, just do it now. lol

      @@DIYTearDropJay It is not the best material to use than imo. But still pretty nice. So in this case the more holes for doors, windows, electrical hookups, water connectors, etc... the better, they are holding points for the filon. And you used that diamond plate all along the bottom for another great holding point. Good work around, nice work.

      @@TheRebelmanone if it's glued and it delaminates and bubbles, it stays that way. By not gluing it, it may get wavy when it expands but it's as smooth as glass when it cools off. That is definitely not the case if you glue it. Thanks for watching. Build on

    • @DIYTearDropJay
      @DIYTearDropJay  2 года назад

      That sounds about right. I prefer to cut down full size RV doors. I find good used ones on marketplace and just cut them down to fit. I have a few videos of that process on my channel as well. Thanks for watching!

      @@kevinswanson3910 you can! I have seen it. The only thing is, it has to be painted. The UV from the sun will destroy it otherwise. Thanks again for watching! Build on!
