Oh, boy watching this makes me get that itch to build again.......... I don't have time for that. :D The most valuable tool I added to my collection, during my build was my pocket hole jig. ~Nathan
Just got a complete pop up camper with title for $100. I’m gettin ready to tear it down and build a teardrop on the frame so I’m definitely going to follow your steps 😊 any recommendations on building it lighter would be awesome cuz I need to keep it around 1200lbs lol
Jay your videos are fantastic. I have learned so much from you. I noticed watching other videos that people treat the plywood surface which rests against the trailer supports with everything from bed liner to filon. Am I correct in assuming since you are using exterior grade plywood no additional treatment/weatherproofing is needed? Thanks again for sharing your extensive experience through your videos and comments.
I just use a good house primer and exterior house paint. Maintain like a house. The camper floor only sees water when traveling in rain. Dont see a need for anything more. Yes, its exterior grade plywood. Thanks for watching!
Hey Jay great video! Two questions - are you coating the bottom of the plywood with anything to waterproof it or just using exterior grade plywood and second, do you happen to have a material list? I'd like to go get all the wood that I need while I can still use the trailer to haul it.
Thanks for watching! I usually use a good exterior primer and a quality exterior house paint. Maintain like you would a painted house. If your building a 4x8 the basic build list I start with is as follows 10- 8ft 2x4's (10 ft if your doing 5 wide) These I use for the floor structure and the rest, I rip down the center and use as roof spars. 2- 1/2" sheets of exterior grade plywood for the floor layers.(5 if 10 ft long) 2- 3/4" sheets of plywood for the walls. (3 if 10 ft long or I order 4x10 plywood) 1 lb box of 2" exterior grade construction screws 1 lb box of 2.5" exterior grade construction screws Box of 2" pan head wood screws Box of 1.25" pocket hole screws Titebond 3 wood glue

Thanks for watching! The pocket hole jig is definitely one of my most used tools.

I know this is an older video but just to confirm… the sides are offset by width of wall, but the front and back are not?
That is correct. I suppose you could offset the front. I wouldn't in the back as I like to build the hatch on top of the floor.
