Our second popup was a 2005 Fleetwood Bayside and we used to go camping with the kids every other month. We had it garage kept for 10 years and it looked like new when we sold it. I literally cried when I saw it driving away. We have such fond memories of that popup!
I had a pop up tent trailer that periodically got mold spots on the tip outs. This is nearly impossible to avoid because you are bound to leave any campsite with some organic material on the canvas. Because your trailer is closed for travel and storage that organic material will begin to breakdown and cause mold. Canvas is very difficult to clean because it can be damaged by almost any cleaner except soap and water. That’s where the hydrogen peroxide comes in. Simply open up your trailer on a warm day or even at the campsite before you set up the beds etc. Mist straight hydrogen peroxide onto the canvas wherever you see dark mold. Don’t rub the canvas because you want to keep that material strong. Let the hydrogen peroxide dry and reapply as necessary until all those little mold spots are gone. This will not damage the fabric and will remove all the mold before you have a really big problem. I did this for over a decade on my tent trailer and never had a hole or weak fabric as a result. Just really white clean canvas. I hope this helps someone. I searched for years to find a safe product that works without damaging that canvas. Great video. Oh. I also use it straight on white baseball hats that get sweat stained. Does a great job.
Yes Thank you! I heard Zep was good for mold so I bought it and used it on my canvas, with no luck it did nothing :( Thanks again I will be trying this.
You can rip out proprietary curtain rod and install any u-shape or cafe rods, allowing simple rod pocket black out and sheer curtain use. Blackstone griddles are awesome.
Pop ups usually retain their value! Never a bad idea to have one especially one that gets sold with renovations. It’s nice that they’re so doable to fix up and repair. They’re also small enough to maintain. In the end, you can get good money for them. I adore pop ups and my husband thinks I’m strange because of it. We will be renovating one that we are buying from my sister and brother in law, this spring! I’m just too excited!
I had the same problem with the curtain hooks. I finally cut the curtains off just below the hooks and sewed new fabric right to the fabric strip I cut with the hooks left on. Worked perfectly.
Cool! We've been looking at getting a pop-up, but we're really wary on getting anything that needs any work, because we've never owned one before and aren't really sure how to do that stuff. I've done a lot of car repairs, so I don't imagine it's all that difficult, but I also don't want to buy someone else's problem.
Hey guys, love the videos! I just watched your 10 tips and tricks for pop up camping and it was great. One more hack I've got for you is to freeze a case of water bottles(with water in, obviously) and now you have ice AND fresh water AND nothing leaks, even in a shitty cooler. I don't do ice ever anymore, just frozen water bottles. You can get a case from Costco for like $15. The added benefit in the end is that you can re use the bottles multiple times. Enjoy camping!!
Wow - you guys really put a lot of work into that and it turned out beautifully! And now you've blessed a young family with it. I know God is blessing you in return!
First thing. I love you two. Second. You did a great job. We have been there. In fact, we are still there. We currently have a 1998 Coleman Santa Fe that we have modified as well. Last weekend we took it to Moab (Utah) and the ABS roof started peeling back on the highway. We tied it down and put a pin in it for repair. We kept going and it was fine. We found a camping spot and I started cranking up the roof but I forgot I had strapped the front down to the frame. I broke the gears in the crank mechanism. We didn't give up. We brought some studs for firewood so we used those to hold up the roof. We pushed up the roof a foot at a time on each corner until it was up. We slept in the SUV. lol I have since repaired the gears and we stripped the ABS off and we are going to Flex Seal the entire roof assembly. That is in the works now. I will post a video. Happy camping!
Great reno! For two people who can’t sew....you did darn good! Love the velcro idea. I’ve seen videos of people changing out curtains in Airstreams and its just as tricky! Great job! Can’t wait to see your travel vids! God bless you both!
Don't store your cushions in that cabinet in the slide out.. they'll fit under the table when you lay it down.. and store the seat cushions next to the stove and sink when its folded over we've had the same pop up ours is a 08 and thats where we were told by the dealership to keep them from getting wet.
So fun! Really want to do this as a project with my kiddos. Could teach them so many valuable skills! You can always just dye the original covers in a darker solid color.
Funny how it is as you get older your idea of camping changes, when our kids were young we did pop-ups and laughed at those who had generators and A/C etc. now they are grown and we just traded our Winnebago for a Cougar 5th wheel, with plenty of bells and whistles! Also we are Floridians.
I used oxiclean and hot water on the water wood mix stain. They seal on the AC is the culprit for water leaks. Seal is no good and you also have to snug down the four bolts on the ac to tighten it down. I bought a 2007 Fleetwood Niagara and I had the same problem. I soaked the curtains for two days and washed them with gian soap and oxiclean on delicate setting and warm water. It cleaned up real good. I also did the same thing on your video for the roof. Now I just need to do the canvas
You guys did an amazing job! I’m really happy for you guys. I plan on doing this exact same thing within the next year and travel the country. Thank you guys for the motivation
You guys are awesome. I bought a Palomino Stampede ...had some significant water damage...have been on and off deterred - mostly intimidated by the project...but watching you both has inspired me...!!
If your using the table as part of the bed, you can increase your travelling storage by laying it upside down, this will give you more storage under it.
You guys literally are going to save me so much money! I just started uploading my journey in renovating a $200 camper. I'm going to use many of your ideas! Did you replace the cushions for your dinette? If so, what did you use? The original in the video looked yellow and then the one that got wrapped with fabric looked white. Thank you both!!!
Great remodeling work, great color selection love the birds, but why oh why would you go camping in summer here in Florida we are campers but never from June 1 through October, too hot and wet,we live in Vero Beach Florida,we made the mistake of going to the keys one July ,we were tent camping and miserable the whole time, you should try long point in Sebastian great camping park we used to go every spring break when all of our friends kids were out of school for one week, you can get sites right on the river
We're trying to get out as much as possible. One thing is for sure, we wont be doing any dry camping during the summer (unless we have a generator). We're definitely going to look at Long point, thanks for the tip
This is the second time I’ve seen the bedroom curtains with a more open top portion attached to the curtains. If I may ask, what is the purpose of that top part? We just bought our trailer & I will be redoing the curtains so I’m gathering as much info as possible. Thanks.
Nice job. I appreciate seeing how other people keep their curtains on! We have a 2008 Fleetwood and the curtains have slowly been popping off the C clips. Eventually we want to replace them all anyway.
Going to pick up our pop up this weekend .... we went a little crazy and splurged on a 2014 rock wood high side.... can’t wait to pick it up!!! We are also in Florida hope we run into you sometime!!!
hey guys, we just bought a Coleman pop up its a 2003! yay it needs a lot of cleaning up especially the canvas due to a roof leak. We need to remove the ceiling and rebuild it, clean the canvas walls from the water stains and crud! So what did you use to clean the canvas? Did you remove the canvas and wash it with a top loading washing machine from a Laundromat? You said you sprayed it? Its looks so good! Like brand new! I want to do that. Please let me know.
you probably dont give a shit but if you guys are bored like me during the covid times you can watch pretty much all the latest movies and series on instaflixxer. I've been watching with my gf these days xD

Great info as always. Love those jazzy colors. So I finally got a nearly brand new popup last week. Yay! Even Dear Wife is excited! So I was wondering if you guys ever miss having your popup, before you went full-blown RV on us. (Aside from the much longer setup and takedown or battening down the hatches during rain storms...) Cheers.
I was given a 97 jayco popup but it will need the roof rebuilt and I can't get the top to go up so I don't know what kind of water damage it has but from what I can see the cabinets look good and I have no idea what shape the canvas is but hopefully I will be able to fix it up. I like the idea of the velcro on the curtains it will be easier to take off to wash and thank you for sharing what you used for mildew remover I might have to use that also, thanks for sharing
Nice job ed on the camper. I was disappointed because I wanted to learn some tricks that would benefit me for when I work on my pop-up. For example, in the opening shots there was ugly stained canvas and moments later, beautiful canvas. Then the floor has a ton of overspray, then woola, new floor. And how did the leaks get fixed. I think your camper looks great in the end and I hope you have many good camping trips in the future.

Great job, I am in the process of doing one now but it’s too cold to paint and it has been raining and nasty. What did y’all use to get the mildew off of the canvas? Thanks
What did you use to get the mildew stains out of the canvas? I have some minor spotting/staining from not airing mine out in time after it was put away slightly wet from rain, so nothing like you were dealing with, but I'd like to clean them up but haven't been sure what to use. Also, I have a pop-up with the same curtain clips, which my kids ripped off goofing around at night on a camping trip when they were little. I just took them down (and stored them for years) because they were just the curtains between the sleeping bunks and the main area. Last summer I came across them, and I found a local dry cleaner that worked with a seamstress that had a sewing machine capable of sewing them back on (apparently it's not a huge deal to sewing thru the plastic if you know what you're doing...which I don't, when it comes to sewing). I had them reattached to nearly two full curtain panels and they charged me $20...well worth it!
We just bought a 2000 model pop up and of course I know part of it is from cold weather but the side windows will not stretch to zip shut. Does anyone have any ideas or is it totally due to cold weather? New to owning a pop up.
It's because of the colder weather. You can try heating it up a little with a blow dryer. Don't use a heat gun because you could melt the plastic if you're not careful
Our second popup was a 2005 Fleetwood Bayside and we used to go camping with the kids every other month. We had it garage kept for 10 years and it looked like new when we sold it. I literally cried when I saw it driving away. We have such fond memories of that popup!

It was a rubber roof paint from Home Depot
How did you paint the trim on the cabinets? And has it held up with time?
Yes, its held up. We painted the trim with a brush
Nice Job! Very cute.
Impressive Job!

@@2KrazyKampers Thanks!
@@2KrazyKampers And that cleaner was safe to use re: the waterproofing of the canvas?
What kind of paint did you use on the outside of the camper?
So I am curious how you cleaned the tarp and got rid of the mildew...

What did you clean canvas with?
mildew cleaner from walmart
We just bought a 2000 model pop up and of course I know part of it is from cold weather but the side windows will not stretch to zip shut. Does anyone have any ideas or is it totally due to cold weather? New to owning a pop up.
It's because of the colder weather. You can try heating it up a little with a blow dryer. Don't use a heat gun because you could melt the plastic if you're not careful
How you clean the canvas?
mildew cleaner from Walmart
What did you use to paint the inside? I have the exact same camper

Use 5200 to seal
